#I thought Trigun was old? Is this a remake?

I've now started Trigun Stampede and I already got a few thoughts (based on first episode).
- The animation is absolutely stunning. However, maybe it's because my brain got used to the 98 animation, sometimes the characters look as though they're moving slower or the mouth movements looks slower than it should be?? I also heard there's CGI in this so my brain gotta readjust to that.
- I'm FREAKING EXCITED ABOUT KNIVES THIS TIME. I didn't really care for him in the original anime (his presence felt too short as an antagonist), but now he looks like a promising character I'm gonna be analyzing from front and back. 😋
- Meryl looks so...TINY. I know she's already a short queen, but she looks significantly more shorter this time.
- JOHNNY YONG BOSCH AS VASH AGAIN HELL YEAH. That's it. That's the comment.
- Also, I really like Vash's design in the remake. It really shows off his youthful personality (even though he's secretly an old man, but you didn't hear that from me).
- I don't have any comments about Roberto yet. Maybe it's because I really miss Milly and her dynamic with Meryl, but hopefully this season warms me up to Roberto.

After watching the final episode I have decided I really enjoy Trigun Stampede!
It was a VERY tough and stressful watching week to week due to the dark subject matter and how (compared to Trigun 98 and TriMax) it powered thought plot points and quieter moments between action sequences (there are only 12 episodes after all) BUT the conclusion was so satisfying! Vash, Wolfwood and Meryl finally come into their own and the payoff is worth it: The season as a whole is intended as a remixed origin story that gets us to the 'start' of the story as we know it rather than just a remake, and seeing those 'Oh! There they are!' moments as each character became more like their previous iteration was really quite fantastic. Like a 'seeing an old friend' kind of feeling (I say, having only watched/read Trigun this year). I also think that kind of feeling makes for a such a thematically appropriate starting point for season 2 since we will likely see Wolfwood come to collect 'Eriks' and the insurance girl dream team return! (Milly confirmed!!!!! Milly Thompson is in Smash Bros! We're getting the band back together!)
Also from an animation standpoint... Amazing. I generally get way too excited about decent 3D animation in tv shows since it's still fairly uncommon and often clunky... but Stampede really utilises the strengths and potential of the medium with those stunning action sequences and sweeping shots. Awesome.
In conclusion: if you were on the fence given the sometimes negative week-to-week episode feedback I strongly suggest giving it a go anyway now that all the episodes are out! Definitely worth it in my opinion.

Minha opinião sobre o remake de Trigun/ My opinion on the Trigun remake
Em português:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I was very happy when Trigun, this old but my favorite anime would receive a remake, but I was a little discouraged with the speed that the story is going, with the change in characters and some personalities.
The new designers and the beginning of the first episode were really good, another change that I liked a lot was Meryl Stryfe's change of profession, who was previously a disaster investigator and now a curious journalist.
One character that could have stayed was Milly Thompson, but she was replaced by a male character called Roberto who is very different and does not symbolize the same as the character,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in my opinion the character was more interesting, for being a very sweet character and gentle but tall and extremely strong, plus it's rare to see this kind of thing in anime, a female power duo in an anime where there are a lot of extremely strong male characters, was something I really liked about the original.
Tumblr media
In my opinion the first episodes of the original were better for describing the characters and creating a relationship between them, in addition to that mystery of how someone who hates blood and all he wants most is peace and love in the world could be such a wanted criminal, it leaves a mystery of everything that happened in his past that is revealed little by little, which happens very quickly in the remake.
The change that I thought was cool but I still prefer the original is how Vash and Wolfwood meet.
Tumblr media
Remembering that this is just my opinion but yes, I recommend the remake but I prefer the old one, but that's up to you.

hello this is from your mutual king cowboy. you have inspired me to watch trigun and i am having so many feelings about this little 1998 space cowboy anime i am in love with it and i want to kiss vash and his pretty little crying face oh my god. oh my god.
aaaaa omg omg omg i KNOW RIGHT?!?! Vash, my beloved, i would also kiss his pretty face. I'm so glad to hear you gave it a shot and are enjoying it!! i love it sm, it's one of my favorite anime by a long shot. the soundtrack, the animation, the story, the characters, oogh. it's so perfect. it's also very borderlands, which is the best. also!!! if you like the soundtrack, it was finally added to spotify in like the past year or so! you can listen to HT in HD, XD
if/when you finish the show, you should 100% check out the manga- if ur cool with a little more grit/gore than the anime- it's SO good and expands on certain story beats from the anime that were a little different, plus it has 2 of my favorite characters that aren't in the anime at all! I also recommend the movie!! it's called Trigun: Badlands Rumble and it's a really cute self-contained story with Lilith's VA as one of the MCs :)
also also i'm so so so hyped for the remake (reboot??? what the heck kinda term-) that's coming out next year, holy shit, so you're watching the original at the absolute perfect time!! if you've seen the trailer, what are ur thoughts? i think it looks fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of cgi anime (i think it looks a bit clunky at the best of times, esp the hair), but I'm 100% willing to give it a shot for more trigun :P and god the character redesigns are wild so far, i can't wait to see what else they have in store for us
if it's not too much trouble, please tell me all of your thoughts while you watch through if you're not done yet!!! i am living right now, i gotta know what you think of the ending!
p.s: here's an old doodle of zane on junpai-7 as a reference to vash dancing his way into a hostage situation (one of my favorite scenes in the show XD)

Hi, so I’ve watched Trigun Stampede recently and I absolutely loved it, and decided to watch and read the other Trigun media too; I went with the 1998 anime first, and I wanted to read Trigun Maximum right away after that, but I’ve heard that the ‘98 anime is a bit different from the original manga. I was wondering if you or anyone else knows if the manga is too different from the ‘98 anime, and whether I should read the original manga or not before moving on to Maximum? Thanks btw
Hi stranger and/or shy friend! I am the wrong person to ask about this, sadly. I'm a newbie to the fandom and I haven't fully read the manga, or seen all the anime bits... but I will do the best I can to share what I know, bc other fans have done this for me in turn.
Re the manga: When the manga first began, it was shounen (aimed at boys), and called Trigun. Then Something Happened (the shounen magazine that it was serialized in went out of business, but I understand there was something else going on... anyone?) and suddenly the manga became seinen, or aimed at young men. The name then changed to Trigun Maximum. Because of this change, the latter is both more violent and more complex in its character relationships -- but you need both in order to get the full story. I've only read Maximum, and I need to do a re-read, but don't have time at present, bc the manga is huuuuuge. If you have time, however, there's a Trigun Book Club that only just started working on the first volume this month, so you can join them. The manga is out of print in English but will soon be re-released by Dark Horse, mostly because of the popularity of Stampede. Until then, you can find fan-translated chapters organized under Trigun Ultimate Overhaul, here.
Re the anime: The 98 anime is a very strange beast. It was put together before the manga ended, so the ending isn't the same, the characters aren't the same, the plot isn't the same. (For example: in the manga we learn in detail why Knives is Like That. In the anime, this gets greatly reduced, and he's mostly just a cackling evil monster for no good reason.) Personally I think of it as fanfic of the manga -- but because anime in the 90s had much greater reach than manga in the English-speaking world, the bulk of English-language old Trigun fans got here via the anime. Also, there was some kind of anime follow-up called Badlands Rumble, which I haven't seen and know nothing about.
Re Trigun Stampede: Stampede draws inspiration from the manga, but it isn't just a remake. The plant lore is almost entirely different; some characters have shown up much earlier in the timeline and others haven't appeared at all; some elements of it are prequelish and others are wholly original -- like the character Roberto. So just keep in mind that Stampede is also fanfic of the manga... but 98 got written by a 15yo who just thought guns were kewl, while Stampede is that same 15yo trying it again as a 40yo who has come out as genderqueer and become a feminist scholar, and who know has exponentially greater writing skill. If that helps.

The 10 Best Christian Anime
Watching a couple of hundred series and hundreds of more episodes, movies, OVAs, and other anime content, I have been able to find several that can be relatable to Christians.
Now, I am not saying these are anime made by Christians, or for Christians, or are they biblical in theme.
There are a couple of those, but I don't recommend them as they are pretty ancient (Superbook, Flying House). Instead, the list below reflects anime that either has lessons that we can apply to our daily walk with God or biblical themes found in the characters or plot.
One way or another, for me, these anime reminded me of who God is or how He wants me to live my life to honor Him. Some you might know, while others might be a surprise. Let me know which ones you think should have been on the list, and which of these you enjoyed or want to watch!
The 10 Best Christian Anime
Trigun
This is an older series, one of my personal favorites that I watched years ago sometime after it was released. I had no idea it would have any Christian themes until analyzing it a long time after viewing it. The series is about a wanted man named Vash the Stampede, who has a mysterious past.
He is very silly, but is extremely skilled with a gun and has an impeccable aim. He is hunted by all sorts of people who want to collect his bounty, but the anime gets much better later on as you discover his history and what truly happened on the planet.
Vash's gentleness and desire to help others is his motto, “love and peace!”. He exemplifies good character, is respectful, but most of all, he understands the weight of his sins and seeks retribution for them. Along for the ride is Wolfwood, a priest with a large machine gun-shaped as a cross.
That doesn't make a lot of sense, but if you watch the anime, you'll see why his character is very impactful. Overall, I recommend this one even though the animation is somewhat dated; you will love this one if you like action, some comedy, and a strong plot.
Clannad
I have not watched this one again for some time, but now (as of this writing) it's on Netflix, I hope to rewatch it. It's a love story about two students who fall in love, friendships, and the hardships of life. What makes Clannad stand out for many fans, myself included, is how deep it hits you.
This show is not afraid to get real with emotions, daily struggles people go through when in a relationship or marriage, and the effects of depression and pain.
It can be a little bleak at times, as the content gets pretty heavy later on in the series. Don't let the beginning fool you, it's lighthearted and seems like a regular slice-of-life or school anime, but it hits your heart later on. I don't want to spoil anything, but let me know what you thought after watching it!
Haibane Renmei
Haibane is an older anime that you might not have heard of. It wasn't very popular, but the story was unique in that it deals with angels. The characters are all angels, dealing with their past in a slice-of-life and drama setting.
It's not a fast-paced, action-packed anime, but it deals with the repercussions of our actions, good or bad. It keeps the mystery of how they arrived where they are, which keeps you entertained. Overall, an excellent anime to watch if you aren't looking for anything heavy.
Violet Evergarden
Wow, this anime (which currently can be watched on Netflix) helped remind me why I love this genre of animation. There's so much bad, dull, or copy-cat animes out there that I was looking for a breath of fresh air, and I found it in Violet Evergarden.
The animation, for me, was excellent, and the story of how Violet becomes an Automemory doll, transcribing letters for clients to express themselves through words. The show delves into the meaning of love, finding peace in pain, and shares the personal stories of various characters in each episode.
It's a spectacular show that I hope you enjoy.
Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World
I have not finished watching this whole series, as I am still going through it. This is a remake of the original, so you can either view the older version or the redone one from 2017. Kino rides a motorcycle (that talks!) through various places and nations, discovering different cultural, political, or other differences in each one.
What makes this anime special is how Kino interacts with the citizens or situations she is put in. It's a very philosophical anime that asks a lot of questions and gives us perspectives that we don't always have an answer for. I think it's good to have questions, and not have all the answers, because it makes us human and knows that we have to rely on God to help us even if we never understand it all.
Rurouni Kenshin
If you have never watched Rurouni Kenshin before, then you will are in for a treat. It's an older anime and looks a little dated, but the story and its main character are the highlights.
Kenshin is a traveling ex-assassin from a war that has ended in old Japan. He decides never to kill again, so he uses his reverse sword (its sharp side isn't used) to stop that causing chaos wherever he goes. His passion and conviction to not kill is an example to die to ourselves when we want to harm others.
It's hard to do, and Kenshin experiences very trying situations that push him to his limits, but you will have to watch the anime to see what happens. I recommend watching the New Kyoto Arc as it skips a lot of filler.
Samurai Champloo
Another older anime but a classic. It also deals with samurai, two of them, who go through various adventures with a young girl who tags along. The music is one of my favorites in a series, the animation is top-notch, as is the action, and it deals with a group of Christians around the end as part of the story.
It is somewhat historical, so you get a taste of what life was like in Japan back in these days, and I highly recommend checking it out.
My Hero Academia
This is a more recent anime that has gained a lot of popularity. It's all about superheroes, which is the perfect time to capitalize on that genre. MHA deals with a young group of students going to school at a hero school called U.A. and goes through their adventures of fighting villains, learning about their powers, and teamwork.
What makes this one stand out for me as a Christian, is its morality and how good overcomes evil. It doesn't make it so black and white every time, so it makes the viewer think if the villain's actions are justified or not.
Overall, it's a fun anime with action, drama, mystery, and quick-moving plots that keep you hooked!
My Last Day
Though it's not an anime series, it's a short video showing the crucifixion of Christ in excellent animation.
I highly recommend it, as it's a powerful display of what it might have looked like to see the Son of God take the cross, be crucified by the Romans, and how He left the grave.
Manga Messiah
Yes, it's a manga, but it's very well done. I am a proponent that if Christians are going to be involved in the creative arts (music, art, writing, etc.), we should do our best.
This series of manga goes from Genesis until I believe revelation, each volume dealing with a different section in the bible. This one deals with the coming of Jesus Christ, His miracles, and preaching the kingdom on Earth, death, and resurrection.
Definitely check it out if you're a manga fan.
