I know job searching is bad all around right now, but it's incredibly discouraging as a writer to have to wade through tons of unpaid positions and AI training stuff before finding any actual job listings.

#I'm going to have my degree next month and I already completed an unpaid internship #I just want a legit job that will pay me and won't violate my ethics #I've gotten 2 offers but one paid garbage and the other had a ton of unpaid labor required before the start of another garbage wage #I'm not looking for a ridiculous amount of money. I just want something at least on par with minimum wage #I've applied for just about everything I've found that I'm qualified for that doesn't make me feel like scum but the options are so limited #to clarify on the scum thing. some of the positions I've applied for are entertainment news things but I refuse to write gossip #there's some sites that stray from gossip but others that's all they are and I don't want to be part of that #I love gossip but not as a profession. speaking from slightly more than a year out of the industry I just have to say that...you know, those people who I was kind of annoyed by when I was doing my ~informational interviews~ and kept going, slightly wild-eyed, "don't go into publishing, no, seriously, don't do it" were really kind of justified. nightmare of a business. many lovely people but oh boy

#RANT in the tags! #anyway becoming a counselor requires 3 months of part time unpaid labor and 6 months of full time unpaid labor to graduate #all within your 3rd and final year of the program while also taking a full time slate of classes #the experience is extremely important and i'm glad it's part of the program but it is ABSURD that this is unpaid #and it's fucking RICH that there is no institutional support for counseling/social work grad students who don't have wealth #or a partner to support them or family to live with #for a field that claims to be fully invested in equity of access it is absurd that the only option is to do this without pay #how many communities of people does this exclude??? how many people will burn out trying to work full time while interning full time and #going to classes full time?? #anyways it's now my life's mission to shame the ACA and NASW to put their literal money where their mouths are #can you imagine what the field of available therapists would look like if these internships came with a stipend from your relevant assoc??
