Budget: FG to spend N837bn on 2,254 roads, bridges
Tumblr media
The Federal Government is planning to rehabilitate and construct 1,925 roads and highways across the country in the 2024 budget proposal, according to findings by us. The government also allocated N548.56b for roads construction in 2024, with the East-West and Benin-Akure roads getting N2bn and N3.75bn respectively. This is however separate from the N288.44bn allocated for the modernisation of 329 roads and bridges in the 2023 supplementary budget. If road projects in the supplementary budget are added to those in the 2024 budget proposal, it means the government is expected to spend N837bn on 2,254 roads and bridges in the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years. The road projects to be executed under the Ministry of Works also indicated the provision of N1.05bn for the removal of overgrown vegetation on some federal roads. An analysis of the 2024 budget christened, “Budget of Renewed Hope”, showed that the ministry allocated N3.19bn for the purchase of 50 motor vehicles. Some of the road projects to be constructed include the rehabilitation of Kabba- Ayere- Isua- Ipele road in Kogi and Ondo states at the cost of N2.14bn, as well as the construction of Ikot Ekpene border Aba-Owerri dual road at the cost of N1bn. Also, the dualisation of Lagos- Otta road will gulp N1bn while N8.2bn was provisioned for the counterpart funding of the Lafia bypass and 9th mile Enugu- Makurdi road. The Kano-Maiduguri Road Section IV, Potiskum-Damaturu Road got an allocation of N2.1bn, while the dualisation of Aba-Ikot Ekpene road in Abia/ Akwa Ibom states was allocated N1.41bn; the construction of Ikot Ekpene border-Aba – Owerri dualisation got the sum of N1.01bn, while the rehabilitation of Odukpani junction -Akpet central section -Ikom-Ogoja road in Cross River State got N1.1bn. The budget also made provisions for the construction of culverts and drainage in flood-prone areas on federal roads in the South-East zone at the cost of N3.03bn; N10.7bn for the counterpart funding for the expansion of the Abuja-Keffi carriageway while the rehabilitation of three sections of the Lokoja-Abuja road got N6bn, dualisation of Suleja-Minna road phase II in Niger State got N500m. A similar provision of N3.031bn was made for culverts and drains at flood-prone areas of the federal road network in the North West zone, while the rehabilitation of Shagamu road in Lagos State will gulp N1.3bn. The rehabilitation of the access road to Apapa/Tin can Island Port/NNPC depot got a budgetary allocation of N143.5m. In the South-South zone, provision was also made for culvert drainage and flood-prone areas on the federal road network in four locations in Rivers State for the sum of N2.6bn, the rehabilitation of Odukpani-Itu-Ikot Ekpene road, section I Odukpani- Itu Bridge head both in Cross River State, received an allocation of N1.5bn. For the dualisation of Ibadan/Ife-Ilesha road in Oyo State, a sum of N2.2bn was allocated, while N104m was set aside for the rehabilitation, construction and expansion of Lagos-Shagamu-Ibadan dual carriageway section I, Lagos State. The ministry also proposed to spend N15bn on emergency contingency funds, N145m for gaming and sports equipment, while local travel and transport was allocated N33 million. In the budget, the Federal Road Maintenance Agency also got N66.702bn for the repair and maintenance of federal roads and bridges in the country while an appropriation of N1bn was given for the construction of the agency’s corporate headquarters. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works has instructed contractors who are being owed to approach the ministry with all relevant documents between December 12 and December 22, 2023. The ministry through a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the minister, Uchenna Orji, on Sunday, said the current administration inherited huge debts arising from unpaid certificates of road projects to the tune of N1.5tn, a reduction of N10tn from the N11.16tn announced by the former Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, while defending the 2023 budget. Umahi revealed that to tackle the debt inherited from the past administration on ongoing road projects nationwide, he had set up six committees to review all debts of unpaid road projects. The minister said that the committees would also review the approved and unapproved variation of prices and all augmentations that were approved or were yet to be approved and make recommendations to the ministry. The statement read in part, “The minister notes the huge debts arising from unpaid certificates inherited from the past administration, which runs up to N1.5tn up till date and the expected contract reviews arising from inflation and has, therefore, set up six committees of one committee per geopolitical zone to review all debts of unpaid certified certificates generated before May 29th, 2023, and from May 29th 2023 to date. “The committees will also review the approved and unapproved variation of prices and all augmentations that were approved or are yet to be approved and make recommendations to the ministry’s management.” Read the full article

[ad_1] There was wild jubilation in Ede, the hometown of Senator Ademola Adeleke, following his emergence as the Osun State governor-elect last weekend. Assistant Editor EMMANUEL BADEJO, who monitored the election in Ede North Local Government Area, recounts his experience The people of Ede expressed their joy last Sunday, following the declaration of Senator Ademola Adeleke, an indigene of the town, as governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The town was temporarily shut down when the Returning Officer, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, made the announcement. Different groups in the town faced different directions to celebrate the victory of one of their illustrious sons. This led to heavy traffic on the major road in the town. Most of the hotels in the ancient town were fully booked, as party stalwarts converged there, for meetings to put finishing touches to their strategies. Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) emerged winner, having scored 403,371 votes. His closest challenger, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 375,207 votes. Apart from Oyetola and Adeleke, other contestants were Oyegoke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, Accord (A), Yusuf Lasun of the Labour Party (LP), Munirudeen Atanda of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Busuyi Ayowole of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) among others. Before the election, many analysts had predicted that Governor Oyetola will win the contest.  But, the result of the election proved them wrong. Like it is generally said, all politics is local. On getting to Ede, this reporter observed that the people were determined to ensure that Adeleke emerged the winner. Ede is a major town in Osun State. It lies along the Osun River at a point on the railroad from Lagos, 180 kilometres (110 miles) southwest, and at the intersection of roads from Oshogbo, Ogbomosho, and Ile-Ife. It has two local government areas: Ede South and Ede North. Voters in Ede North trooped out in large numbers to elect their governor. The voters in many of the polling units were out as early as 6:30a.m, to participate in the governorship election under tight security. Many voters were seen trekking, while some others took motorcycles to their various polling units. In some polling units, officials of INEC and security agents were on the ground as early as 6:30 am. In some other places, voters were seen standing waiting for the arrival of INEC ad hoc officials. Security personnel continued to patrol strategic locations in their vehicles to ensure normalcy, while some were already stationed at their places of assignment. The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were being dropped in their vehicles in some few polling units at about 6:45 a.m. Many of the security men officers were deployed from Kano. At least, three police officers confirmed this to The Nation.  But a good number of them were not having an INEC election tag. This was contrary to the directive of the Nigerian police chief, DIG Johnson Kokumo, who led the security operatives to Osun. Also, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members were sighted in buses conveying them to various polling units and wards across Ede Town. Some places visited by our correspondent include Polling Unit 9, Ward 2, at Abogunde Area, where Adeleke cast his vote. At Polling Unit 9, Ward 2, voters waited together with some security personnel and a few NYSC members were arranging the venue for the election. At Ward 1, Polling Unit 4, in Atapara Area, voters were also seen in their few numbers waiting for INEC officials to include Ojunsun Area Polling Unit 7, Ward 2, where some NYSC members were seen arranging their tables and taking positions. At Agbala Area, Polling Unit 3, Ward 8, some security personnel
were already on the ground including the NSCDC and the Nigerian Police Force, with few voters waiting for the INEC officials. Also, in Polling Unit 10, Ward 2, voters were seen waiting together with the Nigerian Police Force and NSCDC arriving for the election. Similarly, at Ward 002, Isibo-Buari-Isola, a young and well-dressed police officer who said he was drafted from Kano and has been in Osun for the election duty since Wednesday, told The Nation that his team arrived at the polling unit before 7 am. The officer, who said he was enjoying the beauty and splendour of the state, however, complained that the food he had been eating was too peppery. Further reports have that INEC officials arrived exactly at 7: 20 a.m. at Ward 2, unit 9, where Adeleke cast his vote, together with NYSC members and other security personnel for the election. This year’s governorship election in Osun State, according to INEC, took place across 30 local government areas, with 3, 763 polling units and 332 registration areas. Other INEC officials were also seen moving in their Hilux vehicles to some polling units with sensitive materials to be used for the election. Ede North has a total of 71,750 registered voters, with 151 polling units and 11 registration areas. Ede South also has 54, 880 registration voters, with 89 polling units and 10 registration areas. In most of the polling units, the election commenced on schedule and the exercise went on peacefully. But at Ward 2, unit 10, a young man, who disguised as a police official, was sighted by a combined team of uniformed policemen on patrol, was arrested and consequently whisked away. The crowd was huge and the queue was long, yet, the electorates were orderly. Around 8:35 am, Adeleke came in a black SUV car, and drove close to his polling unit. The sight of the car led to spontaneous hailing, ‘imole, imole’ meaning light, as the boys ran towards his car.  Accompanied by his wife, Titilayo and a few other aides, Adeleke, who appeared weak, slowly walked to the electoral officers to exercise his civic duty. Afterwards, he addressed reporters, saying that the exercise free and fair and that he would emerge a winner. Afterwards, some party stalwarts, who kept hailing him, cleared the crowd for him to leave. As made to leave, many youths ran after his vehicle. Then the vehicle stopped and stood by the doorpost urging the boys to avoid any form of violence, saying he would get back to them after the election. The election was peaceful, though both allegations of vote buying were rife. Some political parties perpetrated the illegal act. Miss Abigail Ayoade, who spoke on her way to the polling unit, said she believes the whole process would be the best in the state without any “Inconclusive”, unlike what happened in the 2018 governorship election. Ayoade, therefore, appealed to the electorate not to take laws into their hands, but rather ensure they obeyed all the regulations set aside by the authorities. Another voter, a 70-year-old woman, Rufai Bili Asani, who voted around 8:30 am, expressed delight over the process. She said: “I came out to vote today for my chosen candidate. I can confirm that the process was seamless and didn’t take time at all. As you might notice that I cast my vote without any issue. And we are hopeful and praying that God will give us peace and good governance in Osun.” Pa Abdul-Laziz Osuade, a 100-year-old man and indigene of Ede, Osun State expressed hope for the emergence of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate as the next governor of the state. He spoke to The Nation after casting his vote at Polling Unit 010, Ward 2, Sagba/Abogunde, Ede North Local Government Area. He said Ede was the next to produce the next governor of the state. The elder statesman, who came to the polling unit with a walking stick, hailed the electoral process and the people for conducting themselves peacefully. Asked for his expectation, he said: “At least, this governorship should come to Senator Adeleke, who is our worthy son in Ede.
We want him to win because we know that he will take care of the poor and lift many from squalor and penury.” At Adeleke’s polling unit, violence nearly broke out after the results had been declared as the INEC staff could not upload the result on the server.  For about 25 minutes, the security operatives and the INEC staff were held, hostage.  It took the intervention of the PDP Ede North Chairman, Taiwo Alimi to ease the tension. By 4 pm on Saturday, many people in town were already getting some of the results, which were neither here nor there between the APC and the PDP. But, the mood within Ede was high, following information that had circulated that Adeleke won all the polling units in the town. The governor-elect, it was learnt returned to the situation room in his elder brother’s abode located along Country Home area, Ede where he was getting field reports. A few minutes to 7 am on Sunday, after the INEC’s Returning Officer, Ogundipe, made the announcement of Adeleke’s emergence, residents in the town trooped out to the streets in ecstasy. While David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido and a nephew to the governor-elect, in the company of his fans ran out from his father’s mansion.  His aides stopped any bike in sight and commandeered them to take them to their hotel, Western Sun Hotel, Country Home area, Ede. In a jiffy, the hotel became of a mecca of sorts, as many youths besieged it, felicitating with Davido, who declared free drinking at the hotel’s bar. “Go and take whatever you want at the bar,” one of his aides charged. In other parts of the town, like the palace of Timi of Ede, Oba (Dr.) Munirudeen Lawal, which is strategically located in the heart of the town was filled with people raising different songs and dancing to the beat of the local drummers. The monarch, who came out from his inner room, sat in his foyer, acknowledging cheers from the well-wishers. Speaking with reporters, the monarch, who said the feat was well deserved, congratulated the governor-elect. The first-class monarch called on Senator Adeleke to pay back the people of Osun State who voted massively for him with good governance and dividends of democracy as promised in his election campaign manifestos. The Timi also commended the incumbent for putting up a good fight, having worked round the clock to contribute his quota to the development of the State since 2018 when he assumed office as the Governor of Osun State. The Full History Of Ile-Ogbo Town In Osun State
Tumblr media
Ileogbo is the headquarters of Aiyedire Local Government in Osun State, Nigeria. It is situated midway between Ibadan and Osogbo, the capitals of Oyo and Osun State. Ibadan is about 44 km to the south of Ileogbo while Osogbo is about 42 km to its north, Oyo 40 km to its west, while Gbongan and Ife are located to the east of the town. The name Ileogbo comes from an old Yoruba folk tale that the people in this town had a very long life span. Ileogbo means the land of the old. The settlers in this town used to have a saying "Ile Ogbo mi ni mo de yi" (meaning the place where I will live till I am very old), and the name was later shortened to Ileogbo. Ileogbo is one of the famous Yoruba land with its famous cultural activities and tradition, Ore (ileogbo Ilu ore, omo arepo panda) said to be the protector of ileogbo citizen both home and abroad. Ore festival comes once a year and it attracts people far and wide. Ore tree is as strange as finding a lion in a hole dug in the ground that harbors a rat. When you account for the mother of whom her child's biography is shoddy, its sound unbelievable. But such is the feature of the cradle of a sacred Oore Tree located in Ileogbo. Ileogbo, inarguably is a product of Ore Tree. The tree, because of its peculiarity, is a pointer to the seating of Ileogbo, the headquarters of Ayedire Local Government in Osun State. The tree life span is uncertain as the first settlers are younger than Ore tree. The tree was located circa 1840 subsequent to a spiritual consultation with oracle by Kuseela, the only surviving Prince of the war between Fulani and Ileogbo in 1822. Ileogbo was checkmated by Fulanis in 1822, thus, the former site became desolated. After the clash between the troops of Alaafin and the Fulanis in Osogbo in 1840, tranquility returned to the affected Yoruba towns, Ileogbo inclusive. The development triggered Kuseela, consulted an oracle and was divined that he stops, with his entourage where ever he finds a tree tied with white cloth. It was divined that he, with his people shall organize a prosperous kingdom. Tradition had it that the tree is manned by a male (Baba Abore) and a female (Iya Abore) appointed on the advice of the king. One of the past Iya Abore from Olukoun's compound nicknamed the tree Alhaja Jabaru. This name is not unconnected with the female spirit the tree is said to shelter. Some traditionalists considered Ore as a strong protection against any havoc in Ileogbo. The tree does not shed its leaves under its shade. Eegun festival (masquerade) it is festivity that draws people from other towns and cities to Ileogbo. Igbo festival is a must see tradition where young and old, men and women, boys and girls loyal to Igbo festival will be flogging themselves publicly in the city center. Ileogbo has some private and public secondary schools like Luther King’s college ileogbo, Community High School, Ileogbo, African church grammar school, kuta/ileogbo others are Royal ambassador international college, ileogbo, Omoloye group of schools, ileogbo, Daarul-Hikmah Islamic School, Glorious group of schools, ileogbo and lots more Aiyedire is a Local Government Area, one of the thirty Local Government Areas in Osun State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is located at 1, Col Ogunkanmi Road in the town of Ileogbo at 7°47′00″N 4°12′00″E. Hon. Adeboye Mukaila Oladejo had been its Chairman since 2017. Aiyedire Local Government Area is divided into four districts namely Ile Ogbo, Kuta, Oke Osun (Alabata), and Olupona. For efficient administration purposes, Aiyedire South, a Local Council Development Area (LCDA) was created out of Aiyedire and headed by Hon. Olufemi Idowu. This Local Government Area is located in the western axis of Osun state. It is bounded by Ejigbo, Ola Oluwa, Irewole, Ayedaade and Iwo Local Government Areas. It has an area of 262 km² and a population of 75,846 at the 2006 national census. It features two distinct seasons, the dry and rainy seasons. The average temperature of Aiyedire is put at 28.5° centigrade while the humidity of the area is estimated at 60 percent. Wind speed across Aiyedire is put at 10 km/h. Farming is the predominant economic activity. Cocoa is a major cash crop cultivated in the area solely or in combination with other agricultural crops such as coffee, cassava, palm oil, kola nut, maize, pineapple and yam. Trade is an important feature of the economic lives of the people with markets such as the Alaya main market and the Mosun market providing access for the exchange of a wide range of goods and services. Hunting and crop cultivation are other important economic enterprises engaged by the locals. Sacred Idi-Oore Tree The tree is famed a pointer to the seating of Ileogbo, the headquarters of Ayedire Local Government in Osun State. The tree life span is uncertain as the first settlers are younger than it. The tree was located circa 1840 subsequent to a spiritual consultation with oracle by Prince Kuseela, the only surviving monarch from the war between Fulani and Ileogbo in 1822 where they were defeated. In 1840, as tranquility returned, it triggered Kuseela, to consult an oracle for a new abode as the former settlement was desolate. The oracle divined that he stops, with his entourage where ever he finds a tree tied with white cloth. It was divined that he, with his people shall organize a prosperous kingdom. Prince Kuseela contacted the tree, weeded its surrounding, settled near at Akinmoyero`s compound and invited people from far and near and subsequently multiplied to about eighty two compounds with numerous suburb. Tradition had it that the tree is manned by a male (Baba Abore) and a female (Iya Abore) appointed on the advice of the king. One of the past Iya Abore from Olukoun`s compound nicknamed the tree Alhaja Jabaru. This name is not unconnected with the female spirit the tree is said to shelter. Some traditionalists considered Oore as a strong protection against any havoc in Ileogbo. The tree does not shed its leaves under its shade. Cultural activities Anlugbua is celebrated annually. Anlugbua Akindele, a famous hunter and warrior was a progenitor that led his people from Orile-Owu to Owu-Kuta, where they are presently settled. He left Orile-Owu because he was not given the chance to reign after his father’s passage. His younger brother was made to ascend the throne, which angered him. So, he left and later settled in a place called Ikutamiti (I evaded death). It is Ikutamiti that was shortened to Kuta. After a reign of 300 years, he decided to sink to the ground, instead of dying physically. The spot where he entered into the ground is where is annually converged to celebrate. The place is now a local historical site. The shrine is a sacred groove about three kilometres away from the town and inaccessible by vehicle and tucked inside the Anlugbua forest. Some of the rites are the sacrifices of live ram and dog in addition to pounded yam and okro/ogbono soup at the shrine. Persons who wear certain tribal marks called keke are forbidden from entering Anlugbua’s. Read the full article

During that time, Ice cream was not in demand to the public, so he decided to add new dishes to serve the public and these became so popular that by 1978, he ended his franchise and converted his restaurants to the first iteration of Jollibee.

Threat of New Entrants:
           The profitability is high, having plans to open 450 stores all over the world this year despite last year’s set back. This is because of how strong their brand loyalty and identification are. Although a rising star in their field would be the Yum! Brands RSC. Having heavy hitters such as KFC and Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell.
Threats of Substitute Products:
           Having been in lockdown for quite some time there are a lot of fast-food chains trying to dethrone Jollibee. Jollibee may be the largest fast-food chain in the Philippines, but that does not mean other competitors cannot catch up. There are plenty of other fast-food chains that can serve the same type of food and service.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers:
There are plenty of suppliers in the market ready to give out their products for huge restaurants like Jollibee. This is because Jollibee purchases huge quantities of stock for all their franchises. It is a well-known brand that could possibly attract more consumers to them as well.
Bargaining Power of Buyers:
           The ongoing lockdown in the country has pushed more people into ordering food online or takeout for food. Consumers are now encouraged to stay home to keep safe and to only go out when needed. So, this enables fast-food chains to optimize their delivery services and they can provide better service since the consumer is one of the biggest sources of profit. Customers are also able to give feedback in case of faulty service or what not.
  Rivalry Among Consisting Competitors:
           The competition on who survives during this pandemic is alive and it is stiff. The number of businesses trying to just make it out are too many to count. However, Jollibee has managed to survive and gain what it lost during the year 2020. They differentiate themselves with their brand loyalty.
External Factor Evaluation Matrix
The objective of the External Factor Evaluation matrix analysis is to evaluate the company’s existing strategies. According to Haseeb (2015), this tool can assess the external environment of a company to determine its technology, government, legal, political, socioeconomic, and many more. EFE and IFE has different objectives, EFE main purpose is to assess the external environment that can possibly affect the business. While IFE’s main purpose is to assess the internal environment that can influence the business. Analyzing Jollibee Food Corporation will need the EFE matrix analysis to determine its opportunities and threats. Jollibee’s biggest threat may be the Covid-19 New security procedures. Another threat can be a competition in the fast-food industry is ever increasing.

Cash Cows:
These are products that have high market share in the market that has low growth. For Jollibee Foods Corporation, undoubtedly Yum Burger and Jolli Spaghetti are the Cash Cow for the company.
           The product requires very less investment to maintain its market share and fight off any competitions.
Stars:
           The products that have high market share in high growth industry are the stars of the company. In the case of Jollibee, Chickenjoy falls in the star quadrant.
Question Marks:
           Products of which the future is not entirely certain. The market growth is high, but the market share is low. In this case, Jollibee’s Peach Mango Pie and Soda Floats are in this quadrant.
Dogs:
           These are the products at the end of their life cycle, ot products that had to compete against competitors.

As seen on the data, the market penetration is higher than the service development in terms of the quantitative strategic matrix. The market penetration is much more attainable rather than the service development for the company.
 I.              Strategy Recommendation
The solutions are more categorized by targeting audiences in residential, institutional, commercial, and industrial areas. Twenty potential solutions were identified and collectively agreed upon. Each solution was assessed for clarity about the opportunity, purpose, and measurement. Time and resources for implementing were also evaluated. As far as implementation goes, some solutions can be accomplished in the near-term, while others are more long-term endeavors that may require the successful implementation of short-term solutions. Many of the solution areas identified are currently underway at some capacity.
II.            Action Plan
Result Area:
The COVID-19 pandemic is altering the market dynamic. Small businesses, restaurants, and even fast-food stores are unable to cope with the severity of the pandemic last year and continues to persist this year. As a result, Jollibee is looking for students who want to work part-time and have no experience. They simply have to submit their portfolios and medical history to learn more about their health status. People who have been out of work for a long time due to the pandemic can also apply. This extends to people aged 18 to 40 with no case of coronavirus infection.
Indicator: Students and people who lost their jobs.
Means of verification: survey and posting through social media.
Tumblr media
Objectives:
This action plan of Jollibee wants to improve their food services by conducting a card such as a Jollibee card, this card contains the points they've not used. Converting their peso to a point. This action may lessen the work of the crew plus avoiding the spread of coronavirus disease. Having Job Opportunities posted on social media may help the food services to spread the information given on the post. Many people will apply such as students and people who lost their jobs because of the pandemic. The technological environment may help the whole Jollibee team to work well and fast because of the new instruments or devices given to them. Thinking about how they can compete with the competitors to increase their sales even after a pandemic. Conveying a survey may help the Jollibee team to increase their sales and to know their weakness upon may change it.
I.              Conclusion
Jollibee is a successful fast-food brand; they were able to dominate the market despite having heavy-hitting competition. They have survived because of the loyalty of their customers who consider them a staple brand. Even during a pandemic, they have adapted, as they always have, to continue serving their patrons the same quality of service that they have been providing.
II.            Financial Projection

Ilupeju Ekiti, from the top of Oke Asegun.
‘Ilupeju Ekiti is the only Yoruba town where two communities decided on an amalgamation without tribal strife or animosities” according to HRM OBA Emmanuel Olaleye Oniyelu, the Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti who exclusively revealed that a ballot was conducted between the two princes of Eseta and Egosi Ekiti respectively for the positions of Apeju (the Oba) and Obanla (the deputy and heir apparent to the throne). On 3rd June 1974, the Ondo state government Gazette announced Prince Olaleye as the Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, leading to his official  enthronement in February 1980. Today the current Apeju is from the Eseta family while the Obanla is from the Egosi family.

Ilupeju Ekiti (373.9 km) to Abuja via Abuja-Lokoja Road/A2  and 337 km from Lagos via Ife Ibadan Express way is a town in Oye local government area of Ekiti State. It falls within the Ekiti speaking area of Yoruba land, and is bounded in the east by Itapa Ekiti, in the west by Oye Ekiti, in the South by Ire Ekiti, and in the North by Ijomo Ekiti.
Ekiti State is in Southwest region of Nigeria, declared a state on 1 October 1996 alongside five other states in the country by the then military government under head of state, General Sani Abacha. As one of the newest states of the Nigerian federation, it was carved out of the territory of old Ondo State, and covers the former 12 local government areas that made up the Ekiti Zone of old Ondo State. On creation, it had 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs), having had an additional four carved out of the old ones. Ekiti State is one of the 36 states (inc. Federal Capital Territory (Nigeria)) that constitute Nigeria.
The State is mainly an upland zone, rising over 250 meters above sea level. It lies on an area underlain by metamorphic rock. It is generally an undulating part of the country with a characteristic landscape that consists of old plains broken by step-sided out-crops that may occur singularly or in groups or ridges. Such rocks out-crops exist mainly at Aramoko, Efon-Alaiye, Ikere-Ekiti, Igbara-odo- ekiti and Okemesi-Ekiti. The State is dotted with rugged hills, notable ones being Ikere-Ekiti Hills in the south, Efon-Alaiye Hills on the western boundary and Ado-Ekiti Hills in the centre.
Ilupeju Ekiti is a part of our family history since my late father grew up between Ile Ife and Ilupeju Ekiti, before settling in Lagos. My other siblings and myself, all born in Lagos, have always been curious to visit that legendary place that he mentioned when we were children, but never visited together.
Today Ilupeju Ekiti is a provincial town that has escaped from the fate of many other sleepy villages, thanks to the nearby Federal University of Oye Ekiti. On Wednesday morning a lively market offers local and regional produce, attracting traders and customers from wide and far. It gave us a chance to greet some of the inhabitants who remembered our father.
The trip was a wonderful opportunity to travel along meandering roads, across Ekiti-land, leading us to some lovely sights and hilltop views, and meeting old and new friends.  More explorations will surely follow!
    Bolaji Alonge is an artist, international photographer, actor and journalist from Lagos, Nigeria. His visual language speaks of the wonders of nature and human exchange, urban culture and searches for historical continuity in a world that is sometimes heavily fractured. He is also a globetrotter who has travelled around the world during the last decade documenting exotic culture and history. In May 2017, Bolaji organized his “Eyes of a Lagos Boy” photo exhibition at the prestigious Freedom Park in Lagos.
His second solo exhibition “Urban Culture – Historical Continuity” was held at One Draw Gallery, Ikoyi, Lagos in November 2018, establishing Bolaji’s brand of photography to a new audience, receiving great reviews from artists and art lovers worldwide
In February 2019, Bolaji showcased his work at Baza Studio in New York, The event was attended by the Nigerian Consul in New York, UN officials, art curators, musicians, artists, press and art aficionados. More projects in New York are planned for 2019.

One of the past Iya Abore from Olukoun's compound nicknamed the tree Alhaja Jabaru. This name is not unconnected with the female spirit the tree is said to shelter. BREAKING:"Leave Fulani Alone, Stop Endangering Lives Of Yorubas" - MURIC Warns Amotekun
Tumblr media
Leave Fulani An Islamic human rights association, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has unequivocally cautioned the South West security outfit, Amotekun, to disregard the Fulani and quit imperiling the lives of Yoruba individuals living in the North and different areas of the nation.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
MURIC said that Amotekun must concentrate on assaults on the individuals of Ile-Ife by hooligans supported by unlawful diggers and not on Fulani herdsmen.MURIC, notwithstanding, praised Amotekun for its readiness, yet entrusted it on polished methodology and detribalized security cognizance.
The association likewise advised Amotekun against melodrama in an announcement marked by it Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, and made accessible to DAILY POST on Friday morning.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
The Islamic human rights bunch was responding to the announced capture of ‘outlaws’ who attempted to enter Osun State by the Amotekun corps.
As per MURIC, “We compliment Amotekun agents for being alert. In any case, they should consistently utilize the correct depiction for those caught. Those suspects ought not have been depicted as ‘criminals’. They didn’t need to be connected with the banditry going on in the North. Amotekun must be proficient and completely detribalized in the event that it needs to accomplish the ideal outcomes.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“A great deal of gaps can be picked from the narrative of the supposed ‘outlaws’ captured by Amotekun. Those suspects were presumably hooligans imported from Lagos, not ‘criminals’ as detailed. The media cited the commandant of Amotekun himself saying that they were ‘from Lagos State going to Itagunmodi mining site in Atakumosa West Local Government Area of Osun State’.
“We as a whole comprehend what has been going on in the unlawful mining destinations in the State of Osun. Thuggery and hooliganism rules as blameless occupants are bothered while their homes are barraged by flying rockets because of blasts at the mines. This is the circumstance in Ile-Ife at this very moment.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“The populace is anxious and the security circumstance has been aggravated by the way that influential individuals in the town are behind the illicit mining and the oppression of the Ife individuals.
“Truth be told, a video cut possessing MURIC shows the close destruction of one Mr. Segun Awofolarin’s home at Asarinlegan, Ile-Ife, brought about by overwhelming stones which arrived on the rooftop and entered the rooms.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“A few other overwhelming stones landed like scud rockets on the child’s bed, the restroom and the whole compound. This occurrence happened on Tuesday, second June, 2020. The family was fortunate to get away from safe since they didn’t rest at home on that day.
“A few petitions have been sent by the individuals of Ile-Ife to the state government. Denouncing fingers have been pointed at imported hooligans being utilized by influential individuals supporting the diggers to threaten the occupants.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“It was a portion of these hooligans who were being moved to the mining locales to bug the individuals of Ile-Ife that the Amotekun men captured, not ‘scoundrels’. The emergency goes back to a few years.
“MURIC advances to the state government to utilize Amotekun young men in safeguarding the Ife individuals from the hands of merciless businesspeople who are keen on making life hopeless for the helpless masses in Ile-Ife. This ought to be the focal point of Amotekun, not fanciful crooks and herders. Ile-Ife is the support of Yorubaland. The town is in this way fundamental to the achievement or disappointment ascribed to Amotekun.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“We need Amotekun to battle inside security challenges and the circumstance in Ile-Ife is turning crazy. Noble cause starts at home. Ife individuals are being driven out of their homes a similar way crooks are driving guiltless individuals out of their homes in Katsina, Niger and some other Northern states. The police is purportedly impeded. This test must go to Amotekun since the last was built up to supplement police tasks.
“It is anyway upsetting that the principal report of captures didn’t make reference to any weapons. It just said ‘arranged kinds of charms were recouped from two of the speculated outlaws’. Something isn’t right if every one of the eighteen individuals in a transport are marked scoundrels when conventional charms were found on just two of them. It was the second report which came 24 hours after the fact that made reference to ‘diverse matchets, cutlasses, scoops and arranged charms’.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“Indeed, even a five-year-old kid realizes that ‘matchets and cutlasses’ are very much the same thing. So why copy it? This is an activity in overstatement. Are scoops additionally weapons? It is notable that workers move around with the devices of their work and the incompetent work from the North hauling their devices around is a typical sight in the South. Must we mislead helpless workers? When did we quit being our siblings’ guardians? Amotekun is showing desperate desertification of polished skill in addition to a pitiable enthusiasm for slander.
“In opposition to the enthusiastic feature which expressed that the ‘desperados’ were captured, it could be assembled from the story that Amotekun simply ‘sent them back to where they originated from’.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
This is sheer melodrama determined to warm up the country. It is completely pointless except if a few people are moving in the direction of the annihilation of this nation. A security unit made to keep up harmony and security must not work experiencing some miscommunication with other law requirement organizations. Neither should it make pointless dread.
“Those suspects ought not have been permitted to go without any penalty. It uncovered Amotekun’s absence of experience. The suspects have abused the general restriction on interstate development. They ought to have been captured and arraigned regardless of whether it is for that offense alone.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“MURIC underpins the progression taken by Yoruba governors to battle weakness. Nothing isn’t right with trying to ensure one’s state yet accentuation must not be on a specific clan as targets, suspects or guilty parties. We should de-underscore north-south polarity as we continued looking for answers for our security challenges. Crooks must be captured without generalizing any clan or area.
“We instruct pioneers with respect to all clans to alert corrupt components among their kin against going to different states to take part in crimes. Such activities have the ability to mark the picture of their clans.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“In the event that you are a hoodlum and you can’t quit taking, take in your state. Try not to go to different states to discolor the picture of your clan. This guidance goes to all ethnicities: Igbo, Ijaw, Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, and so forth since all clans have their own hoodlums similarly as they all have their average and persevering residents.
“Let us, in this way, address culpability and quit connecting hoodlums with their clans. Let us rebuff lawbreakers, not other guiltless individuals who happen to originate from the criminal’s town or town. It’s anything but a wrongdoing to be a Yoruba, an Igbo or Fulani. Any of us could have been conceived anyplace.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“MURIC sees the current issue of uncertainty confronting Nigeria as an emergency of qualities and the best approach to illuminate it is for us all to reconsider our standards with a view to re-designing cultural qualities. Our objective ought to be to develop a superior society, not to condemn any ethnicity.
For example, the ongoing ascent in assault cases is a test for Amotekun. By what method can four instances of assault and killing happen in Akinyele Local Government of Ibadan alone inside one month and Amotekun can’t fish out the guilty parties in its own lawn? Is it herders and Fulanis alone they are appointed to secure?
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“The risk in the belittling of any clan by Amotekun lies in the introduction of Yoruba individuals living in different locales to peril. Are Amotekun specialists ready to forfeit Yoruba individuals living outside the district?
The individuals who neglect to give equity and fairplay will load unfairness on their friends and relatives in different spots. Amotekun must be broadminded.Its activity must not be limited to searching for lawbreakers from a specific clan else it will miss many hoodlums from different clans.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“We remind Nigerians that Amotekun is still in its early stages and any developing newborn child must have early stage troubles. We along these lines approach all Nigerians, especially non-oversee mental associations (NGOs) to screen its exercises so as to guarantee straightforwardness, responsibility, equity and fairplay.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“This rebuke ought not astonish anybody since it is in the character of NGOs to screen the exercises of government offices, including the police. In this way, Amotekun can’t be a special case. This security outfit must not be permitted to develop into an inborn or strict Gestapo.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“On a last note, we compliment Amotekun for its readiness, yet we prompt the security outfit to concentrate on assaults on the individuals of Ile-Ife by hooligans supported by illicit diggers and sequential attackers who are polluting Yoruba ladies. We task Amotekun on demonstrable skill. We call for detribalized security cognizance and alert against drama.”
