LORD, MASTER, RULER OF PLANET APOKOLIPS -- ORION, "THE DOG OF WAR."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on Orion, who has taken over from his father as ruler of Apokolips. Orion uses Metron's Mobius chair as his broken throne, and has given up using his Mother Box to alter his facial features. In this series, Ross draws Orion with hints of Darkseid's features.
Pages from "Kingdom Come" Vol. 1 #2. June, 1996. DC Comics. Artwork by Alex Ross. Story/script by Mark Waid & Alex Ross. Letters by Todd Klein.

"WAR. AN ART THAT, WITH ONE FINISHING STROKE. I FINALLY MASTERED."
PIC(S) INFO: Part 1 of 2 -- Spotlight on the introduction to planet Apokolips and the heavy reveal that Orion, former champion of New Genesis and Darkseid's son, has become the new ruler of the hellish world (now also eerily resembling his late father), from "Kingdom Come" Vol. 1 #2. June, 1996. DC Comics. Artwork by Alex Ross.
"War. An art that, with one finishing stroke. I finally mastered... but to what ultimate triumph? Apokolips is still helpless with those who cannot... will not... help themselves. Often have I considered uprooting the more aberrant lowelies... exiling them to some distant orb... but it seems unconscionable to inflict such grievous wounds on another planet. I'm sure you agree."
-- ORION, new ruler of planet Apokolips, to Superman (Earth-22)

"IN THE NEAR-FUTURE WORLD OF "KINGDOM COME," SUPERHEROES ARE UBIQUITOUS, BUT HEROISM IS RARE."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on textless and published wraparound cover art to the critically-acclaimed, Eisner Award-winning limited comic book series "Kingdom Come" (May-August, 1996). Written by Mark Waid & illustrated/painted by Alex Ross. DC Comics.
"In the near-future world of "Kingdom Come," superheroes are ubiquitous, but heroism is rare. After decades as Earth's champions, the members of the Justice League have all retreated out of the public eye, replaced by a new generation of crime-fighters whose brand of justice leaves humanity terrified rather than inspired. But with the planet's future in jeaopardy, Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman must come out of retirement to make one last stand for truth and justice."
