US Open Tennis
Anyone who visited us in NY would not be surprised that we b-lined to Brooklyn Bagels on 8th Ave for breakfast. It was as wonderful as ever! (Sorry for food pictures, but I intend to remember this forever!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we started planning this trip in June, I asked friends if they might be in NYC around the time of our visit. The response was a picture of their US Open tickets for THE day we were thinking of being in the city. I had wanted to go to the US Open when we lived there but hadn’t. (Rob had been with work.) We were both keen to go. So no kidding, I was able to get 2 tickets in the row behind Ro, Kiran, and Harj!
Tumblr media
You can buy tickets for a seat in the Arthur Ashe Stadium for either the noon-5:00 or 6:00 evening blocks. You can also wander around to the other courts to see other matches. Our tickets were for daytime session on Wednesday which was the second round of the US Open. We found out the night before that we would see Coco Guaff (6th seed) versus Mirra Andreeva and Novak Djokovic (2nd seed) vs Bernadette Zapatista Miralles. I haven’t really kept up with tennis, so to know of the players we would see was exciting! Both top seeds won their matches in straight sets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After those matches, we went over to the Louis Armstrong Stadium to see the end of the Ben Shelton vs Dominic Thiem match. When we got there Thiem just broke serve to go ahead 4-2. Shelton rallied back and won the set in a tie breaker. The match ended at the beginning of the second set when Thiem withdrew because of stomach issues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the tennis, we headed over to Chinatown In Flushing for a great dinner. Ross was able to join us! (We missed you Hope!)
Tumblr media
It was an awesome, exhausting, got-too-much-sun kind of day!

Welcome to the world of 20th-century music! Music has always been a powerful form of expression and storytelling, but perhaps no other century can quite match the amount of diversity that existed in the sounds coming from this century. From folk and country to soul and R&B, jazz to heavy metal, funk to rock, pop punk to hip hop musical genres sprouted up left right, and center all throughout this extraordinary period. So what is it exactly about 20th-century music that makes it so iconic? Let's take a look at some of its defining characteristics!   Introducing 20th-Century Music    Let's dive into the world of 20th-century music, where innovation and experimentation flourished. The music of this time reflects the changes and developments that were happening in society. From the early influences of jazz to the emergence of rock and roll, this century saw a revolution in musical styles and genres. Composers experimented with new instruments, techniques, and structures, breaking away from traditional forms of music. The rise of electronic music and sound technology further expanded the boundaries of what was possible. With so much diversity and innovation, 20th-century music continues to captivate and inspire listeners to this day.   Exploring the Different Styles of 20th-Century Music   The 20th century saw some incredible changes in the world of music. As different cultures mixed and clashed, boundaries between genres began to blur, and new styles emerged that pushed the limits of what was possible. From the smooth and sultry tones of jazz to the raw, stripped-down minimalism of post-punk, there's a wealth of sounds and styles to explore in this period. Whether you're a die-hard audiophile or simply curious about the evolution of music, the 20th century is a perfect place to start. So put on your headphones, turn up the volume, and let's explore some of the most innovative and exciting music of the last century!   Classical Music   Classical music has been around for centuries, yet it remains just as intriguing and captivating as it was when it first began. The timeless elegance and complexity of classical music are a true testament to the brilliant minds of composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. Whether you're listening to a symphony, a concerto, or a sonata, classical music has a way of bringing a sense of peace and tranquility to listeners, transporting them to another world entirely. Even if you're not a music buff, it's hard to deny the sheer brilliance and beauty of classical music. It's no wonder that it has remained one of the most popular genres of music to this day.   Jazz   Jazz is the perfect music genre for those who enjoy the feeling of improvisation, spontaneity, and creativity. With its roots in African American communities in the early 20th century, it quickly became a popular form of entertainment across the United States. Jazz music is known for its complex rhythms, intricate melodies, and soulful expressions. Whether you prefer listening to classic musicians like Louis Armstrong or newer artists like Kamasi Washington, jazz music never fails to transport you to a place of pure joy and freedom. So if you're feeling a little low or need a pick-me-up, turn on some jazz music and let yourself be swept away by the sounds of saxophones, pianos, drums, and everything in between.   Rock and Roll   Rock and Roll music has been a cultural phenomenon for over half a century. From the early days when Elvis Presley's hip-shaking created controversy to the modern-day stadium concerts by bands like Foo Fighters and Green Day, Rock and Roll continue to be a driving force in the music industry. The genre has given birth to many sub-genres like Metal, Punk, and Grunge, and has influenced fashion, art, and lifestyle. The power of Rock and Roll can be attributed to its ability to speak to the youth, provoke social change, and simply make people want to move and have a good time.
Whether you're a devoted fan or a casual listener, there's no denying the impact of Rock and Roll. So turn up the volume, let your hair down, and let the music take you on a wild ride.   Blues   Blues music is a genre that has the power to move us emotionally with its soulful melodies and deep-rooted lyrics. This style of music emerged in the African American communities in the United States in the late 19th century and has since spread its wings all over the world. Blues music has been greatly influenced by gospel, country, jazz, and rock and roll, and has evolved over time, giving birth to various sub-genres such as Delta, Chicago, and Texas blues. Whether it's the smooth guitar licks, the gritty vocals, or the heartfelt lyrics, there's something magical about blues that keeps us coming back for more. For anyone who has a love for music that goes beyond a simple melody, blues is definitely worth exploring.   Major Musical Innovations of the 20th Century   Music is constantly evolving and the 20th century saw some major innovations that changed the way we listen to music. One of the most prominent was the emergence of jazz music, which brought about improvisation and syncopation to create a unique sound. Another big innovation was the use of electronic instruments such as the synthesizer and drum machine, which revolutionized the way music was composed and produced. The introduction of rock and roll also had a massive impact on popular music, creating a genre that continues to be influential to this day. Finally, the rise of hip-hop and rap music brought a new level of creativity to the music industry with powerful lyrics, sampling techniques and scratching- a skill that requires precision and creativity. Through these innovations, the 20th century will forever be remembered as a time of musical transformation.   The Influences of 20th-Century Music on Modern Music   Have you ever listened to modern music and wondered where the inspiration for those melodies came from? Well, look no further than the 20th century. The music of that time period had a profound impact on the sounds we hear today. From the jazz greats like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington to the rock legends like Elvis Presley and The Beatles, the musicians of the past century created some of the most popular and recognizable tunes in history. Even genres like hip-hop and electronic dance music can trace their roots back to the sounds of the past. It's amazing to think about how the music that we love today is built upon the foundation laid down by those who came before us.   Tips for Listening to and Appreciating 20th Century Music   When it comes to listening to 20th-century music, many people feel intimidated or unsure of where to start. However, with a few tips in mind, you can learn to appreciate the unique soundscapes and styles that emerged during this era. One of the best ways to get started is to focus on the context in which the music was created. Consider the cultural and political influences that shaped the music, as well as the innovations and experiments that the artists were undertaking. Additionally, try to keep an open mind and be willing to step outside of your musical comfort zone. You never know what new sounds and genres you might discover and fall in love with. Above all, remember that listening to music should be an enjoyable and enriching experience, so don't be afraid to have fun and experiment with different approaches until you find what works for you.   Conclusion: From Debussy to Zappa, the 20th century was an incredibly fertile period for musical exploration and innovation. Meanwhile, in the Louis Armstrong Stadium...
The night session kicked off with ninth seed Taylor Fritz, who defeated wild card Steve Johnson 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 and Juan Pablo Varillas 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in the first two rounds, taking on qualifier Jakub Mensik, who dug deep to defeat Gregoire Barrere 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-2 in the first round, then fellow qualifier Titouan Droguet 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(1), 6-3 in the second round. Interestingly, this meeting would be the first match J. Mensik played as an 18-years-old, since he qualified for the third round several days ago.
While playing on the big stage is something J. Mensik always dreamed on, T. Fritz's level in the match was already something else right from the start of the match. This was further visible from the fourth game, where he had a cross-court forehand winner to set a break point before he eventually broke to 3-1. He then consolidated the lead to 4-1 before another forehand winner resulted in another break point creation, allowing him to serve for the first set breadstick later on.
However, there was a little hurdle when T. Fritz should have served for the first set. A volley exchange between J. Mensik and T. Fritz was finished with the latter's volley to set up a set point. Despite a little hiccup out of an error, T. Fritz kept his service game solid, served the breadstick (6-1) by the end of the first set to assert his dominance.

[ad_1] NEW YORK : Daniil Medvedev survived a late night U.S. Open scare on Thursday by taming Australian battler Christopher O'Connell 6-2 6-2 6-7(6) 6-2 to reach the third round at Flushing Meadows. After strolling to a two-set lead Medvedev had looked headed for routine passage but in the end the third-seeded Russian needed all his resolve to push O'Connell to the exit. The party atmosphere inside Louis Armstrong Stadium was starkly different from the last time Medvedev and O'Connell stood across from each other during the dark days of COVID-19 restrictions. That 2020 second-round match, which O'Connell described as "eerie", was played in an empty arena with the exception of the players, their coaches and officials while Thursday's clash was electric, with roars erupting after almost every point.Medvedev broke to open both the first and second sets and was in complete control until O'Connell tapped into the energy of the crowd that was now squarely in the Australian's corner. With chants of, "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi" rising from the stands, O'Connell dug in to take the third set to a tiebreak when a shaky Medvedev double-faulted to hand him a well-deserved third set.But Medvedev did not become the 2021 U.S. Open champion without surviving a few tests and used that experience to regroup, breaking O'Connell to go up 3-1 in the fourth and never letting the Australian back into the set. 2022 US Open Tennis Live Streaming Options
As Per Robyn Sztyndor, in 2022, the US Open tennis event was the year's fourth Grand Slam. The 141st edition was held on the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center's outdoor hard courts in Flushing Meadows, New York City. The greatest players from across the globe competed in the competition. It also brought a record-breaking crowd of 144,768 people to Flushing Meadows.
The 141st US Open tennis tournaments started on August 30 and will conclude on September 12, 2022. The 2020 edition was canceled because to the COVID-19 epidemic, however the 2022 US Open will be conducted with full attendance. The live streaming choices for the US Open tennis competition are listed below. You may watch tennis matches on your computer or mobile device by selecting from the options below.
The Louis Armstrong Stadium served as the primary showcase court for the US Open 2022. Botic van de Zandschulp and Leylah Fernandez both won their five-set bouts. The singles finals for men and women will be held on September 12 and 13, respectively. The Southern and Western Opens are combined into one event. So, whether you're a tennis lover or a US Open fan, keep an eye out for the next big event's streaming possibilities.
Robyn Sztyndor explains, Novak Djokovic is the top seed in men's singles and is aiming for his eighth Grand Slam title. He also wants to break the tie that he has with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Naomi Osaka, the 2020 US Open women's singles winner, defeated Victoria Azarenka in the final. Since Arantx Sanchez Vicario in 1994, this was the first women's US Open victory.
The USTA will once again give equal prize money in both women's singles and men's doubles. The men's doubles champion will share $660,000. The USTA will additionally contribute $6 million to the qualifying draw, bringing the total prize pool to even greater levels than in 2019.
The US Open was won by British Joe Salisbury and American Rajeev Ram in the men's doubles. In the first set, Ram and Salisbury battled with their serves, only getting slightly more than half of their first serves. This enabled Murray and Soares to profit from the errors. It's worth noting that this event is taking place at New York City's Flushing Meadows. In the round of 16, a third place for both players will be decided.
The US Open series, which spans eight events throughout North America, culminates in this event. This allows tennis lovers to play from coast to coast throughout the summer. In addition, the US Open series offers tennis to American television screens. The best way to enjoy the event in real time is to watch it live online. By joining up to the US Open website, you may watch every match live online.
In Robyn Sztyndor’s opinion, in the United States, the US Open will be aired on ESPN and Tennis Channel. In addition, beIN Sports in the Middle East, ESPN International in Central and South America, TSN in Canada, and SuperSport in Africa will broadcast the competition. On July 15, at 12 p.m. ET, tickets will go on sale. SBS is a fantastic choice for folks who do not have pay television. There's no better spot to watch all the excitement, no matter where you reside.
This year's top seed is Novak Djokovic, who has previously won the US Open twice. He has yet to lose a complete match at the US Open and is on his way to winning THE GRAND SLAM, tennis' greatest prize. If he wins the Grand Slam, he will be the first player since 1988 to do it. He'll almost certainly be the next great player to reach the US Open finals.
The Billie Jean King National Tennis Center hosts the US Open. The Grandstand Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium were renovated extensively in 2018 and are now open to the public. The competition will also provide more hospitality alternatives. Expect wild spin strokes and a dazzling assortment of court-side activity. The US Open is a sight to see for fans as well. While many individuals like the sport, not everyone is able to see it. The Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is an excellent example of this.
Fans of the US Open may eat in the US Open food village in addition to the stadium and arena. The culinary village will have pizza, seafood, kosher cuisine, and more in addition to deli favorites. Pizza, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages are among the food and beverage choices. For 31 years, TicketCity has been a dependable provider of US Open tickets. Please note that TicketCity is not linked with the official US Open website.
