recs. you know, for supportive sunday.
So, still the same discalaimer that I'm trying to learn tumblr and trying to interact more in the fandom spaces and generally just trying to come out of my quiet corner every now and then with some actual contribution. Still finding it surprisingly difficult.
Real life has been somewhat all-consuming lately, and reading fic and even just conversations on Slack and Discord has been a rare indulgence but a lifeline of sorts anyway. Even if I haven't had the energy for more than a quick kudos most of the time.
I'm hoping to fix that and leave more feedback and also rec some works that I've enjoyed. I picked three multi-chapter fics for now. Two of these are WIP's that I'm currently reading and one is an older fic that I haven't yet finished but I'm completely hooked by!
The Complication of Memory by @espritneo-aka-thatsuittho
A Craig!Bond x Legends crossover verse with a really compelling story that's easy to follow even though I'm not otherwise familiar with Legends. Very good characterization and interesting realationship dynamics between Bond, Q and Martin/Alec. WIP.
Important Dates by @ato-the-bean
I love this series because you can read every chapter as a sort-of oneshot. It has a continuous plot but every chapter is a satisfying read in itself. Chapters are posted on various holidays and themed accordingly. It's nice to get to see especially Q out of the role of his work persona. 00Q slowburn goodness. WIP.
Secrets, Spies and Family Ties by @ao3-brihna
I watched London Spy a while ago and read a lot of good fix-its but somehow I managed to miss this whole series of fantastic writing. I'm so glad that I randomly found it now. It's a totally original twist to LS at least for me, intriguing and well-written. 00Q and Danny/Alex, with Q and Danny being brothers. Although I've only read up to ch.5 of part 1 I felt that I have to rec this whole series right now.

💕for the @mi6-cafe‘s amazing first supportive sunday of 2019 event:
it is so very hard to choose a single fic to rec in such a talented fandom, so i didn’t! these are only some of a treasure mine of shining gems; my methodology was to trawl through the first 200 or so fics i have bookmarked and pick five of the least-kudosed ones. there are plenty of fics that i didn’t list here that deserve a rec, either because they’re very well known in the fandom or because they’re just farther down on my bookmarks list. enjoy, and definitely, definitely comment.
but first, a few author shout-outs: easily some of my favorite fics in this fandom, and some of my favorite fics ever, have been written by @beginte and @castillon02. my rec list could easily just have pulled entirely from their backlists, but instead i’m going to wave incoherently in their direction and recommend in particular cas’s Exit, Pursued by a Bear (350 words; there is a bear) and beginte’s Go often to the house of thy friend (2k, features CAMILLE, what else do you need to know). THEY’RE GREAT. 💕
SOMETHING SEXY: Crossed Wires [releasetheglitch]
4k. an incredibly cute au where q is an android and james helps him have weird robot sex in addition to the weird human sex they’re already having. q’s wide-eyed innocence is such a cool take on the canon character, and bond is sometimes tender, sometimes amused, and always loving. also, there is weird robot sex.
SOMETHING ANGSTY: dynamite (for the matchbox in your head) [beili]
5k. q fights to save james’s life after blofeld’s drill puts him in a coma (and causes him to hallucinate the last quarter of spectre). bond’s voice is exactly the right balance of wry, observant, and inappropriately nonchalant about the possibility of his death, but the narration never lets you forget the stakes, and ghosts are involved.
SOMETHING ACTION: Parallel Jump [Mistflyer1102]
23k. q falls into an alternate universe and meets brosnan!bond and an old friend-turned-enemy. his boyfriend james goes after him. a retelling of goldeneye with the inclusion of q and craig!bond; it’s a lot of fun whether you’ve seen the movie or not (i read it once before seeing the movie and then immediately after i did see the movie), and some really sharp contemplation about what makes james bond james bond, what with two of them running around and all.
SOMETHING SWEET: A System of Touch [@svengooliecat]
3k. bond slowly learns to trust q's touches. bond as a heat-seeking cuddleslut is incredibly, subtly sweet in this history of their growing relationship, as is q's gentleness and care for him. if you like bond feeling safe enough to sleep around q, bond being compared to a cat, and dry, snappy narration, you will really like this fic.
SOMETHING (ALMOST) CANON: but lets talk about you for a minute [CallicoKitten]
6k. after spectre, bond comes back because he’s the only one who can get blofeld to testify. blofeld has some interesting ideas about his relationship with q. featuring a wonderful madeleine who can take care of herself, an ornery q, and plenty of eve and tanner.
and a self-rec too; “How He Laughs” was really a labor of love for me and a gift to the entire bond fandom, locating spectre in a universe where q and bond have gone on a date before the events of the movie and blofeld has a much more sinister plan in mind. bond does pine. q does get kidnapped. there are kisses. read and comment, comment, comment!

This was not such a day.
