007 FEST 2023 / Fix-It Day

[The greatest fix-it experts lie within the @00qad-fandom. There is nothing we have not endured and subsequently fixed. Forever.]

A FIX-IT DAY COLLAB BROUGHT TO YOU BY @kitten-kin of @teamqbranch and @a-forger-and-a-point-man of @teamofvillains!

Every year after the buzz and the noise and the packed calendars of Pride Month and 007 Fest are behind them, the 00QAD family pack up the cars for the 10-hour drive up to the Scottish Highlands to Skyfall, where they spend August keeping Kincade company and getting some fresh air.

James loves driving all the way in his highly prized Aston Martin DB5, and Danny joins him for the intimate (read: cramped) ride. It's very special for Danny because he's never really had nice things - and James treats him like a star.

This naturally means that the more grounded and practical gentlemen in the family - Q and Alex - take a more sensible vehicle that fits luggage and two cats on leashes and their litter box. It's a lot safer to have two cars for the journey anyway.

When they pull up to Skyfall, Kincade's doggos run up in excitement to the familiar faces, but they're immediately put in their place by @princesspampuria who scares the SHIT out of these fierce hunting companions. The boss lady has arrived.

Pam loves the August vacation because she can hunt sheep and deer, and yes, she does it alone, and no, not always for food. Possibly just blood thirst and sport.

Kincade always has the finest Scottish salmon prepared for his little princess. Despite James' best efforts, Kincade is as in love with Pam as Q is.

It has taken a few years for James and Kincade to reconnect - or even reconcile, in many ways - and get to the place they're in now. James isn't used to genuine, older, wiser, paternal mentorship. But no matter how old he gets, he sure as hell needs it, and the boys are keenly aware of that.

Kincade knows what they all do now. He doesn't ask too many questions, but he allows them the space to let things out when they need to. He loves them like his own children and grandchildren, and this is what James must get used to: a natural, unconditional, familial love that isn't tied to what he does or where he's been. It's just there.

This yearly visit to Skyfall is also critical for James to reflect on where he came from, and spend time at his parents' gravesite. When a man knows his roots and understands that he was always loved, it changes him.

All that said, Kincade's favorite humans are actually Danny and Alex. Danny and Kincade send each other care packages throughout the year, and Danny is such a wonderful listener to the lifetime of stories Kincade always shares around the fire.

Turing always joins them, laying across Kincade's lap. Turing was officially given to Alex by Q to be his therapy cat, so Turing recharges in these settings.

Alex is also a good listener, but he knows to take advantage of what Kincade can teach him in the time they have together. They are both very outdoorsy people, and Kincade has taught Alex hunting, fishing, archery, and the cooking of certain animal parts. Alex is game to try out new things.

Q and Kincade have a warm and cordial relationship, but Q lives in his own head a lot, and he's not exactly fond of lacing up his hiking boots for a sunrise trek. So he'll spend. lot of time doing maintenance on Skyfall's security system, broadband connectivity, and electrical supply.

You're wondering what Kincade thinks of their relationship. And that's a very valid question. He thinks they're all well-raised gentlemen and he wouldn't trade them for the universe, and that helps tremendously in accepting that his little James - that jumped up shit - has become a man with not just an unconventional job, but an unconventional family life. They're all happy, and that makes Kincade happy, and Danny teaches him about queer culture and how to celebrate Pride at Skyfall. Kincade still affectionately calls the community "the gays" and tells his mates down at the pub that all of his sons have delivered him sons-in-law.

A great amount of time is spent in the kitchen on making three meals a day and eating together at the table. There's hearty haddock soup and tattie scones and plenty of "stovies" after their big Sunday roast. The twins' sweet tooth (Q & Danny) means Kincade always has plenty of ingredients to make his famous Cranachan every week.

Danny and Turing bake pawprint shortbread to leave as a parting gift for Kincade, and the boys all make sure they've cleaned up and done the laundry and are leaving the house in better shape than they found it.

Goodbyes are never easy, and Danny cries, and Pam cries too then screams bloody murder and refuses to let go of Kincade. An ice box filled with wild Scottish salmon for the ride helps a little bit. After a month, even the doggos are sad to see the boss lady go.

James never ever shows that he's getting emotional, but in the car, alone with Danny, he lets out the breath he's been holding, and confesses that the trip was the best time of his life - until next year.

00QAD heacanon

Alex was saved in the nick of time, but still had to leave, and being angry at the people and the system ended up dropping off the radar and turning his skills to trying to find information to expose the corrupt and nefarious deeds of the government. But Danny, believing he was gone set out on his own mission of revenge, learning to code, and getting swept up into 6 as a way of keeping him "silent" and "under control". But he still has a purpose he keeps hidden, planning to rise through the ranks and get access to everything he can, and he eventually gets promoted to the Quartermaster position.

As Q, he finds himself pitted against an unknown hacker that is trying to crack his system, and they end up testing each other repeatedly, the hacker trying to gain access, and q-branch trying to track him down, until Q think he's found an opening and the hacker expresses his anger at being torn from the one he loved, from the life he could and should have had, and he won't stop until the government pays... and the gears are turning.... Q finds a way to reach out and offer an alliance, not yet realising who it is

007 Fest Headcanon Day - 00QAD!

Inspired by @a-forger-and-a-point-man, please have some 00QAD pride day headcanons!

Danny and James go all out for pride day. Danny loves to dress up and have fun and James just likes the excuse to wear something with a lot less coverage than his daily suits. 

Alex and Q tend to be more subdued, but both wear more color today of course. 

Both Q and Danny have tinsel and temporary dye in their hair for pride. It doesn’t come out as well as either would have hoped so both end up looking like they have rainbow hair for at least a week after. 

Q doesn't like loud crowds, but he makes an exception for pride day because he knows how important it is to celebrate.

Alex absolutely joins in on the Ace pride section of the parade and will talk to anyone with an ear about how Ace people deserve to be a part of Pride and doesn't tolerate ace-phobia. Q joins him to show support and will absolutely punch someone for making rude comments to other ace people, but especially Alex. 

As a matter of fact none of them tolerate ace- OR bi-phobia and everyone wears pins and other signs that say things like “no room for queer-phobia”, “ace people are queer and belong here” and “bi-phobes not welcome at pride” 

If you give Danny enough drinks, he will absolutely dance on a float and join whoever was originally supposed to be there. James doesn’t even need a drink to do this, and will encourage Danny as much as possible. 

Pam and Turing both get to go to pride day in special cat carrier/strollers. Pam of course gets the best spot and has a shiny rainbow collar and some cat safe temporary dye on her ears and tail floof.

HOTTEST DAY ON RECORD IN THE UK 40.3 C - 00QAD Headcanons

Danny is dressed in a string vest and denim shorts that aren't as short as they used to be but no one is complaining. He and Turing have done their checks making sure all the older neighbours are okay and are now longing in the shade of the block's private garden. "No James we can't have a barbeque didn't you hear what the mayor said"

Bond looks like an over-the-hill-gigolo in linen trousers a sand-washed blue silk shirt that doesn't really doesn't need that many buttons undone and a can of Red Stripe fresh out of the cooler.

@princesspampuria is lounging on her umteenth cooling gel pad from the freezer and eating foie gras ice cream and frozen catinis "GRAMPS, I NEED MORE CHOP! CHOP!"

Alex is making sure everyone is hydrated with smoothes and electrolyte drinks and healthy snacks.

Q is locked in his room with foil lining the windows, ice packs strapped to his body complaining that he "isn't made for this".

Turing is the only one who isn't flustered by this not even one tiny bit

One thing is for sure they are all really looking forward to escaping to their Annual month-long trip to SkyFall

First Fest, First Day

So many, so much ❤️

Somehow I've been giddy all day, despite, well, that's a different post. Suffice to say I can use the distraction.

This is about 007 Fest, the July-long explosion of creativity and camaraderie in the James Bond-00Q-00QAD and related fandoms.

I'm new to the fandom, joined last autumn, have been completely drawn in by the amazing writing and the magnetic, magnanimous community. So many wonderful fics and artworks and discussions have "007 Fest" tags, and the rumbles ramped up around April. The countdown over the last week or so was insufficient warning for the launch.

So much cleverness, beauty, and inspiration.

I've followed more people today than in the last three months combined, and can't wait to view and read and enjoy.

Names I recognize from fics, from iconic posts, from conversation - here you are! Right here! (Liking my posts 😊 I mean wow 😳)

Names of friends, from all corners and walks, here you are, writing and drawing and liking and cheering each other on.

Dearest 00QAD Community:

As you're aware we have been holding watch parties for London Spy every year since it premiered for the show's anniversary, between Nov 9 and Dec 7.

This time around, the moderators of this blog and the 00QAD Discord Server have decided that critical, volatile, and tragic current events have quite frankly left us in no mood for something as dark as London Spy. Not when it's a show about the power-hungry establishment taking on a penniless young man who just wanted to be loved. Not when it's a show about how the government fears the potential of a single individual. And not when Alex's lie detection software is exactly what could have prevented the beginnings of a genocide.

We are not going anywhere - the fandom is as active as ever, and growing, in fact. So fear not, the 00QAD community lives on. But we just wanted to let you know that we won't be showing London Spy for the remainder of 2023. It's likely, however, that the ever-popular 00QAD Night In watch party series for the holiday season will return - so keep an eye out for some announcements to lift all our spirits.

007 Fest 2023 / Festivities Day

In which Felix Leiter takes 00QAD to the Fourth of July cookout

The suggestion comes from Alex. He’s formed a warm and unique relationship with the CIA agent who helped him lay low in America, after SPECTRE got hold of his groundbreaking lie detection software. 

Alex has fond memories of Baltimore. Felix still calls him young man and maybe James Bond is a just a little bit jealous of their friendship. 

It’s stiflingly hot, and Danny has watermelon in his hair. He’s had too much potato salad that he doesn’t have room for the spicy bean burger Felix hand made just for him, because he’s vegan. Maybe he’ll have his sandwich while they watch the fireworks later. 

James is regaling Felix’s mother and aunties with tales of adventure and romance and mystery. Felix knows he’s full of shit but he loves seeing the excitement on his mama’s face. 

Q found the neighborhood cats. He misses his own. Pampuria and Turing would absolutely devour the half-smoke he’s feeding the kitties right now, but they’re staying with their Granny Susan until he returns. He looks over and catches Felix’s eye. 

It’s a good life.
