I picked up Qiubai from the current banner and know absolutely nothing about her. She worth leveling and if so is there anything I should know about her skills/talents and how best to use them?

Qiubai is one of those units whose banner was very untimely, smack between Lin and Chongyue's limited banner, and the Monster Hunter collab limited banner (not to mention that afterwards, there was Absolute Beast Ines to account for, and a bit farther down the road, fan favorite Muelsyse and Ho'olheyak), so a lot of people decided to skip her, making her one of the rarer Operators.

But I am not a lot of people, and my main reason is "She's Fucking Cool, Your Honor".

I think she's a damn good Operator worth investing in. The main criticism levied against her, besides the unfortunate timing of her banner, is that she's Not Thorns, which is like looking at a successful and highly skilled physicist and saying that he's shit because he's not Albert Einstein. The actual criticism I would levy against her, as someone that uses her all the time, is that she does require a bit of presence of mind to use her due to the nature of her Talents requiring procs if she's not supported appropriately, and her S3 having a rather long downtime.

So, Talents (E2 no pots): First is whenever she attacks enemies affected by Slow or Bind, she deals 40% of her Attack as extra Arts damage. This is a good extra bit of juice you can squeeze out of every attack, as well as a means to deal with high Defense powerhouses. Second is that attacks have a 20% chance to Bind for 1.5 seconds. Attacks that proc this 20% apply Bind first and then count the attack, meaning that every time she procs her Second talent, her first Talent is also activated. This is true, to my knowledge, to all Operators with similar effects (such as enemies receiving extra damage when Stunned in her range; the Stunning hit benefits from this extra damage instead of having to follow up to start benefiting). Her attack interval is 1.3, meaning that whenever she procs Talent 2, she'll usually get two free Talent 1 procs in, "usually" because sometimes the enemy is actually at the edge of her range or just wandered off, and the projectile doesn't land in time.

S1 is your least used Skill, probably, but it's not useless: It's Bind centric, and Binds the enemy for 2.5 (3 M3; M3 numbers in parenthesis from hereon) seconds, followed by a small AoE explosion of 240% (300%) Arts damage once it expires. It is Automatic and Attack Charged on a low limit of 5 SP (4 SP) so it reliably gets fired off. It's honestly not a bad skill, it's just that her S2 and S3 exist.

S2 changes her range into a single file 4 tiles forward and immediately slashes all these tiles to deal 240% (300%) Arts damage and enemies in this slashed ground are Slowed throughout the duration, 5 seconds. QB gets an steroid of +90% (+140%) Attack for these 5 seconds, and when the skill expired, the initial slash explodes once again for 240% (300%) Physical damage. The slash itself CANNOT hit air units, but QB's regular attack can, be wary of this. This Skill is your go-to for general use when you just need to kill regular enemies and elites, since it gives her phenomenal true AoE capabilities, a strong steroid, and since enemies are Slowed in the slashed area, she will proc Talent 1 every time while Skill is active (against ground units, that is). All of this on a very good timer of 12 SP (10 SP), making this skill's strength its ability to reliable, consistently use it: It's ALWAYS ready when you need it, and on longer fights against very strong enemies that you need to stall for a bit, you can use it several times.

S3 changes her range to one extra side tile forward, changes damage type entirely to Arts, Talent 1 is augmented by 1.5x (2x), gives QB +45% (+55%) Attack, Lord ranged attack penalty is negated, QB attacks 2 extra targets, so 3 total per attack, and each attack animation she does gives her 13+ ASPD for the duration of the skill, stacking up to 6 (8) times. This is QB's burst skill to deal with numerous strong enemies or even just one strong enemy, to be honest. She'll become a machine gun of Arts damage, and since she's attacking so fast, she'll likely keep proccing Talent 2 repeatedly, meaning, even more damage from Talent 1, which in itself also gets augmented. The sole weakness of this skill is that it exists on a 55 SP charge, unlike her very fast S1 and S2. It lasts 30 seconds. I recommend Mastering this skill first because its gains are actually very good, due to the Attack bonus and the Talent 1 augmentation coming into play for a very drastic increase in damage.

S2 is true AoE so you use it to deal with many enemies, S3 is Arts burst so you use it to delete strong enemies. You want to pair QB up with people that can Slow or Bind enemies so you can constantly enjoy Talent 1 bonuses instead of relying on Talent 2 procs. Her Best Match is Suzuran S3 for QB's S3, since that'll just make her become absurdly devastating, but for less bursty options (Suzuran's S3 also has long downtime), you can use Angelina S2, Podenco S2, Ethan, Dorothy S2, and other such Decel Binders and Operators with consistent ability to Slow or Bind. KEEP IN MIND: It needs to be the status effect known as Slow, capitalized, not just any slow effect! Meaning, Ch'en the Holungday, for example, who spreads movement speed slowing areas with her Skills, DOES NOT combo with QB for Talent 1 purposes. It needs to be the status known as Slow (which reduces enemy movement speed by 80%).

QB's main strengths are the ability to vary damage types, synergize well with support units to hose out great damage, have reliable true AoE that can be spammed, and good burst when that is necessary, further improved by synergizing well with a popular and strong Operator (Suzuran). QB's main drawbacks are that her S3 exists on rather long downtime, and that against highly Resistant enemies, her Skills will not fare particularly well, as they all have an Arts damage component to them (you'll mainly want to use S2 here, since her steroid affects her Phys damage output and the expiration explosion is Phys).

Overall, a very fun and strong Operator! I recommend investing in her, yeah.

Imagine spending five years of your life investing in a character.

Imagine watching S1, noticing the subtle signs of a redemption arc slotting into place, and being totally on board.

Imagine seeing S2 and loving her realistic development, the superhero she becomes and the positive changes that carry onto her civilian life. (Apart from one scene of Marinette ‘encouraging’ her to bond with her mother by being as nasty as possible... yeah).

Imagine watching S3 and being disappointed that, for the most part, things seems to have come to a grinding halt with her storyline as the show obsesses with a stupid romance that goes nowhere. “Well at least the finale can’t make things... oh.”

Imagine in S4 not only pretending 3 seasons of promising development never happened, but stripping her of all humanity to turn her into a psychopathic sociopath so eevviill she makes Lila look like a girl scout by comparison.

Imagine this radical character sabotaging done with no build-up or foreshadow whatsoever, because apparently people decide to become nihilistic maniacs overnight. As you do.

Imagine introducing the most bland, flavourless, boring, pointless, arbitrary, unnecessary, nothing character EVER. (Thank you online thesaurus)

Imagine expecting her to replace Chloe in our hearts and minds, one of the emotionally rich and complex individuals at one point in time... (Until Thomas Astruc got his way)

Imagine, to add insult to injury, her name rhymes with Chloe’s, they have VERY similar color schemes, they’re sisters AND this new nobody steals her position as QB a mere two episodes later. Thomas rubbing it in? NEVER!!

Imagine destroying in short order what few relationships Chloe has left, including the precious bond she shared with her father and childhood best friend, so you can paint her as EVIL ALL ALONG.

Imagine quitting the show at this point, for your mental health’s sake and the fact the writing is objectively THE WORST, only to be bombarded with more canonical bullshit when you log onto tumblr to look at (again, objectively) the far superior fandom works.

Imagine reading what happens to Chloe during S5 thanks to Zag’s airtight security methods, and no longer being upset because now the whole sorry farce borders on bad parody. When I approach it in that frame of mind, it doesn’t bother me half as much. Hello coping mechanism!!

This post was inspired by something I read online about Chloe’s eventual fate compared to Gabriel’s, and the contrast between the ignominious end of a troubled teenage girl and the tears shed for a ruthless terrorist who tried to murder THOUSANDS of people was... definitely something.

So it's been a week since my microdiscectomy. I've had a herniated disc for 15 years at L5/S1. It just kept progressing over the years and my dumbass just kept pushing through.

Let's talk about it and how things have gone so far.

Day 1: Surgery day. I woke up and felt no pressure and no pain in my legs. My pain was very well controlled with meds. (the heavy shit Morphine, Dilaudid, vicodin) was able to get up and use the bathroom.

Day 2: I think my body was in more shock than it was pain. Very shaky/wobbly. Still very medicated at this point. Was on another planet. Went home. 3 hour car ride wasn't terrible. Moved to pain pills at this point instead of IV. (I preferred the pills because they lasted longer, tis why we have so many addicts) This is also the day I started having muscle spasms in my lower back, legs and hips. It felt like I had bugs crawling around in those areas and I honestly thought I was losing my mind. They assured me it was normal but you could sit and watch my muscles just dance. Trippy.

Day 3: Was able to shower and start taking small walks. Pain was bearable with medication. Still was having muscle spasms. This was a good day.

Day 4: The swelling started. As the day progressed the pain got worse. Not necessarily the incision area but the muscles surrounding it. I still made myself get up and walk to my little post a few times. Definitely felt unsteady.

Day 5: Haha. PAIN. There it was. I had been waiting for this kind of pain. Pain with every movement. I still couldn't sit straight up at this point either. This was the worst day but the muscle spasms stopped.

Day 6: Pain and swelling are still there but it's controlled with Tylenol. I kept walking and decided to try to drive up the road and it went well. It was comfortable to sit in my car because I have great seats lol.

Day 6: Woke up with very little pain. Had some muscle soreness. Decided to take a drive and did just fine with some Tylenol. Went and saw QB this night and was feeling pretty good. Muscles started to get sore after a bit.

Day 7: Woke up pretty sore. Both cheeks felt like I had done some major workout. Wild. I only had to take Tylenol/ibuprofen once.

Day 8: Today I'm still pretty sore. My left leg is more so than the right. That was the one effected more before the surgery. The muscles up my whole back, sides and hips are just on fire like I worked out heavily yesterday lol. They feel pretty tired/weak. I did take some ibuprofen this morning when I got up and it feels better now.

The Kent family dynamics are interesting and I like exploring each boy’s relationship with each parent and their internal struggle, but the XK+ Jon’s relationships issues with his parents (especially  Clark) is getting dragged out. I don’t want an easy fix or anything, but they way it takes over pretty much Jon’s entire screen time this season, and a lot of his screen time in s1, makes it feel dragged out. I get that flaws in family dynamics/parenting styles don’t always (or even usually) get spotted easily, because it is easy to see patterns when watching a tv show, it’s harder to do in real life. But I just wish they would get on with it already. 

My personal preference would have been that the xk-scandal was the turning point and after that things started moving forward. There would be some tension and arguing, but also some progress betwen Clois and Jon in 2x08, but after that, things would start improving between them and episodes 2x09-2x13 would include at least one talk each addressing at least one the issues Jon is facing (expect 2x10, which would have Clark interacting with Jon-El instead). There would be some arguing (covering for Candace, Jon wanting weapons to protect himself, which his parents are unsure about at first). But overall more listening, bonding and discussing solutions for specific problems.

2x08: One or two big talks about the xk, why Jon is covering for the dealer and why he took some himself. Not everything is fixed or and it doesn’t address everything, but at least sometings are out in the ope and it is a good step forward.

2x09-2x13: At some point Jon has a talk with Lois about being on the sidelines and feeling left out when Clark and Jordan bond about their powers, where Lois reminds him that while it is a unique experience having their powers, he should focus on the things he can do and everthing that connects him with his brother and father.

2x09-2x12: A scene between him and Jordan where they address how Jon feels like the town pariah, while Jordan is saving people, and how he feels about Jordan protecting him. Jordan points out that he doesn’t see Jon as a screw up, he just wanted to protect his gf+ only cheated during one game before regretting it, that at least he didn’t break his brother’s arm when he decided to play football with powers, reminds him that Jon has done plenty of badass stuff himself (like saving clark from JHI, saving lois and sam from Egde’s subjects) and that he is just happy to be able repay Jon for all the times he has been there for him.

2x11-13: Bring up how Clois tend to encourage Jon to stay positve and wait for things to get better, instead of validating his feelings and letting him be upset whenever he has a problem that can’t be easily solved right away (like being unhappy with moving to Smallville or not making starting qb). 

 2x11 or 2x12 brings back the issue around Jon feeling unsafe and wanting means to protect himself.  

2x12-2x13 there is a talk in the truck after a driving lesson between Clark and Jon, where they talk about what things Jon might be interested in besides sports. They discuss mechanics as an option, Clark suggest shop class for Jon and mentions that it is something that is “in the family” since they come from a long line of scientist on Krypton and that Jonathan Sr. taught Clark alot about fixing machinery. This could lead to a discussion about Clark wanting to find time to teach the boys more about Krypton and House of El. 

2x08 could end on a positive or negative note between Clois and Jon. In both versions Jon explains his side. Clois explain that they don’t know enough about X-K to know if it is safe for his health, and while his intentions are good, then covering for the dealer is hurting him and could get ppl hurt or even killed, since X-K is dangerous. They also remind him that football (and sports in general) are far from being the only thing in the world he is good at, and that they weren’t pulitzer prize winners or superhero’s at his age anyways. Not everything is fixed or even out in the open, but it is a good step forward. 

The positive version would involve Clois managing to convince Jon to reveal Candace’s identity in exchange for immunity or he reveal who the supplier is instead, either because Clois convince him that it is best for the dealer to get out of the xk-selling buisness, no matter how much they need the money, or because Jon and Candace realize after being attacked by Mickey that dealing x-k isn’t a safe career path. Clois’ fight with Jon would end there in 2x08, but it would still impact the plot because the part about covering for Candace would brought up in/lead to discussions about things like honesty, trust, how to protect people and if the boys are ready to make big descions for themselves, and the part about using xk would be used to address Jon’s insecurities. 

In negative version Clois fail to consider bringing up the danger that the dealer could be in and Mickey attacking them doesn’t change his mind either, so Jon still won’t reveal Candace’s identity. So while Clois are fairly sure that Jon will be more careful about cheating and using substances not sold in any grocery store food aisles, then they still have to deal with him hiding the dealer’s identity. This means that Jon’s fight with his parents would end in 2x11 instead of 2x08. 2x11 is still about Jon and Clark trying to reconcile, which would at first but then succeed by the end. Then 2x12-13 would rebuild their relationship and the last two episodes focuse on other stuff like fighing Ally and convincing Jon-El to join them.

OUAT didn't queerbait though it very clearly showed very early on in S2 that Emma's main love interest was gonna be a man. Meanwhiile we're on S5 of 911 and they have yet to introduce(and I don't include Lucy cause she's bad news) anything remotely resembling anything close to an LI for Buddie and that's a huge mistake because nothing will ever capture the magnitude and romance the two have with one another. I read your posts and they give me so much hope that I'm not being delusional with all the parallels. Which have to be for a reason.

OK, I started writing a reply to this and I noticed that I’m rambling about OUAT ‘coz I loved that show. Turns out I have SO much to say, especially about the magnificence of s1′s True Love’s Kiss being Emma discovering she has a mother’s true love for Henry despite everything she had been robbed of and the walls that that made her put up. But then it got really long so let me try and focus on the queerbaiting. 

I think the big question to determine whether something is QB is whether it’s noticeable that the show INTENDS for at least some viewers to ship two specific characters of the same sex, but with no intention of ever making them canon (and sticking by this). So, determining intention is always tricky. It has to be blatant for us as viewers to be confident of it. Another issue in determining QB is to keep in mind that even if a show starts out not intending to let its same-sex ship go canon, but then it listens to its viewers and changes course, it’s no longer QB either (even if it maybe started out that way). Keeping that in mind, I think there is no real way to ever determine QB until a show is over, because knowing what the showrunners ended up doing is critical, too (not to mention that things that happen along the way can illuminate the question of intention). So I personally don’t wanna define 911 and Buddie in this context, at least not before the show is over.

But without a doubt, we’re on s5, there have been no external LI’s that can compete with the depth and intensity, love and trust, ease, comfort, humor, life sharing, compatibility and insane chemistry that Buddie have. And I don’t think they’ll ever manage to either. By all means, if Tim and Kristen have a single brain cell, they should allow Buddie to go canon. Nothing less will do.

Ml fandom racism

The racism towards Alya has been talked to death and people have stood up for her which is great!

But people think racism means only Alya as a character and that isn't right.

Nino and Max have both been forgotten by the fandom and it's just annoying to see that more people don't talk about them.

Nino, being the male lead's best friend is put aside for the white characters - Chloe, Luka, Felix. You think I'm probably exaggerating but Chloe (blonde bully) has more stans and Queen Bee is a more popular character than Carapace, even in fanarts and for what? Chloe has endangered peoples' lives and has a bad attitude towards everyone and sometimes there isn't any redemption. I have no problem with Chloe stans except some of them are hypocritical.

Fanarts usually have 4 main heroes - LB,CN,RR,QB and Carapace is just some forgotten guy and this is mostly all fanarts.

Then you have Luka, look personally I'm cool with him, he's just not interesting enough. But then you have more Lukadrien fanfics than Adrino and just what??? People have Luka replace Nino and Luka and Adrien prob haven't interacted like besides a few words. You really expect me to believe it is't racism????? Then you have Luka find out their identities and I just..

What do I even say about Felix? People in the fandom worship him and for what???

Marichat shippers are guilty of this too, they decide to replace Nino with Marinette in every instance they can find. I like Marichat but I've seen this happen so many times that it just feels forced at some point. Why won't Adrien go to his best friend? Why do people keep replacing Nino with Marinette for every small inconvenience?

And don't get me started with Nino salt!

Nino salt is just because he's Alya's bf. The Nino is basically Alya part 2 and mirrors whatever Alya is saying. He's not even his own character! And the same thing happens in the show! Nino is reduced to only Alya's bf! And if roles were reversed you would be mad too.

Nino in the show has a personality, as shown in Horrificator, Anansi etc but the writers refuse to explore it. What's worse is that Thomas called Nino a main character but compared to Chloe gets even less screen and any screen he gets is basically Alya's bf. Look I like djwIFI BUT LET NINO BE HIS OWN CHARACTER.

Hell the only centric episode till now was Rocketear and that was all over the place. Nino jealous since when? And people are upset about the Nino stalking Alya's place but then you have CN cause an akuma due to his jealousy in S1 and Marinette having Adrien's schedule and don't take this as salt on Marinette and Adrien. This was 1 episode of Nino, 1 episode and even that goes to show how much Nino thinks CN is annoying WHICH ISNT EVEN TRUE SINCE IN S2 OR 3 HE WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW HE ADMIRED LB N CN.

The writers simply wanted to isolate Adrien and used Nino to do it. You're telling me Nino who didn't reveal his identity for 3 seasons, is a worse secretkeeper?

Rocketear has it good moments, it did but it just destroyed Nino's character and used Nino as a plot device in the Ladynoir conflict.

I just want more people to acknowledge Nino as a character, because he does have a personality. You can rewatch s1 and s2 and see Nino's characteristics, you can see his stubbornness in Horrificator and how he got akumatised because he wanted to give his best friend a bday party.

Hell this is the guy who unknowingly created Adrienette.

Alex was saved in the nick of time, but still had to leave, and being angry at the people and the system ended up dropping off the radar and turning his skills to trying to find information to expose the corrupt and nefarious deeds of the government. But Danny, believing he was gone set out on his own mission of revenge, learning to code, and getting swept up into 6 as a way of keeping him "silent" and "under control". But he still has a purpose he keeps hidden, planning to rise through the ranks and get access to everything he can, and he eventually gets promoted to the Quartermaster position.

As Q, he finds himself pitted against an unknown hacker that is trying to crack his system, and they end up testing each other repeatedly, the hacker trying to gain access, and q-branch trying to track him down, until Q think he's found an opening and the hacker expresses his anger at being torn from the one he loved, from the life he could and should have had, and he won't stop until the government pays... and the gears are turning.... I saw many people tweeted that Chloe is not deserved the threatment she received in the show (i.e being her miraculous taken from her, being bashed, etc), she helps lb selflessly only for lb to take her only way to redeem herself, to show she can be better person and the only reason why she's treated badly is because Thomas hate her, that's why he refused to give her a redemption arc and instead keep calling her a villain. What do you think of it? And what do you think of Chloe as a character?

I’ll come off clean right away. I too believed in Chloé. I too hoped for her to get better and gave her a chance. Was I disappointed by the turn she took? Yes. Just like Ladybug and Chat Noir too were disappointed I’m sure. Was I surprised by this development though? No. 

It all comes down to 3 things that lead Chloé’s development to this result.

Chloé’s traits and motivations. 

What the Bee Miraculous represented to Chloé

Chloé’s trust toward Ladybug

Let’s go back to the beginning of Chloé’s development. Despair Bear. Chloé is forced to make an effort and be nicer otherwise she will lose Adrien’s friendship.

Chloé : How can [Adrien] do this to me, Jean-Michel?

She doesn’t understand why she has this ultimatum. She isn’t reflecting on her actions. She just want Adrien to be her friend again. With the help of her butler though, Chloé works her way through. It’s a bumpy road and she obviously doesn’t like doing this. At. All. She always questions the point of this nice action or that other one, but she forces herself only not to lose Adrien’s friendship which obviously means a lot to her, but she finds this whole experience is annoying.

During the Akuma attack though, she does rescue Ladybug from being Catalysmed by a Chat Noir controlled by Despair Bear, but what does Chloé say immediately after she has realized she had been actually helpful for once?

LB : Thanks, Chloé Chloé : Hey! I was really nice just then! Did you see? No?

She boasts about her actions, wanting people to notice her. The whole audience doing the Anime Fall™ illustrates that boasting about being nice defeat the initial purpose. Doing nice actions should be because it is the right and natural thing to do, not to expect glory and reward afterward, even if Chloé instinctively wanted to protect someone she deeply idolizes.

After helping Ladybug out to defeat Despair Bear, Chloé realizes there are some benefits to being nice, yes, but what does Chloé do after showing she is capable of making an effort and secured back Adrien’s friendship? She sighs of relief, a burden lift out of her shoulders, and reverts back to her usual self.

Now I know people will say “It’s just to maintain the statu quo”. But when you look back at this episode after Miracle Queen or even after Miraculer, you realize Despair Bear had a lesson in it that concerns people like Chloé. That is they can make an effort to be nicer and can sometimes be helpful but if they don’t want to become a better person, to be kinder to others, then they won’t change.

Over S2, we see Chloé under a new light. She isn’t just a spoiled rich bully. She is human too. When she is hurt, she hurts back. Marinette -- and by extension the viewers -- learns to see that side of Chloé and empathizes with her. But while it explains it, her snobbish, mean and entitled attitude still isn’t acceptable. Not when living in society. 

But Chloé does make some some progress through S2. Small. But still, progress. Like during Zombizou, where Chloé admits for the first time her actions has hurt people.

Or the end of Queen Wasp where Chloé finally accepts to give back the Bee Miraculous she had found to Ladybug, admitting she had been irresponsible with how to use that power. 

Or during Malediktator, when Chloé opens up to Ladybug, telling her the truth and how useless she feels.

That was a start. Chloé showed us she was capable of doing that when renouncing or not expecting to have a Miraculous. However, after Queen Bee is officially recognized as one of Ladybug’s allies, something else happened. 

After actually saving Paris during Malediktaor, Chloé got a party celebrating Queen Bee, celebrating her.

Marinette was trying to do some positive reinforcement to encourage Chloé.

Marinette : Well, she did save Paris, so... maybe  she just may be able to save herself too, am I right? [...] If she feels like she can be useful, I’m sure she’ll change her attitude.

“[Chloé] just may be able to save herself”

It isn’t Ladybug’s responsibility to change Chloé so she could become a better person, but Chloé’s. Ladybug can help her a bit, by showing support and guiding her, but it is ultimately Chloé who has to work on herself in order to save herself AKA to begin redeeming herself if she wants to. Like how Chloé desired to save her dad and fix her mistake. However, Chloé’s secret identity being publicly known has jeopardized that process. 

Look at the ending of Malediktator. Chloé has a party but instead of taking pics with her and the crowd, or with people she cherishes or is thankful about, what do we get? 

A selfie of her with her with no one else around her posted on her social media, showing us her self-centred image. 

This behaviour repeats itself during Heroes Day as well. Everyone has prepared a nice action for the day and what was Chloé’s? Accepting to sign autographs since now she is a superhero. 

And at the end of the finale, yes, she is included in the group picnic, but how is she staged on the set?

She sits on a lounge chair, not directly touching the ground where everybody else is sitting. She refuses to eat home-made meals, preferring fancy sushis. And finally, she has her butler break apart her chopsticks for her, without even politely asking him by looking him in the eyes.

What does this scene tells the audience compare to the scene where Chloé is dismantling her Bee “Lair” without any help at the end of Malediktator, telling her butler she’ll do it because she has to do this herself. (Translation : I have to fix that error of mine myself”).

As S2 concluded, since Queen Bee is now officially one’s of Ladybug superhero teammates and that everyone knows QB is Chloé, she feels above everyone else, refusing to sit at the same level as them. She still doesn’t care about others’ feelings. She expects people to serve her. Even her “benevolent” action of signing autographs for Heroes Day revolved more around herself than acutally helping others. 

This is where Chloé’s character stands. This is what she values. Herself. Her needs. She feels morally superior. She has ascended to greater heights. She acts entitled because Ladybug has trusted her with a Miraculous once or twice. And it is this attitude Chloé never tries to fix and that has lead her to her descent. 

The people who are mad about Chloé’s development throughout S3 often misinterpret the real reason why Chloé constantly wanted to be Queen Bee to begin with. What the Bee Miraculous truly represented to her. 

Chloé didn’t want to be a superhero because she wanted to help people nor was it because she felt bad about how awful she had been to everyone in general and wanted to make amends. Chloé didn’t need a Miraculous for that. She could have accomplished that progress simply as a civilian if she had wanted to. 

It wasn’t because Chloé still had something to prove to her mother either. That was settled at the end of Queen Wasp. Her mother had acknowledged her and was staying in Paris, with her. Audrey finally gave the recognition Chloé longed for. (Though I admit “you are exceptionally mean like your mother” is a shitty reason, but hey! At least Chloé got her mother’s attention and love now, so little yeah...?) And in Malediktator, we see Audrey taking Chloé’s side, agreeing they should leave for New York together.

As for wanting to be loved by others, Chloé has already the affection and attention from other people such as her butler, Sabrina, Ms Bustier, and even her father who overly spoils her, satisfying every of Chloé’s desires. They were there for her even before she got her hand on a Miraculous. And it wasn’t because Chloé wanted the power to protect the people she cared about either nor was it her symbol for a second chance.

No, Chloé only cared about herself and the reason why she wanted to be Queen Bee everytime she could is because, to her, having a Miraculous means you are part of the elites. 

Miraculous Holders are chosen ones. Litterally! There are only a few select of them. They get to be famous, glorified, celebrated (Heroes Day). They get movies made about them (Animaestro). They get to be on the news, interviewed. To have their image show everywhere. To have fans. To be adulated, respected, listened to. They are exceptional. Superior. 

And this isn’t new with Chloé. Ever since S1, fame and status has always been a motivator for her to do things. To be exceptional. Not just to be seen by her mother (though it started it like that), but for everyone to see it. 

In fact, when there is an Akuma attack, is Chloé helping others around her or is she abandoning everyone and heading straight to light her bee signal while buzzing with excitement? Does she stay steady just in case Ladybug needs her or is she expecting Ladybug to ask for QB’s help every time? Is Chloé resilient about QB not being needed all the time or frustrated to sit on the bench? What does Chloé do to fix this? Does she give herself a purpose as a civilian or does she cling even more to Ladybug to bring her the Bee Miraculous?

Basically when Chloé is offering her help, in reality, she just want to be a superhero for the glory of it rather than actually caring for or helping people around her. 

When Chloé asks for “her” Miraculous and constantly clinging for Ladybug to give it to her, it means she only sees value when she is Queen Bee. And when Queen Bee wants to be reliable to Ladybug or fears to disappoint her idol, ultimately, Chloé wants to not screw her chances to be Queen Bee again. 

Thus, yes, Queen Bee does her part when battling Akumas, but does Chloé actually grow as a person after Malediktator events? Did Chloé work on herself? Does she continue reflecting on her actions? Does Chloé even sometimes try to help her classmates with their normal problems or is she resting on her laurels? How does she treat others in general? Did Chloé truly become kinder or humbler or did she instead got the big head and still is rude to them? Does she views herself as a normal person or as a superior being? If you are unsure about any of the answers, just rewatch Startrain.

Chloé just stops improving because she took her Miraculous for granted. She is an hero recognized by Paris and therefore deserve the hero treatment and doesn’t need to continue to work on herself. 

Sure, Chloé isn’t provoking as much akumatization as in S1 and S2, but she didn’t become better either by receiving a Miraculous. In fact, she is even more condescending. She is Queen Bee, she is a superhero thus she is better than you, peasants!

Chloé : In this world, there are those who work and those who shine. Forever there would be this division between us, Dupain-Cheng.

And this mentality contributed to Chloé’s sense of entitlement to the Bee Miraculous, calling it hers and expecting to have it back as if it was her rightful right. Except Miraculouses belong to no one as illustrated by the Turtle Miraculous who gets shared between Master Fu and Nino. And initially, LB wanted to hand over the Bee Miraculous to Alya because LB needed help and Alya had already been trusted with another Miraculous before. 

Anyway, during Heroes Day, it was part of Scarlet Moth’s plan to use the Bourgeois against Queen Bee. To destabilize her and it worked. And if he could do it once, he could attempt something again.

And this is what motivated Ladybug to be careful and ideally not give back a Miraculous to anyone who’s secret identity is known by Hawkmoth. And for the record, yes, Chloé is the first one truly affected by that rule, but she isn’t the only one through S3.

This decision is made by LB with CN’s approval because they wanted to protect Chloé and her loved ones from HM. And unbestknown to them, their doubts were found as Chloé was being watched over by HM and Mayura.

So it wasn’t because Queen Bee was doing a poor job, nor because Chloé's attitude was getting worse. This was done to protect her. Except they couldn’t protect Chloé from herself. 

Yes, Ladybug did a mistake which is to not inform Chloé of this decision earlier. As a result, in Miraculer, Chloé felt ignored. Rena Rouge and Carapace were often called to help while Chloé was standing there waiting next to her bee signal. 

But even if LB had told Chloé sooner, chances are the result would have been mostly the same. Because Chloé has an inaptitude to let go of things she desires.

After learning the truth, Chloé was clearly not satisfied by this decision. And while Chloé cooperates and hands back the Bee Miraculous, she is in denial.

Chloé : I understand, but I’m sure you will need me again, Ladybug. I know that I will be Queen Bee again someday. I’ll always be Queen Bee.

What allowed Chloé to not be akumatized during Miraculer was precisely because she still had faith in Ladybug then, despite being mad at her. She is still convinced LB would come ask for Queen Bee’s help again. But after that revelation, once Ladybug has left, Chloé tears apart the picture she had hold on to the entire episode. 

By S3 finale, we see Chloé never accepted the reality of ever be Queen Bee again. And since the finale theme revolved about loss, well, it was time for her to be confronted to it.

We all agree that Hawkmoth exploited the situation during Heart Hunter. He planned the Akumatization of André and Audrey Bourgeois. Nathalie was on place to sabotage of the Bee Signal. And finally, they planned to find the Guardian to get the Miracle Box and offer the Bee Miraculous to have Chloé on their side. 

Everything was there to manipulate Chloé, play with her emotions in order to turn her against Ladybug. But keep in mind that during that scene where HM is meeting Chloé, everything he says rings true to Chloé because this is what she internally feels. What he did was only amplifying the feelings Chloé already has since Miraculer and even a bit before that.

Chloé felt ignored, rejected, not allowed to be a superhero, to be a Queen. When Chloé answers Ladybug has done nothing for her, we know it’s not true. Ladybug gave her a second chance. We also know Ladybug is avoiding to give Chloé a Miraculous because she is trying to protect her and her loved ones from HM. Chloé knows that since the end of Miraculers events, however when her loved ones are indeed in danger during Heart Hunter, Chloé expected this would be THE occasion to be Queen Bee again and prove Ladybug wrong by helping Ladybug save her parents. 

Now, Ladybug has been distracted and didn’t think of things clearly and yes, there is a chance that on other circumstances she might have picked the Bee Miraculous to give it to Chloé, but there is also the fact Chloé kept repeating the same mistake. 

We have seen through S3 Chloé is constantly building her expectations up, only to set herself for disappointement. And instead of realizing that about herself, especially after Miraculer, she continues doing that and gets angry and put the blame on others. The only one making Chloé wait is Chloé herself. All the other temporary Holders have other things to occupy themselves and they do what they can as civilians, not expecting LB to come and give them a Miraculous. 

But Chloé’s entitlement to the Bee Miraculous clouds her judgment there and now, HM is there is offering Chloé something Ladybug has denied to give her again.

So, Chloé prefered being Queen Bee over doing the right thing. She had the chance to double cross HM, but she didn’t because of how hurt and furious she was at Ladybug. And even after being deakumatized, that angers and feeling of betrayal persist.

And this is where Chloé’s action matters the most here. Chloé not only tries to be reakumatized by choice again, she blantantly explains she isn’t on Ladybug’s side anymore, doesn’t care if HM who terrorizes Paris is the ennemy, that she will keep the Miracle Box for herself. Chloé also rudly orders the Kwamis around without knowing how it works. She even tries to run away with the new Miracle Box and finally, when everything is falling appart and doesn’t go her own way, Chloé throws at tantrum at Ladybug, insulting her and the other temporary Holders and affirm she will leave with the Bee Miraculous to New York.

Even HM who laughs at this at first, commenting he doesn’t need to do anything, that Chloé is one of the bad guys, eventually is disappointed before leaving her behind.

Ladybug? She tries to reason with Chloé, giving her another chance to fix her mistake like at the end of Queen Wasp. When Chloé is putting all the remaining Miraculous of the Box on her, LB asks to stop because she knows how dangerous it is to combine their powers and still doesn’t want Chloé to get hurt. It’s only after Chloé tries to run off with the new Miracle Box that Ladybug stops her. And when Chloé is done talking, LB has no choice to stop this and take back herself the Bee Miraculous from her, even apologizing for doing this.

Ladybug has been very patient. She knows Chloé. She knows she is hurt and is hurting other because that’s how she copes, but Ladybug cannot let Chloé keep that Miraculous. Heck, she even feel sorry for Chloé when she finally leaves. 

Is that truly the face someone who is satisfied with this result? This wasn’t what Ladybug had hoped for Chloé either.

If, through S3, it was no one’s fault for the Bee Miraculous to not be given to Chloé, her being destituted of the Bee Miraculous at the end of S3 was the consequences of Chloé’s own actions and her refusal to change. And all of this could have been prevented if Chloé didn’t become entitled to the Bee Miraculous, if Chloé had found another purpose AS A CIVILIAN rather than to depend on the prestige of her Queen Bee persona

This isn’t the end though. It only means Chloé has more work to do about herself. And that giving Chloé a Miraculous isn’t the solution to improve her.

Season 3 finale and my Sets

I’m still sick and I spent most of today in bed, but I was able to take the pictures for Chat Blanc previews in game, in the next days I just have to make the previews and write the info. I also made a recap of my miraculous sets, and realized that this year the number of set I made increased considerably (I know some of them were easier to make but still).

Jade Turtle: I think I miss part of his back design, and knowing the situation I doubt we’re going to see him again unless we have flashbacks of some kind *winking with both eyes at Bunnix*. I’m not particularly fond of it despite is relatively simple, but I feel like I need to make his set as a “tribute” (like, I can’t finish my miraculous project and not make him). We’ll see after I make Carapace.

Ryuko: still convinced to make her after Viperion and Kagami. I need to make some swatches for the suit since the used element color disappear (and there are different combinations), but I won’t make the glowing versions (each glowing part in the suit needs to be a separate CAS item and I don’t want to end up with 20 versions of her suit). I don’t know if I’ll make the sword both on her back and in her hand. I had to make HM’s cane on his hand because it wasn’t placed anywere (and probably need to do the same for Mayura too), but for the other heroes I don’t know. LB and QB needs to have their weapons on them for obvious reasons, Chat’s baton has different measures, that’s why I didn’t make a hand version. For Carapace and Rena I have the same problem of Ryuko and Viperion. I’ll probably just make the body attached version and if someone wants to use them for posing (personal use) I can explain how to edit them.

It’s now confirmed that the ring around the top is black, while I made mine yellow as in her transformation/power sequences. Sorry.

Queen Wasp/Miracle Queen: I’ve checked and they are basically the same. So I’ll make her be setA03. The hair will be overrided by the mask as Chat Blanc, the yellow skin will be in blush category (as him too), the yellow metal parts of her cuffs, shoulders and crown will be in bracelet (one for shoulders and one for wrists) and glass categories. The black semitransparent parts will be or in glass (along with the crown with different swatches) or the one of the crown in glasses and the others in Brow ring right (piercing category, same as Waitress Marinette lace, with different swatches if you want to use just one of the two) due to the alpha parts. I also want to add the yellow contacts in her set (for her minion), but they probably be in another piercing category because otherwise they won’t work with hero masks (I’ll use this category for future contacts too like the ones needed for Zombizou if I ever make her). As Chat Blanc, you’ll only need QB’s hair to make this set work.

Finally some good references of these three. I can say almost for sure that after Ryuko, I’ll make Kim/his hero form/Max/Pegasus. I would like to make Bunnix before them but I need to understand if she’s going to wear her miraculous at a young age too, hopefully s4 will answer this.

Mayura: I have ZERO idea how to make her set maxis match. I mean, the transparent part of the hat will be in the same place as Waitress Mari’s lace. But the fur?????? And the blue skin that needs to cover eyebrows but still work with skin details?????? And I need to do makeup too because she decided to go all glam for her tranformation???????? HELP. To be fair her eyebrows are slightly paler, but I can’t make them as facepaint because I won’t be sure they are going to cover EA ones if the shape is different (and I don’t want her to go shaved eyebrows style in her normal outfit). Also, let’s not talk about how f much her skirt is going to clip with her legs. I also need to make her mask and the fusion of her with HM mask in her set. It’s going to be a disaster.

Finally some good reference of these two too. Even if LB’s hair are slightly off (different studio?), I’ll make her the hot-pink fluorescent blue version we knew because I like it too much.

Dragon Bug and Snake Noir: my hands are shaking with the need of making them. But It’s Too Soon Now. It might be just me, but I haven’t seen the sword change substance like we saw in the leak? And Snake Noir ring is a little glossier than Chat’s one, but I just think they updated the new models in s2 and s3 (iirc s1 had a lower budjet), because they are really way more detailed and the details are just better (I won’t update mine since the difference in game would be so small). Also, Snake Noir has TONS of seams decorations, I don’t know if I can catch them all and they’ll probably be just texture and normal map like I did for Chat (I also hope I can reuse part of Viperion’s suit for him and Aspik).

As you can see, the inactive miraculouses on Chloé are gold, I wonder why her Bee pin is silver instead. Also the shapes are different than Marinette’s one.
