So, I ran the Raidou prequal novel through a machine translator, and while it was pretty garbled, I was able to make out some interesting things. Apparently, the main antagonist is the ghost of Saiga Magoichi who worked for the Yatagarasu when alive and participated in the Honnoji incident against Nobunaga on their orders. Also, one of Raidou’s demons is Aterui, who’s described as a beast. Make of that whatever you will.
That's a much more explicit connection than I would have imagined! Whether it was a conscious influence or simply a connection drawn after the fact to service the plot of the novel, the resemblance was at least taken into account.
Also, there was a proper fan-translation of the novel released some years back, but it was hosted on LiveJournal. So, bit of a disaster to access at the moment. Probably still floating around somewhere.
Update: Looks like only the first part of the novel was translated, so I guess a garbled machine translation is your best bet at the moment.

Saikazaki Signal Tower aka "Hawk's Nest" In Wakayama- Japan. During the Sengoku period, Saikazaki was known as the headquarters of the Saiga Ikki, led by Suzuki Magoichi, better known as Saiga Magoichi. Lying on the bank of the Kii Channel, an important trade route, it is possible to see Tomogashima, Awaji Island, and Shikoku from the Saikazaki Lighthouse resting on the top of a bluff known as the "Hawk's Nest."

Continuing with my Onimusha 2 writeups, this post is gonna be about one of the side characters of the game, Magoichi Saiga.
Magoichi is one of the characters you can befriend in Onimusha 2, and doing so will change your path in the game. I didn’t wanna put the time into going through every character’s path, so since I managed to complete his arc I’ll use Magoichi as an example for how the game can diverge via the Friendship system.
(Magoichi “I Keep That MF Thang on Me” Saiga)
At the start of the game, Jubei runs into two of the four potential buddies in the game, Ekei Ankokuji and Magoichi Saiga.
This stays relatively the same on every run for the most part; the only minor variance would be whether Ekei or Magoichi decide to help you fight in the mine while the other is twiddling their thumbs overhead. Magoichi and Ekei seem to know a great deal about each other and their respective pasts are revealed to Jubei in bits and pieces.
After leaving Imasho Town for Yagyu village, you don’t really get to see any more of Magoichi’s parts unless you won his favor with gift giving before facing Jujudormah (she’ll be featured in another post).
This is where Magoichi really starts to open up. At high enough Friendship, he’ll use his cannon to destroy the nest of Merpeople that plague Jubei in Fog Valley and when you see him again at Gifu Castle he’ll give you his Tri-Barrel Rifle, his signature weapon. Up until now, Magoichi comes off as the shadiest member of your group of friends with Ekei and Tokishiro casting doubt over his allegiances towards Jubei, but after Jubei saves his life he reveals that he was an orphan raised by the Saiga village as one of their own. He owes them his life and vows to protect them from Nobunaga so they don’t share the same fate as Jubei’s village.
The highlight for Magoichi’s run is when Jubei takes a bullet for him that turns him to stone. The game then switches control over to Magoichi who decides to find the powder that can reverse the petrification effects and restore Jubei.
Something interesting to note is that Magoichi’s gameplay feels the most like traditional Resident Evil combat since it’s all firearms based, albeit it’s much easier to fight with Magoichi than with any of the characters from RE since he has infinite ammo and can eventually replace his rifle with a flamethrower (that also has infinite ammo and will fucking melt everyone). He even has his own issen moves with his gunplay.
Magoichi has one other notable setpiece in the game where he asks you if a sword or gun is better and if you choose sword, he challenges you to kill more enemies than he does. If you beat him he gives you another item (I’m linking to it instead of posting it because I hit the video limit for this post).
The last thing Magoichi does for Jubei is show him his newest weapon, the Kuni Kuzushi.
It’s the best scene in the entire game.
When I first played Onimusha 2 years back, I barely made any progress with Magoichi and he pretty much disappeared by the second act of the game. I was better friends with Kotaro who also has his own setpieces, but nothing in Kotaro’s gameplay can match with the big dick energy Magoichi exudes whenever he pulls the trigger.

This is super late, but that temple that Nobunaga burned to the ground? The monks from it had been harassing his army with attacks and raids for weeks without reprisal because they were thought as sacred. Nobunaga eventually went fuck it, if they're going to act like combatants then I'll treat them as such. It was hardly a mustache twirling "kill monks for no reason" thing. He spat on a lot of tradition in the name of progress, and Japan loves its tradition which is why he gets such a bad rap.
Thanks for the info. Most of our knowledge about feudal Japan comes from Samurai Warriors, so we welcome anyone who actually knows things to the conversation.
That said, I’m pretty sure there was a level in Samurai Warriors 1 where you help a group of monks raid the Oda as Magoichi Saiga. But a quick google search tells me the names don’t quite match up, so that might be a seperate incident.
