I watched Roman’s documentary. I would have given my highlights but there were too many to count.
I just want to thank Matt Anoa’i for being his little brother’s backbone. You can tell that Joe worshiped the ground his big brother walked on and was heavily influenced by him.
His words of advice when he was alive convinced Joe to stand his ground and force the character change that gave rise to the Tribal Chief.
May he keep resting in peace.

The Major Players vs The Bloodline
Tumblr media
To accurately gauge where this actually started, we’d probably have to go back to the Vegas show all the way back in June, where Roman Reigns and Matt Cardona went one on one with one another for the first time ever, Roman pulling out the victory there. From there, the loss seemed to eat away at Cardona for months, even after eliminating Roman from the Clusterfuck. It seemed Roman was going to let that slide, until a recent string of attacks, both verbal and physical by Cardona, against Roman and the rest of his family. Now? Now, Cardona, and by extension of the Major Players, could be forced to pay a serious price…
The Major Players looked as if they were having a tough time deciding who would start this match, until, at the insistence of Matt Cardona, he told Philly Collins to get in the ring and start. Marino looked as if he actually wanted to argue that, but Philly got into the ring, agreeing to start against Jey Uso.
The referee calls for the bell, and Philly turns around, only to get dropped by a HUGE Superkick from Uso immediately! Philly Collins just got his head kicked into the second row! Jey Uso quickly picks up Philly, and forces him against the ropes, before laying into the Easy Lover with chop after stiff chop, quickly turning Philly Collins’ chest a shade of bright red! Marino tries to get into the ring to help his tag partner, but Jey Uso’s attention is quickly pulled away to him, as Jey Uso starts lighting up Marino Tenaglia with a couple of right hands! The Anoa’i Family have always been known as some of the hardest strikers in pro wrestling, something PME are learning first hand, very quickly here!
While Jey has his back turned, Matt Cardona manages to make a tag to Philly Collins and get himself into the ring, measuring Jey Uso from behind, before trying to surprise Jey, but all he does for himself is run right into a Superkick! Matt nearly gets his teeth kicked down his throat, as he drops to the mat, and Jey Uso makes the tag to Roman, who had his hand outstretched, asking for it. Cardona is doing his best to shake off the cobwebs from that kick, and he doesn’t realize that Roman is taking his time, getting into the ring, taking a slow walk around Matt Cardona’s body as he does. Roman eventually stands before Matt, and puts his hands on his knees, looking down at Cardona, wordlessly, but with so much behind those intense eyes. Roman watches as Cardona starts to rise back to his feet, before Roman grabs Matt by the hair, dragging him the rest of the way up, and then dropping Matt right back down with a stiff uppercut, right to the jaw! That one felt personal, and it probably was! Roman drags Matt back to his feet, before kneeing Cardona right in the gut, before shoving him into the corner of The Bloodline. Apparently having made his point early with that uppercut, Roman tags out to Solo, who gets into the ring and grabs Cardona, lifting him up, and planting him with a side slam! Solo drives Cardona into the mat, and then gets up, mean mugging the Major Players corner, and telling Steph, yelling for Matt to get up, to shut her mouth. Solo grabs Matt and goes to send him off the ropes, but Matt turns it around on him, and as Solo goes to rebound, Philly Collins knees him in the back from the apron! Solo turns around, seemingly unaffected by that, and DECKS Philly, knocking him off the apron, before turning and catching Marino with a straight right hand as well, knocking him down too!
Solo tries to take a swing at Steph too, determined to apparently fight all of the Major Players by himself tonight, but Steph ducks it and shoves Solo back, spinning him around in the process, as Cardona leaps up and catches Solo with a Game Changer, Cardona’s version of a codebreaker, double knees right to Solo Sikoa’s face! Solo gets taken off his feet, and Cardona drags him over to the Major Players corner, before trapping Solo in a kneebar, and reaching up, tagging in Steph De Lander. Steph, Solo’s opponent for his short lived MPW debut match, quickly gets into the ring and mounts Solo, before nailing him with a couple of stiff forearm shots right to the head as Cardona continues to control Solo’s leg! Solo can’t really defend himself, and basically eats the shots to the head, which are clearly taking their toll. On a roster that features many a big lady from Abigail to Rhea Ripley and some others, Steph De Lander is one of our largest & strongest female roster members here in MPW, and shots like that from here will put your lights out quickly. Steph gets back up, and with one more stomp to Solo’s gut, quickly tags in Marino, who also mounts Solo, peppering him with right hands, before picking him up into a front facelock, and tagging in Philly. Marino exposes Solo’s rib rage to Philly as Philly winds up and delivers a haymaker to Solo’s ribs, dropping Solo right down to his knees, as Marino lets him go. Philly looks over at the Bloodline corner, and, quite boldly, grabs at his male parts and thrusts his hips at his opponents, telling them what they can suck, before turning his attention back to Solo.
Philly traps Solo against the ropes and uses the ropes to choke Solo, pressing his knee down on the back of Sikoa’s head, before pulling Solo away at the request of referee Jake Clemons 5 count. Philly lifts Solo up, before driving him into the Major Players corner, allowing Matt Cardona to tag himself in, as Philly thrusts his shoulder into Solo’s gut one more time. Quick tags were keeping all of the Major Players fresh in this one, as as Cardona gets into the ring, Steph actually holds Solo’s arms, as Cardona delivers a brutal looking forearm right to Solo’s face! Cardona then pulls Solo out of the corner and right into a short arm clothesline, dropping Solo to the mat once again! Despite the early moments of this match, the Major Players have turned this into their kind of match, using misdirection and the numbers game to their advantage to isolate someone who many people think to be the most physically dominant member of The Bloodline after Roman. Wearing down Solo would put Roman & the Usos at a massive disadvantage in this one if the Major Players can continue to do this, especially when this match breaks down, like it almost inevitably will.
Cardona makes a show of ripping off his shirt, before Cardona drops down and uses the fabric to choke Solo! Solo struggles to get free, but there’s technically no rules in a contest like this, so Clemons is letting it go! One thing Clemons apparently isn’t standing for is more people in the ring, because Jimmy Uso getting into the ring and kicking Cardona in the back to break the choke is met with Clemons turning around and telling Jimmy he isn’t the legal man. Jimmy looks furious as he reminds Clemons that Cardona was just choking Solo, but we all have our priorities I suppose. Cardona tags Philly Collins again, before wrapping up Solo’s legs so he can’t move, and allowing Philly Collins to come in and drop an elbow on the small of Solo’s back! At least Clemons is consistent as he tells Cardona to vacate the ring, Clemons doing his best to retain a modicum of control in this one before it inevitably breaks down. Philly Collins traps Solo in a head lock, and wrenches down on it, as the crowd tries to get Solo back in it. Solo starts to fight back up to his feet, starting to land a couple of stiff shots to Philly Collins, but Philly instead wrenches on the front facelock and calls for Marino, as Marino leaps off the top rope, catching Solo in the back with a Double Stomp, as Philly drops Solo with a DDT! Philly Collins with the cover as Marino rolls back out of the ring!
1….2… Kickout!
Solo out at two! Philly gets up and throws Solo into the corner, before once again making the tag to Matt Cardona, as Cardona stalks Solo, now seated in the corner. Cardona takes the time to mock our fans, giving a very sarcastic and half hearted callback to the days they used to cheer him.
“Woo! Woo! Woo!”
Cardona charges at Solo, looking for a Broski Boot, but Solo manages to pop back up to his feet, and instead send Matt Cardona over the top rope and to the outside!
Solo stumbles out of the corner, and Steph tries to get in the ring to attack, but Solo ducks the clothesline, and drops Steph with a thrust kick! Philly Collins is the next to try and stop him, but Solo grabs Philly and plants him with a Spinning Solo! Solo gets back up to his feet to continue his rampage, only to get caught by Marino, who leaps up and nails Solo with a Cyclone Kick! Solo doesn’t go down, but he might be out on his feet as he looks a little woozy, and Marino looks to follow it up by hitting the ropes, but on the rebound, Solo pops Marino up into the air, and drives him down into the mat with a MASSIVE Samoan Drop! Solo just took out the Major Players BY HIMSELF!
Solo drops down, clearly beaten down by the amount of abuse he’d taken so far, as he tries desperately to crawl to his corner and get a tag. Roman is there, reaching out his hand for a tag, but suddenly, before Solo can tag him, Matt Cardona yanks Roman off the apron! Roman lands on his feet, and now Roman and Matt are trading blows on the outside, as Steph runs to help him, only to get met by Jimmy Uso, as those two begin trading right hands on the outside. Jey Uso finds Philly Collins going for a chair, and cuts him off with a stiff forearm, as this match has completely broken down into a brawl at this point! The only two men not participating is Solo & Marino, both men trying desperately to make it back to their feet and get in the fight themselves!
Solo charges Marino, and nearly takes his head off with a HUGE running Savate kick! Marino is staring up at the lights with a far away look in his eyes as Solo finally tags out, bringing in Jimmy Uso. Right behind him is Jey, the right hand man, and Jey launches the first kick, nailing Marino right on the jaw with a precise Superkick. Marino rocks to the left, and into a Superkick from Jimmy! He drops to his knees, and both Usos nail him with in-stereo Superkicks!
"Uce, it's time we finish this fool!" Jey shouts as Jimmy lifts Marino up. Jimmy pops Marino up into Jey's arms, planting him with the 1-D! One and Done, Jey stands guard as Jimmy drops into the cover!
1… 2… Broken up!
Cardona snuck in behind Jey to save the matchup, kicking Jimmy right in the head, and started beating down Jey. Cardona stands up as Roman slides into the ring behind him, and SLAMS his fist into Cardona's jaw, practically knocking him out cold with a Superman Punch! Roman brushes his hair back as he talks down to Cardona, reminding him who brought this fight to the Major Players. He could've let this rest, but Matt had to push the issue, and now he's getting his ass whooped by the Tribal Chief.
That is, until Steph throws herself at Roman, catching him with a forearm. The Head of the Table stumbles, nostrils flaring and jaw set tight as he stares De Lander down. "This isn't gonna go down the way you think it is. So run along, little girl, and get the hell out of my yard." and Steph SLAPS the taste out of Roman's mouth! Steph SLAPS the Tribal Chief! "Acknowledge that, BITCH!" Steph shouts before unleashing on Roman, pushing him back to the ropes with a series of heated forearms. Once he's on the ropes, De Lander whips him off, but Roman reverses, and has Steph rebounding into a throat thrust! Puncturing her throat, Steph grabs it and coughs, losing her footing, before getting knocked into the corner by a Savate kick from Jimmy Uso! Steph finds herself in her corner, and gets crushed by a body splash from Jey! She slides down, and here comes Solo, SQUASHING her head with a HUGE hip attack!
Solo and Jey lift what remains of Steph out of the corner, holding her up. Jimmy starts to climb to the top rope as Roman looks out at the crowd, cups his mouth, and in unison with Seattle, yells out a room shaking, "AWOOOOOOOGAAAAAA!" Jey and Solo lift De Lander onto Roman's shoulders, and plant her with a HUGE triple Powerbomb! As Roman moves out of the way, Jimmy comes off the top rope, and flattens Steph with an USO Splash! This one's over!
1… 2… BROKEN UP!
PME breaks it up, saving the match for the Major Players! With Cardona nowhere in sight, and Steph, obviously, nowhere close to recovering, the numbers are not in their favor, but PME still tries to take out The Usos. In return, they get two Superkicks to the face, knocking them right back down to the floor. The Usos line PME up before jumping over the top rope, taking them both out with a double Uso Crazy Splash!
Inside the ring, Solo has Steph by the shoulder, with his thumb pointing out. He leans his head back and lets out a battle cry as Roman hits the ropes, looking for their Samoan Spike / Spear combo to finish this - when Cardona nails Roman with a chair! Roman drops to his knees! Solo can only take a step toward before Steph drops to hers, and nails Solo right in the family jewels! De Lander goes for the bean bag, and somehow, the Major Players might actually steal this! The Usos risked themselves to take out PME, Solo's down, and Cardona has Roman in his cross hairs!
As Roman gets to his feet, Cardona charges…. And hits Radio Silence on the chair! Holy shit! Is it possible?! Did they actually steal this?!?!
1…. 2…. KICKOUT!!!
NOPE, Roman out at two and a half!
Cardona is PISSED. He sits back, hands over his head, staring at the referee in a mixture of shock and rage. That should've been three. They had the perfect plan, but Roman found a way to kick out. Cardona jumps to his feet, getting in the referee's face, arguing with poor Remsburg. Steph comes over to berate the poor man as well, but they should keep their eyes on the prize…
Steph shrieks as she's spun around, and dropped by a pair of Superkicks from The Usos! Cardona charges them, but The Usos step out of the way, and Roman CRUSHES Matt Cardona with a MASSIVE Spear! Roman folds him up!
1… 2… 3!
"Here are your winners, The Bloodline!"
This one may have been predictable, as there are few factions as dominant as The Bloodline, but the Major Players put up one hell of a fight. Roman fists bumps his cousins before getting a microphone from ringside.
"SEATTLE." Roman's voice demands attention, and the crowd is more than happy to give it to him.
"ACKNOWLEDGE ME!"
Roman drops the microphone as The Bloodline throws up the 1s to a huge reaction from our Seattle crowd.
As the Bloodline leave, Steph tries to help Matt to his feet. PME slide into the ring to help, but as Philly and Marino try to check on Matt, Matt suddenly shoves Marino down to the mat?!
“This is your fault!” Matt shouts, looking down at Marnio, Philly tries to get in between the two of them as Steph takes a step back, Philly trying to get Matt to cool down, and look out for his best friend. “No, both of you, both of you LOSERS, are the reason we lost tonight! Where the hell were you?! Where the hell were either of you?! You two wouldn’t be anything without me, I brought you here, and this is the thanks I get?!”
Marino gets back to his feet, and pushes Philly out of the way, going to get in Matt’s face, when Matt shoves Marino again. Marino takes a step back, as Matt continues to shout in his face: “What’re you gonna do?! What’re you gonna do about it?!” Matt gets his answer… - when Marino pops Cardona with a Superkick?! Philly flips Steph the bird as PME exit the ring, what the hell just happened?!

Major League Wrestling “SuperFight” and “Fusion” TV Taping Report February 2nd in Philadelphia, PA
MLW came to the 2300 Arena tonight for the first time since their 2017 relaunch that has led to running events across the country, a weekly TV show, and a fruitful relationship with their cable home beIN Sports that has led to live shows airing on nights like this. They ended up drawing a large crowd, and I was impressed by the clean, slick-looking ring, the entrance setup, and the different kind of pre-show playlist (Tyler the Creator, Ghostface Killah, etc.). Before matches got underway, ring announcer Timothy Barr (also of EVOLVE and WWN) and correspondent Kacey Lennox threw shirts out to the crowd. Rich Bocchini and Matt Striker handled commentary from ringside. Two matches were taped starting at 7:30 PM prior to SuperFight going live on TV.
1. Rich Swann beat Lance Anoa’i when Anoa’i missed a 450 splash and Swann rolled him up afterward. Swann very gradually played more of the heel here, and he just barely used the bottom rope for leverage for his pin. Anoa’i, who had a tribute for Roman Reigns on his shorts, impressed the crowd with his agility.
2. Alexander Hammerstone beat Ariel Dominguez with a sit-out side slam from a vertical suplex position. Hammerstone, a newcomer to MLW from Phoenix, AZ who has wrestled out west a lot, looked like a taller Tyler Durden and towered over Dominguez, who I believe is mainly used in positions like this. Hammerstone dominated him, from a massive release German suplex, to a delayed pump handle exploder suplex, to quickly killing Dominguez’s comeback with a forearm strike. Hammerstone truly has shoulders like boulders.
Tumblr media
After this came the live TV airing of SuperFight, with perhaps the three most heavily advertised matches on the card. Teddy Hart and Davey Boy Smith Jr. (with Brian Pillman Jr.) won the MLW World Tag Team Titles from Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix in a predictably crazy opener. Cool to see Smith come out with a bulldog, in addition to Hart with his cat. Despite some slight miscommunication and loose rules, the crowd was very much into this. Both teams came off as beloved, though the new Hart Foundation used plenty of dirty tactics: Pillman pulling the ref out during a pin count, Smith unmasking Pentagon, and Hart giving Fenix a low blow prior to the spectacular finish. Hart Foundation dripping in gold. Kotto Brazil and Ricky Martinez received a big spotlight for their grudge match, and I thought they worked pretty hard, but I didn’t think this match didn’t have the same level of star power to draw in the crowd more, and I thought the finish (Selina De La Renta spraying something in Brazil’s good eye) was fairly silly. Low Ki, De La Renta’s other client and the man “undefeated in MLW for 15 years” defending his MLW World Heavyweight Title against Tom Lawlor went by quicker than I anticipated, but I thought these two made the most of their time. Big fight feel, Low Ki punching through a door, and Lawlor getting the victory and the title via choke out. With a lot of his other MMA-to-pro wrestling contemporaries signed with WWE, Lawlor really seems to be making a name for himself outside of the corporate behemoth. Following these three bouts (matches 3-5), they put on several more matches for later editions of MLW Fusion.
Tumblr media
6. Mance Warner beat Jimmy Yuta with a lariat. I think Wheeler Yuta has been here, as Jimmy, since the relaunch, whereas Warner was making his much-promoted MLW debut, dressed up like Bunkhouse Buck. More of a showcase match for Warner, as he took the action to the floor and made it into a bit of a brawl. He pulled out his patented eye poke and delivered a running knee lift prior to the finish. Afterward, Kacey Lennox interviewed Warner on the stage, and he cut a promo into the camera that the crowd couldn’t hear.
7. Jacob Fatu & The Almighty Sheik beat two enhancement wrestlers after Fatu pinned one of them after a big moonsault. Fatu is another member of the Anoa’i family, new to MLW, and borrowing a lot of his look from Umaga. This Sheik would be the same Sheik who held the NWA World Heavyweight Title under auspicious means. These two were announced as representing a new unit called Contra, and they decimated their opponents, with Sheik using a spike during the match. They appeared to be a throwback to the likes of the the original Sheik, Bruiser Brody, and the like, as they just kept causing chaos after the match. The opponent who wasn’t pinned was the recipient of a fireball from Sheik, Fatu did a moonsault on the other guy again as he was being stretchered out of the ring, and then this poor guy was slammed on the floor, all while the timekeeper kept ringing the bell in his failed attempts to control the action.
- They aired the backstage confrontation between The Hart Foundation and Maxwell Jacob Friedman, that I understand aired during the live airing. Good reception from the crowd.
8. Myron Reed beat DJZ with a rollup reversal with a handful of tights. To be fair, DJZ had a hold of Reed’s tights on his initial rollup attempt, but Reed was subtly acting heel in the match. Very slick and athletic action from both of these guys.
9. Ace Romero beat Simon Gotch by disqualification. Gotch has changed up his hairstyle and did away with his old mustache, and he was also announced as representing Contra. Romero was more popular here, though I’m not sure how well the crowd received these two odd bodies. Gotcha and Romero both fought hard like it was a grudge match, leading to Romero bleeding from the nose, but it all ended with Jacob Fatu and Almighty Sheik coming back out to attack Romero. Sheik spiked Romero’s head, drawing even more blood, as Gotch took the mic and directed his two colleagues. He said the three of them are the new global merchants of violence, demanding the crowd to carve this moment in their flesh so as to remember it (no thanks, we have phones). Gotch promised that they would burn professional wrestling to the ground and remake it in their image. He proclaimed themselves Contra, and that the hostile takeover has begun.
- Barr announced that MLW would return to the 2300 Arena on June 1st. This led into a very brief intermission, during which Teddy Hart made himself available to fans.
10. Ace Austin beat Rich Swann after a backwards top rope splash. Solid action that won the crowd over, though I thought they dueling dropkicks and dueling kip ups were really silly, trying for the type of stuff Ricochet and Will Ospreay did to much greater effect. The finish was hampered by a really awkward three-count, as if the ref forgot this was the finish. Afterward, Rich Bocchini got into the ring to speak with Swann, who slapped the ref to the mat. Bocchini tried asking Swann about his change in attitude, but Swann just shoved him down and proceeded to jaw with fans at ringside.
11. Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr. beat Tommy Dreamer & The Sandman after Smith powerbombed Dreamer onto two chairs. Smith and Sandman were the respective mystery partners for the feuding Pillman and Dreamer. Pillman cut a promo before introducing Smith, saying he wasn’t going to bring out an old ECW junkie. He channeled his father’s first promo in ECW (which I happened to rematch recently), calling the crowd smart marks and saying he was exercising his constitutional rights to pick an appropriate partner, in the city where the Constitution was written. Good delivery from him despite not having as hoarse a voice. Sandman did his full entrance (a lot of MLW entrance music is actual songs with the lyrics removed), and for some reason Teddy Hart came through the crowd with his cat, walking right past me and walking around the front row of fans while still behind the barricade. Sandman acted like he hurt his hand from chopping Pillman, and I felt he really showed his age here, even more so than in his recent ROH appearances. Dreamer was more of the workhorse for his team, including taking a delayed vertical suplex from Smith. Sandman even complimented Smith’s strength. Sandman eventually started chasing Pillman around the ring as Pillman retrieved various plunder from under the ring, ending with him pulling the Blue Meanie out from under the ring; he ultimately just punched Pillman after being used as a shield from Sandman. After the finish, there was a standing ovation for Dreamer, partially encouraged by the announce team.
12. Gringo Loco beat Puma King after a Spanish Fly off the top turnbuckle. It sounded like Barr mixed up the order of his ring announcements for these two heavyset luchadors. I thought they worked quite well together and came off well, up until the finish when Puma King kept slipping off the top and had to get back up for it.
- Barr announced that Teddy Hart would defend the MLW World Middleweight Championship against Maxwell Jacob Friedman in the main event. Hart came off as the crowd favorite as Barr gauged who they predict would win.
13. Rey Horus beat Aerostar with a victory roll bomb off the top turnbuckle. I thought this had the slickest, cleanest wrestling out of any match on the card. Very strong stuff from both guys. Aerostar wrestled with lights on his mask and gear, which was different. Both luchadors showed respect to each other afterward, may they find solace outside of the Temple.
- Barr announced that tonight set a new box office record for MLW, and he thanked the crowd on behalf of the everyone.
14. Teddy Hart beat Maxwell Jacob Friedman to retain the MLW World Middleweight Title with a springboard twisting senton. MJF cut a promo before Hart came out, claiming that if you like ECW, you’re white trash. He called Hart a jailbird, claimed he never officially lost his title, and challenged Hart to come out on his own without Smith and Pillman. Hart did so, but he still came out with his cat, who he placed on the top turnbuckle during in-ring introductions. Much like in the tag title match earlier in the night, these two loved their piledrivers. MJF countered Hart’s big moves by grounding him with headlocks. The ref went down when MJF collided with him (barely, from the looks of it) after Hart had hit him with a Canadian Destroyer. With the ref down, MLF attempted to use a chair, but Hart kicked him in the groin and used the chair himself. He then gave MJF an electric chair lung blower prior to the finish. Good main event with good character work that ended the night on a high note.
By all accounts, this was a pretty successful excursion to Philadelphia, especially given the purported business and the return date. For a company that bills itself as Major League and has such slick production, there were lots of moments in matches that felt off or awkward, including two botched finishes. They ultimately shouldn’t matter as much if they don’t repeat too often, and they likely don’t leave that big an impression on the majority of the live crowd and television audience. The title changes during the live airing say a lot about who the top stars are, and possibly what the future may hold for Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix. This card still made a good impression on me that will keep me focused on Fusion and the return date in June.

Even by Roman Reigns’ standards, the last two weeks have been almost unbearably difficult. Not only did the former WWE Champion suffer a brutal attack at the hands of Braun Strowman, he suffered the loss of his brother, Matt “Rosey” Anoa’i. Despite this, however, Reigns will still compete against Strowman at WWE Payback this Sunday, and he spoke with WWE.com to discuss the well-wishes he’s received, how his family is holding up and whether he thinks he’s up to facing The Monster Among Men this Sunday at all. WWE.COM: It’s been a tough two weeks for you personally and professionally. On the personal side, WWE.com sends its condolences to your family. How are you doing and how is everyone else doing? ROMAN REIGNS: Right now, it’s one of those situations where it’s a lot of mixed feelings. When you live in a big family, it’s always great to be able to come together, but to have to come together to send off a brother — and not only was he my brother, but in our family, even when you’re cousins, we’re all so close that we feel like brothers. That’s the type of connection we have in our family. It was an extremely sad weekend, and it’s still really tough. Everybody’s grieving. But to see our family come together and have a hundred-plus family and friends come together to celebrate my brother’s life really meant a lot. It just continually picks up our family and keeps us moving on. WWE.COM: Obviously, as you just stated, you have your family around you. Can you talk about some of the support you’ve received from the WWE Universe and other Superstars during this time? REIGNS: It’s crazy because it almost felt like Christmas times three. I don’t think I’ve ever received so many text messages from family and friends, especially within the company. So many guys in our locker room have reached out to me and sent their condolences and told me if there’s anything I need, don’t hesitate. I truly believe that. And talking to some of my family, that’s not just a saying. That’s real life. They want to do anything they can, whether it’s sending flowers, checking on me to try and talk, try and get down here to help out with any different thing we have to do with the services of a funeral. It’s really nice to be able to hear from all them. And, of course, through your social media, and Twitter is my main source of that, I’ve been overwhelmed with so many prayers and so many thoughts out there by my fans in the WWE Universe. Whether you’re a Roman Reigns supporter or a critic, everybody seems to understand the magnitude of the situation, and when it comes down to it, it’s a part of life but I think everybody gets it. Everybody’s been very sweet and really come to try and help me through this hard time. It really has helped. WWE.COM: Well, once again, we’d like to reiterate our sentiment. We wish your family the best during this hard time. REIGNS: Thank you. I just want to thank everybody who’s reached out. All my fans, everybody has been so supportive. This is a tough time but like everything in life we can learn from it and get better from it. My only hope now is that I can continue to represent my family and represent my brother and continue to push our legacy. He was my number one fan. He never missed a match, he never missed anything I did in the ring, he always had great advice for me and always reached out to talk. Payback and 2017 and any chance I get to go in that ring I’m representing him. WWE.COM: Speaking of which, last time we saw you on Monday Night Raw was the incident at the hands of Braun Strowman with the ambulance. How are you feeling as you recuperate from that attack? REIGNS: Physically, I’m as beat up as I am emotionally. This has been two of the roughest weeks of my professional career and life. I’ve never experienced a loss this close since it’s my only blood brother, but I’ve also never experienced a beatdown like Braun Strowman gave me. It’s unfortunate, because whatever point he’s trying to get across, he’s handling it the wrong way. And whether he thinks he’s a monster or not, I’m the top dog, I’m the big dog in this yard. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I already took out the greatest legend of all time. If anybody should be worried, it should be Braun Strowman. He’s got a whole storm that’s about to come his way. WWE.COM: It was obviously announced that you will still face Braun Strowman at WWE Payback. Are you up to the challenge to face him on Sunday? REIGNS: I’m beaten, I’m bruised, I’m hurt inside, but it comes down to the big fight. That’s what I do. When I step in that ring and my opponent steps in that ring and that bell goes ding, ding, I’m the one that holds it down. I’m the one that shows it’s my yard. I don’t have to jump people in the backstage, I don’t have to blindside people, I’ll face Braun eye-to-eye and put Braun down where he belongs because I’m the best in the WWE, I’m the best in the whole world, and at Payback this Sunday, I’ll show it.

5 years ago today, Roman/Joe’s brother, Matt Anoa’i aka Rosey, passed away.
Big brother called it even back then, to the tee.
I’m very sure he’s proud of his baby brother now.
Keep resting in peace.

Matt "Rosey" Anoa'i: A loving memory by "Hurricane" Helms [April 18th, 2017]
On Tuesday, it was revealed that former WWE World Tag Team Champion Matt “Rosey” Anoa’i had passed away. His former tag team partner, The Hurricane (aka Shane Helms) had posted some tremendous tributes to his former partner, including the following:
Tumblr media
Fans creating their own versions of my superhero costume was always one of my favorite things about being the Hurricane and it quickly became one of Rosey's favorite things too, hence the huge smile on his face here. 😁😁 Thanks to the fans who did this. You inspired us to be better and bigger than we were ever intended to be. And THANK YOU Matty for being such a great friend and partner. #Rosey
Tumblr media
Rosey once asked me if I thought we'd ever get a run as the champs. I told him, "If we get over enough they won't have a choice." We got rid of the S.H.I.T. costume, me and artist @mborkowskiart designed the updated version of Rosey's outfit, and then we busted our asses to make it happen. It's my favorite Championship win of my career and to have it happen with such a great human being as Matty makes it even more special. He never needed "Training" he was always a Hero. #Rosey
Tumblr media
Getting ready for another set of tapings for @impactwrestling today and my friend Matty is still heavy on my mind. And thinking about him reminds me of how much we both love this crazy ass business. Without wresting I never would have met Matty or his incredible family. Life is strange and sometimes the chaos and negativity can seem overwhelming but there is goodness there too. There is beauty and sunlight behind every dark cloud and even the dark clouds themselves have a beauty to them if you look hard enough. I sure hate that you had to leave us so early my friend but I'm so very thankful that I got to know you at all. We'll fly together again one day! #Rosey
It’s difficult to understand how it feels to begin a brotherhood on the road. You work so much with someone that you begin a chemistry, you start to trust each other, and before you know it, you love the person you’re working with. To lose them must be devastating, and Helms clearly illustrates that in his memories of Rosey. All my love to @shanehelmscom in this trying time.

So sad 😔
Yesterday I was so sad because Roman wasn't on Raw ^^' Today I'm more sad because I heard the terrible news about Matt Anoa'i (Rosey), Roman's brother, that passed away yesterday, at the age of 47 ... so young 😖 I'm so sorry for this 😔 My thoughts are with Roman, Usos and all Anoa'i Family.
I hope all haters respect this. This is not wrestling or entertainment, is real life and Roman is only a guy, Joe Anoa'i, who lost his big brother.
Rest In Peace Matt Anoa’i (Rosey)

Yo that really fucking sucks. Its no secret that I’m a huge fan of that whole family. Out of all those bigger Anoa’i/Fatu guys Rosey was by far the most impressive athletically, and that says a lot. There were points in his career where he was about the same size Yoko was when he got to the WWF, and at that size plus a couple inches in height he was hitting lionsaults, split legged moonsaults, and hurracarranas. It was a sight. And he was just straight up mad good. R.I.P. Matt Anoa’i
