Fanfic for my Hero of Kvatch, Kiarsa. This is her origin story ig. Written in first p.o.v.

It was early in the morning as we prepared. Ravaren, my twin Khiarna, and myself were planning a robbery on a noble. I paid attention to all the finer details my sister laid out. There was a stone bridge we were to be on, and just under was a road. Ravaren, my partner, was to jump down to the cart and throw anyone in our way out, and I was to jump down and take over the reins. I had never felt so anxious.

This time, stakes were much higher, as our trio planned to attack a noble. The only reason I ever agreed on such a stupid idea was in hopes that Ravaren and I would be able to combine our share so we could leave and never have to rob another soul again. I looked over the cliff side when I noticed someone familiar sat beside me.

"Kiarsa, you look unwell. Are you still bothered about the plan?" A soft voice had asked, long and thin fingers settled on my shoulder.

I turn my head and it was Ravaren. His ruby eyes always gave me a reason to smile. Yet at the moment I couldn't smile. My chest felt heavy as I spoke,"I'm fine Rava. After all, so long as we're together what can go wrong?"

He planted a kiss on my forehead and nodded. Then I smiled, the false reassurance I gave myself would work for then. I had such horrible and heart wretched feelings tug at the very threads of my soul. Ravaren's hand graced my cheek with the brush of his gentle thumb.

Oh how I wished I had known that would be one of the last times I saw him in twelve years. I would have made every moment with him just a little more touching. We cannot change the past though. So I am forced to live with the fact that the last time I saw him, we were still criminals with no money and then with no hope.

When we hopped on to that carriage with my sister, she turned us in for her own freedom. Understandable of course, but how it hurt was like a dagger to my chest. Before this carriage ride, we were freelance criminals. We stole and beat up a lot of people together. Ravaren and I tried to fight imperial guards

It was a short battle, Ravaren and I were easily defeated on the fact we weren't planning on fighting three guards. Khiarna looked down at me, getting on her knee she said to me,"Kiarsa, I'm sorry I had to do this. But I'm sick of living here in Cyrodiil. And with the extra coin, I'm going to where our home should have been."

I had to admit, I was confused on what she meant at first. Cyrodiil had always been our home. We were left here when we were rather young and thus we grew up here. It only became clear to me later that she meant Hammerfell, as I had been hit behind the head with a cold steel handguard.

We had been taken to Imperial City, where Ravaren and I separated. I was put in some pathetic cell for six years. For many years I would not know what happened to him. Everyday I was eating the same bread and cheese. I didn't move around much. Often I made little scratches on the wall for each day I awoke.

For almost six years I was in that cell before a guard led me to another. It was hard to walk around and as soon as I was let into that different cell, I fell on the ground and would not wake for days. And when I woke up I heard a high pitched mer's voice perk up in fake singing,"Wake up, pretty Redguard!"

I hadn't felt the strength to pull myself up, but right now, I was standing without my legs quivering beneath me as the dunmer across from my cell continued to taunt,"Ah, there you are. How do you like your cell, huh? Roomy enough for you? I can't even imagine what it's like for you. No more sunshine, no more open seas. Just a box and a dirty beam of light for the rest of your life. Bet you're glad it won't last long, huh?"

I tilted my head, I was unsure of what he meant by that. But then he cleared himself right up by saying,"Oh, didn't you know? No one ever leaves this prison alive! You're going to die in here, Redguard! Die!"

Where that dunmer saw me dying, I saw the emperor coming through my cell. It was very sudden, all of it. The emperor must have been dousing himself rich perfumes to distract everyone from his sickly appearance.

"You... I've seen you... Let me look at your face."

I'm almost sure that old man would have died from a heart attack if he took the wrong breath, but he continued anyways.

"You are the one from my dreams."

Alannah was always the one with big dreams and driving ambitions, probably because as a child her world felt so tiny and claustrophobic. Like she couldn't even concieve of a 'normal' answer to the question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" because anything mundane would just be a continuation of her awful current life and the thought of that was intolerable. How could she know then that her dream wasnt achievable? Not because of the circumstances of her birth or living situation, but because her body isn't capable of it. She's since become the Warrior of Light and a decorated white mage, but will that ever be enough for her or is it a consolation prize for what she really wanted?

Meanwhile Brina had her whole life planned out for her since birth, she'd be a lady accomplished in the arts and would eventually marry some lad from another well connected merchant family and secure her place in refined society. It was always about what her parents wanted, what society expected, her own wants and dreams were largely never even considered. I think if her family had lived she would have eventually run away and caused a scandal. She got her freedom far sooner than she could have ever hoped for, it just came with an incredibly high price.

Khiarna, I think, just dreamed of having an important role to play in her tribe. She wanted to be strong and respected and not restricted to traditional gender roles. Her training as a shaman started long before the death of her father, and she would have been content to have that as the focus of her life, but with the events set in motion by her sister's lies Khi got far more than she ever asked for.

OC Ask Game

24. which ocs have the most common sense? which have the least?

An interesting question, because having common sense doesn't mean they actually use it.

Like Alannah, who definitely knows better than to do half the risky stupid shit she does without warning but does it anyway. She gets away with it because nobody wants to be the one to try and tell the Warrior of Light how to live her life (and lol it wouldn't work).

Khiarna is basically forced into having common sense by virtue of being leader of her tribe. But I can assure you that, were it not for that weight of responsibility, she would have one brain cell and it would be in her fists.

Which leaves Brina as the only one of the bunch who considers the risks, consequences, and dangers of things and acts accordingly, like a rational human being. Probably because, unlike the other two, she doesn't have magical strength to compensate for how breakably human she is.

35. which ocs are terrified of spiders? which ocs squish the spider, and which ocs cup it and bring it outside?

Alannah is probably afraid of spiders not because they're creepy and crawly and she's run into far too many of them in dusty dark dungeons, but rather because of her allergies. She doesn't know for sure that she's allergic to spider bites, but given the already high number of things she is allergic to, it's better just to assume she is and protect herself accordingly.

Khi isn't particularly afraid of bugs unless they're the size of a buffalo, but she's definitely a spider smoosher.

Brina is totally unbothered by spiders and will find them a new home away from her things with no fuss.

50. which ocs speak fluent sarcasm?

Alannah ran out of patience with people expansions ago. The minute she's able to turn off the polite WoL persona she's all snark.

Khi can be quite sarcastic but her delivery is always deadpan.

This is going to sound weird but Brina expresses sarcasm more with her eyebrows than through direct speech, which is a result of her communicating through signing for a decade.

OC Ask Game

• Alannah likes the glitz and the glamour of formal parties. She loves dressing up and putting on makeup, it makes her feel ethereal and pretty in a way that she doesn't think of herself as on a day to day basis, so she cherishes that feeling. That said, she feels so out of place trying to socialize at these types of events. She comes from a poor farming background, so already she feels like these fancy rich people might as well be from the moon. But she's the Warrior Light, so there's pressure on her to make good impressions and connections, which she has a distinct lack of enthusiasm for. She just wants to dance and sparkle.

• Khiarna doesn't do formal, not even a little bit. She'll put on her tribe's ceremonial vestments when it's required of her, but a dress is out of the question. She hates them, can't move in them, would rather eat one than wear one. And her manners are atrocious when she's forced to attend an event she doesn't want to be at.

• Brina grew up high society wealthy, so balls and formal parties are old hat to her and a bit boring. She's comfortable in dresses and corsets, making small talk, being polite and charming. It's not her preferred environment, but she blends in effortlessly.

So. The follow button has led you to me, and now here you are with me on your dash. I assume you’re here for one to three reasons: the ffxiv content I post and reblog, my character(s), and/or the aesthetic content. Possibly also my riveting commentary on why ffxiv hasn’t added a sidebraid hairstyle yet. You’re all valid and welcome here.

Maybe you’re curious about me and my OCs, but you don’t want to go digging through my blog and the absolute mess of tags I’ve amassed over the years. I’m here to present a half-assed solution to your curiosity instead of fixing my tags in any sort of meaningful way.

WHO RUNS THIS BLOG?

I’m Alicia, I run this circus.

she/her pronouns, I’m cis.

I’m 31 years old at the time of writing this post.

This blog is 5 going on 6 years old.

If you see @alannahcorvaine that blog is also me but I don’t use it anymore, as it’s a sideblog and I moved over to this blog years ago.

I’ve been playing FFXIV since 2015.

I also play Elder Scrolls Online and World of Warcraft and have separate blogs for related OCs, content, and aesthetics.

I’m a cat person but I also love dogs.

I have a five year old black cat named Kilala who keeps me in line.

I’m not much of a people person, I’m made of anxiety and paperclips.

I yell into the void a lot, the void being my blog.

I don’t really RP outside of spectacularly outstanding circumstances these days, but character and world building are my jam.

Even if I don’t RP, I’m always down for character connections and relationships. I’m totally up for brainstorming and bouncing around headcanons.

Most of the time in game you’ll find me either standing around my house or out in the world taking screenshots. My mailing address is gpose.

I have a full roster of 8 characters on Balmung, but currently only 3 are active. You’ll probably see screenshots of the others too from time to time.

THE OCs

A L A N N A H C O R V A I N E

Your first assumption on seeing my blog name is that it’s probably the name of the titular OC that this blog focuses on. You would be correct. All of my OCs have their own blogs, however I am infinitely lazy and just end up posting screenshots of everyone here because this is where the followers are and the sideblogs end up being used as aesthetic warehouses. Anywhoo, here’s some need-to-knows about Alannah.

Alannah has two main verses: Warrior of Light and Non-WoL.

Her non-WoLverse is actually the primary one, but with Shadowbringers I’ve been focusing more on her WoL story.

I also have an infinite amount of AU verses for her based on various media but nobody has time for me to list all of those.

In both verses she’s a White Mage, a capable healer, but focuses more on offensive elemental spells (wind, water, earth).

Alannah is my only OC with a Warrior of Light verse.

She’s 23 years old.

She has severe allergies to grass, pollen, dust, dander, and certain foods.

Her allergy reactions are largely kept at bay by a delicate chain diadem made and blessed by padjal. It also helps correct her shitty vision, magic is great.

Her deepest fears include deep water and phurbles.

She has four older brothers: Faron, Ean, Davon, and Brennan.

Family issues. Just so many family issues. That’s an entire post on its own.

Her hair is dark brown, not black. I cannot state this emphatically enough no matter what my edits look like.

The white streaks are magical scars, the cause of them vary by verse.

Non-WoL Alannah is married to Nine Outway, they have a three-year old daughter named Aislinn.

Warrior of Light Alannah (hereafter known as WoLannah) I ship exclusively with dead ghost boyfriend Ardbert.

Deep-seated anger issues buried beneath a placid and friendly exterior.

Her aether is just irreparably borked and highly chaotic and is controlled via her staff and arcane symbols painted onto her arms in aether ink.

Her childhood dream was to be a powerful thaumaturge, which didn’t work out with her aether control issues.

26 years old.

Born to a moderately wealthy Limsan merchant family.

2 older sisters: Pippa and Lacy.

Jacke Swallow (of rogues guild fame) is her best friend (and secret love) since childhood.

Her entire family was murdered when she was 16 because her father made shady deals with the wrong people and owed them money.

She’s been mute since the day of the massacre after witnessing the murders while hiding in the cellar beneath their feet.

She’s been staying with Jacke and his cohorts in the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss since then, though he’s the only one that knows her true identity.

A long chain of events has lead to her being kidnapped from Kugane, shipwrecked off the coast of Othard twice, sucked into a magical whirlpool, and left stranded on the First.

Will she ever get home? Perhaps, when I’ve finally decided that her ridiculous journey has been Odyssean enough.

K H I A R N A K H A ( @khi-tastrophe )

29 years old.

An incandescent ball of unquenchable rage, probably for valid reasons.

The daughter of the khan of a minor offshoot of the Kha tribe.

Had a twin sister named Khiela, who pretended to be kidnapped by an aggressive suitor and lead Khiarna on a wild goose chase across Eorzea in an attempt to find her.

Khiela and her lover conspired to and succeeded in murdering her father.

Khiarna returned to Othard and murdered the shit out of both of them in retaliation for killing her father.

She was then unanimously chosen as her father’s successor and currently reigns as khatun to the nomadic merchant tribe.

While traveling across Eorzea in search of her errant sister, Khi was involved in a relationship with a pathological liar, which has severely damaged her ability to trust people (on top of her family drama).

Currently in a relationship with Sidirahg of the Sixth ( @sidirahg ), who has the patience of a saint with her issues and also might be a masochist.

Khi is a shaman and uses a mix of conjury and pugilism in combat.

She covers her fists and feet in a solid layer of rock and then lights them on fire, using a combination of speed, flexibility, and disorienting blows to fell her opponents.

anyway, since a high school AU is apparently go, here's where my OCs fit in:

alannah 》 the nerd. lives in the library, occassionally visits the art and music rooms. can often be found reading in the hallway because she forgets to keep walking. has actually read the textbooks cover to cover. constantly trips and breaks her glasses. always has a full box of tissues on her. usually doesn't speak unless spoken to, but if you direct the conversation to one of her hidden interests she will never stop talking again. has perfect grades, except for PE. never goes on field trips because of her allergies. has had a crush on the same boy since first grade.

khiarna 》 plays every sport the school offers, but somehow isn't a jock. knows everybody, but doesn't talk to anybody except that one tall dude she's dating. if you comment on her height, there is a 97.6% chance you will end up stuffed into a locker. if you mention her twin, who's in a juvenile detention facility, you will also end up in a locker. is secretly in counseling to manage her anger. has never lost a pizza eating contest. volunteers at an animal shelter on the weekends.

brina 》 the girl in the back of the class sharpening her pencils with razor blades. nobody can ever remember hearing her talk, even though she must have at some point. has a reputation as a bad girl even though she's never been anything but a model student. is dating some college dude that nobody's ever seen but everybody's heard of, they're childhood friends. has the unfortunate distinction of having a murdered family, so everybody keeps their distance and nobody talks to her. is a prodigy at the piano.

ean 》 has the worst reputation in school. is constantly starting fights, and always wins. leather jacket, white undershirt, and grungy jeans, regardless of uniform dress code? check. has rock bottom grades, bullies his tutors into doing his homework for him. can't name a single element on the periodic table but knows the cup size of the entire class of freshman girls. encourages rumors that he's banged all the hot teachers. is it true? maybe. is the one always setting off the smoke alarms by lighting up in the bathroom. uses alannah's locker instead of his own because he forgot the combination.

fragrance: what do your OCs smell like?

Alannah smells like white musk perfume, the tang of ink, a touch of musty old tomes, fresh bread, and occasionally a hint of lemon but the kind that hand wipes smell like because that's the best scent ever.

Khiarna smells like acrid smoke, fresh steppes air, rhea, and sometimes a little bit like leather and horse.

Brina smells like fresh linen and wheat fields, sometimes like gun powder, sometimes like sewer mud, and a lot of times like blood.

Ean smells like leather and manure a lot of the time. After a bath he smells like whiskey, cigarettes, and sometimes blood. Sometimes when he's angry, you can catch the scent of ozone, as though lightning were about to strike.

conspiracy theory: what are your OC’s beliefs? are they skeptics or do they believe easily? who acts on blind faith? who needs to see to believe?

Hmm, okay.

Alannah acknowledges that the Twelve probably exist and have influence on the world in whatever ways, but she pretty much ignores them and her spirituality revolves around Hydaelyn herself and the Elementals. And for her, everything is tied together by aether.

Khiarna is a shaman, dedicated firstly to Nhaama and then to the elements. She's not particularly vocal about her practices, but there is a reverence in the way she honors both.

Brina is aggressively atheistic, if only because her other option is to be angry all the time at whatever divine beings exist for allowing the things she's seen to happen.

Ean is probably an Ascian, who knows.

Just gonna throw a blanket statement here to say that all of my characters are cis and pretty solidly identify as female or male, except Brennan who is probably the closest thing to nonbinary that I have.

• Alannah | biromantic, demisexual female

traits: stubborn, reckless, impulsive, absentminded, conflicted, idealistic, kind, easygoing, studious, ambitious (for magical strength), introverted, emotional, emotionally transparent, sarcastic, and sometimes kind of petty

• Khiarna | heterosexual female

traits: proud, hot-tempered, persistent, determined, vengeful, aggressively feminist, an emotional brick wall, pragmatic, reliable, and wittier than you'd probably expect with her very dry sense of humor

• Brina | demisexual female, maybe more gray ace?

traits: dedicated, driven, goal-oriented, tunnel vision, extremely introverted, cynical, obsessive, protective, family-oriented, methodical, observant, level-headed, and sentimental

12. what is something everyone should know about your muses before interacting?

It's probably important to note that Alannah is canonically and ICly a White Mage. Not a conjurer. She has a close relationship with the Senna siblings and has trained in white magic under them. Yes, I am aware of how rare they are in lore. No, I don't care. I've made her as lore compliant as I can while still developing the character that I want to make. Also, she's not all powerful. She has p l e n t y of exploitable weaknesses, and while she's obviously versed in healing and succor, her true talents lay in the offensive aspects of white magic.

Other than that my characters are lore friendly, maybe with the exception of Khiarna, who is a shaman that essentially functions as a combo of conjurer and pugilist.

OOC things to know: I'm a neurotic, anxious mess who's been struggling with depression for years. I love writing, but it sure as hell doesn't love me. If you want to write with me, be prepared to be very, very patient. Also, it will take me approximately 10 years to get back to you no matter what platform you contact me on. I work full time even though it doesn't seem like it because I'm on tumblr all day at work.

17. do your muses get along with each other?

...tfw you realize most of your characters are loners...

Anyone who's followed me for five minutes has probably figured out that Alannah and Ean, who are siblings, do not get get along in any way, shape, or form. Then again nobody gets along with Ean, but these two have a particularly nasty and hostile relationship.

Khi is surprisingly not hard to get along with as long as you don't do anything to set off her temper. She and Alannah have a friendly acquaintenceship from when Khi stayed with Alannah's free company during her stay in Eorzea.

Brina has no relationships with my other OCs, not that she ever says anything anyway. Getting along with her is easy if you leave her alone and don't pry in her business.

Yara is basically a hermit and is too busy wandering to know anyone else.

And V'shara is friendly, if somewhat aloof. She'll have contact with Alannah and PGSM eventually, maybe even with Yara, I'm just slow getting her there while I figure her out.

4: How do you get into your OC’s mindset to write for them? How do you find the muse for them? (For any/all of your OCs - What's the ritual and what's the process for getting into that brain space?)

Honestly, it can take me days. I have to be in the right mood and get the right amount of sleep (sometimes I need 10 hours, sometimes I write on 2 hours of sleep) before I can even get started. Then I have to find the right music to write to (sometimes it doesn’t happen) and find a gif or a screenshot to frame it around (sometimes I’ll spend 2 to 3 hours on this; I could do it after writing, but at this point it’s part of the ritual). It should be said that I do 95% of my writing at work on my phone, I just can’t seem to concentrate at home with so many distractions.

Alannah is the easiest to write for me, since I’m in her mindset most of the time anyway. I don’t have to do much to figure out how she’d think about or react to things, it flows pretty naturally since I’m constantly going through ideas for her.

With Khiarna, I have to be more deliberate. She can be very one-note if I’m not careful, and I have to remind myself that her anger is not all that she is. It’s a lot easier for me to write for her shortly after rp, when everything’s still fresh, and I’m more able to balance out her abrasiveness with her happiness, jealousy, and doubts.

Brina’s pretty easy to write for, since she doesn’t talk and I hate writing dialogue anyway. I’ve always been better at writing thoughts and emotions rather than speech, though her hyper-driven focus and intensity can sometimes be hard to capture. She actually takes me the longest to write for, possibly because I’ve never had her interact with anyone, so inspiration comes slower.

Ean is difficult to write because his thought processes don’t come naturally to me. I find it much easier to get into his headspace when I’ve been talking to @thaliak , who always indulges my headcanon spam and idea bouncing. Writing for him definitely requires specific mood music that I haven’t quite figured out yet, but I’m pretty sure I could just play “You’re a Mean One (Mr. Grinch)” and get close. :p
