Two Sides to Everything
Everyone has heard the phrase “two sides to every story” or “two sides to every coin” and any other iteration of that adage to say that there’s always another way to look at things. And that comes into play a lot when dealing with the first air sign of the zodiac, Gemini. Gemini is known as the twins and they are born between May 21st and June 20th. Gemini’s have a reputation for being two-faced or even having multiple-personalities when they can just switch between keeping the “People Pleasing Switch” on and shutting that switch down quicker than a snap. A Gemini is adaptable, curious, and witty while being non-committal, easily distracted, and restless at the same time. A person born under the star sign Gemini might like books, adventure, and music for gifts and experiences but they might dislike routine and silence. To understand why Gemini's are the way they are, it might be best to look into the mythology of the constellation. When looking into the history of the Twins, it's found that the story of Gemini is best told with another specific zodiac story, Aries.

If you remember about the golden fleece of Chrysomallos, the flying golden ram that saved Phrixus, was then sacrificed to thank the gods, and that was kept in the sacred garden of Ares, then you remember that Jason came to retrieve the fleece from the king. But there were two men who were important in his band of men, the Argonauts. These two men were twins and sons of Zeus, Castor and Polydeuces (also known as Pollux). Leda, their mother and queen of Sparta, was seduced by Zeus as a swan. She laid with her husband as well that night and found herself with child soon after. Once Leda’s pregnancy came to term, she then laid two eggs, one holding the immortal Pollux and the other holding the mortal Castor, and she also bore Helen and Clytemnestra. While Castor and Clytemnestra were mortal and believed to be the children of the Spartan king Tyndareus, Pollux and Helen were believed to be the children of Zeus. The two brothers received a nickname, The Dioscuri, meaning Sons of Zeus, even though there were some who believed that since Castor was mortal, he wasn’t the son of Zeus. Even though that fact would remain a problem for many people in Sparta, Castor never allowed the fame and praise the Pollux got for being immortal to stop him. Castor became a renowned horse rider and tamer while Pollux became a famous boxer. Pollux and his brother Castor were inseparable, never straying far from each other as they loved each other unconditionally and would do whatever they could to assist the other.
They went on many adventures together, one notably being to assist Meleager with the Calydonian boar. When the king of Calydon failed to give an offering to the goddess Artemis, she became angry and sent a giant boar to terrorize his lands. The king sent word for a hero to save his lands and the job was picked up by the king’s son, Meleager. While Meleager was ambitious about his skills and knew he needed to defend his kingdom and people, he knew he needed help. Meleager gathered a group of men together and received the assistance of Castor and Pollux. The twins aided the prince in hunting the boar for many days. When Meleager got the final blow on the boar, he awarded the prized skin to the woman who drew first blood from the animal, Atalanta, the only woman brave enough to go with the men on the terrible hunt. During the hunt, Castor and Pollux met Jason and his band of men who would be going on their own quest soon enough. The twins decided to assist them and made certain to lend whatever aid they could. During a treacherous storm, Castor and Pollux were able to navigate the Argo through the dangerous waters to get to king Aeetes and were anointed with stars on their foreheads for their skills.
While the crew were on the journey for the golden fleece, Pollux was challenged to a boxing match with the king of Bebryces. Pollux fought well and hard, and won against the king famously. Upon their return to Sparta, their sister Helen was kidnapped and taken to Athens. The twins went to fight in the battles to retrieve their sister, they brought Theseus’ mother with them as retribution. Soon enough Helen would be taken to Troy and the pair of brothers went back to war to fight for their sister’s return. But then there would be a time that the brothers grew older and only one would stay physically young. Castor died when he and Pollux were caught stealing cattle from their cousins who they had been in arguments with for a while. Pollux killed one cousin and Zeus killed the other as he had killed Castor. Pollux was heartbroken by the death of his brother and begged Zeus to share his immortality. The king of the gods obliged and so the brothers could live together. To balance out that half of the pair was truly dead, Zeus made the deal that the brothers would live half of the year in the heavens while the other half they would be in the underworld. Pollux and Castor agreed and they were immortalized in the heavens as the constellation Gemini.

Geminis have their best luck on Wednesdays and have some great times when they wear yellow. A Gemini using the numbers twenty-three and fourteen might find their luck enhanced. The two brightest stars of the constellation Gemini are named for the twins whose story gives them their name. Sometimes, Gemini is depicted as one man with two heads to show how Castor and Pollux share one life. In the natural, food grade soap made by the CEO of Birds of Valhalla, Gemini is represented as a duality in colors. A bright white and a vibrant purple are separated by a beige to show how the brothers are separate people, but share the beauty of one life. The colors of this beautiful bar of handcrafted soap can be interpreted to show the royalty of the princes of Sparta and denote how bright they shine in the sky. The scent of lavender chamomile is calming and, as many companions of Gemini’s know, it is a necessary thing to keep on hand. Lavender and Lily of the valley flowers are a couple flowers associated with Gemini so it's fitting that this soap has that calming lavender scent. On top of the bar of soap is a genuine moonstone rune stone with bright flash. While the original fragrance of Gemini is Lavender Chamomile, the astrology line is going to have some changes. Some fragrances will be changing due to costs, availability, or even popularity. Some colors and stones may even be changing as well. Who knows what's to come, other than the CEO who makes all the decisions and the soaps in the studio. To make sure you get the original scent, grab yours here at the Shopify site or at the Etsy website.

Lost in Hell,—Persephone, Take her head upon your knee; Say to her, “My dear, my dear, It is not so dreadful here.”
AUTONOË:    often cited as   quick-witted,    autonoë was the first born daughter of   cadmus & harmonia.    in her youth,     autonoë was provided an education equal to that of a prince,      a rather   uncommon   practice for most royal greek houses at the time.      due to her   sharp mind,     cadmus wedded her to   aristaeus,      a “very clever” son of   apollo,     & they became the parents of   actaeon.       duty bound to care for her nephew   dionysus,      following her sister’s,      semele’s,       death,       autonoë became his nurse from a young age as well.
along with her sister   agave,     autonoë was   driven  mad   by dionysus later in life as   revenge   against agave’s son,   pentheus,    for banning the worship of the wine god in thebes.    she helped agave tear pentheus apart in their bacchanal madness.    actaeon was killed shortly after by his own hounds as punishment for seeing   artemis   naked.       unable to recognize her own son’s body,      autonoë was gripped with grief & left thebes to travel to ereneia, where she died in   exile.
AGAVE:     the third-born daughter of   cadmus & harmonia,      agave was often called   fair-cheeked   in her youth & adolescence due to her soft beauty,      which many said she inherited directly from her   mother.     while she could be   prideful & often cruel   along with   autonoë & ino,     agave’s ambition secured the house of thebes on more than one occasion.    she was married to   echion   & bore him   pentheus,   a future king of thebes,      &   epirus,     a follower of   dionysus.     she became a nurse for the wine god following   semele’s   death,      though took a less active role than   autonoë & ino   in his upbringing.
along with her sister,    autonoë,       agave was   driven  mad   by dionysus as revenge against pentheus for banning the worship of the wine god in thebes.      the murder also served as   punishment   for autonoë's & agave’s part in   slandering   semele’s name by claiming that she had had unmarried sex with a mortal man instead of   zeus.     agave tore her son apart,    thinking he was a lion in her madness,     & was   banished   from thebes.       she went on to marry   king  lycotherses   of the illyrians; however,    she would   murder   him in his bed to hand his kingdom over to her father cadmus.       she died in   exile.
INO:     ino was the   exceptionally  beautiful   second daughter of   cadmus & harmonia.     as the second wife of   king athamas,       she became the mother of   learches & melicertes   as well as the step-mother to   phrixus & helle.      always   vain  &  somewhat  insecure,       she came to be   distrustful   of her step-children & attempted to plot their   murder   before they were rescued by their brith mother,     nephele.      in the attempt,       helle perished in the dardanelles while phrixus made it to safety.      ino also fostered   dionysus   upon   semele’s   death,      thus incurring the   wrath   of   hera,       who struck athamas with insanity.
the king slew learches,      mistaking him for a ram,      & set out in pursuit of his wife & remaining son.       to escape him,      ino threw   herself  off  a  cliff  with melicertes & both   drowned   in the sea below.       she was later transformed into the sea goddess  leucothea.
SEMELE:       the last daughter of   cadmus & harmonia,      semele was the   mortal  woman   with  an  immortal  son.      perhaps the most   joyful  &  complex   character of the daughters,      semele became a priestess of   zeus   & later the love interest of said god.     her   beauty  &  charm   allowed her name to gain recognition before her impregnation by the king of the gods became known.    jealous,      hera   came to semele as a crone & planted seeds of doubt in the young girl’s mind about the identity of her lover.
when zeus appeared before her once more,       she demanded that he show her his godly form.         as he had sworn an oath to do whatever his beloved asked of him,       zeus had no choice but to comply & she was   incinerated   nearly instantly.       her son   dionysus   was only saved by being sewn into his father’s thigh until birth.    she was later   rescued  from  the  underworld  by dionysus & became the goddess   thyone.
