I went to the zoo today and saw the words "barred owl" written out for the first time in like 10 years, and I suddenly understood a pun that had soared over my head my entire life. So you know that really good owl movie called the Guardians of Ga'Hoole? It had a book series I've binged several times over, it's amazing. The main character (an owl) is named Soren, like soarin' because he's a bird, there's a burrowing owl named Digger, because he digs, right? Well, Twilight (the nocturnal bird) has a lute or lyre or some stringed instrument and just can't help himself from breaking into song whenever he pleases.

Twilight's also a barred owl. Bard bird is a barred bird.

I was so distracted by Digger and Soren I totally missed it!

Welp, time for a re-read to see what else I missed.

But I am currently learning a very similar moral at a much lower level of peril with this fuckin scarf why is yarn so heavy and stretchy and big and why can't it behave exactly like the storebought tiny knit machine made one I based my measurements on

Finally casted off! But I'm not done yet. They look like tassels but in fact they are not.

I definitely misjudged how big and heavy it was actually going to be, but pattern wise I think I did a cool thing.

So the big purple stripe is the midpoint and you can see the transition. When looking at colorwork techniques I found it was basically impossible to have a reversible and seamless transition, so I made it reversible by having each stripe be an odd number (5 rows) so that both sides both had the seams and seamless transitions.

I can't be the only one to have done this technique but I also didn't see it spelled out like this so I kinda consider it me figuring it out on my own? Yeah.

Can't say I'm proud how it turned out yet cause it's not actually done yet but hopefully soon. Hopefully it will look a lot cleaner once all the ends are sewn in.

I love March there's this week in the middle where we get to eat pie and then the next day we get to celebrate the death of the politician that fucked up the numbered calendar system and then we get a little break and then it's peak cringe american day where I can play irish songs on the jukebox at my favorite non-irish themed bar and no one can complain about it its great

I just watched the 4 hour long hbomberguy video everyone's talking about (well listened to while getting some cleaning done. I got so much cleaning done I'm so proud of myself)

But what's sad is I have to unsub from internet historian now because apparently the video about the cave and the guy who got trapped in it was heavily plagiarized. I really wasn't expecting him to be part of this what the fuck.

I've never heard of summerton or iluminaughty or whoever was at the beginning I don't even remember who it was I think there was someone else, but I've been subbed to IH for awhile and got genuinely excited for his videos. Too bad he's a shady asshole who can't at least list the article he was reading from in the sources.

The british reaction to the easter rising in ireland is actually kind of funny. the first time I read the Guardians of Ga'hoole books I bought the first 5 or so to read on an airplane and in any downtime on a weeklong trip. Now I've decided to use them to try to get back in the habit of reading in general. I'm going on an overnight trip now, so I guess The Journey is going to see one more.

I'm looking for a nice area rug for my office room so my rollie chair has any resistance at all when I lean back the tiniest amount, and I'm seeing so many holiday themed rugs. I understand holiday hand towels but who's out there switching out rugs for the holiday? Where are you keeping them when they're not on the ground?? You switching out your curtains too??? Might As Well paint the living room red and green for december too! What will the guests think when the banisters aren't literal candy canes.
