For three days after New Year's, the High Count's perfectly scrawled, perfectly creased invitation to dinner theater hung like a bat on the bedroom corkboard. Fergus kept it there beside a calendar featuring pixies in trees and vaguely motivational phrases like Tomorrow is a day of work and Look before you ping. He needed to go. He needed to bring Talon to see his father. They needed to talk about Talon, about his future, about the roles they would or wouldn't each play in raising him… It was necessary. An appointment.

It was not, as Columbine Longwood called it in the copy center, a date. The instant the word entered conversation, Sapphire placed a hand on Fergus's back, right beneath his wings.

"Walk away," she told him, cold and firm. Her effervescence tickled the inside of his ear in a swirl of irritated magic and exhaled breath. "She's not worth it."

"I won't walk," Fergus muttered back, but he did stuff his hands in the pockets of his work pants… It would keep him from grabbing the star-tipped pen inside his jacket. "I'm waiting for my copies." Which was obvious; the machine practically screamed when it ran. He'd experimented before and you could hear the noise from here to the toilets. He needed many copies. These were for Hawkins' finance presentation in 40 minutes (Evaluating the effectiveness of current wand technologies and comparing them to other options on the market; Fergus had to be there because Thane couldn't make it and he was the only other person who studies wands enough to give unbiased advice about their inner workings regardless of Fairy propaganda and pretty shells).

Anyway, Longwood couldn't tell him where in this building to go or what to do. She wasn't his boss. Sapphire's, maybe, but not his. Maybe he'd stay in the copy center all day. It might just be a little room, but it smelled sweetly of ink stains and lemon cleaning sprays. Here, the carpet stripes ran north to south instead of east to west. It was a good room. He'd park his butt. Work remotely from here in place of the office down the hall. What was she going to do about it?

Longwood's wings slanted back at his words, drooping low. Incidentally expressive. All six people in the copy center looked directly at her because of it… even her own freckle-faced intern, who floated nearby with a manila folder pressed against his chest. Longwood corrected quickly, pushing herself back into a floating position. Her dull gray fingernails clenched so tightly against the meeting notes in her hand, the page crumpled.

"I was making a joke. Ha ha, ha ha."

No one else laughed. Sapphire's cold fingers pressed so close to the slits for Fergus's wings, she grazed bare skin. Nearly imperceptible. Tiny half-moons. He turned around.

"I think you knew exactly what you were saying. You're accusing me of matchbreaking."

"It was a joke," Longwood defended again. Fergus tried to speak, but Sapphire's nails bit softly against his skin.

"She's not worth it… Longwood, back off."

Now that sounded like a joke worth laughing at. Back off? Longwood lived her life fighting to be the type of person who was worth responding to when she let some quip or challenge fly. She sort of basked in being the workplace enemy… Fergus couldn't define exactly why, but he'd long suspected her need for attention stemmed from being the lastborn child in a very big family. Longwood liked to own things, and things required money. She worked for that. She always knew exactly what she was doing, buzzing around in a fuzzy gray sweater that only barely passed the company's workplace attire requirements… It was very nearly silver. Very nearly against the rules. That seemed to be her motto.

Longwood landed then on one of the copy machines not in use, gripping it with her hands and curled toes. She crouched like a mountain cat with an invisible twitching tail. "It's a joke! … I'll say it again for those who didn't hear, and I'll emphasize the part of it that's meant to get a rise: 'It seems like you're making more of an effort to see Talon's daddy since your match took on a damsel's body, and if I didn't know better, I'd say you're meeting up with him for a date…' It implies matchbreaking, which is statistically unlikely. It's hilarious."

"I will bite you," said Sapphire, holding Fergus's arm with both hands now. "This is your only warning."

Hi, I went through my AO3 stories on Saturday and updated their tags. I had a lot of works with non-canonized tags (or just messy tags in general).

Specifically: Origin, Knots, and Reedfilter Rules got some updates that hopefully make their content more clear. I linked them here, so consider checking those out.

Next RR chapter will probably remind readers to check the tags since the story was originally labeled "other additional tags to be added," and now some new ones are there. Origin and Knots were simply tidied up; not much changed with them, so this is the only planned announcement for those two.

Come What May comes off hiatus on August 4th, so I hope you're looking forward to seeing Kevin again :)

Updates for that story (and Reedfilter) will be slow so I can show favor to Origin, Knots, and Factor right now, but if you're enjoying Come What May and Reedfilter, let me know via comments / asks / kudos / etc. and I'll consider fleshing out their buffers and posting them more frequently on non-Friday weekdays.

Final note - I'm on a road trip all week. I prepped my queue and I'm hoping I'll have enough Internet on Thursday night / Friday morning to do my Factor It In update on Friday. If I don't, the preview image will post without a link [and without a site update] and I'll fix it as soon as I can :)

Post-Poll Notes

After looking at the "When should I post chapters?" poll and giving it some thought, I think I'll post new chapters on Fridays [Possibly Thursday night with a Friday announcement on Tumblr] and do a reminder reblog bump the following Tuesday.

I've been super busy with work IRL, including getting lots of work on my novel done (Sent my first 10 pages to an agent last night). I still look forward to writing for FOP, but updates will be sporadic as I'm not really able to build a buffer right now.

Look to mid to late April for the next update! I anticipate a new Reedfilter Rules chapter followed a couple weeks later by the next Frayed Knots update. I think we'll mainly go in a Rules > Knots > Origin of the Pixies cycle with a 4th project mixed in on occasion.

I'm confident we'll finally get into the war chapters this year in Knots and Origin, which will mean a lot of crossovers between the two. The war chapters (and, truthfully, most of the stuff that comes after like the expansions of Pixie World, A.C./A.W. romance, and rise of Anti-Sanderson) have been heavily written since 2016, so getting here 6 to 7 years later is pretty exciting. I'll still need to write some missing scenes from scratch, but most of the work should be tidying up what younger me did and adding transitions between the existing scene blocks.

Speaking of, I'm coming up on my 7-year anniversary of writing for FOP. It's something I enjoy and I'm glad there are also people out there who enjoy my convoluted projects and like sending me Asks. Thanks for reading!

New Reedfilter Rules chapter on Friday, then we'll have a Frayed Knots chapter in a couple weeks. We'll mostly alternate between Origin and Knots, with occasional interruptions from other stuff.

Starting to build up a buffer, so I'd say you can expect chapters somewhere between "every other Friday" and "every three Fridays." This is a soft expectation, not a hard deadline that I'm going to stress over.

Basically, enjoy when there's content, and if you're hungry for more content in between releases, you can send worldbuilding or story Asks and I'll schedule those to post when I don't have a chapter that week.

(I may possibly repeat this announcement in different words at a later time so I can use it as a pinned post, but I'll wait until the buffer is a bit bigger or I'm in more of a groove).

Hi, little update. Almost done with the next Reedfilter Rules chapter, hoping to post it next Friday or maybe the one after. It took a lot of overhauling but I think I’m finally looking at something I like instead of dread.

I’ve been going through a heckuva lot emotionally for the past month, so please be patient if this chapter ends up falling through and/or if I don’t reply to you. FOP is going to be my crutch for a while so please keep any negativity away from my inbox / reviews / replies, ty.

Also... At this point I’m pretty sure I never posted it because I have looked EVERYWHERE, but if anyone remembers me posting a screenshot of a spreadsheet that tells me how to craft Anti-Fairy Vatajasa names, I’d be super grateful if you could direct me to it :/ I think it’s saved on Excel on a different device so I’ll have to look for it when I return to the place the old computer is, but I’ve been going insane. Almost as insane as when it took me 3 hours to find a scene for the next Knots chapter that I don’t remember deleting but I finally found buried halfway down the the edit changes of some other doc, aye yai yai...

Hi, another update. Mentioned a while ago that my laptop was no longer functional- I’m still working towards replacing that with something new. Also got a new desktop computer (Replaced a device I’ve had for nearly a decade + transferred lots of files over). Going through lots of changes (Job switch, sibling got married, got a new office, also some other things I don’t want to go into detail about on Tumblr).

No longer have access to my old art program, but I planned ahead for that and bought a new program while it was on sale, so I’ll be experimenting with that in the upcoming weeks. Expect Happy Peppy Gary art. Might be some 130 Prompt spoilers in it but at this point I frankly don’t care, I’ve been actively planning and drafting the 130 since 2016 and I’m anxious to draw for some of the major plot stuff skljdf. My hyperfixation for the last several months has been War & Peace / Great Comet of 1812 and :’) “Pierre & Andrey” is a very good song for a lot of my OCs but also for Gary and the Pixies, I swear...

May also draw some Chloes and Kevins and others. Possibly Dame Sandy, some Longwood, and maybe some Commelina because I read through all the remaining Origin chapter drafts and stuff hit me hard and I cry, idk. I’m wasp dad trash and I’m really excited to share more Origin.

Basically I’m straight-up tired of living in fear of judgment so I hope you’re all ready to remember that this is my house and in this house I post what I want.

Don’t really have the emotional strength to talk to anybody, but I’ve been reviewing my ‘fics. I really want to put the next Reedfilter Rules chapter out- been sitting on that one for a very long time. Writing RR!Anti-Cosmo is extremely difficult but... wow, I often love him more than Riddleverse Classic Anti-Cosmo SKLDFJSKLDJF. In Classic he’s often bound by social status and tradition while RR!Anti-Cosmo straight-up does what he wants and it’s fantastic. I know I’ve been picking at the revisions for his chapter for ages, but he has to be perfect when he goes public because he's very different from Classic!Anti-Cosmo and I want everything to be /chef’s kiss for me.

If you’re new here and/or not up to date with Reedfilter canon, I encourage you to check the Reedfilter Rules tag on my blog and maybe learn some interesting things you didn’t know yet :> RR is an AU of my Classic take on canon, but it remains consistent with show canon and it’s full of dumb cliches and dumb flirting and political idiots and it’s just silly and fun for me.

Should be some Frayed Knots and Origin on the horizon as well, so thank you for your patience. I am extremely anxious to move both stories along and there’s not much left to do before I post, but I’m finicky and want to ensure my buffer is stable before I return to a consistent schedule. Fingers maybe crossed for going back to our one chapter a week schedule, but not promising that yet. We’re entering my favorite part of Origin, but it coincides with the most difficult part of Knots, so it’s a struggle.

Emphasizing again that I basically have not been keeping up with reviews, Tumblr notifs, or FFN / AO3 commentary for a very long time. I thank you for sending them and apologize if you were waiting for a response you didn’t receive. Life is kind of stressful and people always need me for something, so at the end of the day I don’t always want to build up the emotional strength to search my inbox and read comments for my different stories/fandoms that might not always be nice, and even if they are nice then I don’t always have the ability to reply. Sometimes it’s easier to look at nothing and sometimes those avoidance periods need to last a long time. I appreciate any kind words that have been sent my way.

I’ve been extremely busy and still have not watched the FOP live action spin-off thing. I’ve kept my distance from fandom content and successfully avoided spoilers all this time, but I’m planning to watch it very soon now that life is starting to come back under control. I watched the first episode and enjoyed it, but blocking out enough time to binge on free trial isn’t easy and suddenly most of the year goes by... Exhaustion.

Vainly hoped I’d return to Tumblr someday and find that the divider line and/or abilities to create white space dividers with the enter key had returned to the post editor and wow I cannot express enough how disappointed I am that they have done exactly not that.

Sorry for Ask box stuff I haven’t touched in one million years; just didn’t have FOP brainpower for a long time and needed to do other things. There are some heavy topics like war, abuse, politics, discrimination, death, and affairs in my ‘fics and sometimes you need space from that type of content even when you’re the one who put it there.

If anyone knows whether Tumblr still refuses to show posts that contain links, I’d be interested in knowing more about the current situation.

How many episodes did Darcy appear in the show?

Hello, thank you for the question! I kept postponing an answer, thinking maybe I could watch some episodes, but I haven't had the time so I finally decided it was time to get this out of my Ask box ^^;

I'm really not sure how many episodes she's in, but my tentative guess is between 8 and 10.

I think my favorite Darcy scene is when she says she doesn't work at the pet store and Mikey responds "I thought you were 'not working' at the pizza place" and her answer is "Oh, I still don't work there... but just on Saturdays!" She's silly, I like her <3

I think my BIaB 'fic Goodness of Misfit actually has a Darcy POV chapter. That's Chapter 2, "Wolves Without Teeth" iirc. She's fun.

(I should definitely post the Beverly POV chapter, I've been sitting on it for ages in my FFN doc manager because I was struggling with the Bunsen POV chapter that I wanted to post first; I also kept delaying because I felt like I'd moved past the story and it felt awkward to update it out of nowhere, but... it would be one less thing for me to worry about if I just post it. I've been editing regularly to refresh the deletion countdown timer for literally 5 years at this point, lol.)

Anyway Darcy is good, I support her and Salmonella the turtle.

Fairly OddParents

I'm working on a buffer for Origin of the Pixies and Frayed Knots chapters so they can alternate during the war. At the moment I'm posting content for other fandoms, but once the buffer is ready, these will roll out weekly. Hopefully by summer.

- Origin is caught up and ready for the war meeting next chapter, so we're just wrapping up Anti-Cosmo's school and relationship drama in Knots :) - We're in the era of 2016 draft chapters, so it's a combo of "Lots of stuff is already written" and "Lots of stuff needs to be updated."

Origin and Knots will update on Fridays when the time is right (alternating weeks).

The 130 Prompts wrapped up Arc 2 in December and is on hiatus.

If you missed the Arc 2 finale, check out "Grudge"- It's about Happy Peppy Gary and Crocker striking a dangerous deal and I think it's cute :)

Ideally, I'd like to finish the whole Come What May draft before I post more chapters (so we don't have more of these long lurches between chapters), and Reedfilter Rules is in a similar boat.

Origin and Knots are my priority, but once Come What May starts, I'd like to do weekly or bi-weekly updates until it's done.

Factor It In - I'm very happy with how the story has come out so far. It's fully outlined, but this is a "serious and fluffy" story and I've been on a "silly and angsty" streak lately, so the mood isn't there.

- I'd like to circle back to it soon, but don't want to post more chapters until I have a nice buffer. - I'd like to post again in autumn 2024 and keep up weekly updates for several months. Origin and Knots are higher priority, but I really like this story and look forward to more.

I have some WordGirl one-shot drafts I've been sitting on for months. I haven't been satisfied with them enough to post, but you might see them soon as I finalize them. There's no schedule for these, but they include:

- Local alien girl is SO brave about Rex's problems while they lie in the grass discussing love and culture - Local alien boy loses his fawn spots, comes of age, and hits up Hal Hardbargain for alien-strength deodorant - Character study for Victor Best (My horrible son) - Character study for pre-series Rex living on Hexagon (My somehow more horrible son) - Other drafts from 2018 that need polish

I so desperately want to show the world my "Hopelessly romantic life planner since he was born" x "She can't commit to anything including this" marriage of convenience superhero drama... He's oblivious... She's dying inside... He is so embarrassing... Do u understand my vision?

MCYT

- Dog's Life Session 2 will end with Chapter 30. I've finished up to Chapter 28 and just need to tweak the remaining chapters. It will then be on hiatus for a few months while I work on the Session 3 buffer and other projects.

Edit - Session 2 will actually be 36 chapters, so another month

Expecting 4 to 5 months of hiatus from regular updates with some intermission chapters a few weeks apart (Full moon arc, my beloved). I have 'fics I look forward to posting (including new multi-chapters that already have nice buffers and will post weekly), so there will be plenty of MCYT content, but it seemed wise to leave Dog's Life on break to avoid burnout. I hope you enjoy these new stories! When Dog's Life returns, it'll be with weekly updates for several months as per usual :)

My "first half of 2024" goal is to close out as many of my existing MCYT multi-chapters as I can. Thank you for your patience with multi-chapters that have slow updates- I plan to finish them soon :)

I recently completed For Sale: Bird Wings (Never Worn) with weekly updates and am on track to finish One and a Half Birds with weekly Friday updates.

After this, I would like to finish the last 2 to 3 chapters of Criminal Experience (which has always had Friday updates as well). I don't want to post the next chapter until I nail down the story's end, so there's been a delay, but I'm glad I've wrapped up other multi-chapters and I look forward to finishing this soon.

After this, I plan to post MCYT content Tuesdays and Sundays, leaving Fridays for my other fandoms.

What's on Tuesdays?

At the moment, Dog's Life for 7 more weeks. Session 2 ends with Chapter 30 on April 9th.

Edit: Chapter 36 on May 21st

I've started new multi-chapters while chasing inspiration bursts, but I held back from posting them, so now I have buffers for those. I look forward to sharing them throughout 2024. Two notable ones are:

- Chalaza - Quick story about Martyn arriving in New Star Station. Bdubs voice study, some practice writing short scenes, and this is the story that helped me nail down pixel person anatomy. ^ Highlights include Bdubs trotting around with Martyn's dissolved soul in a fishbowl and regaling Etho with tales of how the Phantom Dragon carries phantom hybrids in her mouth. Also, Martyn hides under Etho's couch for 4 days. - Herobrine's Guide to the Between Dimension - A meta story about my Between lore, hybrid anatomy, and hybrid culture. No plot, but I think it's fun.

These are expected to post Tuesdays while Dog's Life is on break :)

What's on Sundays?

At the moment, nothing- I'm posting on Fridays (weekly updates to One and a Half Birds for the next several weeks).

I've also got a draft called "Scar's Castle" that's about Grian doing chores during 3rd Life... we'll see if that turns out nice.

Now that Secret Life is over, I've been able to do more worldbuilding and story planning for Neighborhood Watch AU. I plan to post some one-shots soon. Highlights include:

"Goodchild Oscar" - Oscar Goodchild's lovely parents put out a hit on his soulmate. He drags Grian around the Hearts Club Ball in his attempts to thwart it. Title's subject to change, but this is a fun one :) "They Never Found the Desert" - Local Green Life parrot can't get Red Life soulmate motivated for anything. Desperate times call for desperate measures. "Ethograms, Etho Slab, and Something About Ethics (Probably)" - Joel studies wolves... and the single(?) dad who keeps coming around with his kids.

I've also been working on the big multi-chapter for this universe, which centers around the Clocker family: Arsenic Waltz. It's fully outlined and I'm 5 chapters into the buffer, but it doesn't feel "fun" to read yet, so... Hmm.

- If anyone wants to beta read the first 10k words where Martyn arrives at the Clocker residence and meets his soulmate Cleo for the first time, lmk? Been struggling with the pacing of action vs. world lore for months and it'd be nice to get outside thoughts. - My plan was to start posting in April after Dog's Life ends, but it might need more time. With weekly updates, it should finish in December or January, but I'd like a nice buffer first. Possibly, this story will start in the summer and end in early 2025.

EDIT - I ended up killing all these darlings and moving them to a separate story, which will be released at a later time. The pacing was just not working :)

With Acid In Your Eyes - Outlined and expecting 10 chapters. This is a high-tension story I was excited for, but it's on the backburner while finalizing lore, social dynamics, and plot points. It was ambitious to post this one before things were solid, but I look forward to returning when I'm ready :)

How do you come up with fairy names in OotP and the Riddleverse?

Hello, thank you for the ask. I apologize for the delay; I took a Tumblr and FOP hiatus for a while.

A lot of fairy names (like Ambrosine, Solara, Idona, and Sindri) came from whimsical name lists. Some names like Florensa I created myself to fit the same vibe that Juandissimo's name has. Over the years I divided naming themes into different cloudland regions.

I don't put a ton of thought into the names and typically pick whatever sounds right within the first 3 minutes of thought. Here are the thoughts behind some Origin of the Pixies and related 'fic names for anyone interested:

Fergus - Named after a stuffed triceratops owned by a sibling, I thought it was cute and it had the Scottish vibes I was aiming for in the very early stages of my worldbuilding. His middle name is Alexander

Whimsifinado - H.P.'s last name, a combination of the words whimsical and aficionado

Julius and Venus - These names for Anti-Cosmo and Anti-Wanda are the canon middle names of their fairy counterparts

Nebula - Poof's and Foop's middle name is space-themed like Cosmo and Venus and is also a nod to Crash Nebula

Ennet - Sanderson's first name, I just made it up because I liked the vibe of Emmet but the 'M' sound didn't feel very Pixie to me. I swapped them for 'N's and I love it

Longwood - Named after a teacher I had with 'wood' at the end of their surname; I just loved the way it sounded. I also love this name for Sanderson's rival pixie because it implies he's taller (which he is) and I feel like it would tick Sanderson off a lot

Hiccup - Foop's alt personality, obviously named after the fact that he hiccups a lot when he cackles. I've seen a lot of fantastic names for him in fandom [and cool portrayals], but I'm quite happy with the one I picked

Kalysta - Named after an old friend [spelled Calista]. There's no reason why this name was picked for this character specifically, apart from the fact that I always liked the name and wanted to use it. The OG spelling is really pretty, but I felt weird using a friend's name for an antagonist so I changed the spelling

Anti-Marigold - I felt this would be easier to read in story when she appeared opposite Goldie [compared to the name Anti-Goldie] and it also makes a nice parallel for Poof and Foop, as Foop also has a unique name. I don't think the name Kelsia came from anywhere specific, it just fit her

Dusty - This was Poof's concept name [iirc from the same period when Poof was going to be released in Season 2], so it's what I named the next Cosmo x Wanda child. I adore the name Dusty and I'm kind of sad that name didn't make it to the finals, but it's cute. Fairies turn to dust when they die, Anti-Fairies turn to smoke, so his counterpart is named Smoky

King Northiae / Prince Eastkal / Queen Shoulath - They're all named after cardinal directions

Anti-Bryndin - I genuinely have no idea where his name came from, I think it was the first thing to pop into my head when I was trying to name him and I knew immediately that it fit him. I wanted to have a name that sounded mysterious and unusual and ended up with this

Emery - This name first appeared in Reedfilter Rules as the name of H.P.'s daughter; this was picked because she was a pixie kid and it fit the masculine vibes I was going for. I later reused the name for H.P.'s sister in the Origin of the Pixies universe

Those are the main names that come to mind. What it really comes down to though is "Looking up whimsical names" and "Random."

Hello Tumblr followers-

As I’ve mentioned before, I spent the past year building up to an ARPG event I was hosting for personal story (the Raiders of the Southern Temple event). I spent a lot of time prepping, then running the event, and most recently wrapping up the finale pieces and event results. I’m happy to say that apart from handling the prize handouts, I’m finished! Below are some links if you are interested in seeing what I’ve been doing:

“Cuna de Murciélago” - 120k-word finale story [Written so it could be enjoyed by outsiders even with little story context]

In the next few weeks, I’m enjoying the holidays and creating entries for our current ARPG event, which ends in mid-January (It’s an event that lets us submit to retired prompts for free instead of using a group item that’s difficult to get and can only be used on a few characters at a time). Once that wraps up, I plan to return to fanfics throughout 2023, balancing my time on ‘fics with spending more time on the books I want to publish in the coming years.

Currently, I’m a little stuck with the next Origin chapter because even though it’s sitting at 17k words right now, it’s very unfinished and is a struggle to get through [70 underscores that need sections finished]. Fortunately, the chapters that come after it (The huge timeskip one told by Sanderson and the coming-of-age chapter where H.P. shows Sanderson and Longwood coming into their adult wings) are 15k each and only need minor touch-ups. The chapter after that, we go to war and then we get to the chapters I wrote all the way back in 2016, lol.

This also means the chapter I’m stuck on is basically the last time we’ll see our main cast as kids, so I’m trying to do it the justice it deserves while also wrapping up all other plot points that need to fall during the early years; there’s a lot of it, but I’d rather not split it into another chapter if I don’t have to, so it’s taking some time to find the balance between not bogging it down and not leaving loose ends. It will probably need to be split, but we’re getting there.

Thank you for your patience and I look forward to posting more Origin soon (with more ‘fic updates planned in 2023). I’m also hoping to spend more time with my Tumblr blog over winter break and/or in January and February, answering Asks, and maybe brushing up on the sideblog so it’s not in an unfinished state that makes me cringe every time of think of it. Little by little we’re getting there, but my event went well and I’m glad it’s in the wrapping up phase now!

@r0yalfrumpiness​ gifted me a month of Core on dA for my birthday the other week, so I’ve been busy organizing my things in subfolders over there before it runs out. My Creature-Crossing content was already broken into 8 arcs thus far, so luckily moving them into subfolders was pretty easy. Yay!

I also worked this week on two CC drafts that I need to have out in the next month for plot, one being a huge flashback story for my linchpin antagonist and the shorter one tying up a major arc for two of my important characters who were in a relationship that didn’t work out. Progress is good. I... am not sure how I’m going to get everything together in time for the Arc 7 finale in December, but I will work hard to make the attempt. Even if I miss my December 14th deadline, as long as I get everything done before January 1st, I’ll be happy.

I did work on the next chapter of Reedfilter Rules this week, fingers crossed to have that out next Friday. RR Anti-Cosmo is a very different vibe from Frayed Knots Anti-Cosmo, so I wanted to get this done before I get back to Knots, but the early chapters of new stories are always the hardest as you figure out how to set things up. This next chapter will probably be kind of slow, but after picking at the story outline for a really long time, I don’t think there’s any other good spot to set up the things I need. The RR worldbuilding is very different from my classic worldbuilding, so it’s a little tricky to introduce readers not only to the cloudlands but also to the ways the cloudlands are different in this world, but I think I’m getting there.

So the current plan is Anti-Cosmo’s RR chapter next Friday, then I’ll disappear for another month as I buckle down on finishing my Creature-Crossing writing for my December plot point. As soon as that stuff drops, however, there are no more big important deadlines until the event I host in summer or autumn next year, which is a very flexible deadline since the event will only start once prep is actually finished.

In January, I’ll be breaking from CC to touch back on Knots and Origin. My draft for the next Knots chapter is really solid and up to 7k words, so I just need to finalize what gets released next chapter and if there’s anything that needs to be pushed off one more. I want to get a Knots chapter out before I start working on any more CC content, and we’ll just go from there!

Oh no I broke my rule against colored backgrounds for fanfic covers

WELL here is Chapter 1 for that AU ‘fic you guys wanted: “Simply Complex”!

In case anyone is new here, Reedfilter Rules AU still complies with Fairly OddParents show canon, but it takes place in a universe where I wasn’t a nerd who infected the Pixies with Wolbachia pipientis to make them reproduce asexually. The worldbuilding is more simple in this ‘verse and some character personalities are tweaked slightly from the way they’re portrayed in my Classic ‘fics.

Chapter 1 introduces us to H.P. before he was H.P., along with showing glimpses of Anti-Cosmo, Rani, and Talon. We’ll see more of them later. Enjoy, nerds!

In Reedfilter Rules AU, Anti-Cosmo develops a crush on H.P. AFTER they start raising a child together instead of before haha what a plot twist

Okay but seriously, Talon still exists in the RR universe. For anyone not in the know about who Talon is in my fanfics, he’s the anti-fairy kid that Anti-Cosmo and H.P. were implied to have raised together in “Fairly Odd Baby” (he appears in Jorgen’s slideshow presentation).

Although Talon is Anti-Cosmo’s son, he’s a big brat who pretty much only listens to H.P., so not much changes there compared to my Classic canon. One notable difference in RR is that Talon isn’t a hypochondriac... Apparently the situation that triggers that character trait never happened in this AU. Hmm...

Talon isn’t an acolyte at the Water Temple in the RR ‘verse since H.P. never knocked it down and rebuilt it in Pixie World, so he just kinda follows H.P. around and has been doing this ever since H.P. still went by Fergus. No it was not easy to seduce Rani with his adopted son regularly on his tail thanks for asking. Yes this does mean Anti-Cosmo was raising his son with the help of a rando pixie who wasn’t even the Head thank you for also asking.

Well... it’s not so much “raising Talon together” as it is Anti-Cosmo dumping his illegitimate son in Pixie World and only coming by when he wants something, but you know what I mean. H.P. doesn’t know who Talon’s other parent is and doesn’t want to know. Obviously this whole situation puts Anti-Cosmo in a terrible spot to confess his growing feelings for the pixie but I guess that’s his hill to die on.
