Clad in pale pink and white, including pale pink Everlast gloves, Rodriguez stopped Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in San Antonio Saturday night to retain his WBC jr bantamweight. Jesse Rodriguez planted himself into the elite level with a stunning stoppage win over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai to defend his WBC World Super-Flyweight title on home soil in San Antonio, Texas, live on DAZN. ‘Bam’ was crowned as the youngest World champion in the sport in February when he landed the WBC strap as a late replacement in San Diego against Mexican king Carlos Cuadras and fighting at home for the first time in four years, the stiffest of tests was in front of him in the form of former World ruler Rungvisai. But there was no fear of the heavy-hitting Thai legend from Rodriguez, who was imperious from first bell to his scintillating finish, dominating from the start before turning the screw at the halfway mark. Rungvisai touched down early in the seventh round from a check left hook and Rodriguez sensed something very special, and put the hurt on the Thai, rocking his head and sinking in bodyshots to underline his deep arsenal. The assault continued in the eighth session and once Rodriguez has his man on the ropes, a blistering barrage saw the referee step in and end matters – ‘Bam’ sinking to the canvas with joy after putting on a hometown clinic against one of the great fighters of the modern day. “My skills proved a point tonight,” said Rodriguez. “My team know what I am capable of and what I bring to the table, that’s why we took the fight. “I felt I started to break him down after three rounds, the power wasn’t there from him. I knew I couldn’t stand there but we came in and put on a show. I was using my angles more, Robert kept telling me to do that and I listened. “The Cuadras fight gave me experience and put me here, fighting at home in San Antonio. I will do whatever Robert says, I am a special fighter not an average fighter and I am here to stay. “San Antonio has a superstar on their hands,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Fighters like this come around once in a generation. You are talking about some of the great fighters in Chocolatito, Juan Francisco Estrada – but can you say that Jesse wouldn’t beat them? “San Antonio should be very proud of this kid. A special talent and it’s all down to the speed that Robert and the team want to go. I think he can unify at any division from 108lbs to 115lbs and he’s got all the tools to become a legend of the sport. He’s a baby, he’s still learning, it was a great turnout tonight and we’re going to get bigger and bigger.” Rodriguez’s win topped an action-packed night in Texas, as Murodjon Akhmadaliev dropped and stopped Ronny Rios in the final round of his defense of his WBA and IBF World Super-Bantamweight titles and Jessica McCaskill blasted away Alma Ibarra in four rounds to remain undisputed at Welterweight. Raymond Ford’s rise continued as he added the IBF North American Featherweight title to his WBA Continental Americas title with a wide ten round points win over Richard Medina, Nikita Ababiy was victorious in his second eight round contest against Noe Larios Jr and 17 year old Jesus Martinez Jrshrugged off a first round knockdown to land a second win in the paid ranks against Kevin Monroy.

#whatshot #djblaze #onthewatch It's All About @210bam vs @srisaket_official #boxing 🔥👆🏿🥊Blaze-Rungvisai came into this bout over confident thinking his superior boxing experience and his well-known power were going to be enough to snatch back the WBC Junior Bantamweight Title from the kid “Bam”, but found out quite early that he heavily miscalculated his approach by getting dominated from the jump.”Bam” came into this bout with a flawless “game plan” and executed it to a “T”. “Bam” boxed and moved beautifully and made the seasoned veteran look pedestrian inside that squared circle. Rungvisai’s lack of a proper “game plan” was quite evident with him being a step behind every time he attempted to land anything at all.”Bam” was too quick and alert inside that squared circle landing heavy shots from head to body from every corner at will round by round. The Kid showed Rungvisai he had some pop in them hands when he dropped him in round seven for a quick 8 count.”Bam” was systematically breaking Rungvisai down as the rounds progressed. It was only a matter time before the inevitable happened and by the eighth round Rungvisai got trapped in the ropes at the receiving end of an onslaught of unanswered punches coming from head to body forcing the referee to jump in to wave off the bout. Unbelievable. If this kid decides to stay in the 115-Pound Division he will definitely be a problem. After taking out two well-seasoned veterans back-to-back with such ease and retaining his newly acquired WBC Junior Bantamweight Belt, ‘Bam” has unquestionably put the Bantamweight Division on notice. Good luck to the competition because this Kid is ready for all the smoke! Congratulations on your win Jesse you’re definitely someone to keep an eye on🔥👆🏿🥊 For more #boxingnews 👉🏿Blazinone.com https://www.instagram.com/p/CfR1CuDuQ2N/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez vs Srisaket Sor Rungvisai - 6/25/2022
If there was a breakout fighter in 2022, it was Bam Rodriguez (18-0, 11 KOs). The 23 year old went 3-0 on the year, beating top ranked super flyweights like Sor Rungvisai, Carlos Cuadras, and Israel Gonzalez. He has since dropped back down to 112lbs in hopes of unifying the titles there. He won the vacant WBO flyweight title earlier this year and has a huge fight ahead of him this week as he is set to face another young standout in Sunny Edwards (20-0).
Bam and Edwards will face off this Saturday (Dec. 16) for the WBO and IBF flyweight titles on DAZN.

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Positioning and opportunity. To set yourself for success in a sport like boxing, you need to put yourself in the proper position, in the ring and outside of the ring. So, when an opportunity arises seemingly out of nowhere, it's important to jump at that opening.
Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez (16-0, 11 KOs) did just that earlier this year when two-time WBC and Ring Magazine champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (50-6-1, 43 KOs) was forced to pull out of a rematch with Carlos Cuadras.
Stepping in his place was the 22-year-old Rodriguez, who was going to challenge Esteban Bermudez for the WBA light flyweight title. Leapfrogging two weight classes, Rodriguez would drop Cuadras in the third en route to a unanimous decision victory and new WBC super flyweight title.
Rodriguez then decided he wanted to defend his title against Rungvisai instead of moving back down in weight. With the Thai fighter coming off the most extended layoff of his career, a 13-year age gap between the two, and most importantly, Rodriguez's skillset, boxing's youngest world champion put on arguably the best performance of 2022.
At the Tech Port Arena in his hometown of San Antonio, Rodriguez completely dominated Rungvisai over eight rounds, scoring the first stoppage loss on the Thai power puncher since the beginning of his career in 2009. It wasn't just that Rodriguez stopped Rungvisai, but how he did it.
Rodriguez used his jab from the southpaw stance from the beginning to keep Rungvisai from getting on the inside. Anytime the former two-time champion crossed the line and got close to Rodriguez, he was hit with left hands. Consistently, the young champion would step to the side after throwing the left hand to strike Rungvisai with right hooks on the inside.
Over the last few years, we have seen Rungvisai get outboxed, specifically in the rematch with Juan Francisco Estrada in 2019. However, what Rodriguez produced was a showcase that highlighted his potential and current stature as quite possibly the best fighter at super flyweight.
As the rounds went by, Rungvisai's body language was one of a fighter who looked like he knew he was in a dire situation. The sixth and seventh rounds were especially brutal for Rungvisai as Rodriguez gained the confidence to be more aggressive. The young champion from San Antonio took the lead, landing a barrage of punches to the body and head.
In the seventh, Rodriguez scored a knockdown that was partially a slip after a punch landed, but signaled the upcoming end of the fight. In the eighth round, Rodriguez punished Rungvisai more to the body, and the Thai fighter began to fight back less and less. Eventually, he was pushed back to the ropes to be bombarded with an assortment of blows.
The referee Mark Calo oy watched closely and stopped the fight at the 1:50 mark, saving Rungvisai from suffering further from the prolonged beat down.
The manner in which Rodriguez won was unexpected by most fans and experts. Many are now curious as to the direction the young fighter takes next. At super flyweight, his brother Joshua Franco holds a version of the WBA title. Rodriguez stated that he would look forward to moving back down in weight to flyweight.
"Im down to do whatever Robert (Head Trainer) says," Rodriguez stated in the post-fight interview with DAZN. "I'm down to face any champion at 112. Anyone that wants it, come and get it. I'm here."
A situation like the Klitschko brothers Wladimir and Vitali could occur at super flyweight with Jesse Rodriguez and Joshua Franco. But for now, the younger brother wants to leave super flyweight for his older sibling to conquer while he handles business a weight class below.
Either way, whatever decision Rodriguez does end up ultimately choosing, the boxing world is officially on notice with a potential new superstar on the rise from San Antonio.
