Prompt 264
Danny squints at his tiny hands, eyes narrowing as Clockwork hums in the kitchen. Which he wasn’t even aware of having been in LongNow. Maybe it wasn’t. He huffed, voice too squeaky for him to continue complaining. Stupid time accidents.
Which wasn’t even starting on the other figure awkwardly sitting at the table.
He glowered at the Ghost King, who kept glancing at him with an unreadable look in their eyes, then looked back towards where Clockwork was. His scowl deepened over his cup of tea- which wasn’t fair, he wanted coffee but nooo, that’s not healthy for ‘little ghostlings’. Ugh.
Sometimes he wished he was fully ghost so he didn’t have to apparently worry about his living body having to grow back up.

The scene before (and during) when HMS became the infamous child-shaker
Send me a scene that happened in canon and I’ll write in detail how my muse felt in it!
I found myself pacing the stone floor. My footsteps echoing in the large space. The only other sound being the loud, rhythmic tick-tocking from above. It was burying into my skull, making it hard to focus on any thoughts.
Tock,
Tick.
Tock.
Link had been gone for a long time now. A cycle had gone by. I could feel it. I knew a time jump when I felt one. While I was prepared to send everything back three days prior, I had waited.  I waited for Link. I knew his previous adventure well enough. The hero who had traveled through time. I almost hadn’t believed it, but I had faith in the legend. And still, I found my nerves fraying with every waiting second.
Tick,
Tock.
Tick,
Tock.
The door to the Clock Tower suddenly opened. I quickly stopped, getting into my usual position and giving my best customer-service smile. I couldn’t let the boy see just how unhinged I was. After all, this was going to be over soon. I had complete faith in Link. The boy had saved Hyrule once, He surely wouldn’t abandon Termina…
Right?
Swallowing the nerves traveling up from inside my stomach, I waited for Link to fully enter the room. In the most earnest voice I could give, I broke the silence.
“Were you able to recover your precious item from that imp?”
There was the smallest hint of a nod from the boy. His deku scrub form, though as stoic as most deku, was surprisingly easy to read. My smile became much more genuine. I was beside myself with excitement. Surely, if he were able to get his precious item, then perhaps…
With a quick motion, I grasped his tiny shoulders and danced about in excitement. My movements shaking his tiny form. My words reflecting my feelings. I felt relieved.
“Oh! Ooh!! Ohhh!!! You got it! You got it! You got it! You got it!”
Unknown to Link, while I was shaking him about, I had flipped a switch in the tower, causing a wall to turn. A grand, and I do mean grand, piano appeared seemly out of nowhere. I was there just as suddenly. My fingers at the keys and seated. For such a feat, the boy certainly deserved his reward.
“Then listen to me.” I began. “Please play this song I am about to perform, and remember it well…”
I tickled the keys lightly, beginning the tune.
“Follow along after me.”
As I expected, Link played the tune well. His horn echoing in the chamber, just as the piano had. As he started, I joined back in. The music laced with a powerful magic. One that would cure this poor boy of his curse.
As Link’s body illuminated the room, I return it to normal. The piano disappearing behind the wall just as it appeared. I waited, wringing my hands nervously. An idea, a taught coming into my mind as I waited. One I was hoping was only paranoia.
The mask hit the floor, breaking me from my thoughts. I gave another wide smile to the boy.
“This is a melody that heals evil magic and troubled spirits, turning them into masks. I am sure it will be of assistance to you in the future. Ah, Yes. I give you this mask in commemoration of this day. Fear not, for the magic has been sealed inside the mask.”
I waiting quietly as he picked up the mask. There was a pause before he slowly smiled widely. He seemed so genuinely happy.
“When you wear it, you will transform into the shape you just were. When you remove it, you will return to normal.”
Just as before, I clasped my hands together tightly. I had a fear for the worst.
“Now, that I have fulfilled my promise to you…”
The mask ignored, I held out my hand expectantly. After all, there was one important thing I needed in return.
“So, please, give me that which you have promised me…”
There was a long pause. My fears building as the silence was filled with that infernal ticking. Once Link’s head hung in shame. I knew. I knew.
Tick,
Tock.
“Don’t tell me…”
Tick,
Tock.
“My Mask…”
Tick,
Tock.
“You did…”
Tick.
Tock.
“get it back… Didn’t you?”
Tick. Tock.
I felt the world around me darken. My vision only tunneling in on Link. It was as I feared. I waited for three days in this musty old tower listening to its sickening rhythm. I hadn’t slept a wink since the boy had left. I could feel the bags under my eyes. My stomach jumped. I wanted to be sick. I wanted to yell. I wanted to throw something. My teeth clenched and before I could rationalize my actions, I had Link by the throat. My large hands clamped around his neck and shoulders.
“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?!!”
I cried, still furiously shaking the boy. I hadn’t thought much about it at the time. Of course, my memory of this part was fairly blurred. I only remember my words. Though, I feel so sure that I had dropped the boy. A careless toss to the ground. My fingers dug into my hair. I wasn’t focused on Link. I hadn’t seen his face, but I’m so sure he must have been terrified. Any reasonable person would have been.
“If you leave my mask out there, something terrible will happen!”
I remember rambling about the mask. Telling Link of its dark history. The history I knew from years of study. About the tribe, the seal, and it’s terrible power. A history that lead to destroying my life, and one that could very well destroy the world.
Majora’s Mask…
That cursed mask.
“But now, that tribe from the legend has vanished, so no one really knows the true nature of the mask’s power.”
As I start to calm, I continue speaking. My hands folded in front of me.
“But I feel it…”
In my sorrow and anger, I hadn’t noticed just how energetic I seemed. I couldn’t my arms still. My hands folded upward, pointing my fingers toward the clockwork in the ceiling; palm against sweating palm.
“I went to great lengths to get that legendary mask… When I finally had it.. I could sense the doom of a dark omen brewing. It was that unwelcoming feeling that makes your hair stand on end.”
I brought my hand up to my face, my other pressed close to my heart. I felt as if I could cry, but chose to hold myself together. But, I suppose, I already appeared insane. I could only have imagined what Link was thinking at the time.
“And now… that imp has it…”
The thought sent another unpleasant shiver down my spine. My stomach was unable to settle. My hands again refusing to stay still, once again moved to tug harshly on my hair.
“I am begging you! You must get that mask back quickly, or something horrible will happen!”
Without a thought of how I might look, I began to bow quickly. A respectful, but possibly pitiful panic to my voice as I pleated. I was so, so very desprate.
“I’m begging you! I’m begging you! You must do it!!”
Link, now standing firmly in place, gave a firm nod toward me. I may have almost cried then. Considering what I had just done to him he still wholeheartedly agreed. I could feel the guilt before, but now, I was practically drowning.
Since I most certainly seemed insane at this point onward, I simply threw on my best customer-service smile.
“Really? You’ll do it for me? I was certain you would tell me that.”
Even if Link was readable, and I sounded so confident, there was a part of me that was thankful Link was still so willing. Oh, to be a hero. Though, perhaps, I thought I should try to encourage him more. If not for Termina, for the hero himself. He certainly had shaken nerves after this encounter. Not that anyone could blame the child. With enthusiasm, I threw my arms out wide.
“You’ll be fine! Surely, you can do it. Believe in your strengths… Believe…”
I held that pose for what felt like a minute before my hands returned to their nervous rubbing state. I didn’t know how else to act, so I stood there silently and awkwardly until the boy left.
Once the door closed behind him, I screamed in anguish and covered my face.
What had I just done?
What in Hylia’s name had I just done?
