heyyyyyy remember when I did that card art analysis back in June for the mafuyu event on the jp server? yeahhhhh totally wouldn't dare attempt that again yeah noooo wayyyy

been staring at these cards all day, so jokes aside, let's dive in! feel free to share insights/opinions, I really want to understand every side of these cards as much as possible....*sobs* I love them so much

From Now On And Forever - Toya Aoyagi

if you have been following my blog, then surely you know that I have been in a frenzy the past couple of days, starting with the untrained art for this toya card. if you didn't already know this was like, THE akitoya event, then this card is how you know. first off, we finally have official art of the boys without their jackets (thank god, Japan gets really hot y'know let them breathe). secondly, THEY'RE DOING THE GAY FIST BUMP THINGY AAAAAAAAA--so proud of them :')))

thirdly, I love how akito is in the trained art as well! it doesn't happen very often that a second character is in trained art (I now have the obligation to dig through all of the trained art that does and post it here lol), so...it really does scream akitoya event! but....about the trained art.....

HOW. and I repeat HOW is toya not like. screaming and clinging to akito for dear life?? (I will draw to make a joke out of this and post it at some point) if you didn't already know, toya is scared as hell of heights, so I find it hilarious that they chose the theme to be high up in the sky...

also, while obviously I need to read a few more of the vbs event stories, I'm curious to know what the broken cage means...is it Toya's freedom to be his own person, and not be forced to play classical music? the ability to be able to sing with his partner that he truly values? Clearly, the boys are sitting in the cage because even if they can leave, they're still in midair (it seems, anyways)....lots to unpack here!

Midnight Making - Kohane Azusawa

aaaah...this kohane card is so cute......wheqgfqygufhijo it's rare to see kohane in glasses....AND WITH HER HAIR DOWN TOO! she looks so different...and kaito there while she dozes off is a cute touch :D the pink theme is really nice as well, considering that untrained art never really has a theme compared to other's in the set, this one is really pleasing, in my opinion...

now. now. the trained art is absolutely stunning--she looks even cuter in this one, which I didn't know what possible...kohane's innocent little face, looking up at the birds...

OH YEAH. THE BIRDS. so in toya's(+ akito if we're being technical) and kaito's trained cards, the birds are black. (crows, maybe?) but in an and kohane's, the birds are white (doves, most likely). surely, there has to be a deeper meaning to this, right? when you take a second to look it up, no matter what species, white birds are always pure and represent everything good. but black birds are typically the opposite...but I found it interesting that they could represent "change". maybe it'll make more sense when some translations come out for this event, but hmmm....

also, I love kohane's bucket hat. so much. she wears one in a few card cameos + one three star I think (I will now make a collection of this and post it dw), and it's just soooo cuuutteeeeeeee! they really know how to make her look adorable, huh?

You're Particular, Aren't You? - KAITO

damn, I never thought I might become a kaito simp, but this might be the turning point. the untrained art is cute, obviously I don't have context for what's going on there, but seeing street sekai kaito all confident always makes me laugh...I love how rain and meiko are just there. in shock. at whatever is going on. dang it I really need those story translatioooooons--

the TRAINED art is what I can't stop looking at, which is expected. kaito is just standing there and he looks amazing iwqfuhgqeojpwjfie

it's interesting thought, as he isn't in a cage, but on solid ground, near... construction? there's clearly some stairs there, so he appears to be high up...it looks like the empty sekai, if you look closely. strange...

and again, there are the black birds, which surely symbolize something...I just can't put my finger on what, exactly. this whole set just looks really pleasing, I'm not sure what else to say lol

Nuanced Language - An Shiraishi

ah yes, the three-star card. I swear, three-star cards never disappoint, do they? they always look just as incredible as the four-star ones...

for the untrained art, I like the atmosphere a lot, for some reason! it's nice seeing An do things that you'd expect one to do while working...it's simple, it's cute...what else do I need to say?

the trained art, ofc is super pretty... she doesn't appear to be in a cage, like KAITO, but she still seems rather high up. when I saw this card, it made me wonder if all the characters are looking at something in particular...like say, if An was looking up to Kohane...

it's also interesting how she is holding flowers, could that be a reference to the last vbs event? are the birds, like, going to carry them up to Kohane, like how people spectated that Akito's and Toya's art was related in some way for the previous event? I'll never know...

also. An in a hat. not just any hat, but....qjwhfvhaihdfvjkwafefe hang on lemme get over the heart attack I'm currently experiencing right now--

How To Spend Our Days Off - Akito Shinonome

ah yes. YOU. the one who's been part of all of the chaos...this card is what fully convinced me that this event is a "snazzy jazzy" one.

don't ask how I came up with that. I don't know either.

I'm honestly really happy about the card line-up this time around. For the past two Toya focused events, it was with Akito and An both being in the Gacha (and in the same places too, mind you). so having them both in the shop was actually relieving. and Akito did get to be in the trained art!!! WITH TOYA!!!! so it all works out.

there's probably a lot more I could say, but I didn't want this to sit in my drafts for much longer...enjoy my ramblings uwegfyuewfiew :)

I think i do agree with that anon about aerith being an oudated heroine and tifa is nowadays heroine tifa is realistic badass she doesn’t rely on magic from a stick she trained hard day and night so she can get where she is right now where aerith lives in a wonderful sector taken care off when she become an orphan she didn’t lose that many people in her life even the people who’s supposed to be her enemy treat her well bottom line is she lives like and is treated like a princess (1)

Yes her and her mom were taken and were done experiments on them but can you compare what they gone through on what happened to cloud & zack and just when you want to feel sorry for her i remember i played OG first i didn’t like how she got her way with everyone but then CC got released and i was like seriously girl you BF was killed tragically and you got busy on chasing a guy you barely knew and created a dumb rivalry with the a girl who befriended you out of kindness (2)

When i knew her real story she become more meh to me and started to see how the devs seem to ignore her flaws just because she’s their golden heroine, she always got promoted more than tifa it was really unfair how tifa got treated despite tifa having her own role in the game as a heroine but they only seemed to care about aerith because oh she die,in remake i got reminded again why i don’t like her when she assumed that cloud in love with her 🙄”this girl is so full of herself “me at her (3)

It's curious that when I was watching the making of Remake they never referred to Aerith as a heroine. She's a main character, but Cloud, Tifa and Barret are too. Nojima said he took care with her lines because they're important. Tbf, it makes her sound more like a plot device. She's someone who pushes the overall plot forward, which we see in part one, but she doesn't seem to push the character development forward. If anything, her behaviour towards Cloud forced his development back because he retreated further into that soldier persona around her. He wants to keep his distance because he's suspicious of her, for good reason, and it's even alluded to in the ultimania that the only reason he's sticking around is he's suspicious of her, but Aerith keeps getting in his face which he doesn't like. So, Cloud's trying to find a balance between figuring out Aerith's deal and staying the hell away from her, so ofc he ends up sounding awkward af.

Tifa’s trained her butt off and actually it says in Crisis Core she's got a natural talent for martial arts, which mirrors Cloud's natural talent with a sword.

My teacher tells me I've got a knack for it.

Tifa’s 15 at this point and if she's only just started training then in the span of 5 years she's turned into an expert. She slays. Fact. She's probably on the same level as Cloud since he got some mandetory training at Shinra and was noted in BC he had skills. So, Cloud's had 2 years of formal weapons training, and then he's using Jenova's mimicking to fight like Zack and Sephiroth. Later in AC he'll develop his own dual wield style, so Cloud and Tifa are talented, but also hard workers.

Aerith has magical cetra powers that don't require anything but communing with the planet 😑

The lifestream infuses the water that's in this river, too, so that explains why the flowers grow so well and why there's a pool of water in AC.

Tifa grew up in a ruined dust bowl of a town and despite the fact her dad is the village chief, which gives her a certain amount of comfort, she suffered a lot of hardship as a kid, though it's "normal" hardship till Sephiroth appears.

With how Remake's showing us the mistakes people made about OG, I don't think Aerith was interested in Cloud romantically. She treats Cloud like a child in AC.

Cloud calls Aerith mother. Aerith says she doesn't want a big kid like Cloud. Zack reiterates there's no place for Cloud with them.

So, yeah, I'd say the type of affection between them is more like a parent/child dynamic than romantic. It's only in dismantled and maiden that romantic love is referred to and neither is canon.

Tifa gets just as much fan service as Aerith. Probably more. She also gets promoted in interviews and ads more than Aerith. Of all the 7r promotions I've noticed it's Tifa who gets the most narratively relevant promos. The 7r ad with the new logo included an important scene for Tifa that refers to the later scene on top of the Shinra building that references the promise and also mirrors Cloud's own history with her. It's really a matter of knowing the story and understanding what's being shown. Aerith's scenes are always that red dress, which is fan service (it literally has fans in it) and part of the concept of illusion vs reality. Aerith in her red dress vs Tifa saving Cloud.

People get too focused with the surface and not the bigger story implications. Cloud having made the promise with Tifa and recalling it in chapter 4 means that sooner or later he'll wind up in the lifestream with her where he confesses he always wanted her to notice him.

And I think it's important to realise that Aerith isn't actually aware of everything that's going on in Remake. She's got some knowledge of OG events, but not everything is the same.

In OG, Aerith gave Cloud the flower and walked off. So, in Remake, she sounds confident Cloud's not being hunted because she never saw him being chased by public security since it happened after she left. But, the whispers appeared, meaning Cloud was probably on time to catch the train and not be forced to make a dramatic leap from the bridge, so they forced him to hang around long enough until public security caught up with him.

This is something Aerith couldn't have known because it's not in OG. It's the same with things she wasn't around to see in OG. She never would've seen alone at last, the train roll or anything before Cloud fell through the church roof. After that point, she's using OG as her guide for how to behave with him. And it's failing. It's why she's surprised when he gets mad at her. It's why she says no one will get mad if they make noise, because of the OG rooftop laugh that isn't present in Remake. Aerith in Remake isn't aware of all the advice Cloud's already got from people in sector 7, or the fact he's much more proactive in his affection with Tifa. So, even if she tries to delude herself that he's like Zack (and during the slide scene the GER translation states Cloud reminds her of Zack, not that they're the same rank) Cloud's not playing ball with her. His focus is already Tifa, so Aerith's behaviour during her resolution from his pov makes her look as desperate as Jessie. In JP he comments how one sided her words were like it's a joke she made. In ENG he's referring to the fact that she doesn't listen to him. At all. Ever. Cloud’s opinion doesn't matter to Aerith, and the same is true now because she echoes Cloud's own high affection HW scene line from OG about it being nearly morning. So, indirectly, she's telling the audience what Cloud's choice is.

Yeah, from one angle it just looks so arrogant to act like anyone would fall in love with her so quickly, but Nojima even said he kept the line that way because it could be interpreted like that. It's a comparison behaviour to Sephiroth's arrogance, which also ties in to Cloud being suspicious of her.

This is why they say this game isn't for kids lol

I cannot stress enough this, but I remember a post from the past few days that basically mentions that “Matsui” “stated” that a ship in their series is not “endgame” on Twitter...

...except that that damn twitter account is not even an official one. Heck, I’m pretty sure he isn’t even very English fluid in the first place? Pretty fishy and shady if you ask me.

...Especially if the account only has like 14 tweets, 128 followers, and had been inactive since late 2016.

The only tweets in JP the account even liked (and this is mostly according to my online translators AND even the BING one) are about a discussion about Korea’s unification possibilities? What? What does have to do with what...

They claim that they were “hacked” and had like 19k followers... except that I’m certain that Matsui never used Twitter.

I follow some authors on Twitter (WSJ manga authors like Asou Shuiichi, Shinohara Kenta, and Usuta Kyousuke for example), and they usually either follow their assistants’ team, their editors, the official PR accounts for their manga series, friends in the same freaking industry, sometimes the anime staff’s official account, or their anime’s voice actors, etc. But this guy doesn’t? Why people don’t suspect even a bit on that?

Even their bios may say more specific stuff about them and their works which may add credibility, just to take example from Shinohara’s:

漫画家です。少年ジャンププラスで「彼方のアストラ」連載中。2007年～2013年「SKET DANCE」連載。2015年「バトルスピリッツ烈火魂」キャラクターデザイン。

I know authors can get into the Twitter game so late, to make some presence on social media (Shinohara ended Sket Dance in 2013, but he really didn’t entered into Twitter until Kanata no Astra started being published online... and heck, it was because he was FORCED to, as fans asked too many SukeDan questions on the Astra one -as it is managed by his working team-). Not all of them do that, and prefer to choose a certain team of “agency” or a manager that is close to the author because they don’t want or cannot spend time on social media (case in point, Araki Hirohiko’s twitter account).

Heck, if we go more technical about more credibility, the anime and manga accounts. On certain ocassions they MIGHT RETWEET whatever the original authors mention about them, being mostly announcements. In the two years I have followed the AnK*you related accounts, they have NEVER mentioned an “@” response to that account if the account was “hacked” in the fist place. Because sometimes, it either still links to it, or it becomes unaccessible leaving the original link in the @ mention inexistant. (I have been almost a decade on Twitter, I know what I see, lol).

The lack of official accounts following each other should have risen red flags but the BAFFLING one is the VERY ENGLISH FLUENCY that should have set alarms everywhere, to be honest 👀. And I’m pretty sure that’s why most people would simply ignore it (ignored enough that only 128 people do not know it’s a fake account? wow... lmao). The timing of the creation of the account seems fit accordingly to Matsui’s presence on last year NY Comic Con, which let me tell you, IIRC, the panels he was guest used mod translators???

So.

The only reason someone may have posted that thing was certainly because the last Kor*otan novel has shiptease to Na*isa and Kay*no, and they are salty that it isn’t certain other pair around *rolls eyes*, just to validate that it “will never be endgame”. Especially if the novel’s side is endorsed by now that Matsui has given it a bless as he supervised it and mentioned it COULD BE considered official canon material.

Thing is... (and this is what I liked about the manga’s ending), he never really went into saying that some pairings were endgame as other of his contemporaries that got their series also finished during the past year (heck, it was pretty chill on this side??? WOW). The gaps are pretty much open to interpretation, because that was never the intention of the series in the first place, and the ending (not the bonus chapters in GA, mind you) got them in different places than being involved in canonical relationships (a.k.a. most of them were still searching for jobs! Worrying about romantic relationships? Nope! (although Har*a was curious about Kay*no because... what else she would do as “mom” of the class?). The most canonical thing was Ch*iba and Ha*yami on their bonus chapter, and that was pretty much it? The rest was shiptease.

I know people in some factions are kinda still onto that “OMG! DOES THIS MEAN THAT KAY*NO IS PREGNANT” because there is still that mistranlation of certain “we-do-not-care-about-this” MS quick translation and that aggregators mostly picked it up (also somewhat sure other languages’ scanlations did too) instead of the more closest M20 accurate one. Salty or not, considering what canon implies too... (And some symbolism that Matsui never really explained, like that one in the train station... which was THANKFULLY not mentioned in the anime).

To be honest, sure, even if the novel’s story is canonical, it is also somewhere between their graduation and the actual ending of the series. Even if it’s purely shiptease, realistically speaking, Na*isa would be oblivious as hell about that at the end... and there’s still too much that can happen in a five-four year time gap. OR post-canon. Let the Na*ikae fans have their fun with some canonical material?? And not being salty over that...??

...especially if the other ship has been over my throat all this damn time (and Le*che didn’t help). But... that’s my personal opinion on that.

TL;DR- That account this specific user wanted to prove as “yep, they aren’t endgame because the creator said so ;)” is fake AF. That is searching validation in the wrong places with the wrong sources. Especially if Matsui never went and said “yep, they are/aren’t endgame” with ANY of his pairings (with few exceptions, and one which was more obvious than the others), most of them (including info provided from the GA profiles) are still catalogued as shiptease.

But what you would do, am I right?

One tip though, if you are uncertain that “x” o “y” manga author have a Twitter account, and suddenly find they have one in English or any other language they are supposed to be not well very fluid into.... there’s a 200% chance they are fake.
