I am physically incapable of not shipping "two guys [gender neutral] who spent significant formative years [childhood to teens] being trapped in the worst, most crushingly inescapable slog of an oppressive and dangerous environment while relying only on each other to not fucking crack under the pressure" like that specific dynamic I am literally unable to not ship with the fiery heat of a thousand suns.

Sapphics: I want an enemies to lovers arc
Sapphics when the characters act like enemies: no not like that!
Like seriously, the hells wrong with some of y’all? Catradora were literally at war with one another and with the current power dynamics in the show Catra couldn’t just drop whatever she was doing and play for the other team. Especially once s3 happens and Shadow Weaver ends up in Brightmoon. How do I know this? Cause we already got our answer once she popped back up in s5. The only plus side would be Catra seeing through the bs that was Glimmers behavior in s4 (speaking of which, “Glimmradora was healthier” people need to get off your high horse cause she treated Adora JUST as poorly in s4 basically saying “hey you’re only here cause you’re sometimes useful to us” ok I can’t start talking about this cause I’ll get sidetracked by getting angry. Moving on)
And it’s outright boggling to me that sapphics will cry out “we want enemies to lovers” until they ACT like Actual Enemies. Cause the truth is you don’t want enemies, you never did. And the reblogs on my last post only prove my point on the matter cause while Amity and the others of the Boiling Isles grew up under strickt rule by Belos and their parents it wasn’t War. That’s what we gotta keep in mind here. Catra and Adora grew up as child soldiers in an army however Adoras mind want fully loyal so when she saw what the Horde was doing and needed to ditch her ideologies she abandoned them. However, Catra saw that as a “Im leaving because of you” kinda deal no matter how the latter claimed the opposite.
Another thing i find Absolutely Hysterical is that y’all will bash Catra then immediately turn around and praise Zuko’s character even though they had practically the same character arc “Zuko didn’t do things as bad” eh did we Forget he helped Azula take over the Earth kingdom at the end of s2 and Aang would have died if it weren’t for Katara’s magic water (plus Several other things?all I’m saying is that Y’all don’t remember pre-redemption Zuko as well as ya think ya do) but I’m getting sidetracked here. Im probably gonna talk more about this comparison later hell I might go rewatch ATLA and take notes on this.
If you don’t like “enemies to lovers” Whatever. Don’t ship it. I honestly don’t care it’s Your shipping preferences. But for gods sake don’t get pissy when enemies act like enemies cause it’s exhausting for those of us who do enjoy it watching your little screaming matches while trying to find content. 🤦‍♀️
(Im probably gonna also bring up Caitvi at some point cause even they don’t truly fall into enemies to lovers but that’s for another time)
(And one more thing: a lot of people claim Glimmers “I love you” came out of nowhere but it was in very much the same vein as Catra’s “Im sorry for everything” as in “I may never see you again, so make this last meeting count”. Yk? Ok NOW I’m done)

The fact that apparently these 2 started out as borderline sisters/seeing themselves as sisters before being paired off makes this Worse
Dear anon,
Firstly, I want to state that I know that this topic has been extensively debated in this community, so I want to say 2 important things:
1. If you disagree with what I have to say, that is totally understandable! I completely respect your opinion!
2. Please please please don’t send me any additional messages regarding this topic. I had an uncomfortable experience when I wrote this analysis because I have a sibling. So I’m really sorry but I won’t be responding to anymore messages regarding this topic. If you’d like to share your opinion on this topic, please by all means share your opinion in the comments section! But I’d really like to refrain from talking about this topic further.
Alright, so I think that this discussion is revolving around the topic of incest.
Incest describes any sexual relations between members of a family. While the strictest definition of the term applies only to those who are closely related, incest may also refer to sexual intercourse between family members who are not blood-related, such as step-siblings or cousins by marriage.
So what I want to highlight first is that there seems to be 2 definitions for incest:
1. Sexual relations between relatives that are blood-related.
2. Sexual relations between family members who are not necessarily blood-related, such as step-siblings, cousins by marriage, adopted siblings, foster siblings, etc.
So if you consider incest by the first definition, Catradora would not be considered incest.
However, if you consider incest by the second definition, then, the discussion is much more complicated.
Firstly, I just want to state that I was conflicted for some time about this topic.
Initially, I did see some good points that explained why Catra and Adora should not be considered siblings:
1) The people in the Horde are raised as soldiers in a type of militaristic boarding school/orphanage environment.

2) The scene where Adora and Catra danced together. I personally didn’t find that scene romantic because Adora was so uncomfortable. But I also wouldn’t dance like that with my sibling.
Tumblr media
However, I feel that Shadow Weaver raising both Adora and Catra for their entire lives is a huge issue.
Throughout the show, there are a number of scenes that present how Shadow Weaver raised Catra and how Shadow Weaver is Catra’s maternal figure:

The main bits that I’d like to point out:
- “I’ve learned everything from you.”
- “I was a child when you took me in.”
- “You made me this way.”
- How Catra scooches over to Shadow Weaver almost like a child.
- How Shadow Weaver plays with Catra’s hair and caresses Catra’s face. Then, Catra touching that side of her face.
From the show, the dialogue definitely confirms that Shadow Weaver has raised Adora and how Shadow Weaver is Adora’s maternal figure:

The main bits I’d like to point out:
- The use of the word “raise”.
- The fact that Shadow Weaver calls Adora “my child”.
- The last scene. Honestly, I feel like the last scene really shows how Adora comes to this realization that Shadow Weaver was her mother. An abusive mother, but a mother nevertheless.
Even on the wiki Fandom page, there is supporting evidence that presents Shadow Weaver as Catra’s and Adora’s “mother figure”.

The show does also demonstrate that Adora and Catra were close while growing up in the Horde:

Moreover, Catra and Adora grew up together in the Horde and were raised by the same “mother figure”. Thus, in my opinion, the show does present Catra and Adora as sisters by bond. And for me, Catradora is considered incest (based on the second definition).
In addition, I wanted to present two important findings while doing this analysis:
Firstly, the person who voiced Catra did compare Catra’s and Adora’s relationship to her own relationship with her sister (starts at 1:00).
Secondly, I found this confession by someone who is an adopted sibling:
Tumblr media
I feel that something is wrong when a person who is an adopted sibling feels sick because of Catradora. In addition, Catradora shouldn’t make this person feel like they don’t belong in their family. That is truly heartbreaking.
But I again want to say that if you disagree with my opinions, that is okay and totally understandable!
However, I think it is important to discuss this confession (source) :
Tumblr media
Recall that the show’s target audience is children. Thus, if a child did not easily conclude that Catra and Adora were not siblings, then, the writing is ultimately poor.
In conclusion, I really do respect everyone’s opinion on this topic.
But I think that there’s a real problem with the writing when a child concludes that Catra and Adora are siblings.
Thank you very much for sharing.
