May 20th-May 26th, 2020 Reader Favorites Archive
The archive for the Reader Favorites chat that occurred from May 20th, 2020 to May 26th, 2020.  The chat focused on the following  question:
How do you personally keep track of everything you read?
carcarchu
for western webcomics i Don't unless i read them on tapas or webtoons where it saves my place. otherwise if it's something i really love i'll leave it in a tab indefinitely saving my spot. for eastern webomics i religiously update my reading history on anilist or MU
Eilidh (Lady Changeling)
I uh
Don't
Capitania do Azar
I keep RSS feeds on things I absolutely must not forget and also keeping up with people's twitters
tho twitter is a very unstable way to get update notifications because things get lost real fast
but RSS never really failed me
chalcara [Nyx+Nyssa]
Bookmarks. If a comic goes onto my reading list, it goes into my bookmarks. I used to do RSS but that habit died with google reader.
RebelVampire
A mix of memory and Archive Binge (https://archivebinge.com/). Although these days probably more the former just because I have so little time for any reading I only do in bulk to the point I'll usually remember where I left off since I fortunately have a pretty good memory once I read a few pages. That being said, I have been considering switching to RSS feeds just for convenience, but time has really gotten in the way of me doing that as well. XD
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
...Poorly
Unless I get an email notification about it, or see an update on Twitter, I usually forget about the comic for a while. But the good news is, when I do remember, there are often many new pages to come back to. Like a mini binge!
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
I'm really bad at it, which is why I typically read comics on host sites like Webtoon, Tapas, etc. (Sorry all you personal website peeps!) I make very rare exceptions, because it's just too difficult for me to keep track of all the websites and all the new pages. The only other way that I can keep track is if I'm in the Discord server for a particular comic. If personal sites had easy to find email subscription buttons or something though, I'd probably be able to keep track better.
keii’ii (Heart of Keol)
Mailing list for "finished this chapter!" emails sounds reasonable. So you only get it every chapter.
Though for people who do longer chapters, maybe "finished this scene" emails might be a better option.
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
I don't mind page by page updates, but I might be one of the few that does a pretty good job of remembering what happened every page. But yeah! Email updates would so help me since I my email alerts my phone, so I can check important stuff (and comics) right away if I want to.
keii’ii (Heart of Keol)
I personally wouldn't want email for every new page for every comic I follow
I also don't mind page by page updates, but for email, it's different.
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
I usually just keep the tab open for them on my Chrome....but most of the comics I read are from tapas/webtoons. However.....getting email updates would honestly flood my inbox, so I probably wouldn't want that
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
I mean, my inbox is already flooded with BS, lol. If you've ever bought something online or made an account anywhere, your inbox will be flooded, so it's really a minor inconvenience for me.
Also, you wouldn't be required to get email updates if you don't want them, but the option would be nice
keii’ii (Heart of Keol)
Email for "every comic you follow that updated today" could work, like if a site like archivebinge could work that out.
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Oh that would be lovely
FeatherNotes(Krispy)
Honestly i like that idea too!
keii’ii (Heart of Keol)
I mean I guess we already have something close -- just bookmark AB and go there
But an email feature would definitely simplify it for many folks
DanitheCarutor
Oh man, I use public hosting sites, Discord and Twitter, which isn't the best for stand-alone site comics. Every so often I bookmark a comic I plan on reading, but then I always totally forget about it. There are a couple comics I remember every blue moon like Sister Claire or that comic about a Mexican Catholic kid trading his soul to summon a demon, or something, but then I end up forgetting where I left off... <_<' I heard using an RSS feed is good, but I'm pretty particular about stuff being in my inbox, if I get emails for a bunch of comics I'll probably just get annoyed. Lol
mariah (rainy day dreams)
Oh, yeah, that Archive Binge email idea is great or even like, what updated this week instead of just today. I also use bookmarks. And also I just have a million comics to start open in tabs. I do now have the Webtoon app so I can follow a handful of comics that don't have they're own site, but my preference is definitely for homesites. Maybe I'm just an old lady in that respect TuT I also usually read in little binges, but I also follow creators on Twitter/Instagram so I can see when those page updates post. I'll be honest, I don't really understand how RSS works X') I assume it somehow pings you when a site updates, but the mechanics of it I just don't know. But I definitely do have an RSS feed enabled on my site because I know some people use it.
Erin Ptah (BICP | Leif & Thorn)
RSS just works like any website where you subscribe to accounts and read a feed with the updates -- Twitter, Tumblr, blogs, whatever. Except that it isn't limited to a specific website, it's universal. You get one RSS-reading app and it can subscribe to any feed from anywhere.
Mine combines a couple different blogs, comics, podcasts, new fics posted in AO3 tags, and at least one Deviantart gallery. (Back in the day I put a couple of tumblrs on it, before I took the plunge and signed up with tumblr...)
Although for webcomics I use a combination of Archive Binge and ComicRocket. (If one of them isn't getting the updates for a specific comic, I follow it on the other one.)
Joichi [Hybrid Dolls]
I agree with LadyLazuli, if it wasn't for my Webtoon, Tappytoons & Tapas comic apps, it's hard to keep track elsewhere. I also rely on comic related discord channels or I watch for banners to show up to remind me to check out the comic series. Likewise, I want to get some sort of fun memo pad reminder to 'check up this series'. Another good source I love is Webcomic Library https://tagpacker.com/user/webcomic.library Luma did a great job categorizing them so it's easy to find titles with genres I'm interested in(edited)
sierrabravo (Hans Vogel is Dead)
yesss Webcomic Library!! they're so great

Expect the Unexpected Pt 2
Yay! Installment 2 for @igcorweek. A wild Nyx and Gladio make an appearance.
Rating: somewhere between G &T
words: 1019
tags: @asoeiki
Ignis follows the conditions in the contract flawlessly and quickly. While he enjoys his side jobs, he is glad for the extra breathing room. He also provides Cor with a budget, which Cor completely ignores and still puts way too much money into his account. He isn’t sure how the older got his bank information, but chalks it up to him being a leader in the tech world. There’s probably no information that Cor can’t find. The only thing that really bothers him is that is doesn’t know very much about his benefactor. When he checks in every week, they only talk about Ignis.
“Specs,” Noctis pokes him in the arms, “you are zoning out on us again.”
Ignis rubs the spot, “My apologies. I didn’t sleep well last night.” It’s true. Caffeine withdrawal is a bitch, but he’s slowly kicking the habit. He’s down to three cups of coffee a day. While it wasn’t apart of the contract, Cor has mentioned it no less than eleven times in the month since this started.
“Maybe you should go try and get a nap before class,” Prompto suggests while Noctis plays with the fingers on the blonde’s free hand.
That’s a new development, or just maybe one Ignis hasn’t had the time to notice before. So much is different now. He studies at the library with the two boys three times a week and sometimes even catch dinner or a movie. He isn’t struggling to meet deadlines anymore either. He’s enrolled in a cooking class to brush up on his skills.
Ignis’ first formal event with Cor is coming up as well. Despite Ignis questioning him about it multiple times, Cor just says it’s taken care of and not to worry about it.
So, no, Ignis isn’t going to be able to sleep, but maybe a walk would help him clear his thoughts. He says as much to his study partners before packing his things and exiting the library. His new, top of the line phone, also from Cor, buzzes with an email. His next and final class of the day is canceled, so Ignis decides to head back to his dorm after all.
***
Cor is sitting at his desk when Nyx unceremoniously flops on the couch, nursing a hangover. Cor has zero sympathy for him. This happens every Monday.
Nyx parties too hard the night before and comes into work the next day, acting like the world is ending. Today he decides that riling up Cor is in order. “So, how’s jalbait?”
Cor throws a water bottle at his head, which Nyx catches effortlessly. “His name is Ignis and he is well above age. Besides, I’m just his benefactor.”
“Which is code for he used his good looks to charm you out of your money.” Nyx holds his hand open, waiting patiently for Cor to give him aspirin.
“I ought to let you suffer or fire you. You are more trouble than you’re worth,” Cor tosses him the bottle of medicine.
“You love me and think I’m awesome. I’m the one that suggested the website in the first place. You wouldn’t have met jailbait if not for me.”
“Stop calling him that,” Cor smacks the back of Nyx’s head.
“Ow! Jeez! Fuck! It was a joke,” Nyx rubs the sore spot on head. “Are you going to bring him to the launch party?”
“Yes. It’s part of the agreement.”
Nyx takes the medication and then studies Cor. “What’s wrong? Are you regretting all of this?”
“No,” Cor shakes his head, “it’s just that he asks so many questions. He wants to know everything about me.”
“He’s curious. That’s natural. I mean you know practically everything about him, down to his blood type. Of course, he wants to know about you. Why don’t you take him out for a casual get to know you dinner?”
“You mean a date.”
Nyx gives Cor his best shit eating grin, “Well I hear that’s what the kids call it these days.”
***
Gladio stretches his large frame on Ignis’ bed, watching as Ignis searches through his closet. “Why does it have to be this particular shirt? Any shirt you have will make the same impression.”
Ignis pushes his glasses to sit properly on his nose, “It will not make the same impression. It has to be the green one, Gladiolus.”
Gladio winces at the use of his full name. Ignis only uses it when frustrated or nervous. But it always sounds hot in Ignis’ accented voice.
He keeps searching, “Aha! Found it.” He tugs off the tshirt and shrugs on the emerald green shirt, working the buttons as he exits the closet.
“I don’t know why you agreed to this. This is a lot of conditions for a scholarship.”
“The dinner is not a part of the terms. My benefactor has agreed to answer some questions,” Ignis rolls his sleeves to his elbows, “I’ve been trying to find out information about him for weeks. Also, you sound jealous.”
Gladio crosses his arms in front of his chest. “I’m not jealous, but you are dressing like this is a date.”
The two of them tried dating in high school, but it didn’t work out. Ignis loves Gladio, he just isn’t “in love” with him. Ignis can acknowledge that his very small, very insignificant crush on Cor might be clouding his good judgement. However, he isn’t in the mood to deal with a jealous Gladio.
“Gladio, this man has paid for enough that I can go to dinner with him. I felt that his terms were fair and I can back out at any time without consequences. I know it makes you uncomfortable, but I need you to trust me on this.”
The bigger man sits up, “I do trust you, Iggy. It’s him I don’t trust. I don’t want him to treat you like some arm candy.”
Ignis give him a small smile and kisses his forehead. “While I appreciate that you think I’m pretty enough to be arm candy, I assure you, it will be fine. Now, leave so I can finish getting ready.”

He found out- Promptis Fan Week Day 6
So this was something differently before but I didn’t love it so I changed into this. I hope you like it and yes, it’s a continuation from Getting Caught. Desperation/Apology
“No, dad! Listen to me…you can’t do that, Dad please!...Fine, then I guess you lost your son, I hate you!” Noctis threw his phone against the wall, hearing the screen crack but he could care less. He was brimming with anger and hurt and…God, how did it end up like this? How did he find out before Noctis was ready?
Noctis was bi. Usually he didn’t care what people thought about him, it was just he never mentioned it to family and so many bad relationship were they said being bi wasn’t real, made him freeze at the thought of saying anything. He wanted to be sure the people he told would accept him and most importantly in that group was his dad. His mom died when he was a kid and while his dad was usually busy with work, it was just him and Noctis. He was the only family he had left and he didn’t want him to hate him because of how he identified.
His boyfriend, Prompto – oh sweet, amazing Prompto – had been so understanding when Noctis asked to keep their relationship a secret. He was not ashamed of it but he didn’t want to spring it on the people that didn’t know.
“I get it Noct, trust me. I’m fine keeping it quiet until you’re ready to tell your dad. I promise.” Not to say there weren’t times Prompto got frustrated, Noctis did too, but the fear kept him from saying it when he wanted to. With all the times he and Prompto almost got caught making out, his frustration was starting to build over his fear. He wanted his dad and his friends to know he was in a relationship with an amazing guy. He had built up the courage to finally tell his dad when he had called him. He found out, he didn’t know how, but he did. He told Noctis that if he didn’t break up with Prompto and stop ‘this pointless façade’, he’d pull Noctis from school.
To say he was anger was an understatement and to say he was upset and hurt? He got the thing he feared most from his father, what else was he supposed to do?
He needed to see Prompto.
He grabbed his jacket and keys and ran out of his room. He almost crashed into Nyx, his roommate but didn’t stop to say anything, even with Nyx yelling after him. Prompto lived on the other side of campus where the other art students roomed, since it was much closer to where most of their classes were.  It felt like a blur but he was finally at Prompto’s single, knocking on the door furiously.
“I’m coming! Calm down!” Prompto swung the door open, looking annoyed but that disappeared at the sight of his boyfriend. “Noct, what’s wrong? What’s the matter?”
Maybe it was all the hurt boiling over, but Noctis felt his eyes fill with tears. Prompto was quick to take his face in his hands, asking him what was wrong. He didn’t say anything and just held Prompto tight when he pulled him into a hug.
Eventually they migrated onto Prompto’s bed, where Noctis hid his face into the blonde’s neck, still holding him close. He hadn’t said anything yet, still crying silently, but Prompto ran his fingers through his hair, whispering that he’d be ok. Finally the tears stopped and after holding on for a bit more, he pulled himself off of Prompto, essentially straddling him.
Prompto helped him wipe away tears. “Are you ok?” Noctis shook his head. “Do you wanna talk about it?” he shrugged. “Ok, well I’m here if you need anything ok? Come here, I wanna hold you more.” Noctis wiped at his face again, before leaning down and lying back on Prompto, feeling safe in his arms.
“He found out.” Noctis eventually said.
“Your dad?” Noctis nodded. “How? I mean, you didn’t tell him already did you?”
“No, I was going to. We planned on having dinner this weekend and I was going to do it then, but he called me and told me that he didn’t want me living a façade. I don’t know how he found out, but he didn’t accept me, so it doesn’t matter anymore.”
“Noct.” Prompto said, sounding like he wanted nothing more than to do something but he didn’t know what.
“I’m not going to do it though.”
“Hmm?”
“He told me he wanted me to break up with you. I’m not going to do it.”
“Well, that makes me feel better, but what are you going to do about you dad?”
“I don’t know or care. I’m tired of being scared. I’ll tell Iggy and Gladio but not now. I just want to stay here longer.”
“You do that.”
Telling Ignis, Gladio, Nyx and Luna was scary but after losing his father’s favour, he didn’t want to hide it anymore. Honestly, he didn’t know why he was so scared after he told them and they all accepted him.
“We understand why you didn’t say anything, but we are glad you told us. I’m just sorry it had to be because of what your father said.” Ignis told him after he explained the whole situation.
He had been ignoring calls from his dad, deleting emails, ignoring the messages that Gladio had been instructed to pass on to him from his own father.
“Look Noct, I know you don’t want to talk to him but just state your case to him. He’s your old man and he’s the only one you got left.” Gladio tried reasoning with him.
“And what if your dad didn’t accept you? Told you to break your relationship with Ignis off, what would you have done?” Noctis pointed out. Gladio couldn’t argue with that.
It didn’t mean he didn’t miss him. It was his dad, who did everything he could to make Noctis happy. But now just he could stay happy with Prompto he had to ignore his dad. Prompto could see it and tried convincing him to at least talk to his dad, but Noctis refused.
It had been a few weeks since his dad found out and he cut all contact with him. Noctis was in his room studying waiting for dinner to roll around so he could finally finish for the day when someone knocked on the door. Nyx, who was also studying in the room, pulled off his headphones and went to the door.
“Hello Nyx.” That voice. Noctis lifted his head and saw past Nyx’s shoulder to see a familiar bearded face. “Is Noctis here?”
“Uh…” Nyx looked over his shoulder to where Noctis was sitting on his bed. He could see he wanted to say no by the way they had the room set up, you could clearly see who was in the room.
“If it’s not too much trouble, I would like to talk to my son.”
“Uh, um, I guess.” Noctis closed his books. He really didn’t want to do this but just because his dad was here to talk to him didn’t mean he had to listen. “I’ll, be outside. Noct.” He gave his roommate this look that practically said, ‘call me if you need help’.
Nyx left the room as Regis walked in, closing the door behind him. Like a child, Noctis didn’t look in his father’s direction, unravelling his headphones to block him out.
“Noctis, I’ve been trying to call you.” Noctis plugged his headphones in and put them in his ear. “Noctis please? I’ve been trying to talk to you for a while, the least you could do is talk to me.” He played his loudest music as he flopped on his side, ignoring his dad. “Fine, if you won’t talk, I can only ask you listen. I wish I could say I understand what you identify as but I don’t. What I regret mostly is losing you. I don’t know if I ever understand but I know I should try, especially since your boyfriend came to me himself.”
He could barely hear his dad over his music but that last part was crystal clear. He ripped his headphones out and stared at his father.
“Prom came to see you?”
“It seems that Gladiolus told him where to find me and he took the trip down to find me. He told me that while you were upset I didn’t accept you and called what are a façade, you still missed me. It’s only the two of us and as someone who didn’t have a family, he said he’d hate to see you hold on to such hate. He didn’t want your relationship with him to be something to break the relationship we had. That takes guts, doing what he did. He must truly care about you.” Regis sighed. “I know I ruined our relationship with how I reacted and it scares me that we might not be able to regain the trust we had but I don’t want to lose you. I’m sorry Noctis, for how I hurt you.”
After his dad left, Noctis called Prompto. “You went to talk to my dad?”
“Are you mad? Look, I know you didn’t want to talk to him, but Noct, I didn’t want you to regret it later in life. I just wanted to give you a last chance. Do you hate me?”
“No I don’t hate you. You were able to do what I was scared to do. I mean, things aren’t magically fixed. It’ll take him time to wrap his head around it, but he knows. Thank you Prompto, really.”
“Of course Noct, I just want you to be happy.”
“Well at least I’m with someone who does.”
“You sap.”
