Prompt #26: Last
FFxivWrite2023
Tumblr media
"For once in my life, I put myself first. On that day that I left home, with only a letter to explain why.
It meant leaving behind the world I knew, the home I had known. But adventure and excitement called to me. I did not want my last day to be like my first, and all those days in between. Even if I lived a shorter life, I could at least say that I enjoyed every last moment.
I know it wasn't what my mother wanted for me, but that was her life and her dream, not mine. I dreamt of the ocean, the waves crashing on the hull of my ship, fighting sea monsters and exploring a world much bigger than our village. It reached a point where I knew, if I did not leave, I would never see that dream fulfilled. I hope she can forgive me for my choices, and if my letters ever reach her, I pray she knows how happy I am, how freeing it is on the ocean.
Most of all, I hope she knows I love her, and that I don't blame her for wanting me to stay. The world is scary out there, and the village was all she knew. Even so, I made a choice, and I stand by it until the end.
Until I take my last breath. I am a Pirate. It is the life for me..."

Prompt #14: Clear
FFxivWrite2023
Tumblr media
It was another beautiful day, the sky was crystal clear, the water gentle and sparkling blue, a day that couldn't possibly be ruined in anyways shape or form...
"Good morninggggg!" That shrill sound, it nearly made her drop her morning beer. The audacity. Zhira knew that voice all to well, and more than that...
She recognized the fucking shirt. HER shirt, that was lent out on the condition it was returned to her... Obviously it was still in the hands, or rather on the body, of the bounding Viera as she trotted her way down the dock. With a small groan Zhira simply gave a little wave, watching her half sister parade around in her favorite shirt.
"Thea... Good morning..." With bottle still in hand, her slight buzz was already a little dampened. "What brings you out to my ship?" The sisters had not known each other for overly long, having grown up in separate villages, sharing only a father. Even so, they had crossed paths and from that point on had started to develop a bit of a relationship. It wasn't quite like true sisters, but time was mending that bridge. "I see you still haven't bought new clothes..." She muttered, eyeing the ginger-haired Viera from ear tips to boot heels. "Planning to any time soon?" It was a not so subtle hint.
Unfortunately, it seemed Althea enjoyed her sister's suffering at the loss of the top, and she proudly placed her hands on her hips and grinned. "Oh I have many clothes now... I just like yours more." Immediately she could see the vein twitch on Zhira's forehead and briefly Thea prepared to potentially dodge a thrown bottle. Thankfully for her sake, Zhira valued the alcohol in her hand higher than violence for the moment. Instead the Captain just sighed and seemed to reluctantly accept the situation. She clearly wasn't getting the garment back today anyways.
"Since you've come all this way, you might as well stay for the evening, we're docked for a few days and I'm sure the crew would be happy to visit." Turning on her heels Zhira gave a lackluster wave of her hand and beckoned Thea to follow her back to the ship.
"I still want my shirt back..." The shirt has yet to be returned...

Prompt #9: Fair
FFxivWrite2023
Tumblr media
"Tell us the story of how you got the Fleeting Rose?" I hear that occasionally, usually with the new crew, or perhaps a curious drunk at the Wench in Limsa. While I am not overly well know, the entertainment of my story, mixed with my young age, for a Viera at least, and unassuming appearance has led to some amusing interrogations over a drink or two.
You know how they say 'All's fair in love and war'? Well, all's also fair when you gamble with a pirate, especially one as cunning and desperate as I was.
It's been nearly a decade since I acquired my beautiful vessel, her cherry colored wood glistening in the setting sunlight. The moment I saw her I knew I wanted to be her Captain. The issue was I had little actual experience and she already had someone at the helm. So I did the next best thing. I got myself on board as crew. This would allow me to learn and garner the trust and comradery of the other members, so once I made my move, I would hopefully retain some of their numbers.
Honestly, the lead up is boring, lots of work and a sharp eye helped me move up the ranks over a few years, and I started to build favor with some of the crew. With the initial steps in place, the next part was the most delicate and dangerous. I had to get the deed to the ship, or get rid of the Captain and First Mate. Granted, I really liked the first mate, and I wanted to keep him so the focus shifted to exploiting some sort of weakness that would give me ownership of the Rose.
Thankfully my Captain has two major vices, drinking and gambling. I started attending his games, ensuing I lost often enough that I was disregarded as a threat, but winning the odd few so that he didn't get suspicious that I was throwing the rounds. This went on for a few months until our coffers started to become rather light from his excessive gambling. After a hefty evening of drinking ashore, Myself and a few others started gambling, of course he could not resist joining us...
We played for hours, chipping away at his reserves, and only giving enough to keep him playing and drinking. Once I was sure he no longer followed reason, nor wield a weapon properly, I cornered him on a bet he could not keep, and so suggested the ship, easing it in as a jest at first, then pushing more each game, reminding him it was all he really had left, but he could win it back from me in the morning. He might have truly thought I was teasing. The fool.
Something I became very good at in my early days of Limsa life was slight of hand tricks, and I became particularly skilled with cards. To my delight he went along with it, taking parchment and signing it with the stipulation that this represented the deed, as the real one was safely locked away in the ship. All it was missing was his seal, but he had already gambled the ring and it was now in my possession, so I could seal the parchment with ease myself.
Of course, I won, capitalizing on my tricks to ensure he could not outdo me. We teased him and offered another drink, keeping things light-hearted and fun early into the morning... Once he was passed out, we purchased him a room at the inn and departed from port... Taking the ship, and any who were willing to stay, with us. Very few left, and while my method was underhanded and unfair, really, they should not be surprised. We're pirates not priests. The strongest and smartest survive, and at least I left him with his life, more than most would... Perhaps a bruised ego and a horrible hangover, but... Perhaps this is a good wake up call to get those vices in check hmm?
Regardless, the Fleeting Rose has been mine ever since and I could not ask for a better life. Free to go where the wind and waves take us.
Nothing to hold us back.
