Girl Dad!Cullen and Mom!Asma was a phrase that made me smile. They'd have just wholesome times. I would love to hear more about them ;A; I can just imagine Cullen staying up practicing to be able to do the girls hair and maybe its not quite right but he tried.
Awww, I’m so glad you’re interested! They are. Very important to me. I love talking about Dad Cullen and now I am being enabled so. This is very long but I was on the bus so I just got all of this out:
Their first daughter and second child, Haidar, has Cullen wrapped around her finger. He cannot say no to her no matter how hard he might put on a strong face. When she leaves to join Divine Vivienne’s circle to harness her skills as a mage, he frequently sends her letters and little gifts and tells her how proud he is of her.
Before Safi was born, their first child, Cullen tried to pick up knitting. Coming from a backwater ferelden family, his parents didn’t have the coin to buy their children elaborate gifts and toys and so often settled with hand-me-downs and crafted objects. He wanted to give Safi something he made himself that could bring his child comfort and happiness, so he focused on trying to knit a small mabari for his baby. The final outcome was a bit lopsided and lumpy but Safi loved it all the same - he would carry it around with him everywhere and sleep with it clutched in his arms.
Cullen is the king of tea parties. His girls would throw tea parties with little antivan tea sets their auntie Josie gifted them, he takes the preparation of these parties very seriously. Nur, their third child, would help him in the kitchen to bake shortbread, his mother’s recipe, for the occasion and Haidar would set the table according to her aunt Vivienne’s standard. Ateef and Adalah were too young to fully enjoy the parties but they were esteemed guests. Cullen happily sat through the parties in a too-small chair with a tiny cup of tea he could hold with two fingers.
Cullen trains all of his children in basic self-defense. He doesn’t expect any of them to pick up the sword like he does, but he reiterates how important it is to protect yourself and others. The only child(ren) that ever took a shine to this as he did is Ateef and Adala, though they often ditched any formal sword training to attack their father by jumping on him simultaneously, which Asma found absolutely hilarious.
More below!
Nur and Safi are the only children with his exact hair type, the others took after Asma with dark wavy hair, but Safi and Nur were both born with a poof of blond hair that made him chuckle nervously. He tells both of them how to take care of it properly and would help Nur style her hair, he learns from Mia different hairstyles he can try and some of the Elves in Clan Lavellan also give him some ideas. (There are different Arab braiding styles throughout the Middle East but I like to think she typically wears the average Palestinian fellahi dual braids with hair ornaments - like the last image here )
Whenever he cooked before getting married or having any children, food wasn’t something that needed much attention to detail or needed to be anything more than nutrition but after marrying Asma and having his babies he began to put in a lot of effort. He liked to go the extra mile for his loved ones and found out it was a love language for him to prepare food that would make the people he cared about happy. This would be in the form of an edible flower on Asma’s dinner or recipes he learned from her clan. For his babies, he’d make sweets and prepare their breakfast to look like a smiley face or a heart.
Storytime was a special event. All of his children would pile into one bed and he’d situate himself in the middle, if Asma was home she would be right next to him listening as contently as their children, but he had a thick book of ferelden folktales Branson had gifted him that he would flip through. Each child had their favorite tale. In the end, he would tuck each child into bed with a kiss on their forehead and the blankets pulled up to their chins.
Cullen doesn’t do baby talk but he talks to his babies like they’re saying actual words. Like Adalah can look up at him from her changing mat and say “Goo goo ga ga” and he’d be like “Right indeed. I know this is unpleasant”. Asma thinks it’s funny and I also think it’s funny imagining a very serious conversation between an adult man and a baby who doesn’t know anything outside of milk and sleep.
I’m actually not sure if this is an actual common Palestinian/arab tradition or if my family is just special (it might’ve been just something that occurred in their specific village since I have found absolutely nothing about this online or outside of my family) but there is no concept of a wedding ring but instead rings given from husband to wife every time a child is born. For example; my mom has two rings, one for me and one for my brother but no wedding ring. I used this for Asma and Cullen and every time they have a baby, Cullen gives her a new ring. Each is different and one he even made himself.
His office is full of macaroni and stick figure art. All of their children like to gift both him and Asma art they made - he could always tell who he was because he towered over the other stick figures and Asma would have a very prominent unibrow, he definitely did tear up on Father’s Day when each of his children surprised him with art they all did for him. Haidar even tried to make him breakfast - it was a bit burnt but it’s the thought that counts!
This was longer than I intended but thank you so much for the ask!!💗💗🫶

Can you tell us more about Cullen and Asma’s kids please? 🥺🥺🥺
Of course Random!
Tumblr media
After the events of Inquisition, Asma and Cullen have a grand total of six children. I wouldn’t necessarily say they settled down because Asma was back and forth between South Reach, the Lavellan clan settled in the Western Approach, and Orlais to support Vivienne’s new role as Divine and reinstating the reformed circles all over southern Thedas but Cullen followed her wherever she needed to go and where he couldn’t go he waited for her to return to him, amidst all of that they had their six children.
Tumblr media
Here’s a little lineup of them - from left to right: Safi, Haidar, Nur, Adalah, Ateef, and Sulwan. More about all of them below!
Tumblr media
Safi (left) was their first child and only son, he was born in South Reach and spent his first few years on the Rutherford farm. Safi enjoyed living on the farm more than their other homes, he made faster friends with the animals there than any of the other children in South Reach. Safi has SM (Selective Mutism) and noise sensitivity, he usually walks around with knitted ear muffs his father made for him and tends to stick close to his parents. He developed some magical abilities, but prefers not to use them other than preforming little tricks. As an adult, Safi decides to stay with Asma and Cullen, he helps them at home and on the farm, only leaving for a few weeks at a time to visit the Lavellan clan and eventually getting his Vallaslin.
Haidar (right) was born in Val Royeaux in the estate gifted to Asma and Cullen by Divine Vivienne, though if you ask Asma or Cullen, they will say she was born in Redcliffe out of refusal for anyone to call their child Orlesian. Haidar was definitely their most troublesome child and picked fights with other children (but would often win), when her magic manifested, she had the choice to learn under her mother or join one of Vivienne’s circles - she left determined and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a knight enchanter just as her mother did. She would return home for a few months before returning to her training. There was little to stop her when she had set her mind to something, a trait she had gotten from her mother, as Cullen had said.
Tumblr media
Nur (Left) was also born in South Reach at their family home, Nur mostly kept to herself as a child but she had a bubbly personality and the occasional rambling when you got her speaking about something she was interested in. Nur would ask her papae or mamae to bring her books when they had to leave home. There was little she loved more than the shady tree on the farm she’d huddle up under with a book, it was little surprise when she told her parents about wanting to peruse academia. When Sera had brought Dagna along to South Reach to visit, Dagna was impressed with her skills and took Nur under her wing creating weapons and tinkering with tools only the finest in Thedas had.
Adalah & Ateef (Right) were born in the Western Approach among the Lavellan clan, they were twins and the last children Cullen and Asma had planned for. Adalah and Ateef, due to their closeness to the Lavellan clan, preferred living there than any of their other homes in Thedas, and learned to speak elven fluently before any of their other siblings, they also developed magical abilities. The twins both enjoyed adventure and traveling, they were Cullen’s little birds, always moving from place to place. As adults they left to remain with the Lavellan clan and got their Vallaslin as Safi did, though whenever they could they would send letters to their parents detailing their many adventures.
Tumblr media
Sulwan (Above) was their last child and the youngest by far, she was born after Asma and Cullen’s other children had already left home. At this point, Asma didn’t even think she was physically capable of carrying another child due to her age, but after finding out she was pregnant and confirmed by a healer all was well and healthy, Asma and Cullen decided to have Sulwan. Sulwan was deeply loved by her parents and had a kind but playful personality, she enjoyed spending time in the woods by their South Reach home and beating her father at chess. She was doted on by her older siblings whenever they visited but she adored Safi and Haidar in particular.
This was very long but thank you so much for sending the ask!! I love talking abt characters sfhkjd Cullen and Asma’s children are all very near and dear to my heart.
