Good morning Revivalists from around the world. What a crazy rollercoaster ride of a few years this is turning out to be no? One of my favourite TV shows from the UK from when I was a wee lad was 'Rising Damp'. Sadly the writer recently passed away....but in my mind it was and still is comedy genius. Anyway, the main character 'Rigsby' was a sort of disgruntled landlord, always at odds with his student tenants, and forever trying to seduce the long-suffering Miss Jones from the ground floor flat. He once said in an episode when the students were discussing the new 'permissive society of the 70s'.....upon realising that he himself could not be included in this permissiveness....."ooooh stop the world I want to get off"......like it was a rollercoaster ride that he'd suddenly decided he'd had enough off. There's always a vein of tragedy running through the best comedies I think....and whilst I don't think he meant he wanted to actually leave the world, I think it's a lovely way of reducing the absurdism of the world into some sort of fairground ride. Moral of the story? Keep laughing whenever you can.....it's one of the best medicines you can take!
