Eva knows that other high school relationships probably don’t have to deal with crushing insecurity of the type that’s brought on by the attempted murder of your girlfriend because she’s “so fucking annoying”. That doesn’t mean she’d want hers to look any different.

hello. have you seen this post by @notsomightymightytiger?? that’s my friend!!! and this is completely and utterly inspired by that and completely and utterly written for her. love you stabby friend <3
also known as: the tigers go to disneyland, kateva like to kiss, chess, reese and mattie have an understated bromance and cheerwives can actually be fluffy for once
tw: swearing, theme park kind of things??? aka rollercoasters and fireworks and all that. as always, let me know if i’ve missed anything
(sidenote idk if you can tell but i have never in my life been to disneyland don’t come for me if i wrote it all wrong i tried my best)
---
"We're going to Disneyland."
There was silence in the gym for a solid thirty seconds before all hell broke loose.
"WhAT???"
"Wait, really?!?"
"Oh my God, Riley, you're the best, oh my gOd!"
"Why the fuck did you think that taking us to fucking Disneyland was a good idea??" Kate looked less than pleased at the proposition, a stark contrast to the delighted faces of Reese and Mattie.
Riley smiled brightly. "Team bonding!!"
Kate rolled her eyes. "Right. Of course." Their voice rose in pitch, sarcasm delicately lacing their words. "For the best of the team-"
Chess cut them off, not so subtly stamping on her foot. "Katherine, please."
Farrah had been wobbling on her tiptoes, peering over Annleigh's shoulder. She gave a long-suffering groan. "Annleigh, Clark's not a Tiger, he can't come."
"But-"
"No. It's unfair."
Annleigh ignored her sister and switched her attention to Riley, making her best puppy eyes at the captain. Riley only widened her smile. It probably hurt her face a little bit. "You know what? Fine. Clark can come. It's gonna be fun, right?!"
Annleigh giggled at the answer, sticking her tongue out at a fuming Farrah. Kate was in a similar predicament, being held back by a smirking Chess with an arm around their shoulder. They pulled out their phone as well, already dialling a number, “If Annleigh’s boyfriend gets to come, then my girlfriend should be allowed as well. Otherwise that’s nepotism.”
“Fine.” Riley was steadily regretting her decision to hold a cheer trip. On her left, Cairo squeezed her hand, pressing a kiss to her shoulder. Kate gagged in their direction. “You better not, Kate, or I’m banning your girlfriend from Disneyland.”
“Fuck you.”
“Wait,” Reese spoke up, “If Kate and Annleigh can have Eva and Clark, and Cairo and Riley have each other, can I bring my boyfriend?”
“No more significant others!” Riley clapped her hands, ignoring Reese’s pout. “If you can’t get Eva and Clark here in the next eight minutes, we will be leaving them behind! I paid so much money for these tickets and we will not be late.”
The team headed towards the door, being greeted by Eva and Clark already standing beside Cairo’s minivan. They split the rides evenly between the van and Chess’ car (Kate was more than pissed to find that their best friend had been in on the plan all along).
At one point, Mattie took Reese’s hand. “Hey, even if you can’t bring your boyfriend, you’ve got me, right? Ultimate bromance and all that?”
Reese grinned and squeezed the freshman’s hand. “Hell yeah.”
-
“I want that pin.”
“No, you don’t.” Reese hugged the Belle pin closer.
Chess held out a hand. “Yeah, but I do though.”
Reese shook her head.
“Look, I’ll give you my Tinkerbell diamond one.” They held out the rare pin in their other hand.
“No! Belle is my favourite!”
“She’s my favourite as well though!”
Cairo sighed. “We’ve been here literally ten minutes.”
Reese linked arms with Mattie, turning on her heel to walk off, “I’m going now and you’re not getting my Belle pin!!!!”
“HEY!” Chess chased after the two, trying so hard to keep up their grumpy demeanour and failing when a smile crept onto their face.
Turning to an anxious-looking Riley, Cairo sighed again. By now, she’d sighed more than she’d spoken today. “Chess does know that they could just... buy their own Belle pin if they really wanted, right???”
“It’s the fun of it, Cai.” Riley looked around, craning her neck. “Where on Earth have the other five members of our team gone?”
“Holy shit.” At this rate, Cairo must have been running out of oxygen from the intense sighing. “It has been. Ten. Minutes.”
-
Farrah wouldn't call herself a Disneyland regular, but she's been a few times before. She remembered a time before her mother had left, when she was still just a little kid, coming to the park for the first time. It had been the kind of magical that only a child can experience, filled with glitter and laughter and something that might have been called family. Her mother bought bubblegum flavoured cotton candy, handing the stick to a seven-year-old Farrah with a smile and a wink. They agreed that it was the first thing that you had to do when going to Disneyland - buy cotton candy. Every time since, Farrah bought the same bubblegum pink sugar from the same tacky stand and ate it with the same wonder as she did the very first time.
Now, Farrah had a new family. In, perhaps, more ways than one. Here, away from home, she's still with her family, maybe a slightly dysfunctional one made up of teenage cheerleaders (and Clark), but still, they are her family in one way or another.
Annleigh returned as Farrah was mulling over all this, a stick of worryingly neon pink cotton candy in her hand. "Figured you'd want to start the day off with your usual sugar rush."
Farrah took the treat with a smile, wondering if Annleigh is only so glad to buy such unhealthy food because at least it's not alcohol. "Thanks."
"Come on, ladies! We've got a whole park to explore!" Clark had apparently already visited a store, a pair of Mickey ears stretched over his head. Farrah rolled her eyes, but followed her sister and brother-in-law (nearly) further down the street because, after all, they are her family.
-
“I can’t believe you’ve never been to fucking Disneyland before,” Eva looked mildly horrified, “Has Chess never taken you?”
“I didn’t really want to go.”
Eva narrowed her eyes. “Why the fuck-”
“Reasons.” Kate’s voice was sharp and Eva backed off, only kissing the top of their head. Kate squeezed her hand in response. “Anyway, come on, show me everything. Mountain rides challenge, right?”
“Ugh, Katie, the queues with be forever...”
“Lucky for you, I’ll be there to while away the time with you.” She winked, laughing when Eva blushed. “Let’s go.”
-
Of all the things to happen at Disneyland, Reese was not expecting to get sneak attacked by a literal cuddly pig. She yelped, reaching a hand to smack it away, nearing the point of ‘this might as well happen’, when a small head poked out from behind the toy. Mattie grinned, “Boo!”
“Jesus Christ, you scared the life out of me.”
The younger girl giggled brightly. “Look what I got!”
“...Is that the pig from Moana?”
“Obviously.” Mattie rolled her eyes. “You should know by now that Moana is the best Disney movie of all time.”
Reese rummaged in her backpack for a second before pulling out yet another pin. “Look! Moana pin. Girl, I would give it to you, but me and Chess are tryna see who can get the most pins by the end of the day. Speaking of, was Chess in the store?”
“Yeah, actually.” She hesitated. “Dude, I hate to tell you this, but they had a Belle pin.”
“Shit.”
-
Perhaps queuing had been a mistake. It had probably been hours. Kate would have known more accurately if they’d worn a watch like Chess always told them to. She was stubborn though, and hadn’t. “Aves...”
“Yeah?”
“How long have we been waiting?”
“Twenty-five minutes.”
“Oh.” They craned their neck to see over the heads in front of them, realising that they were only a few people from the front. “Oh.”
Eva laughed and took her partner’s hand again, “Told you the queues were long.”
However, in only a matter of minutes, they were seated in an uncomfortable car, the seatbelts just a little too tight to be comfortable and a little too loose to feel actually safe. To say Kate was uncomfortable would be an understatement. She was also maybe a tiny bit scared.
Eva squinted at them. “You look like you’re gonna throw up.”
“I’m fine.”
And so the ride began.
Around halfway through, they began the steady climb to the highest peak. Kate turned to Eva, yelling over the shouts of other passengers. “Hey, babe? Remember when I said I didn’t come here with Chess because of reasons? Now might be a good time to tell you that those reasons are that I’m scared of heights.”
“You fucking idiot.” Eva turned carefully to them, holding their hands tighter, worry and amusement shining in her eyes. The car reached the peak of the ride. “Look at me and don’t fucking think about looking down. It’s okay.” She cupped her cheek. They fell suddenly and Kate's heart jumped into her throat. Eva laughed a little at their surprise. “You know what they say, babe, you gotta confront your fears straight on.”
“I can’t do anything straightly.”
And that was how they found themselves kissing on a rollercoaster, hair slightly in their faces, just as the camera shutter went off.
-
The team somehow reconvened for lunch, stopping on a bench somewhere as Clark unpacked a multitude of sandwiches and juice boxes. Of course, only Clark, Annleigh and Riley ended up eating the home-brought food, everyone else opting to buy their own trashy, mostly-sugar lunch.
“How the fuck did you know to bring all this if we only organised the trip this morning?” Kate sounded suspicious, eyeing Clark like he was the imposter.
Clark looked mildly sheepish. “Oh... We all knew already.”
“WHAT?”
“Yeah, sorry Kitkat.” Chess stifled a snort of laughter. “We organised this weeks ago. We had a group chat and everything.”
Kate spluttered for a second. “Alright, traitors, who else was left out of this?”
Mattie, Farrah and Reese all raised a hand.
“This makes no sense. Cairo, I trust you to tell the truth, why the fuck didn’t you tell us?!”
Cairo smirked. “We didn’t tell Mattie and Farrah because they’re children-”
“Rude!” Mattie smacked Cairo on the arm. “I am possibly more responsible than half of the rest of you.”
Riley cut in. “Don’t be silly, Cai. We didn’t tell Reese, Mattie or Farrah because they like Disney the most and we wanted it to be a surprise treat for them.”
The rest of the group made noises of appreciation or fondness. Kate, however, was less than pleased, “What about me?!”
“Oh, we just wanted to see your face when we announced it.” Cairo didn't hold back.
“Fuck you all.” But they were holding back a smile, already moving on to the next thing. “Hey, Farrah, you okay? Why aren’t you eating?”
The sophomore groaned. “I feel sick.”
Annleigh hugged her sister to her side, rubbing her back gently. ‘It’s because you ate all that cotton candy earlier.”
“It was so good, though.” Farrah frowned, regretting her past-self and her need for sugar.
Clark reached into his backpack, pulling out a pair of Minnie ears, before plonking them awkwardly on Farrah’s head. He grinned. “That’ll make you feel better!”
“Dude, I don’t know, but thanks for the effort.” She fought a smile, reaching up to arrange the ears around her plaits.
-
Riley had been anxious about the trip ever since it had been first suggested. She’d pored over the plans for hours on end, triple checking each detail with Cairo and Chess. Now that they were here, it was all going well enough. Sure, maybe they had gotten lost a couple of times, and sure, maybe they hadn’t stayed as much of a team as she’d planned, but yeah, it was going fine. Everyone else was having fun.
“Hey, Rye, you doing okay?”
She nodded with a smile, clutching Cairo’s hand. “Yup! All good!”
Cairo did not look convinced. “Look, you've been stressing about everyone else all day, how about we leave them be and go visit some princesses, huh?”
“Cai... Cai, that would be honestly amazing.” Hesitating, she watched the retreating backs of the rest of the team. “You’re sure they’ll be okay?”
“They’ll be fine, I promise. Besides, they’ve got Clark and Chess and Eva in case anything goes wrong.” The taller girl didn’t hesitate from naming who she perceived as the ‘responsible ones’.
“Okay.” Riley opened her mouth to suggest a destination, when they were approached by the one and only Peter Pan.
“Hey!”
“OhmygodCai.” She clung to her girlfriend’s arm. “It’s Peter Pan.”
Cairo snorted, nudging Riley to spark her reply. She watched as the two had what was possibly the purest and most wholesome conversation she had ever heard, sneakily taking photos that she would treasure because of Riley’s true delight. Riley skipped towards her after a couple of minutes, grinning properly from ear to ear. “That was so cool!”
“Amazing, Rye. Who shall we visit next?”
“Oh my God, we have to see Tangled!”
“....Rapunzel.”
Riley paused from where she was dragging Cairo into another set of rooms. “What?”
Cairo laughed, “She’s not called Tangled, babe, her name’s Rapunzel.”
“Oh. Yeah, right, of course, forgot.”
The other girl only laughed harder. “You're so stupid, Jesus Christ, I love you.”
Riley blushed. “Love you too.”
-
“So you did the mountain rides challenge.”
“Yes. Obviously.”
“And somehow, just magically, you two found yourselves making out in every single ride photo.” Chess crossed their arms, grinning at the couple in front of them.
“I- It was noT making out!!” Kate spluttered a reply, hiding her face in Eva’s shoulder. Chess only laughed harder.
Eva hummed as if she was making a difficult decision. “I don’t know, babe, you got pretty into it at one point.”
The senior cackled, high-fiving Eva over Kate's head. Kate continued to hide in their girlfriend's shoulder, only lifting a middle finger in Chess’ direction as a reply. Chess took the offending finger in their hand, pulling Kate up so she could walk between the other two. “Damn, Kitkat.”
“I’m not ever replying to that name again. I have been too attacked to allow it.”
Eva kissed the top of their head, “You came here to have a good time and you’re just feeling so attacked right now.”
“Exactly!” Kate nudged their head up into Eva’s chin, “This is why I’m dating you, meme girl.”
“Ew, gross.” Chess tugged Kate, who tugged Eva, who finally got them walking again. “Come on, lovebirds, it’s firework time.”
-
By the time the fireworks began, they’d been at the park for hours. Farrah still had her Minnie ears on, ones which Clark occasionally tried to steal due to his own ears being lost on one ride or another. Annleigh would only bat his hand away, laughing when he pressed kisses to her palm.
Kate kissed Eva again when the first firework exploded above them, being caught by yet another camera, this time in the hands of Riley. The photo found its way onto the Tigers group chat by morning, greeted by a pouting Kate begging them to take it down against the protests of the rest of the team (“But you’re just so cute!”). Somehow, she didn’t complain when it even later worked its way onto Eva's Instagram feed.
Chess and Reese jumped at the first fireworks, too absorbed in counting pins to pay attention to the rest of the world. Mattie wormed her way between them, sneakily stealing both Reese’s Moana pin and Chess’ newly-bought Belle pin. They were too distracted by the light show to notice and Mattie celebrated her little victory by also stealing some of the cotton candy that Farrah had bought herself again, despite her earlier regrets. She supposed some people never learnt.
Cairo stood quietly at the back of the group, showing a still-bouncing Riley the pictures taken with the various characters they’d encountered. Riley kissed her for the final firework, a silent ‘thank you’ for today.
With the lights of Disneyland glimmering maybe slightly tackily behind the group, Riley took one last picture. It was them, the team, the Tigers, silhouetted in the lights but, if you zoomed in and maybe turned the brightness up a bit, you could still see them smiling. That made its way onto the group chat as well and maybe it still hangs in more than one of their rooms. It was certainly a day that qualified for the scrapbooks.

Kateva Headcanons at 4:30 because writing helps me sleep:
Eva's bedroom is on the second floor in her house and there's always a ladder outside so Kate climbs up to her window frequently
Kate took Eva to a skate park and had their first kiss there.
They signed their names under the halfpipe after they kissed
Eva plays guitar for Kate when she can't sleep
Kate helps Eva with english because they have dyslexia
Eva's love language is physical touch
Kate is fairly sure hers is also physical touch but also really likes showing affection through gifts.
As a result Eva has a lot of cute little presents around their bedroom
Kate has a box of polaroids that are mostly photos of Eva and her cuddling on a couch or bed.
Eva likes being little spoon, which doesn't really bother Kate since she likes holding Eva.
Kate's favorite hoodie is the one she wears in canon, of course it no longer belongs to her since Eva wears it more than she does
They have matching Build A Bears, two tigers in cheer uniforms that have voice boxes that say I love you.
Eva is the only one allowed to call Kate "Katie", Cairo tried once and almost got decked.
Kate made Eva a presentation about how amazing they are because they had been having a really bad dysphoric episode.

Okay but time to share some wlw ships I adore cause its 2 a.m. and I can't sleep xx
I'll organize them so followers can skip to stuff they know
Cartoons/Animes:
The owl house
Lumity: obviously just an amazing ship, a healthy enemies/rivals to lovers queer romance suitable for all audiences, as well as some bi x lesbian support.
Ever after high
Darling x Apple: They 👏 Kissed 👏 2016ish. That is huge for that time, like yes, now there is Lumity and Catradora and etc., but back in 2015ish-2016ish it wasn't as expressed or shown in shows as it is now. And I just love the potential development they could have brought each other, especially Apple.
Rwby
Bmblb: literally they are the reason I am so comfortable with my own sexuality. They will always hold a special place in my heart for being the comfort I needed when I was questioning sexuality, and also they are gay af. Love them so much x
Whiterose: same as above, but they are less canon but still deserve so much love. Another rivals/enemies to lovers, but a bit more one-sided for the enemies/rivals part lol.
New Game!
Aoba x Hifumi: I just love how playful Abba can be with her, and how comfy Hifumi gets with Aoba. She is just so adorable and shy, and Abba brings out such a cute side of her.
Kakegurui
Meariri and Kirisaya: just very very gay, and I love them. Gambling lesbians for the win
I also like others, but these are the main ones that come to mind when I think about stuff xx
Games:
Danganronpa (dear lord are there a lot, so I limited it to the top 4)
Soapies/mahiyoko: borderline canon. Love the mean lesbian soft for one person vibe Hiyoko has, and her relationship with Mahiru makes her a better person and I just love to see that cause the poor thing has been put through so much.
Ikuzono: body guard x pop star au anyone??? Okay but seriously, the potential angst and hurt comfort is strong with these two and I love it! They are both totally underrated too so <3
Celesgiri: ENEMIES TO LOVERS!!!! ROMANTIC GAY TENSION!!!!! CRIME X SOLVES CRIME. 1000000/10. Also they are both just aesthetically pleasing next to each other. And also they are the mean bisexual x meaner lesbian meme/trope. Done with everyone's bs 24/7 and the two gay disasters who actually have braincells in their friend group.
Bandaid/tsumioda: for six fans, they are very similar to katanna vibes. Just genuinely an adorable pairing of loud and accepting gf x soft , shy, and kinda traumatized gf that can be very sweet as they give each other the love they both need and deserve. Also Ibuki is my highest kin and Mikan is my type, so bonus comfort for projection reasons.
Your turn to die
Naoreko: the domestic lesbians who adopted their autistic catboy son and have a lovely cottagecore family vibe i didn't ask for, but needed. Seriously though, if they weren't in the game they would have adopted Gin and Sara and possibly Joe and live as Cottagecore wives being supportive moms, and I love that. Also they are such a tattoo artist x flower shop owner vibe and I love that so much.
Genshin impact
Jeanlisa: oblivious x flirt who has eyes only for them. Everyone knows they are dating... but Jean.
Doki doki literature club
Sayonika: gay cottagecore vibes and very sweet gfs. Mental health rep woooo! Both deserve the world.
Natsuri: enemies to lovers, huh, who would have thought that I would of liked this trope? /lh /s
Musical theater:
Six
Katanna: literally the only thing I still have no issues with from the six fandom, these two I still adore and am proud to support as Kat and Anna both deserve the world.
BMC
Pinkberry: angry and bitchy character x literal ray of sunshine. They feel like the most likely to fit a coffee shop au on this list so xx
WATT
Kateva: Eva and Kate both are just interesting characters from a psychological and writing standpoint, so I love to think about how their relationship works out, especially since they are canon.
Live action:
Supergirl
Agentreign: haven't talked about them in a while, but I still love them. Bring sam back 2021.
Supercorp: seriously they need to be canon /srs. Otherwise, ima flip a table.
I would add more but now its almost 3 a.m. so xx

omg four word prompts fhsjsj maybe "you look really tired" kateva??? <333
“You look really tired.”
Eva joked as her girlfriend pulled open the car door and slid into the passenger seat. Despite the fact that Kate A. lived close enough to their high school to walk if necessary and B. did (although it came as a shock to most people) have her driver’s license, the flier almost always ended up picking her up before school. To the surprise of no one, however, Kate wasn’t much of a morning person. The few times that Eva had been in appointments and not able to come, her girlfriend had just decided to skip their first period and sleep in.
Hence, why Eva now insisted on picking her up. She wasn’t going to be responsible in aiding Kate’s rather poor attendance record.
“Shut up...” Kate grumbled, putting her head down on the dashboard. This was also common, but Eva grinned and nudged her with her shoulder. As much as she’d like to have held her hand the rest of the way, the Sanchez’s car was a stick-shift, and they’d never quite been able to figure out how to make it work yet. “Ughhhhhh....” Kate groaned, burying herself further into the coat she was wearing. “Don’t wanna goooo...”
(The flier was actually pretty sure it had been her coat first, but Kate tended to steal most of her jackets. If she didn’t look unfairly adorable in them, Eva might have been more inclined to ask for them back.)
The taller teen rolled her eyes at her partner’s theatrics. “K, we can’t just not go to school because you’re tired... you know that. If we could, literally no one would ever attend class.” This conversation happened often. And by often, it meant every single morning. As long as Eva had known the other girl, she didn’t think she’d ever seen her go to bed before three A.M.
“Please??” Kate looked up at Eva as she pulled to a stop at a light, widening her brown eyes. She was shockingly good at puppy dog eyes. Like, unfairly good. “Just this once...?”
... it would be so... easy to just go........ somewhere else............
“Where would we even go, Katie...?” Eva sighed after a moment, pointedly looking at the round instead of her infuriatingly attractive girlfriend.
“Glad you asked.” Kate, suddenly quite chipper (for her), reached into her backpack and pulled out her journal. The shorter girl was the type to journal everything, really. She had like several dozen lying around her room at any moment. Apparently, they were all for different things. One didn’t even had lines it it, it was just dots on a page. Eva didn’t get it, but whatever made her happy, really. “I made a list, actually. First, coffee. Then, we kind of wander around the mall until we accidentally make our way over to the Build-A-Bear. ‘Haha’, we both say at the same time. ‘How funny would it be...’ and it’s a joke, but we both really want to go in there. Anyway, so we do, we get them and now they’re in love, too. After that, there’s lunch and then the library. Then, we head to school because practice—“
“Wait, wait, wait—“ Eva was laughing. “You’re telling me we skip school but *still* have to go to practice?”
Kate nodded. “Yeah, I didn’t want to put it there either, but honestly? Imaging just the four others at practice was kind of a bummer. So we go, but only because we’re basically the glue holding this team together.”
There were tears in Eva’s eyes from laughing by this point, but she’d (completely accidentally, mind you) “forgotten” to turn into the Giles Corey parking lot. The gymnast beamed as they left the school behind them in their wake, a rare sort of smile lighting up her face. Alright. This might have been worth it. Just maybe.
“This is not going to be a reoccurring thing...” Eva warned. From the passenger seat, her girlfriend whooped. “And you’re the one who has to tell my mother why we were absent today. Deal?”
“Deal!”

kateva!!!
this was inspired on a little thing me, @thatboleyngirlreads and @sapphic-theatre-fan discussed on the watt discord. thanks for the idea guys, and i hope you enjoy this.
here its the link for this same fic on ao3
title: you are so much more than they can see
trigger warnings: mostly things already mentioned in the show (murder, addiction) and self doubt
word count: 1365
---------------------------------------
Most days, Kate lived on the present. She liked to enjoy what she had right then and there, rather than stay in the past and stop living her life. But there were some days where she just couldn’t do it, and those days were hard. Most days, she missed Chess, the old Chess, before the injury, who always had her back and who would always make things better. Some days it was the ghosts of the three people who died on that cursed sleepover, and the thought of Mattie in prison, scared and alone and confused. But on the really bad days, she thought about Riley. Not about how Riley stabbed three people, including herself, but about how she could have not gone crazy. She knew about Riley’s obsessive crush on Eva, she knew there was a chance that, at some point, Riley would’ve approached her and start talking. And she knew Eva, she knew how insecure she could be, how she could sometimes think that cheer was all she was good for, she knew that if Riley started showing her affection, she would probably show it back. On those days, she woke up feeling like shit. And it seems like that was one of those days.
Luckily it was a Saturday. She got her phone to call Eva, she at least needed to hear her girlfriend’s voice, but before she did so, she looked back at the messages they had sent the day before, Eva’s voice echoing on her ears soft I love you’s. It was comforting, but in the back of Kate’s mind, it was still hard to believe. With her hands shaking, she clicked the video call button beside Eva’s contact and waited. She picked up almost immediately.
“Hey, Katie. Is everything okay?” Eva’s voice said, a concerned frown forming when she saw Kate’s teary eyes.
“Can you come over?” she asked quietly.
“I’ll be there in half an hour. You’re okay, Katie, I’m okay too, alright?”
“Alright.”
“I love you, pretty girl.”
“I love you too, Aves.” She said and hung up. Seeing her girlfriend’s face and sweet smile was comforting, and hearing her voice grounded her, if ever so lightly. She was going to be there in half an hour, she would be okay.
Getting her covers and pillows, she went downstairs, throwing them on the couch before unlocking the door and going back to burry herself under the soft pile. She clung to her phone, Eva’s face flashing on her lock screen, staring lovingly back at her. ‘Get yourself together, Kate. Eva’s okay, she loves you. Riley’s in prison, she can’t go near her. Eva loves you, she loves you she loves you she loves you.’ She kept repeating that to herself, hugging her own body seeking for comfort, waiting for her girlfriend to get there. Minutes felt like hours, the time was being dragged and painful until finally the door was opened and Eva came in, locking it behind her before going to Kate, who tackled her in a tight hug.
“It’s okay, I’m here. I’ve got you, and I’m not letting go.” Sanchez whispered against her hair and she finally let tears roll down, her nuzzling her neck. They moved quietly to the couch, and Kate positioned herself to lean against Eva’s chest, the calm sound of her heart beating calming her. “Do you want to talk about it?” she asked after a few minutes, tracing patterns in Kate’s arms.
“It’s just… sometimes I get scared, kind of, of what could’ve happen. Or more like what couldn’t have happened.”
“What do you mean, Katie?”
“Can we not talk about it?”
“Of course, baby, whatever you want.” Eva’s voice was caring and slightly worried, but she let it go. They didn’t say anything else, but the silence was comfortable. Hours were spent with the background noise of a TV show none of them were paying attention to before Kate spoke up.
“I love you.”
“I love you too, koala.” If anyone else called Kate that, she would kill them on the spot but coming from Eva, the nickname was grounding and only made her hold onto he tighter.
“I love you so much, E, I can’t imagine my life without you.” She repeated and Eva kisses her head, something telling her she wasn’t done speaking. “But sometimes, I think about what would’ve happened if Riley had ever talked to you before that night. If she started talking to you, and being nice and asked you out, and maybe you would’ve said yes. Then you’d start dating, but Riley would only care about your cheer skills. She wouldn’t see you for who you are.” Kate started to cry. “She had a massive crush on you, but just because of how good you are in cheer.”
“It’s okay, Katie, it’s okay.”
“It isn’t, Aves. You’re so much more than that and I hate that you don’t see it. You’re amazing at so many things, and you have this adorable way of being you, I just love every single part of you.”
“And I love every part of you.” Eva smiled and kissed her head again.
“I’m serious, babe. You are so much more than they think you are. You’re the way your eyes shine when you talk about something you love, and how you can say so much even when you don’t speak at all, you’re how much you care about people, and how you can think fast and do the right thing. You’re your little jumps and excited smirks, and how you’re somehow always warm, how you never push me to talk about something I don’t want to, you just hold me and I know everything is going to be okay, because I have you. And you’re so much more than the old highest ranking flier on the state. It hurts that you don’t believe that, and sometimes I worry so much about you pushing yourself too hard. I know you don’t see that, but I want to help you see it.” Kate looked at her girlfriend, who was also crying.
“I love you so much, darling.” Eva told her and they wrapped on each other’s arms.
“It terrifies me to think that I could’ve never be with you. I hate what Riley and what she did but it made us actually meet and have to spend time together, and I fell for you. I’m still falling for you, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop.” There had been months they didn’t talk about those nights and it took Eva a bit by surprise. But this was the first time she heard a positive thing about it, and when she thought further, it was true. “I noticed you the first time I played with the Tigers against you. You had that cute smirk and the spark in your eyes, you encouraged your team mates and you just seemed so happy to be there. It was never about winning for you, you just do it to enjoy it, it’s adorable how happy you are when you’re doing it.”
“You’re so much more than you think too. When you open up, you’re the sweetest person I know. You, my love, are the way you can always make me laugh, the silly ways you can go around my parents’ rules, how you try to help everyone who needs it. You are your rants about what you love, your cute little smile, the way you get flustered when I compliment you and how you’ll do anything to protect who you love. You are the person who always steals my clothes and who I love and I can’t live without. I’m going to tell you just how amazing you are every day, until you believe it.” Eva smiled and caressed her cheeks. “I love you, koala. So much. And what could’ve happened is scary, but it didn’t happen. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.”
“It just feels like a dream, you know? Calling you my girlfriend.” Kate nuzzled Eva’s neck after a few minutes, her tired voice giving away the fact that she was tired.
“Then let’s just hope we never wake up.”

this didnt really turn out how i wanted it to but i guess its okay.
hope you liked it!

Hello! I have come to request for you to write a kateva one-shot or headcannons to make everyone cry. You can save this ask for when you want to write or do whatever you want with it. So yeah, I love your writing so much and you even more! 💖💖💖
I kinda wanna write but also I'm in a headcanon mood so I'm going to take advantage of this. And thank you, babe, I love you too!!! 💙💙💙
~
- When Kate saw Eva, her first thought was "fuck" because she could see how pretty Eva was and thought she was cute, and also thought she didn't have a chance with her.
- When Eva saw Kate, she immediately tried to determine if Kate was into girls and quickly came to the conclusion that she was.
- Eva doesn't like cats, but the first time she went over to Kate's house, before they started dating, Kate answered the door with a cat in her arms and Eva realized that Kate was a cat person.
- Kate is six inches shorter than Eva (I know the actresses are basically the same height shhhhhhh) and she secretly doesn't mind being shorter than her girlfriend, she likes it when Eva pulls her into her lap or picks her up to kiss her, but she does think six inches is a little overkill
- Eva is 5'7" and Kate is 5'1", by the way
- Kate wears all of Eva's clothes all the time, and Eva thinks she looks adorable
- Kate's favorite thing of Eva's to wear is a shirt that says "ABCDEFUCK OFF"
- Kate buys flannels and hoodies that are waaaaaaay too big on her, so Eva can actually fit into them and she wears them all the time
- Her favorite is this huge grey hoodie that has rainbow strings
- Kate doesn't sleep well ever, so Eva gets lots of texts at 2 am about a TV show Kate is binging or a book she's reading or homework she's doing
- Eva has social anxiety and Kate helps in any way she can, she gets good at deflecting attention away from Eva and she can tell when crowds start to overwhelm her
- The first time they kissed, they both malfunctioned for a moment and then kissed again
- One time, the team got second to last place in a competition and Eva picked Kate up and spun her around because they were both, along with the team, ecstatic
- Kate likes it when Eva plays with her hair
- Kate is also always in Eva's lap, just because
- Kate has so many freckles and Eva sometimes takes a pen and draws constellations in them when she's bored
- Eva loves having Kate read to her
- They have gone for walks at sunset, holding hands, barefoot more times than they can count
- Eva said "I love you" first
- When she's upset, Kate will curl up in Eva's lap and bury her face where Eva's neck meets her shoulder and cling to her shirt until she feels better

Saw a dialogue prompt I really wanted to try, so here's some Kateva. Warning: it's 11 pm, I'm tired as fuck, and this isn't edited, like, at all. Credit to AnonAnon for the idea!
Prompt: "I'm rambling again, aren't I?"
When Eva woke up, there was sunlight streaming through the windows.
That never happened. She was always up long before the sun.
As she slowly woke up without closing her eyes, she noticed two things.
One, the light appeared to be coming from her right, even though her window was on the left.
Two, she was curled around something warm.
Slowly, memories from the night before came flooding in, and she realized that the reason the sun was in the wrong direction was because she was in Kate's room, and the something warm she was curled around was Kate.
This was not where she was supposed to be. She was supposed to be at home - shit, her grandma was coming over for lunch! But it also felt like she was supposed to be there, slowly waking up with Kate.
Eva opened her eyes and brushed Kate's hair away from her face, pressing a kiss against her forehead. Kate made a little noise in her sleep, then opened her eyes halfway, taking in the sight of Eva on the pillow next to her. Eva, suddenly very aware that the was the first time they'd ever fallen asleep together, hoped her hair wasn't too much of a mess and her morning breath wasn't too bad.
"Hi," Kate said simply, her voice hoarse from sleep.
"No good morning?" Eva teased. Kate shrugged.
"It's early, cut me some slack." Kate closed her eyes again, scrunching them against the light still streaming in from the windows. Eva paused for a second just to admire how perfect Kate looked, with slightly mussed hair and the sunlight perfectly washed across her faint smile. "Ugh, too bright. Turn off the sun."
"Actually, that's a bad idea for a lot of reasons. First of all-" Eva started to explain something she'd learned awhile ago, when she'd gotten bored on her off period after finishing her homework, and recalled what she could about what would happen if the sun suddenly just disappeared.
"And anyways, it would take eight minutes for us to stop getting sunlight after the sun turned off, so you'd probably be awake at that point anyways-" Eva paused when she realized how long she'd been talking. "Oh, shit, I'm rambling again, aren't I? Sorry-"
"Don't be sorry." Kate opened her eyes again, just enough so she could see Eva. "You're so cute when you're talking about something you're interested in."
Eva went a little bit pink. "I-"
Kate closed her eyes again and then wriggled closer, burying her face in Eva's shirt to help block out the sunlight, which really was kinda glaring right into her eyes. "And you're cute when you're flustered."
"Stop it." Eva tightened the arm around Kate's back. "You're the cute one."
"'m not cute."
"Lies."
"Mattie says her whole English class is scared of me."
"They're misinformed."
"V..."
Eva laughed a little as Kate trailed off. "You're too tired to argue, so I win by default."
"Not fair." Kate sighed into Eva's shirt. "But technically true."
"You can go back to sleep if you want. I'm not going anywhere."
"Promise?" Just from her tone, Eva could tell Kate wasn't just making sure Eva would stay while she went back to sleep now - she was making sure Eva would never abandon her.
"I promise." Eva hooked her leg around Kate's, tangling the blanket around their legs as she did so. "Go back to sleep. You need it."
"So bossy." Kate yawned. "Okay."
It wasn't long before she was asleep again, and Eva traced light circles onto her back and stared at the wall, thinking the words she didn't yet know how to say.
I love you.

lil kateva fic that i wrote inspired on preston saying that he wanted to write eva with really strict military parents and something @i-don-t-even-care put on the discord.
this was written in less than one hour, but im proud of it? idk, hope you like it
title: Toxic Thoughts Of An Over Achiever
trigger warnings: mentally abusive parent-child relationship, intrusive thoughts, unhealthy habits
word count: 1076
————————————————————————-
Eva always grew up being told that she needed to give her best in every situation. she did her best all her life, and was pretty much the perfect child, the one all parents wanted to have. she always did what she was told, she always respected everyone around her, she kept things to herself (which adults love) and she rarely went to high school parties without a good reason (friends birthday or something). Even though she didn’t cheer to get a medal, she still did her best at that, because she knew it would give her opportunities to go to better colleges without spending too much money, and she also had her own savings from her job at the pizza place. She was an over achiever in every sense, and being an over achiever was the least her parents expected of her. They wanted her to enroll on all the AP classes and get 100% on all her tests, to focus on her future and become a successful person. So when Giles Corey offered her a cheer scholarship, her parents were thrilled.
But with the scholarship, came meeting the rest of the team; Kate, to be more precise. and the way Kate made Eva feel was something she had never experienced before. She had crushes, but none of them compared to Kate Dalton. When Kate started to flirt, she flirted back, awkwardly in the beginning, and the feeling only grew. Kate could make her happy by simply being there, and her smile, her smile was the best thing she had ever saw. When Kate smiled at her, it was like the whole world faded away. every little joke she told, every sarcastic comment she made and every time her eyes light up Eva got butterflies. and when Kate asked her out, she immediately said yes.
Their first kiss happened on their second date, and Eva felt like she was dreaming the whole time. Kate fucking Dalton was kissing her. She couldn’t stop smiling for three days. they went out for a few weeks before making it official. Eva was the one to ask this time, and she was so happy when Kate said yes. the time they spent together was like a dream that none of them wanted to wake up from.
They had their ups and downs, every couple did, but they always made up. in six months of dating, they knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with each other.
Eva’s parents weren’t as happy as their daughter. They were glad Eva had found someone for her, but they were always talking about how Eva should focus more on her future, and that high school relationships never lasted. not having her parents full support hurtled, but that didn’t mean Eva would keep herself from loving Kate and being loved by her.
She was always told what she had to do with her life: get her high school diploma on top of the honors role, go to a good college, preferably studying something like engineering, enlist on the military, and make a career for herself there as a military engineer; when she resigned from the military she would put her diploma to use in other areas; maybe, along all that, she would find someone to be with, and maybe, if she had time, she would have no more than two kids. but all those plans were suddenly so unimportant. All Eva could see on her future was Kate. she wanted to be with Kate no matter what. She didn’t care about diplomas and grades anymore. sure, she kept them up and was still on the honors role, but if she had to miss an assignment to stay with Kate, shed gladly miss it.
Part of her felt like she could be doing better. The stern looks on her parents faces when they found out she had missed the due date for some homework or she didn’t get at least a 95 on a test made her feel so bad. So she started trying to work harder and still be there for Kate. It worked alright at first, but as Chess' birthday approached, she found her girlfriend hiding in a bathroom stall and crying more and more times. and more and more times she would spend the night over, the comfort of having each other keeping nightmares mostly away, and the feeling of sufficiency pushing away her intrusive thought.
But when she came back home, the stares and the criticism got to her and she felt like she could do better, she had to do better. She would stay up all night studying, checking her phone every half hour to see if Kate had texted and needed anything, and drowning herself in work. She wrote essays the teachers didn’t ask for and got exercises from college books, trying to be better. She forgot to eat, she lived off coffee and motivation, the only times she would remember to eat was when food was brought to her with a phrase such as “if you eat you will be more productive”, usually said by her parents.
You could clearly see how she was changing. It pained Kate to watch it. Her girlfriend was slipping away by the second, and as much as she told her she was enough and that she didn’t have to overwork herself, Eva didn’t believe it. The two had their time together, when they would just stay home watching a movie, or go out to a park, but Eva always seemed on edge.
She could only realize how bad things actually were when she passed out of exhaustion in the middle of cheer practice, having a concussion and a sprained wrist. She spent a couple days in the hospital, and after that, her parents had a talk with her.
She had to chose between being the best at everything she did, or be with Kate. For her, it wasn’t a choice. She knew she would be disappointing her parents, but she chose Kate. She would still work hard, and get good grades, like she always did, she just wouldn’t be on top of everything. she didn’t care though, as much as her parents and the voices in her head said she should. It was hard keeping those thoughts away, but she managed to burry them most of the time. She was happy doing what she was best at: loving Kate.

“Go on, tell me. Tell me you don’t love me” Kateva angst?
Catch me asking for prompts and then taking 2082540822038 years to answer them. Also catch me being unable to end angst without fluff for these two. Also Kate as an art lesbian majoring in something arty in college.
~~~~~~~
“Are you okay? You’ve been a little... distant lately.”
“I’m fine.”
“Eva, seriously, what’s wrong?” Kate moved Eva’s laptop and sat next to her in its place.
“Nothing, I told you. Everything’s fine.” Eva’s mouth was saying one thing, but her tense muscles and refusal to make eye contact with Kate were saying something completely different.
“I don’t think you’re telling the truth.” Kate reached for Eva’s hands, but she yanked them away, startling her.
“God, Kate, why can’t you just fucking drop it?” Eva snapped. “You always do this, just leave me alone.”
Kate stood up. “What?”
“I don’t want to talk about it, so why do you keep pestering me?”
“What, you want to just suffer in silence?”
“Yes!”
“You know that’s not a good idea-”
“Kate, stop it!” Eva buried her face in her hands. “I don’t have to tell you everything!”
There was a time when you did anyways.
“Is this why you’ve been so weird?” Kate asked, clenching her hands into fists. “What is going on? I think I deserve to know why my girlfriend won’t look me in the eyes anymore.” As she said it, the thought hit her like a stone. “Unless- unless you don’t want to be my girlfriend anymore.”
Eva didn’t say anything, and Kate’s heart sank into her shoes.
She laughed bitterly. “Of course. Of fucking course. I mean, I get it. I get that I’m a pain in your ass and I’m a mess and I can’t stop having nightmares and being with me is hard, but I thought you loved me anyways. Or at least that you’d have the decency to be honest if you didn’t.” She swiped at the tears forming in her eyes. “I thought you’d just tell me. You should.” Eva still didn’t say anything, and the anger started to swell in her throat. “Go on, tell me. Tell me you don’t love me.” Still nothing. “Say it!” She tried and failed to keep her emotions in check. “Just say it, please. Everyone always does.”
“Kate...”
“Fine, whatever, I’ll go. I’ll stay at Annleigh’s apartment or something, she doesn’t live far. You won’t have to see me again.” Kate turned and grabbed her duffel bag from the closet, part of her waiting for Eva to tell her to stop.
She didn’t.
Kate was pulling her shoes on - battered old sneakers she’d had since high school - when Eva spoke up, very, very quietly.
“It’s not that I don’t love you.”
“What?”
“I do love you. I love you a lot, more than anything. It’s just...” Eva sighed and still couldn’t meet her eyes. “I want you to feel better. I want you to feel okay again, and I don’t think I’m helping.” She shrugged helplessly. “You should go. I hope you can be okay again.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Kate let her bag fall to the floor, but she didn’t move. “You’re everything to me. You were the very first thing that could make me feel okay, and you were the only thing that could for so long. I’m not going to be okay, but it’s not your fault, it’s Riley’s.”
“But I saw your painting. The one with the nightmare prompt. It’s not much better than your descriptions of the nightmares you had in high school.” It was a painting Kate had made when her teacher asked them to paint their worst nightmares. It was a view of Eva and Riley, visible from their lips to their knees, and Riley had her vivid red ponytail, the bright orange bow, and a knife in Eva’s stomach. Kate had made it rather than a monster or whatever in an effort to help herself deal, but all she’d done was disturb a couple of her classmates.
“How the fuck did you see that painting and think I don’t need you?” Kate held her hands out. “My worst nightmare is losing you. What part of that convinced you that you’re making things worse?”
“Kate...”
“I love you, stupid. You’re the best thing in my life and I don’t want to ever leave you.”
Eva managed a smile and rubbed away her tears. “I’m sorry I’ve been distant. I want you to be okay.”
“It’ll happen at some point. But not without you.” Kate abandoned her bag and stepped forward, reaching for Eva’s hands. “We promised each other that we’d never leave. I almost broke that promise and I’m sorry. I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
For whenever you want to do hc: Fluffy fluff kateva
I HAVE SO MANY KATEVA HEADCANONS
- Kate does all her cheers in a bored, monotone voice, and never sings along when Mattie or Reese blasts the radio, but when she’s alone, the girl can sing
- Eva finds out one afternoon when Kate thinks she’s asleep and starts singing softly to herself, and she absolutely adores Kate’s voice
- She tells Kate so and she’s really embarrassed, but she starts singing when she’s alone with Eva, too, and Eva loves it
- Kate has a really bad habit of getting into fights she can’t win, and Eva has to patch her up afterwards. She’s always mad at Kate for fighting, but she makes sure Kate still feels safe to come to her when she’s hurt, because she has to make sure she’s okay
- When she’s sleepy, Kate becomes a koala and latches onto Eva. It’s the cutest thing ever and Eva loves it
- Eva blushes really easily and Kate is always capitalizing on it
- Literally all she has to say is “you look really pretty” and Eva blushes
- They both show each other off on social media, but Eva does cute, romantic captions and Kate is more like “fuckin nerd, can’t believe she’s the love of my life”
- Kate loves to read and she likes telling Eva about what she’s been reading, and Eva likes to tell her about cool fun facts she learned
- Forehead kisses
- They have pseudo-adopted Mattie to the point where she jokingly calls them her moms, except they aren’t actually very good influences and Reese and Annleigh have to make sure they don’t accidentally kill her or get her expelled
- Kate has cats and Eva loves them almost as much as she loves Kate
- They have stayed up all night texting because neither of them want the conversation to end, even if all they’re saying is “I love you” back and forth (which has happened)
- Eva’s old teammates were assholes to her and every time they see one of them in public, Kate gets overprotective and latches onto her and kisses her a bunch. Eva doesn’t mind - she likes it when Kate gets super affectionate.
- I know you said fluff but I’ve got to do this one: ok so when Riley stabs Kate and tells her how annoying she is, Kate says “I’ll be better,” and one night when Kate stays the night, Eva wakes up to Kate crying in her sleep and swearing “I’ll be better” over and over again, and she wakes Kate up and Kate breaks down about that night, about the fact that she knows Riley wanted to kill her and seriously considered it, and Eva tells her that she’s safe from Riley and she doesn’t need to be better and she’s very, very loved and from that moment on, Kate starts to realize Eva loves all of her, the good and the bad, and that is when she starts to fall in love with her
- Eva doesn’t wear an orange bow when they’re cheering even though she’s supposed to, and the reason she gives is because she doesn’t like it, but it’s actually because orange bows remind Kate of Riley and it gives her flashbacks to being stabbed and Eva can’t do anything about the other ones, but she can keep Kate from associating orange bows with her
- Kate doesn’t initiate conversations about anything serious in Eva’s life. She’s there to listen if Eva wants to talk, but she’s also there to be Eva’s escape from real life and all of the responsibilities expected of her
if you want to write it, a meet the parents fic but it’s kateva and angst to hurt comfort because i like my heart broken -cotmlc
THANK YOU, CO-PRESIDENT, FOR RELIEVING MY HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE, SOUL-CRUSHING BOREDOM
Also, seeing as this is angst, I’m switching the prompt up just a little. My headcanon is that Eva’s mom is the Best Mom and Kate’s parents are Trying (And Failing A Little But Overall Doing Their Best), so we’re getting Kate’s more-homophobic-grandparents instead for the Angst Factor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, yes, Kate was nervous.
Like, super nervous.
Eva had sworn up and down that she loved Kate no matter what, and while that did help her fear of losing her, she was still scared this afternoon was going to make Eva run away. Even if she didn’t, though, Kate was still expecting hell.
Her maternal grandparents were thoroughly convinced that Kate’s sarcastic, cynical, girls-and-flannel-loving personality was Just A Phase and she’d grow out of it and start wearing pink and giggling and liking guys any moment now. Obviously, that wasn’t happening. When she’d joined the cheer squad, they’d been so excited, Kate almost felt bad about disappointing them.
Almost. She didn’t actually feel bad about it.
Actually, her grandparents were one of the only things that told Kate her mom really and truly supported her sexuality. Sure, she was insecure about it, and had once asked her if she thought it was “just a phase,” but she always defended Kate whenever her grandparents asked if she was interested in anyone and she answered with “Bridget” or “Emily” or “Jennifer.”
Her mom’s mediocre support aside, Kate had been postponing this meeting for as long as she could. She and Eva had officially been together since February, and now it was July. She’d met Eva’s mother, uncle, and siblings, and Eva had met her parents and brothers. She knew for a fact that Eva had Chess’s letter tucked safely in a dresser drawer and that she reread it often. They even regularly said “I love you” now. And yet, her grandparents had only recently even learned Eva existed.
Just like always, Kate and her parents were hosting the Dalton family’s annual 4th of July party. Typically, Kate would be forced to greet everyone and then would run up to her room to read or play on her phone, or - before Derrick and Jack had left for college and gotten so distant - she and her brothers would be in the basement, playing video games Kate probably shouldn’t have been playing when she was ten. Today, though, was going to be a bit different.
Kate’s grandmother had recently joined Facebook without her knowledge, which proved to be problematic at the end of the year. Kate’s mom had made her usual post, congratulating Derrick on finishing his first year of grad school, Jack on his sophomore year of college, and Kate on her junior year of high school. The picture of Kate she had chosen to post was one Eva had posted to Instagram (and one she’d asked permission to use, which Kate and Eva both appreciated) (the caption was very sweet, irrelevant to this story, and was “GCHS cheer fucking sucks but at least I’ve got you, I love you so much”), which was a photo of the two of them after their last cheer competition. In the photo, Eva had her arm around Kate and was kissing her cheek, and it was very obvious that they were a couple.
Kate’s grandmother saw the photo.
Kate’s first reaction when her mom told her was to freeze and think fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck SHIT fuck fuck fuck - which she thought was a very logical first reaction. Her second reaction was freak the fuck out.
One thing had led to another, and now Eva had been invited to join the Dalton family Independence Day celebrations.
She showed up a little bit before everyone else, just because that’s how Eva was, and Kate dragged her down into the basement so she could rant about how scared she was.
“My cousins are just like Lily and they’ll love you and my aunts and uncles are great and Dad’s parents are pretty cool but Mom’s parents are going to hate you,” she ranted, pacing back and forth while Eva watched from the couch. “This might have been a really bad idea.”
“It’ll be fine, Katie,” Eva tried to sooth. “You’ve literally survived a stab wound, they can’t be much worse.”
“My grandparents meeting my girlfriend? Yeah, I think I’d rather get stabbed again.”
“I think you’re overreacting.”
“You won’t think that when they show up.” Kate stopped pacing and hugged herself, trying to calm her anxiety. “Promise you’ll stay?”
“I promise.” Eva stood up and hugged her, and Kate finally managed to breathe. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” Kate wanted Eva to hold her like that for the rest of the day, but the doorbell rang and Jack shouted for them to come upstairs and it was time to face the music.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Her paternal grandparents showed up first and, like Kate predicted, immediately adored Eva. They’d asked her at least four dozen questions before Kate’s aunt showed up a few minutes later, and as her relatives trickled in, Kate began to suspect that this was turning into less of a “family Independence Day!” party and more of a “Kate’s actually gay and has a girlfriend now, wow, time to overwhelm her” party. She’d made a deal with Jack and Derrick beforehand, having predicted what would happen, and invoked it now, leaving them to entertain their relatives while Kate pulled Eva into the backyard and onto the porch swing, where it would take several minutes for questions to reach them and they had an excuse to be as close as possible.
Kate was hoping her mom’s parents might not show up when her grandfather appeared in the doorway and her stomach sank into her beat-up shoes. He zeroed in on Kate and Eva right away and walked toward them, taking up way more space than he needed to like always.
“Kate, it’s been a while,” he boomed, and Kate winced.
“Hey, Grandpa,” she said, trying not to sound too sarcastic. “This is Eva.” Eva awkwardly waved, then put her hand down.
“It’s nice to meet you,” she said, and Kate felt really bad about dragging her into this.
“You must be Kate’s friend,” he nearly yelled (why the fuck did he have to be so loud?) and Kate nearly straight-up attacked him.
I’m basically in her lap right now! What the fuck do you mean, my “friend”?
Jack caught her eye from across the porch and gave her a sympathetic look before looking back at their elderly great-grandmother.
“Girlfriend, actually,” Kate corrected. “We’re dating. We’re a couple. Definitely not friends.”
“Right, of course.” Her grandfather winked at her, and she nearly screamed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The day did not get much better.
When her grandmother came out, she was about as subtle as her husband had been about how she didn’t actually believe Kate and Eva were in love (maybe? In love felt a little bit strong, but it also seemed to be the best term for it and Kate didn’t have time to think of a better way to put it) and thought they were just good friends. Then, when she stood up to go and get her phone so she could show her aunt a picture of their cheer squad and Eva’s hand wasn’t covering her scar anymore, her aunt screamed and brought three people running, pinning all the attention on Kate in a really bad way.
After a few hours, Kate whispered something in Eva’s ear and stepped away, into the garage, trying to catch her breath and calm down. The door opened, and rather than being Eva or one of her brothers like she’d hoped, she opened her eyes to see her grandmother.
“I saw you leave and wanted to make sure you were okay, honey.”
“I’m fine, Grandma. Just needed a moment.” She clenched her teeth and prayed her grandmother would leave. She didn’t.
“Eva seems nice,” she continued.
“She is.” Kate almost started to hope that maybe, maybe, her grandmother would start to take her relationship seriously. “I’m lucky to have her.”
“You seem like really good friends.” Fuck, there it was.
“Okay, you know what? Knock it off!” Kate didn’t mean to blow up, but she couldn’t help it now. “It doesn’t matter how much you deny it, it’s not going to change the fact that I’m not the granddaughter you have in your head! I love Eva, okay? I love someone who’s name is Eva and not Evan. I love her and I’m a lesbian and I’m so tired of you not taking me and my relationships seriously like you do Jack and Derrick!” Then she stormed past her and up to her room, her eyes stinging with tears.
After about twenty minutes, there was a gentle knock on the door.
“Go away,” she mumbled.
“Katie?”
“Oh. You can come in.”
Eva opened the door and then closed it behind herself. “Are you okay? Your grandmother says you totally lost your shit at her.”
“I kinda did.”
“I’m not surprised.” Eva sat next to her, and Kate sat up and crawled into her arms. “They’ve been assholes to us all day.”
“I just really love you, Eva, and I want them to understand that.” Kate’s voice was muffled by Eva’s shirt. “I want them to take you seriously as my girlfriend and stop trying to deny it. I-I want them to accept that I’m not the perfect granddaughter they wanted. I’m not perfect.”
“And thank God. If you were perfect, how would I make fun of you for how atrocious you are at skateboarding? How would I keep you from fighting some people and watch you fight others?” Eva pulled her a little bit tighter and laid down, Kate still curled up in her arms. “I hate your grandparents, but I love you more.”
“Promise you’ll stay?”
“Promise.”

Everyone has that one relative who denies your sexuality, right? I’m not out to my family as lesbian, just as ace, and I still think they don’t quite get it. But hey, everyone’s got someone who has their back, right? I hope this was angsty enough!!!!!!

Do what you will with this, but Six/WATT crossover headcanons. I’m curious
Ok so this took awhile bc I wanted to think about how to go about this:
I decided on an AU where the girls are actresses who are in Six
I fancasted them a while ago, but now I’m switching up the alts a little:
Aragon: Cairo
Boleyn: Riley
Seymour: Annleigh
Cleves: Chess
Howard: Mattie
Parr: Eva
First cover Seymour/Cleves, black: Reese
First cover Aragon/Howard, teal: Farrah
First cover Boleyn/Parr, orange: Kate
(Reese, Farrah, and Kate all complete Swingo btw)
- Cairo and Riley, and Kate and Chess already knew each other before, but everyone else is new
- Reese was actually the second choice for the black alternate but she dropped out and they got Reese
- Kate likes covering Boleyn more even though she loves singing IDNYL, because she likes being onstage with Eva
- (Also the entire queendom shipped them until they got together)
- (And once they kissed (edit: the hand kiss) onstage during Megasix and the entire collective queendom freaked out)
- Eva was the most famous of all of them before they started because she was Peggy/Maria in Hamilton and Riley was starstruck when they got to work together
- Cairo’s favorite part of her costume is the gold chains
- The girl who hates the high heels the most is actually Mattie, because she always thinks she’s going to fall or twist her ankle or something (Kate is a close second though)
- Kate almost got casted as primary Parr until Eva showed up
- Also Farrah was almost primary Howard
- Chess absolutely loves Get Down and is always singing it under her breath while they get ready
- Dressing rooms are: Kate, Eva, Mattie; Chess, Cairo, Riley; Farrah, Reese, Annleigh
- Kate used to be with the other alts but she fought too much with Farrah so she and Annleigh switched
- This switch also coincidentally happened around the time she and Eva started dating
- The two events were not related (wink)
- Wow this is turning into actresses!Kateva oops
- Farrah loves to cover Howard because she loves the roast speech, but she also loves screaming at whoever’s playing Boleyn when she’s Aragon
- Riley sometimes makes murder puns
- It low-key freaks the other girls out
- Clark works as a lighting techie and Annleigh falls head-over-heels the second she sees him
- Like it’s embarrassing to watch
- One day Farrah locks them in the lighting booth together and only avoids getting in trouble because it actually works
- Chess once fell off the stage during rehearsals and hurt her knee, and Kate, Farrah, and Reese were all already on, so they did what Sixcago did when Sam Pauly did that and held a different sort of Six
- (I don’t remember what exactly they did but look up “Megasix Sam Pauly Beastmode” on YouTube and there’s a Megasix from that performance)
- Wow okay I love this AU
- Thank you so much for asking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also WATT Asks 12, 13, and 19! (And how dare you make one of the questions "did the shower kill Farrah?" That is a personal attack, I am soo *offended*)
No comment on “did the shower kill Farrah”
Edit: I confused 1 and 12, and answered 1 when I didn’t mean to. Just gonna leave both here, I guess
1) Favorite song?
Before the Breakdown. That is a song I honestly feel in my soul. My dad thinks the constant harsh repetition of “better” ruins the song, but that kind of desperate “they think I’m better but I’m not” is honestly something I can relate to and I think the harsh repetition makes it better.
12) Favorite ship?
Kateva!! I love it when two characters who have had it rough find happiness in each other, plus canon wlw is always awesome!!!
13) Which character would you want to play?
My first choice would be Kate, my second would be Eva, and my third would be Farrah or Mattie.
19) Whose part do you sing in Don’t Even?
Kate again.......... I kind of have a Kate obsession..........
