The fucking choking noise I made when I tuned into a podcast for my run and heard a recent favorite actor go, “I’m still on Tumblr, don’t tell anyone.”

Is it weird that I want recs of books with kidnapping?
Not at all! I love kidnapping books. Totally natural. There's a reason why it's a mainstay in the genre.
Historical:
A Rose at Midnight by Anne Stuart. This is a dark historical romance, so TW for past sexual assault of the heroine (not by the hero, but described fairly explicitly), the Reign of Terror in France, and some preeeetty heavy dubcon with the hero. I know a lot of discussion has been had about what constitutes enemies to lovers... THIS. IS. IT. The heroine attempts to poison the hero (she actually does poison him, he just doesn't die as she was planning) for revenge early in the book, then escapes his clutches after he figures out it was her. He chases her down and kidnaps her. Ridiculously good and stupid hot if you're down for some true loooooathing and very complicated feelings.
Shadowheart by Laura Kinsale. Allegreto kidnaps Elayne/Elena to force her to marry him as a part of his Evil Scheme. Noncon first encounter, Kinsale is very true to medieval values--Elena's honestly more bugged by the complications that come with her not being a virgin anymore than anything else, AND I will say this is one of the most fascinating sex scenes I've ever read, because when she bites his shoulder he comes like, immediately and looks at her like FRIGHTENED after, and she realizes that it's because he gave up the game and revealed his fetish for pain/being dominated. Which she does use against him! DELICIOUS.
The Hawk by Monica McCarty. This is kind of a medieval kidnapping of convenience. The hero fishes the heroine out of the water and basically hauls her along with him because she's the daughter of an enemy. He's a pretty jolly kidnapper.
The Last Crimes of Peregrine Hind by Sierra Simone. This is an m/m kidnapping. This highwayman kidnaps a dandy because revenge and ransom reasons, and the dandy is like "I can work with this". Much sex enues, and it's GREAT.
A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught. Classic medieval kidnapping; the heroine is Scottish, and the English hero has his men kidnap her (and her sister, I think?) because war. Unfortunately for him, this girl is PSYCHOTIC.
Seduce Me at Sunrise by Lisa Kleypas. Not a traditional kidnapping, but Kev does kidnap Win as a part of some marriage tradition stuff--ties her up and everything. She is VERY enthusiastic about being kidnapped because she's been begging for his dick for the entire book, and he does give it to her for like 24 hours straight.
Duke of Desire by Elizabeth Hoyt. This is one where the hero kidnaps the heroine and forces her to marry him to keep her safe from the villains, but he then refuses to consummate the marriage because he has some pretty severe trauma from being sexually abused as a child (TW, obviously). The heroine wants children, so this presents a problem.
Scandalous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt. This is kind of a coerced kidnapping--Mickey left his infant daughter on orphanage lady Silence's doorstep, and she's been raising the baby for months and has fallen in love with her. So when Mickey takes the baby back (because his enemies are after him and he doesn't want her used against him) she comes running, and he's basically like, if you want the baby you have to stay in captivity here. She agrees.
The Dragon and The Pearl by Jeannie Lin. DELICIOUS. The hero is a warlord, and the heroine is the previous emperor's concubine. He's sure she knows secrets, so he kidnaps her to get them out of her. Sadly, she is very smart, and he finds this Difficult.
Contemporary:
Possession by Adriana Anders. This is more of a kidnapping kink--the heroine fantasizes about being kidnapped, so her husband enlists his buddy to help him fulfill that fantasy in a BIG way. A threesome ensues!
Mafia:
Mafia Mistress by Mila Finelli. Fausto kidnaps Frankie so that she can marry his son, Giulio. However, Fausto ends up being muuuuch more into her, so he pivots to making her his mistress. Duology, leads into Mafia Darling.
Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli. Enzo blows up a bar and fakes Gia's death in order to kidnap her for revenge (against Fausto; this one stands alone, but I'd recommend reading them in order). He then keeps her in a cage on his yacht and intends to humiliate her, but she actually turns out to be almost as batshit insane as he is, and it gets Out of Hand.
The Professional by Kresley Cole. The hero in this book kidnaps the heroine on the orders of his boss (her biological father). But, after he gets her off in a cornfield, things get complicated...
The Master by Kresley Cole. In this one, the heroine is initially a sex worker hired by the hero, and they hit it off. However, she realizes she missed her birth control or something, and they had unprotected sex during her fertile window, and he's VERY pissed and kidnaps her to wait it out. Much more sex is had, and a chastity belt is involved. Loooove.
Dark:
King's Captive by Amber Bardan. The heroine is kidnapped by the hero on the day he crashes her birthday party and kills everyone there, including her dad. Then we jump three years into the future. This one has... quite a twist.
Paranormal:
Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. The hero is an ancient dragon shifter, and the heroine steals one (1) penny from his horde as a part of a job she's blackmailed into doing. He is NOT PLEASED and chases her down and kidnaps her. However, he's also quickly like "I like the way she smells and her pretty hair and I want to keep her forever".
The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole. Nikolai (a vampire) kidnaps Myst (a valkyrie) as revenge/also just to claim her because she left him with a literally unending boner for FIVE. YEARS. So his long game is to basically keep her captive and shower her with sexual pleasure until she agrees to stay with him forever. Some pretty heavy dubcon/noncon, but in a "she is loving this but says she doesn't" kind of way.
A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. Lachlain (a werewolf) realizes Emma (a valkyrie/vampire hybrid) is his mate and kidnaps her because, you know, mating, even though he's VERY displeased about this, what with being tortured by vampires for 150 years. Noncon/dubcon involved.
Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole. A lady kidnapping a man! Sabine kidnaps Rydstrom and sexually tortures him in an effort to get him to fuck her and get her pregnant as a part of her brother's nefarious schemes. Dubcon, obvi, though he for sure gets her back on that score...
Lothaire by Kresley Cole. Lothaire keeps Ellie on death row, and when she decides to just not fight it and die he's like "WOW. RUDE." and kidnaps her because he believes she's the vessel for his actual fated mate, an evil goddess. (He is, in fact, incorrect.) One of my favorite things about this is that he has magical wards set up to keep her from escaping his penthouse apartment, so he just sits there and counts down as she runs to try to throw herself out a window or something and nods when he hears her like, bounce off a force field lmao. LOVE THEIR LOVE.
The Fae Queen's Captive by Sierra Simone. F/f kidnapping. The heroine is kidnapped by the fae queen for Mysterious Purposes and becomes her pet. Not a bad gig.
Sci-fi:
Barbarian Alien by Ruby Dixon. The heroine is kidnapped by her fated alien mate, which is very against the rules because these aliens are Feminist Kings. Fortunately for him, she is very horny and decides to go with it.
Barbarian Mine by Ruby Dixon. In this one, the hero is a SUPER barbarian alien, because he was literally raised off the grid by his dad who died when he was young (his dad raised him off the grid because he did in fact kidnap the hero's mom). He kidnaps the heroine because mating bond, and she's also like ".... fine".

Off topic, and file this under nobody cares: K, when you eat cilantro does it taste like soap to you? To me it tastes fresh and herbaceous!
I don't even know what it tastes like tbh... 😂
I can't describe it but it's just... unpleasant! 😣
But like I said: mixed in with other taco toppings I can live with it these days! 🤭🤷🏼‍♀️
Same thing happened with coconut milk: I absolutely LOOOOOATHE coconut as a coconut, but I have grown to love coconut milk/cream in curry foods! 🤷🏼‍♀️🥥
Do you have some food items that give you the 🤢s?

I like pro wrestling and I have for a really long time. I loooooathe “wrestling twitter” and essentially all online fan discussion of wrestling. I don’t engage in it or hang out in fan spaces at all.
While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, where your data comes from and how you come by it makes a difference. Where twitter is concerned, people literally just be out here saying anything regardless of how wrong it is and other people mindlessly repeat it cuz they like to argue, feel right, and feel like they know better than the next idiot, who usually isn’t any better informed than the last idiot.
I’m not an expert or a megasuperfan. I’m not a weirdo AEW hater, I also don’t watch WWE at all and haven’t for like 15 years. I’m not trying to be age-ist, Cornette-ist, or act like I’m Mr. Old School. I won’t even mention the first wrestling event I ever went to, nor the most recent one, but I’ll fuckin’ tell you this.
When I was 14, I saw Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan wrestle on Monday Nitro, in my home town, in trunks that looked like they were representing a battle of ketchup vs. mustard. If you weren’t watching wrestling at that point in time and *especially* if you weren’t even alive then? Your opinion is of no interest or importance to me whatsoever.

call for: friendly mocking of uppsala!
stockholmers are really bad at mocking other cities because we... just dont care....
but realising uppsala, which is the fourth biggest city in sweden (which doesnt say much i most add. we are very few people but) is so near us. we should develop a “mocking uppsala thing” i feel?
like....
someone has any suggestions on how to mock uppsala, in a friendly rivarly kinda way? i know how to mock their uni (its a uni for snobs, in stockholm we better cause we live in trash and WE ARE HAPPY ABOUT IT), but otherwise i draw blank in the “mocking uppsala” category
some cities out there in sweden, got these epic rivarlies going on. sundsvall and härnösand forexemple. those two cities, they loooooath eachother.
cant stockholm get this too?
(and before you say gothenburg. no doesnt count. its one sided. the only one who is doing it is gothenburg. stockholm meanwhile is like “i wonder what they are doing across the pond in helsinki right now? hmmmmm”)

35 & 48 my sweet sam 💌
Haley! Precious! Soft lil muffin! 🥺
35: would you prefer to propose or be proposed to? what’s your dream proposal?
Okay, I have been proposed too! I guess I’m technically engaged rn, but I honestly don’t see the point of being married anymore. Not that I dislike it! I’ve been with my partner since I was 20, I’m almost 29 now. We have 2 kids, and I got pregnant literally the month before he was going to propose to me almost 4 years ago. When you have kids with someone, you realize how unimportant that piece of paper is. It’s truly just a legality. I totally adore and love the idea of being with someone who’s your soulmate forever, but I don’t necessarily think I need the government to o-k it, ya know? Idk just a bunch of blabble there 😂
My ideal proposal? Something that shows me how much the person proposing knows me. Full of inside jokes, memories, and nuances that only we share. Significant and personal. Also make it a surprise because I am literally impossible to surprise 🙃
48: walk on the park or on the beach?
Definitely the park! (I loooooathe the beach.)

Time to write up KnK movie SIX, aka Golly Gee That Was a Tonal Shift! feat. Azaka (Also Shiki Does a Whole Fight Scene With a Butterknife and It’s Lowkey the Best Part of the Movie)
-Seriously the opening to this movie is downright surreal in contrast to the rest of them... the peppy piano music over the opening title? Azaka’s first person narration where she tells us about herself and it feels like the voiceover should be over a scene of her running to school with toast in her mouth or something? Azaka looking over her shoulder and winking at the camera??? In a bold experiment with style, ufotable has decided that this movie will be framed as a vlog post
Azaka: That’s all for now my lovelies! If you want more supernatural mysteries like this, make sure to hit that like button!
Shiki: who are you talking to
-In this opening narration Azaka also cheerfully informs the audience that she’s in love with her older brother and has organised her whole adolescent life around trying to get him to feel the same way, including moving away so they don’t grow up together and the psychological instinct that prevents incest doesn’t kick in
Tumblr media
-Touko never does anything--least of all HELP anyone--without a personal motive. So I’m 99% sure Touko hired Azaka just to see what sort of entertaining disaster would happen by giving this child fire powers
-Touko if the city burns down I am holding you responsible
-(Touko knows this, and probably has twelve fake passports and three fake bodies ready to disappear into the night and have her office replaced by a hardware store within hours of this happening)
-Anyway, Touko forces Shiki and Azaka into a Get Along Shirt and sends them to investigate a school together. Because of course Azaka loooooathes Shiki for getting between her and her brother, because the Universe heard me happily talking about how movie 5 didn’t have a love triangle
This is actual dialogue between Shiki and Azaka:
youtube
-Look I’m honestly mad because “I can see someone I care about becoming embroiled in crazy supernatural shit thus I vow to become EVEN BETTER at crazy supernatural shit to protect them” is definitely not a bad character motivation, in fact it’s really quite heartwarming, but here it’s framed a) as comic rather than with any dramatic weight, and b) through incestuous romantic desires and envious rage rather than...... god, anything else would have been fine, really. There are perfectly valid reasons to see Shiki as threatening and someone you don’t want your cherished relatives near, but this potentially interesting moral conundrum of whether or not we should trust the series’ protagonist (which could have made a really tense argument between the siblings as well as a poignant question to the audience) is set aside in favour of love triangle shenanigans that none of the characters beside Azaka herself even seem to take particularly seriously. It’s a weirdly shallow (and as I said weirdly comedic) departure from what’s become the norm in the character drama in these movies. And because this weirdly shallow, weirdly comedic relationship melodrama is given so much focus thanks to this film being an episode of Azaka’s vlog, it makes the other conflicts and character dramas--including those of the villains--feel shallow to match, since there isn’t enough time and weight spent on them to flesh them out properly.
-If I seem mad at Azaka it is because I’m mad at her wasted potential, lack of depth, jarring out-of-nowhere cuteness and ultimate lack of satisfying motivation or character development. And you know what’s wild?? This problem sounds as familiar as Azaka looks. It serves as foreshadowing for a lot of the problems ufo adaptations will have with Rin in future days. Though at least incest-played-as-a-character-quirk wasn’t one of those problems....
-Someone in power at ufotable has a Type and I’m here to waifu-shame them
Tumblr media
-Was there anything I liked about this movie, I hear you ask? Well, as jarring as the sudden appearance of Celtic folklore was in a story world that has so far been pretty rooted in Japanese magic and philosophy, I admittedly dig the memory-stealing fairies. I especially enjoy how they can only steal that which is truly remembered (and thus they can’t steal something a person has themselves forgotten or lost to the back of their subconscious)--it was a fun bit of magic-logic, treating something as conceptual and ethereal as memories like physical objects
-I knew not to trust the teacher dude because he looked just like Kuzuki. This isn’t even about archetypes anymore, this is about character designs giving the twist away.
-Oh also, I liked the dog, and I liked how nothing bad happened to the dog
-Shiki is a cat-like person who gets along with dogs... truly both Yin and Yang represented within her
-Though this also represents Shiki getting along with an animal better than she is ever destined to get along with Azaka.........
-Like this was the perfect opportunity for them to sort their stuff out and come away bonded but they were bickering (well, Azaka bickering at Shiki, Shiki not caring much) the whole time they were together, and doing separate investigations and action scenes the rest of the time. If you’re going to introduce a character conflict like this the least you can do is give me some closure on it. As it is their relationship is basically in the same place as when the story started, just as Azaka’s relationship with Mikiya is in the same weird place as when the story started, with only the teensiest bit of self-reflection that ultimately means nothing at all
-I just. I go out of my way to not watch anime comedies where one of the jokes is a little sister in love with her big brother and then you go and insert one into the urban fantasy mystery series I was watching while minding my own business
Tumblr media
-ANYWAY
-Shiki fighting that dude with the dinner knife was very cool
-HMMM so how ‘bout that after credits scene??
-Bloody Araya sowing the seeds of discord even after he’s dead. I totally forgot about that snippet we saw of the dude in the alley. I think I must have assumed it was Enjou. But sure does look like the third magical nasty is in place to go after Shiki...

Get to know the author || Highkey accepting
3) what order do you write in? front of book to back? chronological? favorite scenes first? something else?
Uhm, as a general rule I try to write in order, but sprinkled in that order are random bouts of intense inspiration for certain scenes. And whenever that happens, I drop what I’m doing because I’ve had it happen before that I’ve tried to put it off and ended up losing details of the scene and I loooooathe that so much. So in order but not like, strictly. If a scene comes to me, I ain’t gonna be mad.
Case in point; for my Anomalies series, I have the final scene for the final book written already. ( it’s gonna be badass )
9) what, if anything, do you do for inspiration?
Nothing specific to be honest? I mostly have inspiration for at least something every day, be it a roleplay muse or a novel muse. Some days my fingers won’t cooperate and those days I usually call it quits and just do RL stuff. I did have this awful months-long period of writers block and finally I just sat down and forced myself to write. It was complete shit and got the crap edited out of it, but it was something and it definitely kick-started my writing again and helped break the writer’s block.
But we don’t talk about what was written in that time. It’s a dark time for me as a writer lol
11) what aspect of your writing do you think has most improved since you started writing?
Two things actually; 1. My ability to multi-facet a character. 2. Diversification. I think roleplaying helped the most with both of those, being exposed to so many different writers with different voices playing different characters with different motivations just like, blew my mind when I first started. There were these characters that you never really thought about ( brief mentions or even mc’s from books that had main focuses, love or the battle at hand and ones you never got to see in a non life-or-death situation ) being given these amazing backstories and motivations and thought processes. And it really opened up my eyes to how you can’t really write a realistic character, even a minor one, without at least sort of thinking about them as a genuine, multi-faceted person with their own thought processes and motivations.
