One thing that really got me about this update is that while they’re back on the road now and Twi is alright…it’s not a victorious departure. It’s sorrowful, it’s fearful, and it’s ridden with guilt and regrets about what just happened

Their body language says it even more than their words do. They’re slumped, they’re tense, they’re frowning rather than smiling. Hardly anyone cracks a joke this time around.
Their journey is beginning to take a toll on them. And although the Shadow just suffered a crushing defeat he doesn’t have the same emotional aspect that our heroes have had — and continue to have — to deal with.
I definitely foresee some arguments — maybe even physical altercations — in the future. That alone makes them vulnerable to the Shadow’s revenge (which previous updates have shown he doesn’t hesitate to exact. He’s angry. He’s coming for the heroes. Especially Twilight.)
I look forward to seeing how this will all play out

LAST MOVIE I SAW (IN THEATRES) - mission impossible: fallout, which was very good but not the series best, though they always score a lot of versimilitude bc yeah, tom cruise did that.
LAST MOVIE I SAW (TV) - exposed (2016) w keanu and ana de armas, which is nearly good, but (spoiler) i hate ‘the ghosts were hallucinations’ almost as much as 'greek myths without the gods’ as a subgenre so the ending annoyed me
LAST SHOW I WATCHED - i tried to watch the outpost and haven’t gotten into it yet, so, mainlining the first four episodes of killjoys s4 to get caught up, now i need to go back two weeks on wynonna earp s3

WHY DID I CHOOSE MY URL - my tumblr id is a hackers reference. my actual domain name is an abbreviation of nyarlathotep i bought back in 05? when i was going to go full on with cthulhu and pals but i never quite did. see also my eldritch mermaids comic i need to make more of, what we do in the shallows. both were resurrected as projects for a writing comics class last year.

FOLLOWED BY - 2095?! that’s just the total though, more like five to ten amazing ppl i still can’t believe followed me, about twenty five? mutuals i regularly interact with, and then like two thousand bots, randos, haters, and quiet types
BLOCKED BY - itswalky, for one of several reasons possibly but i don’t know which

Sho-jo-ji (The Hungry Raccoon) - Eartha Kitt 1955 - 証城寺
One of the joys of music that i maybe had not given more consideration is sheer delight. Sometimes, you like a song just because it is purely delightful. This is one of mine.
What do i mean by delight? I mean whatever it is about some particular song that fills one with happiness. And in my longish life, i have noticed that there is often no real rhyme or reason to what makes you happy. Not really.
Eartha Kitt is one of my heroes. I've read her bio - cliche be damned, she IS a true inspiration. Born a poor bastard in an America that was certainly unforgiving to her kind, she triumphed. She famously made Ladybird Johnson cry and for a very good reason. "Ladybird, why do you send our beautiful black young men to die in Vietnam?" It was a jarring moment at a White House tea party but it needed to be said. And it cost her dearly professionally for a long time as that rat bastard, Lyndon Johnson, saw to it that she did not work in the USA for a very long time. (To be fair, Johnson is a complicated character - key to the final passage of the Civil Rights Act, but also a person i can totally see calling Eartha a "Nigger bitch".)
Eartha also prolly slept with James Dean and Orson Welles. For all i know, she may have slept with Dwight D. Eisenhower. I am certain they crossed paths at the least.
Eartha's most famous song is her rendition of "Santa Baby" - a mercenary little tune  where Eartha demands that Santa bring her Cadillacs and real estate. Easily, a perfect fit for Christmas these days. Eartha sadly (Is any death ironic?) also died on Christmas Day, 2008. Sealing her fate as the lady who sang that Christmas song. (An aside: acquaintances of mine were guests at a Christmas party during the Bush years. Eartha Kitt was set to perform - a rare instance of a Republican righting a Democrat’s wrong. They arrived late and did not see her sing, but they did see her frail old body doddering around the room, looking at the bottom of vases and ashtrays. I wish they had seen her slip one into her purse which would be a much better story, but no such luck. Eartha was a “class act” and at any rate i am sure she was looking on the bottom of things to see if they were truly valuable. I bet they were not to her eyes.)
Oh! and she was an unearthly beautiful person physically.
Of course none of these things has anything to do with why i love, love, love this song! (Which i only recently discovered on youTube.) Eartha, it should be noted was supposedly fluent in many languages. She certainly sang songs in almost any language you could name. French, Italian, German... Hell! she had a hit song in Turkish, for crying out loud! So it shouldn't be a surprise that Eartha covered this delightful Japanese folk song. It's not sung in Japanese but sung in a style that these days might come off as racist. But of course, this song is of its time and Eartha Kitt was in no manner racist. (And i looked it up, she has sung in Japanese, too. An awesome cover of Rosemary Clooney's signature tune, "C'mon A My House".)
What makes this song a delight? The pure pleasure of the sound of the words, Sho-jo-ji. They just roll off the tongue don't they? And the goofy words tum-tum and the repetition of the phrase, "KOI! KOI! KOI!". The faux Oriental Chopstick-y piano effects. The girls singing background have a Gilbert and Sullivan "Mikado" thing going on that is amusing. It's a fun song to sing-along to, too! It will make you smile. I swear, it will.
Unless, you have no heart. And surely, you have a heart, right?
