I was waiting to see what you would think of Arknights not only because it seems to be up your alley but because it got nations based off Latin America. There's a nation literally called Bolívar with nods here and there about the US dictatorship, and you can argue it's mixed with Mexican, the Gran Colombia and Brazil influences. There's also Sargon which feels like a mix between South America and Africa - or rather, the Amazon rainforest and the Saahara desert. You can argue Eunectes and Flint are Brazilian and Peruvian respectivelly. There's also La Pluma (real name: Rafaela Silva) who's apparently Chilean?? I don't think there's a furry Argentina... at least not yet
OH YES, the moment I saw "Bolívar" I knew that was Furry Latin America, I haven't looked up much of the lore though I did get spoiled with some characters I'm learning on my own, and so far it's interesting. Completely insane but compelling. I also got very confused when they said "Columbian" because I thought it was the classic anglo mispelling of Colombian, but no, Columbia is apparently Furry United States.
I actually just got an operator from Bolívar, an electrician kid (we need to talk about Rhodes Island labor laws) named Greyy who says he wanted to study electricity to bring light to the slums he came from. Yeah. But hey, I'm headcanonning him as Argentine now. I can't wait to find more about Bolívar. Or not. We'll see.
I really like the part in the archives where you can look up all the operators, where are they from, their relationships, what squad they belong to, and all that. It's very fun to see who's friends with who and where they came from. For a character based game they really really took a lot of care with their characters and how they fit with each other, most of the time (other "hero" based games just make them individually based in "cool" concepts and they don't fit at all together, like Overwatch for example) Somehow the angel girl with a machine gun and the italian mafiosa wolf girl fit in the same universe and are coworkers and it makes sense.

I guess I really haven't mentioned the actual game part of arknights in a long time. In any case these are my 2 go-to squads and I can clear basically any content in the game with them. The left as you can see is a concept centered around the abyssal hunters; really everyone else can be swapped out as needed but I find that this setup does everything I need it to (why yes, I Do have both Spalter modules lv 3 how nice of you to notice)
the second squad is centered around by love for chen my wife chen and so the core of this squad is centered around making as much use as possible of her talent taking her, irene, thorns, blemi, mudrock, and throwing skalter support on all of them as much as possible. Goldenglow's there too b/c if you're using skalter there's no reason Not to use her too

I am fascinated with "falling from grace" stories. Chapter 8 of arknights and homura akemi's whole existence are so important to me because of this concept. And one day I would REALLY love to do justice to the fall from grace of hikari finalfantasy. So I want to talk about that a little bit right now. I think the most important part of this kind of character arc is showing how their values and thinking becomes warped over time. It's never a transition from "I want to protect everyone" to "I want to kill everyone". It's far more subtle than that. So I'm going to talk about hikari's descent.
Hikari was born right around the time Doma was taken over by garlemald (25 years ago approximately). She had never known a life of true freedom, and even though her tribe was on the edge of the empire's territory, they were still very much affected. But it wasn't as horrible as in other places. Her tribe chose not to rise up against the empire to avoid incurring their wrath, and as a result of growing up in this environment, hikari believed that defying the empire would mean death for her family. It's dangerous to defy the empire. So at age 17, she willingly conscripted into the garlean army, along with some of the other tribe members. They were mostly kept in the area, so hikari always felt like she was protecting her family from people with dangerous ideas. Over the next few years, influenced by the soldiers around her, she grew to see rebels as foolish. Didn't they know they were going to die? It's stupid to defy the empire. They should just submit. It would keep their families safe. Hikari's fighting prowess and loyalty earned her a position of leadership over a small squad of soldiers, and used her good standing to score a brief vacation to return home for the first time in 3 years. However, the home she returned to was gone, replaced with charred wreckage and unidentifiable bodies. She learned that a small group had attempted a rebellion and for that, the entire tribe was wiped out. It was *horrible* to defy the empire. It was the rebels who had gotten her family killed. So she became hateful, and with hate came cruelty and rage and paranoia. The next three years saw hikari, unbound by the desire to protect and spurred on by grief, go from thinking of rebels as individual troublemakers and small groups to thinking of them as hidden militias, organized armies, and eventually, the entire population of Doma. She became a weapon to be aimed wherever her commanders ordered, and she held nothing back against any foe. After all, they were all rebels, and it was dangerous to let these fools live. They could take even more from her. And they did, inevitably, as her companions who had left the tribe with her fell in combat, and were replaced with faceless conscripts as if they had never mattered. By the time she was 23, she had changed from a bright-hearted young girl to a being of pure darkness. A murderer. A torturer. And she enjoyed it, really. It was what they deserved for taking everything from her. For their stupidity. It was unforgivable to defy the empire.
Obviously she's a better person now. Not that she believes it. But she knows better than anyone how easy it is to fall into darkness, and she knows that no matter how bad you are, you can come back from it and be a better person, one worthy of living. It has to be true, because the alternative is. Well, she'd rather not think about it.

I swear, the writers at Mica Team level up after each major event. And Singularity wasn't even bad, it's just that Isomer was great, SC was phenomenal, and PL has my brain buzzing in ways that don't happen often. I love this weird visual novel cosplaying as a tactical rpg gacha game with a heartfelt passion. And I'm a huge fan of the way the lore just keeps unfolding revelations about the past and prospects for the future. I'm genuinely in love with Girl's Frontline, and I wish I had more people to discuss it with.

Ambience Synesthesia might be Hypergryph finding new ways to market Arknights to us, both in transcending the weird marching band phase that chinese anime games are going through (or maybe it's just Hypergryph and Mica Team one-upping each other), and as a way of milking the holographic concert thing that Hatsune Miku made popular.
But in universe, I'm convinced this is the result of someone (probably Blaze) proposing a battle of the bands, and things promptly escalated (because Blaze is involved) until literally every operator was involved. EVERY. OPERATOR. The Rainbow 6 isekai squad are arguing about whether they're singing in English or Russian. Mostima, Skadi, and the various other vaguely affiliated souls who drift in and out of the landship have all been dragged back for this. Penguin Logistics is so bogged down with orders for musical equipment, they have no time to practice. Kal'tsit is pinching her brow and glaring at anyone who suggests she should get involved. The end result will be a week-long music festival the likes of which Terra will never see again.

After much careful consideration, I've finally deduced that the Doctor is an Aegirian, most likely hailing from Iberia at some point in the distant past. They're clearly well educated, they seem well traveled, and, aside from a minor case of SERIOUS brain damage impairing anything to do with memories of home, they also show no especial attachment to the concept. Appropriate for the Iberians we've met. Being an Aegirian means no horns or animal ears to poke up under that hood, and possibly even a non-existent tail. It would be easy to hide a short tail under that coat, but that hood/helmet combo makes other features a pain to have without visible signs of accommodation.
But all these facts are secondary to the basis of my keen deduction. The Doctor must be Aegirian, because the Aegirian race includes all aquatic life, such as amphibians, cetaceans, and sharks. And the Doctor is a whale.

Pramanix's recruitment is hilarious to think about. I know this isn't really an original thought, but just... The sheer absurdity is amazing. You look up from your desk just in time to see this really pretty snow leopard girl in a mori-girl-turned-priestess-robe sneaking into your office and asking to join your weirdly holy union of Doctors Without Borders and the Blackwater PMC. Oh, and could you keep your voice down? She's not just any priestess, but the literal Pope of her religion, and she's kinda here on the down low since she kinda sorta snuck out of her own papal offices to come here and help, and she'd really prefer not to go back if it's up to you.
And of course you have to explain this to Kal'tsit later, who's looking at you like you just sprouted three heads for taking on such a high profile person as an operator INCOGNITO, and do you have any idea what kind of trouble this could cause down the road? But you've already stamped the forms, so it's too late to say anything now.

Studio Trigger is proof that, contrary to popular opinion, Men absolutely know how to write women. Frequently can write excellent female characters if they try. All the bad examples of women that we see are the products of hacks who use trite stereotypes to cover up their inability to write a human being.
