Created in 2017, “Tired Of The Scenery” focuses on feelings of isolation. An unfinished figure sits alone in an unfurnished room. Behind them is a door that could provide a change a scenery, a way out, the figure looks away from it, however. We don’t know why because we do not know what they’re feeling. I created this painting a few years after my life long friend took his life. Although I could never know, it was my way of trying to understand what he was feeling. In 2020, it took on another meaning with the onset of the COVID pandemic. As quarantine went into effect, businesses and schools shut down, people lost their jobs, and we became isolated from each other. For me, this piece is powerful and strikes a nerve deep inside me. Visually, this painting recalls the look and style of 70’s dime store novels. A bit quirky, a bit of camp for sure. I felt it was a time for a lighthearted painting with a bit of positive energy to get a spotlight. At the time my work was getting more and more serious and darker in colors. When I look at this painting it makes me smile and reminds me to have fun. I hope it does for you as well.
