Holiday fue un pintor paisajista, diseñador de vidrieras , ilustrador y escultor británico de género histórico y considerado como el último de los prerrafaelitas.

El lienzo está basado en la obra autobiográfica de Dante, la Vita nuova, en la cual describe su amor por Beatriz Portinari.

El poeta italiano ocultó su amor al pretender estar atraído por otras mujeres. La pintura presenta un incidente en el que Beatriz, tras oír estos chismes, lo ignora y rehúsa hablar con él. La escena se desarrolla en el Puente Santa Trinidad de Florencia.

Beatriz, que está vestida con un atuendo blanco, camina acompañada por dos mujeres, su amiga Monna Vanna a su lado, y su sirvienta, unos pasos atrás.

Dante, vestido de verde, la observa fijamente posando su mano bajo el corazón.

El amor de Dante y Beatriz es una historia que ha marcado a la ciudad de Florencia, a la literatura y a la cultura occidental. Seguro que pocos amores pueden presumir de tales títulos. Sin embargo, sería más preciso decir que el amor era de Dante hacia Beatriz y no al revés. Beatriz Portinari estaba casada con Simone de’ Bardi y, por lo que el mismo Dante no dice, quizás ni siquiera llegaron a intercambiar una palabra. Con todo esto, la fascinación que Beatriz hizo sentir al poeta provocó en él un sentimiento tan grande que se convirtió en el centro de su corazón y de su obra.

'Autumn Red' de Schikaneder de 1910 muestra a una mujer solitaria al anochecer, vestida con un vestido blanco de espaldas al espectador. A través del cielo hay un corte naranja ardiente. Es otoño y las hojas empiezan a adquirir un color marrón cobrizo y caen al agua detrás de la mujer. Se encuentra en una estrecha franja de hierba entre el agua y un alto muro, que todavía muestra las marcas de viejos escaladores. A su alrededor hay pequeñas flores blancas y grandes flores rojas.

By request, a few plates for this #throwbackthursday Most of these are in my personal collection, which means they have been tested with the microwave, dishwasher, kid knocking them around in the sink, and other such daily abuses for about 10 years now. Of course my work is porcelain, so it is breakable, but it certainly isn’t fragile. I believe art should be part of everyday life. My plates can hang on a wall. Tea bowls can be displayed on a pedestal. They are safe there. They will never wear out.
