Mari’s Songs

Mari has a habit of singing while piloting an Evangelion. She has a penchant for Showa-era compositions, as seen in her song choices in each of the Rebuild films.

In Evangelion:2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, she sings “The 365-Step March” (三百六十五歩のマーチ) by Kiyoko Suizenji (水前寺清子). The song was originally released as a single in November 1968. Mari sings it during her battle with the third angel at Nerv’s Bethany Base.

In Evangelion:3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, she sings “Not Alone” (ひとりじゃないの) by Mari Amachi (天地真理). The song, released in May 1972, was a number one hit on Japan’s Oricon chart. Mari sings the song during her space mission with Asuka.

In the 10 minute preview for Evangelion:3.0 + 1.0, she can be heard singing “The March of the True Path” (真実一路のマーチ), another song by Kiyoko Suizenji. The song was released in October 1969, and was Suizenji’s 29th single. Mari sings it during Wille’s Paris mission.

Her Japnese is fine, dispite the little accent she does have, and her body movments are extavragent, full with hand waves.

With these words, she moves to sit on an empty desk in the front row, leaning forward, and waits for him to speak.

Himari Hisakata is a young duelist from the Standard Dimension. She plays Agents, and studies at LDS. She transferred into Maiami Middle school shortly after the start of the story.

Kumoko is a homeless girl living in the Fusion Dimension. She has no family or friends, and spends her life fleeing from Academia, eventually meeting Asuka and Yuushou and seeking refuge with them. She plays Cloudians.

Amaya Amachi is a duelist from the XYZ dimension, and a member of the rebellion. Priot to the raid she was an idol duelist. Shortly after the raid began she was kidnapped by Miyuki, and is being held hostage at Academia with Ruri and Rin (and for a short time, Seki).

Raiu Inazuma is a young girl from the Synchro Dimension who was born in Commons, but adopted by a Tops family to improve their image. She hated how the City treated Commons, so she took it upon herself to try and stop the wrongdoing of Security by acting as a vigilante under the codename Flash Bang. She intercepts duels between Security and Commons citizens, giving the innocent civilians time to get away.

*Sonia returns to her book as well. It’s not actually one from the school library, or, at least, nothing but the dust jacket is.*

*Disguising a book on poisons as a cookbook felt like a fun bit of irony to her- but the irony of poisoning a poisoner and his friends would be even better. The despairs had barely trying to hide in Seoul, and thankfully, the Nevermind name still carried a bit of weight among a fair few of it’s occupants. She had her flight booked for a couple weeks from now, and plenty of help from old family friends ready.*
