A relationship with a hidden agenda is such a broad topic for someone's first debate. Talk about school uniforms, or fracking, or a legitimate social issue. Also also also. Do they not have a structure for this debate? Where are the themes, the motions, the timed speeches. Even if Thai debate is different from the styles I know, there should still be a structure. Why they just rebutting ceaselessly back and forth? All this for a title reference. Which debate nerd signed off on this!!

I can understand why Zo is upset. If you found out that the moments that felt organic and meaningful to your relationship (impromptu trip to Chiang Khan, even Zo coming to Joke for help, all ochestrated via secret texts) were actually planned with one of your friends and your partner scheming to get you together, that would really make you take a pause and reevaluate

"You and I still have things to discuss." "Discuss what? Why am I out of the loop?" Kot being the only one who isn't In Trouble with Zo LOL

"How should I be feeling? My best friend pimping me out to you!" That's a rough but fair way to phrase it, Zo

I am also 100% on Zo's side here, he has, at best, been told many lies of omission, and at worst, had his feelings and boundaries disrespected by his loved ones, and he's given Joke so many opportunities to tell him. Joke minimizing is not helping, and it's kind of Zo to not immediately dump his ass

I'm not even sure that at any point Joke has said, "I'm sorry," so my opinion is that he should, in this order, say: 1) I'm sorry for lying to you. It hurt you, I realize that now. It wasn't fair to you. 2) If you can, please tell me more so we can make sure all your concerns are heard. 3) What, if anything, can I do to start rebuilding trust? What do you need from me? Space, access to my messages, an explanation of how me and Pat know each other

"I know you understand me." "I know. I've been so understanding. Even though I'm not fine with it, I try to be." I actually like the B couple conflict much more than the main couple conflict, at least Pok and Jeng both have legitimate sides

I appreciate whoever captioned ep 10, because not only did they caption the dialectical differences or accents from where Zo is from versus Bangkok, they also made sure those captions sit higher on the screen the default English caption height, so you can see both without moving it. GOOD JOB!

None of these guys follow any structure when it comes to debate. Normally, you get a topic, you take a few minutes to prep your arguments, THEN you start arguing. You don't just automatically keep rebutting back and forth. How can Zo be expected to speak to his arguments after like less than 10 seconds of thought? Unreasonable!

"I can play [football] anywhere. It doesn't have to be that club." Maybe Jeng should go to Sarawat and Tine's school, where more than half of any given sports team is at least somewhat gay

The most realistic part of this show is all of the parents going, 'Actually, the emotional problems in our relationship are the fault of your own misconceptions.' 10/10, terrible and true parenting. Also Dad revealing it was middle child trauma all along LOL

"I've always been proud of you, son. Without fail, any given time. I'm so happy that you're my kid." Again, refer to what you JUST did moments ago, Zo's dad. But, better, I guess

"I love you, Joke." I like that Zo is initiating this 💞 They make lots of effort to balance the support and love

Final thoughts on this show: I would say the plot is somewhat meandering because it doesn't feel like it has one particular story to tell until the last few eps, and the use of their cast of characters could've been better, because I felt like people would only pop up to drop in a plot point. BUT I do find the show incredibly endearing!! I love the debate themes, I love how Zo is really focused on school, I love the silly little dating lessons. I think they do a particularly good job of building upon Zo slowly to help you understand who he is and why. I also liked the way they navigated the friends to lovers arc, though I could've done without the initial drunk punch or all the scheming. I don't feel like it added much, and I do think it took away from the relationship. I get that it's called, 'Hidden Agenda' but the mere fact that Joke liked Zo from the start fulfills that. The other part is that they laid some groundwork on why exactly their relationship was so tense in the beginning with flashbacks about the Freshy contest, but didn't really deliver on it beyond Joke appreciating that Zo asked how he felt. It felt like they didn't make much effort to reconcile the tone change or develop Joke's backstory in general. In any case, they had good chemistry, really good communication, a fun secondary couple, some really realistic parent dynamics and I liked it enough that I'm willing to hand-wave away its perceived flaws. A pretty solid mid-tier romance!

"You guys know [about you and Gia], but other people don't." You know, not to immediately compare this to Hidden Agenda, but at least in that show he had a reason for obfuscating his relationship status (to protect Nita from her stalker). In this show, he is vague for no reason at all LMAOOO

"What should I do then?" "Make yourself clear. Both your feelings and actions." Both Kluen and Dao are receiving the exact same advice at the same time, which is that they should be honest about their emotions. To which the both said: Ew, gross, why do I have to do that?

"This is Georgia, my close friend." "You're talking like a TV star again." No one ever believes anyone when they explain their relationships in this show

"Because you're scared, I think I still have a chance." Insane take, Phoon. Elaborate

Kluen has decided to finally use his words (and his mouth, for a little kiss in the bathroom):

"You broke up with her because of Daonuea. You're the one in Daonuea's heart. And Daonuea is the one in your heart too. Am I reading it right?" Plot twist: Kluen and Georgia DID date! Also, Sean truly knows everything, even events he wasn't there for

"We don't love each other that way. We're just... used to having each other in life." SCREAM what a way to dump someone. Kluen said: We're not romantic, just codependent

"Patch things up with him." KJHGKJHGKJH Sean said: Enough of this, your homework is figuring out your relationship xoxo

Kluen really still has not had the opportunity to explain himself at all. The entire show could've been prevented by one (1) halfway decent conversation

LOL @ Dao's friends pretending to know what happened the night before so they can get the gossip

[Apologizes for the third time] "You can say something else." "I don't want you to leave. And I promise not to make you worried again." Kluen comes closer to finding his words every minute

"You have ten minutes. Say whatever you need to say." "Can I call Noel first? I don't want to say anything stupid." Wjhkjhkjhff not Kluen using his lifeline during this love confession to ask to phone a friend:

"Though we've broken up, we still look out for each other. It's because of you that I got to know my own feelings." It took Kluen six episodes, but he got there eventually

Gia chose a difficult time to have a crisis mid-DTR-confession time

"But if you need the real answer, I would say you should wait. Even I can wait. I totally undertood it when you said, you don't even know what you are waiting for. Even so, you still want to wait, don't you?" I'm glad Phoon is giving legitimate advice and understanding. He is not a terrible second lead

I take it back, they have turned this phone call into a very convoluted lead-in to a date

Fjhfkfhfh the moral of this show is that if you ask Daonuea something insistently enough, he WILL say yes

God, I KNEW Typhoon would post something about their date as if it's a new relationship status, despite the fact it is a 24-hour-pity-boyfriend. Icky and bold

"Don't you think that's too much? If you don't delete it, just leave!" GOOD. Get out weirdo!

"Actually, Phoon is good. A lot better than me." Someone give this guy some self-esteem no jutsu

I didn't like any part of this Phoon-kiss-instigating-Kluen-bar-fight

"I hate people who use violence," said Dao, shortly before he gave Kluen a gentle tap with his car

Scream at the other guys still hanging out at the bar trying to bounce back from this interaction

Kluen will tell literally everyone in their friend group he loves Dao except him. Phoon, Sean, Noel. Who will he tell next? Fah? His mum? I give it 40 more minutes before we get to Dao

"What the hell were you guys playing at? We're grown ups." Yeah, that's a reasonable question, Pokpong

"But you, Papang. I never thought of you as more than a friend." HAHAHA Dao has chosen a very unkind way to let Papang down (in front of all their peers in the cafeteria kjghkgjhg)

"Am I not good enough? You haven't even opened your heart to me yet. What about the chance I asked from you?" Pokpong, Nay and Ting on the other side of the cafeteria table watching this interaction like: 👁👄👁

Also, Pokpong and Nay, probably: Damn Daonuea, who AREN'T you involved with?

"Isn't he curious why he still gets marks while not doing his own work?" THAT'S WHAT I SAID, NAY

Gia actually had a very good reason for being in a crisis during their DTR, which is that she got punched in the face by someone she cared about (yikes)

"Clear things up with him. I don't want to be the problem while I'm trying to help." Gia joins the endless train of people trying to get these two to communicate

Kluen has resorted back to delivering his feelings to Dao like a Handsome Uber Ghost, or a cat:

The chronology of this flashback doesn't make much sense. He broke up with Gia in eleventh grade, but he bought Dao a sunflower bracelet BEFORE Dao confessed, at the end of 10th grade? So he was just stepping out on Gia, buying bracelets for another guy? Kluen, control yourself!

"Sorry for not explaining. Sorry for being so bad expressing myself, bad at talking. And I'm sorry I didn't have the courage to say... love." This is a good apology but I think maybe Dao should also apologize for gently running into you with his car

Hahahahhaa Kluen said: I allowed you to plagiarize for me bc it was romantic, not because I'm bad at art class

"I just never had feelings for anyone like I did for you, Daonuea." Now that Kluen has found his words, he is in his cheesy bitch era

"Can it be the last time we allow others to speak for us? From now on, if there is anything, we should talk it out nicely, both of us." Again, I tell you this entire show could've been averted by one solid conversation

I hate what has just been revealed, it was weird, and I didn't like it. I will not be elaborating at this time

Also bold of Kluen to distract Dao while he's driving, even if it is for a Sponsor Juice segment

Wow, I did get answer as to where Fah's stairwell meetcute is! He is Chiang Mai, hanging out with his buddies from summer camp (Kluen and Noel)

"I'm curious now, what's your family business?" "Just a normal business. Noel is exaggerating." All the love, Prince, but this does sound like something someone whose parents had a normal business would say

"I'm also into business. Would you like a partner?" Maitee really wiling to shoot his shot always

The fact that Kluen and Dao are always locked arms or holding hands now is quite sweet

"Fine, be careful then." KJGHGJG?? Is this why Zo was fervently against drunk driving, because Dao lowkey accepted it? Take a taxi! Find a hotel! Phone a friend!

Hahahahah Sean has been waiting for MONTHS to talk about how much Dao and Kluen flirted in front of him

"I really didn't expect to see you again." This feels a contuinity error, given what Dao said to Phoon

"I wanted to give it to you before you went to Germany, but didn't have the courage, so I kept it." This relationship really started with one drawn-out, unhinged emotional affair

Again, so chaste compared to what I have already seen them do. This has to be a choice from this director, because I know they're not afraid to kiss (in a series or for fun, it seems):

I do also wish I could unsee the incredibly weird way they chose to segue into a sequel! I think I have seen enough of the Our Skyy cinematic universe LOL

Final thoughts: It was fine. I feel like Hidden Agenda was definitely a stronger series, with many parts of the same recipe. I do think they used their ensemble cast well, and the romantic tension was good, but the series felt solely premised upon people choosing not to tell each other anything for no reason. It also engaged in several tropes I didn't care for, and rather than let it stand alone, shoehorned a very alarming bridge to a sequel. These two are good leads, and I'm glad they have put them together, but it's like Twilight. There's only so much talented actors with solid chemistry can do. I am glad I sated my curiosity, but it's not something I would necessarily rewatch or recommend. Bring back the debate show!

Kaopoon is frustrated bc Real Jiw is now vibing with her new BF Sun while she is sitting sadly on a swing set [Alexa play Sadness and Sorrow]

Backtracking to the other kind of drama: Lieutenant Murder is finally going to murder someone on screen (specifically his fellow police officer) because Lieutenant Murder jumped him for getting too close to solving Nammoon's hit-and-run case, which is at this point obvious he committed)

I love when Sun and Jiw flirt through their apartment wall

Jiw and Sun are dating now but the remaining point of contention is how much Horny Ghost just wants them to sleep together instead of getting to know each other to which Sun thinks “Jiw do u only want me for my body 😔?”

I can't believe that Lieutenant Murder's tragic backstory is that he was an orphan oh my god. Adoption is normal!! Murder is not!!

Lieutenant Murder was possessed by an evil spirit????? (After the first time he tried to murder????) WHAT WHAT WHAT

Sous Chef Rain is yelling at the restaurant staff bc of forgetting his birthday, bc he is, truly, a perennial pain in the ass

They are all out for Rain's birthday except for Sun bc of his and Jiw (Kaopoon)'s sex fight and so he is very anxious about his girlfriend being out with The Guys without him

Also Study-Abroad Win is handsome to the point of distraction AND nice  where is his romance? Where is the justice for the male models of the world

Sun's Mom does not know he is Dating and Housing his employee possessed by a Horny Ghost He Thinks is One Facet of Her Personality

Win has been politely pretending not to notice that Sun and Jiw are in a relationship and now I'm thinking he will get a romance and it will be Ida, to wrap up most of the loose ends of this relationship pentagon. Based on no other reason than that they are both single

Dkjhgkjgh lmao @ Sun going to his whole staff: “WHO WANTS TO GO TO THE MARKET?” and then saying no to everyone one by one except his girlfriend

Kaopoon is making Sun help her dad install a restaurant hose in the middle of their work day hahaha

FINALLY PROOF THAT LIEUTENANT MURDER IS A MURDERER. Warning for murder related description, there was a flashback where it showed a still body (face obscured) wearing Kaopoon's outfit on his bathroom floor

They really hammered home the ‘he is a murderer’ thing, he has a bag full of evidence of his crime

In more lighthearted news, Sun's rice intolerance is psychosomatic bc his mum never cooked rice for him and it's Sad Boy Hours

Sun and Kaopoon!Jiw seem like they're finally ready to have sex (they've talked out their feelings and are going away together) but there are FIVE MORE EPS and the murder stuff still lingers so I wonder what other madness this show will unleash on me

Actually, six more eps!! Ahhhh that's so much time

Oh how the tables have turned now Kaopoon is the one too in love with Sun too have sex (bc she will go to the afterlife if she does -- But if she doesn't she'll be an evil spirit so... stuck between a rock and hard-on) 

I have been suspecting for a while tho that the sex will not change anything. She will probably have to solve her murder to pass on

You know what that is? Growth!!

Now they are back to the weird energy of Sun going “Now that we are in love I would like to have sex,” and Kaopoon!Jiw going “Sex????? Never heard of it!!”

Against Kaopoon's credit, she has not informed Jiw that their relationship has progressed this much. She's just like "yeah things are normal" bc she wants to spend as much time with Sun while she has the chance

Win and Kaopoon!Jiw are just being good bros and Sun, in tandem with the sex-back-and-forth, is jealous of their dynamic

Kaopoon has begun to solve her own murder!!! Unfortunately the first thing she did was point out inconsistent evidence to Lieutenant Parin, who extremely Murdered Her

I feel so happy for Jiw when she gets to experience normal boyfriend moments with Sun like these cheesy matching necklaces. <3 Why does Jiw's life have to be so complicated?

Kaopoon is... spiritually breaking up with Jiw, so she can end the messiness of her involvement with Sun

Ehkjehrrk Jiw is back to living her own life and a spirit just tried to grab at her and she just whacked their hand off and said, "Don't bother me now!" so she could keep cooking, love that for her

The employee-boss affair's out of the bag!!

They also keep cutting to Lieutenant Murder with his knife ready to go after Jiw for Knowing Too Much kjhgkhgjh so I guess the last four-and-a-half eps will dedicated to crime-fighting

Auntie Pu is kind of my favourite character on this show bc she goes from Ghost Nemesis to Ghost Mom all while having Sun's mom as her BFF and Sugar Mama

Hahahaha all the other restaurant staff (minus Win, who is chill) are sucking up to Jiw now bc she's dating Sun

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Jiw felt guilty about dating Sun when half the things he loves are things that Kaopoon did and now the Horny Ghost is out of the bag

I can only assume, bc he thinks she's bipolar, he will assume this is product of a hallucination

Reservations on the commentary on bipolar disorder aside, what DO u do when the person you love tells you that they can see ghosts and key relationship moments you had together were the product of them being possessed by a ghost

Sun now believes in ghosts but he's very upset about the romantic implications of this knowledge

“I think the reason I haven’t been reincarnated... isn’t the fact I’ve never slept with a man after all” HORNY GHOST CONFIRMED FOR DETECTIVE GHOST. VINNNNNDICATION!!!!!

Awww the restaurant staff are all surrounding Chef with support in his time of romantic woe

“But I want the two people I care about the most to be happy” I want Win to date Sun AND Jiw he's so good to them

AYYYYYYY Sun found out that Jiw made the recipes for the blog he liked (and called his soulmate) and now he's visiting her grandma bc he truly is in love with both Jiw AND Kaopoon

Sun said, “I acknowledge this is a complicated situation but I'm willing to work through the ghost thing and figure out how we feel about each other”

Cutting back to Lieutenant Murder, he has just meowed at his coworker threateningly in response to being investigated (for attacking that same coworker!!)

Lieutenant Murder wears this same stupid outfit every time he's gonna do a crime recently and can I just say: I hate it

WHAT'S HE GONNA DO, KILL EVERYONE WHO KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT ONE OF HIS MANY CRIMES?? THAT'S A LOT OF PEOPLE! AUNTIE PU! JIW! THE FORESENICS ANALYST! ALMOST-SUN? HE CAN'T EVEN KILL KAOPOON BC HE ALREADY KILLED HER AND SHE'S A GHOST!!!!!!!!!!!

“Chef, is something wrong?” Jiw asked, after telling Sun that his brother-in-law is a murderer who also probably hit his sister with a car

Sun said, “Pls don't be a murderer I love u bro” and Parin said “My life of crime is very important to me”

This is Kaopoon possessing Auntie Pu so that Kaopoon, Jiw and Sun can be a crime-fighting trio, love that for them

There are SO MANY crimes going on right now I cannot even begin to describe but just know Lieutenant Murder is responsible for all of them

So Jiw has been kidnapped (GUESS WHO) and Sun is investigating every school in the area and Kaopoon has a network of ghosts looking for her while Jiw tries to find a way to communicate her location. The Crime-Fighting Trio Continues!!!

You'd think more people would notice  what a creep this guy is considering that he is literally DIGGING A GRAVE for the woman trapped in his cupboard!!

Poor Nammoon she has no idea her husband is possessed by a murderous ghost. Which like, to be clear, he did try to murder before the ghost possessed him sooooooooooooo

“You're a good person,” said Nammoon, to a man who has committed at least three murders with a fourth on the go

Sun rescued Jiw via high speed car chase and now Auntie Pu and Kaopoon have taken Sun's car to chase Parin and GET HIS ASS

Also Jiw got 2 attack Parin which I think she deserved to get to do

Oh yikes it's possible she fatally injured him which doesn't bode well for the psychological implications of this whole ordeal

Nope I was wrong the ghost-busting continues

Well I don't know what's more perturbing, the resolution of that fight or the fact that there is still one more episode of 1 HOUR left jhfkjhkfjh this better be a happy filler ep where Jiw and Sun get married omg

Jiw won a cooking scholarship and gets to study abroad in Europe for two years so it's Sad Boy Hours with Sun again

Ayesha Liveblogs Oh My Ghost (2018) Ep. 1-8

As a precursor to the mildly harrowing journey I’m about to take you on, you should know that I initially liveblogged this in a Discord chat, so what I liveblogged is purposely not emphasizing some of the stranger elements of this show. Anyway, I thought, well why not have this fever dream live on my blog too. Spoilers ahead, but as I’ve said: it’s not that I recommend this show, but I did watch the whole thing

This woman is chanting at a rooftop altar in a lightning storm so I'm guessing she's responsible for the horny ghost

Just as I was pondering the fact that this is the only piece of Thai media I have consumed in which the main characters are not, to my knowledge, mlm or wlw, the next three characters to appear on screen were all gay (I do think they're just bit roles and not important characters but it was funny timing)

Update: God this is the second show premised upon Magical Virginity set in Asia I've seen in the past few months; r u ok Thailand and Japan

In an ironic twist of fate, she can't go to the afterlife unless she has sex with someone.... as a ghost????

I don't care for most of the chefs in this kitchen; both the sous-chef and executive chef seem to physically intimidate staff below them 

In more fun news Jiw, the shy main character, seems to see all sorts of dead people, since she is currently being haunted by spectres other than Horny Ghost, who has not yet met her

Grandma's explanation for why Jiw sees ghosts is that it's hereditary

Oh my goooood, I think Win the Handsome Restaurant Staff Who Studied Abroad (who I have been rooting for since he was introduced purely because he's handsome) might be Jiw's love interest hkjhgkjhgkhg

It might be a love square!!! Jiw and Win falling for each other while Horny Ghost tries to get with Sun the Executive Chef

Sun's tragic backstory is that he was also once a crybaby who apologized too much

Though in fairness to Jiw, if I were seeing ghosts and had this kind of work culture, I'd be stressed out too 

Jury's still out on Sun; I do like Sun's sister and her husband, they both seem very nice so far

I'm confused by the fact that Jiw's landlord seems to barge into her place anytime he wants??? Also he's threatening her to evict her for her Ghost-Be-Gone-Rituals   

The first actual hint of romance: Sun is commenting on Jiw's food blog, which he doesn't know belongs to her, bc he thinks her recipe and passion for cooking is nice

KUHHGDKJHGKJDHGKJHSJDKHG Horny Ghost has now possessed Jiw and has just THROWN SUN TO THE GROUND for trying to root through her purse for the storage room key
