Day 17

The southern women's museum staff take a daily break during the time I was scheduled to go, so I walked over to to Le Van Sy street, a shopping area people had recommend and I had already been to. I got some cute stuff and headed back to the museum...the third Ao Dai exhibition I have seen while here-- there was also one at the Bitexco Tower and obviously at the Ao Dai Museum. Beyond that, it seemed like the museum was just four floors of locked doors. I had waited for the bus along Lê Văn Tám park a few times but had never walked through it, so it was nice to have a set time to hang out inside the park. When I fist got here everything was still set up for the lunar new year. It looked like this--

It's made of styrofoam, if you were wondering. I am so thirsty for contemporary art this pretty basic sculpture in the park made me so happy. like, i really drank it in.

The Jade Emperor Pagoda was nice. I was not really raised with a religion, but both my parents were raised roman catholic. I'm really used to ones relationship with god being reliant on a priest and/or mass service. Its super cool to see these temples where people can just go in and worship at any time they please.

I have been trying to make the most of the tech mixer so I have been going around to food places recommend to me by one of the people I met there. On the way to one of his recommendations, i passed by Mariamman Hindu temple-- after visiting the pagoda this morning i was intrigued. I didn't look at the name, so without knowing it was on my schedule later in the week, i stopped in and again was impressed by the kind of decentralized prayer situation going on. I feel a little out of place in these spaces of worship, but it's nice to see them.

While sitting down at to eat, I saw someone I met at the Story Slam last week walking down the alley. I did not say hello.
