What is this blog exactly?

It’s been five months since my last post, so time for another blog reboot! I’ve decided to make this blog a catch-all writing website to keep track of my work across the spectrum of what I write about. Until now I’ve wanted to keep my fanfic separate from everything else, but... what is life without a little risk? 

Most of what I write is fan fiction or D&D related, but I do write original stuff occasionally (almost nothing that’s actually been published, although that will change going forward). If I actually put my game ideas into action I’ll post that here as well. 

In the meantime, my current focus is fan fiction, check it out here.

I’m also working on a comprehensive pdf guide to using Tarot in D&D (haha, the blog may be dead but my dreams aren’t), so I will post updates on that as they come in, as well as some teaser content!

Oh boy, here I go posting again

Well I’ve decided to get back into this game. There are two big reasons here: I need to get back into the habit of writing things, anything, even if it’s not my dissertation, so I can work faster on my dissertation; and sometimes twitter doesn’t cut it with the 140 charlimit and threading can be a... pain.

Plus, I don’t have to just write things. This’ll be good for me, I’m sure.

Understanding alloptions in WordPress

WordPress is an extremely flexible piece of software, and it comes with many different settings. Some are made visible to users via Admin > Settings and others are stored invisibly so users aren’t bothered by them, but all of them are saved in a single database table named wp_options. Today, it looks something like this: This database table actually has a few interesting qualities to it. Conceptually, it’s a very simple key/value approach to storing any kind of arbitrary information. It’s a distant cousin to all of the meta database tables WordPress comes with (for posts, comments, terms, and users) and I’m a big fan of the entire meta-data API – it’s now fully implemented across all major object types (except blogmeta and term_relationshipmeta) and, honestly, it’s one of the few “complete” APIs you’ll interact with inside of WordPress today, aside from probably roles & rewrite rules. Yo its ya boy, Blink! I finally set this blog up w a nice theme, so i feel like i can really actually start blogging. Im usually only on mobile, so please send me an ask if you need to inform me of something ive overlooked, as i cant read backlist pages! I generally try n tag things well? Im not too fond atm of using diagnosis names w myself as i am focusing more on my personal experiences. This blog is meant partially as a vent, resource and acceptance blog. I try my best to accept myself, along with problems i have, and to work through the things that hinder me in day to day life, as well as confronting feelings i may or may not have. In case anyone was worried about me, everything is fine. Despite the ordinary weirdness of grad school, I’m actually doing pretty all right currently.

Sometimes I get into a very zany mood, of course. Thus the weird post the other night. I may do that from time to time. And on top of that I had all sorts of feelings about the end of Homestuck, some of which I’ve chronicled over on my other blog if you’re curious.   I definitely want to write more about the ending, including my take on what’s happening in the final sequence, but I think I need time to process it all first.

(The more I think about it, the more I like it, though! I think I’ll probably be 100% in favor of it once we get the epilogue and can tie up some character arcs and maybe a few loose ends.)

Apparently I’m making personal blog posts again now, though, in addition to my usual museum style collecting of things? How about that. I have no idea what I want to say, but I think it might be fun to pop in for a reflection every now and then. I feel like I’d be better at it than I used to be when I tried it years ago.

Just a heads up:

I appear to have suddenly come into possession of a busy schedule! Plus a number of obligations and things to attend to besides the blog.

So apologies to anyone who’s sent me their responses (which have been excellent, by the way) to my last few posts: it’s going to take me a while to get to them. I definitely want to reply to everything - it’s just going to be a bit delayed for a while. Same goes for BGF Answers Her Inbox! Still something I’m going to do, but it might be best to think of it as kind of a long-term conversation. ^^’

I do kind of want to get my Homestuck manifesto up soon, though, since it’s basically about done. So look for that before I get through my whole inbox instead of after. Maybe sometime in the coming week?
