so i was thinking back to some discussions on the watchtowers jgy built and whole "was there some insidious motivation?" "was it money laundering?" etc etc but imho these questions are not only unfounded but also neglect one point it was actually brought up in the book about them: "why weren't there any watchtowers near yi city?"

Just give up; you don't have money and the cable companies do. Washington is bought and paid for by whoever has the most money and that isn't anyone interested in outdated concepts like "freedom" and "civil liberties" and "human rights".
You feel free to respond to the issue any way you like. To be honest, I really do get where you’re coming from. The power elite owns everything, either directly or via debts and influence. The president, as much as he’s congressionally impotent, has gone out of his way to tear down civil liberties, to install corporate toadies and literal batman villains as the heads of all major departments, and to sew chaos both at home and abroad. We’re in an era where any media outlet who reports an accurate depiction of the current state of American political affairs is immediately discredited. Civil liberties and human rights are being stripped, depleted and subverted left right and center under the thin guises of “America First” and “Protecting Traditional Values” and “Trusting in the Free Market” and like?
Yeah man. I’m not gonna lie or blow sunshine up anyone’s ass, its pretty fucking grim. I can’t say for sure that fighting as hard as we fucking can and making each and every step difficult for these fuckers is gonna pan out in the end, but like? The only sure-fire way to fail is to lay down and take it. Washington might be bought and paid for, but until they come out and admit that we’re changing our system of government, there are still rules in place. There are still avenues of recourse, there are still viable plans of attack, there are still options to chase down.
Aside from the petitions flying around, there’s also the potential to take the Net Neutrality issue before the Supreme Court, on the grounds that putting up paywalls on what parts of the internet people can access is an infringement on the first amendment.
Next year are the midterm elections, where every single congressional seat is up for grabs. Trump and his sad cabinet are barely able to get work down with a majority in both congressional chambers, if people mobilize and vote in 2018 they can topple those majorities and make sure he gets NOTHING done. Even if both majorities aren’t toppled, even hardcore GOP members in the House of Reps are still politicians, and getting screamed at night and day by their constituency for not representing their voice and needs has an effect after a while. The current administration’s tampering with health care, tax reform, and immigration have all been either entirely or at least partially stymied by the circuit courts, like?
The power elite and Trump’s toadstool army maybe own most of the influence, but there are still people out there doing their jobs, and those of us who are capable have to keep doing ours too. I get that it’s exhausting. This year has been a non-stop shit-storm of chaos, confusion and terror. Not everyone is gonna be able to stay immersed in this nightmare carnival of fucking nonsense, but laying down and waiting for the steamroller isn’t the answer either.
It’s cliched as fuck, but do NOT go gently into that good night. Do NOT go gently into the quiet death of civil liberties, do NOT go gently into the subversion of human rights. There is a toddler and a gaggle of evil babysitters in the White House, and that’s terrifying but...all you have to do to defeat a toddler is persist for one minute longer than they can. That’s all we have to do. 98% of this chaos is designed to exhaust the stamina of the American people, but we are nothing if not a bunch of tenacious, reactive motherfuckers, and we NEED to be using that right now.
So yeah. I get what you’re saying. I get why you’d wanna give up, I get why a lot of people probably do. But I refuse. If my long stream of links about Net Neutrality and my persistent agitation are causing you stress, please unfollow me, because while I totally understand, I’m not going to stop trying, and I don’t want you to be consistently uncomfortable.
