About Youth Eps 7 & 8 (Finale) Stray Thoughts
With this finale, I don't there's any completion for Love in the Air to reign as the prettiest boys currently airing.
I like the way they're using this small restaurant as a date spot for Qizhang and Ye Guang. It's probably not really a restaurant at all, and it's convenient to have Qizhang be a regular who just yells back his order. Very clever filming techniques.
Of course Ye Guang's dad is pissed that Guang is doing anything self-directed.
Baby is a messy eater. Let me just applaud Taiwan for the healthy care and hydration of the lips of the talent, because sometimes these boys be CHAPPED in Thailand. This cast has some of the best lips we've seen in BL, something I usually praise the Philippines for.
Ray and Jian scenes are so quick, but I do love the texture of their development. Also, a kiss that feels correct for where they are. It's a good one, but not one I think people are going to highlight. I like it because it was a bit stilted, but something they both wanted.
The skateboard date near the airport at night was cute.
Ye Guang's ability to fall asleep on the back of a motorcycle is impressive. Couldn't be me.
Oh, this unexpected double date is a treat. They are all so adorable. Immaculate vibes between the four of them.
Romantically satisfied looks so good on Ray. The Taiwanese boys consistently have the most enjoyable physical chemistry.
Holy shit we need to talk about how earnest all the high school BL has been this summer. When asked by Ye Guang why he's so nice to him, Qizhang gathered his bravery and answered, "Because I like you." Of course we get the biggest smile yet in response from Ye Guang. I'm just having such a great time in genre lately (even with some notable exceptions).
The immense relief I feel every time we overlay text messages over the frame instead of taking horrible shots of smartphones.
Oh, that was fun to learn that bag and hug sound similar in Mandarin. I'm choosing to ignore the impending parental drama for now.
Wow, so my disdain for Guang's parents continues to grow. Deriding a boy you don't know based on his wealth and limited family history is gross.
Holy hell I just got so mad. I hate love bombing, especially when you just struck the person. Being a teacher was hard sometimes.
On to Episode 7!
Ray and Guang have an enjoyable friendship dynamic to watch.
Oh and now we're back to shots of smartphones in hands. Sigh. The dad is such an asshole.
GMMTV, take notes. This is how you use flashbacks in the finale. Showing all the ways Ye Guang's dad has stressed him out in a quick series of cuts before Guang intentionally fails an exam is an excellent use of that.
Guang recording his breakdown and sending it to his parents because they always shut him down when he's in front of them hit really hard. That was a fantastic performance from Li Zhen Hao.
These parents are so frustrating. If you don't want him to repeat a mistake, tell him about yourselves. Tell him what you went through and why you want him to experience different things from that. FFS.
Mama Xu looks like she's suffering from wrist pain.
Oh do I love Mama Xu so much. Qizhang talks about the decision she's trying to make and offers reasonable responses that help him make a choice. More of this in BL, please? She, Uncle Man, Cheep, and Dej are all invited to brunch.
Oh, while they're singing the song, I have good news, ladies, theydies, and gays thanks to fellow clown @kyr-kun-chan. They finally uploaded Slow Motion to YouTube.
Ye Guang excitedly singing the song afterwards is incredibly endearing.
That was an adorable first kiss.
Well this show was very cute, but felt too short. We lost a few threads along the way. I'm going with 9/10.

Hi,...
It must be almost a decade back that I saw "My Husband's Lover",...a Filipono TV Series, which dealt with gay content. I loved the series,...but more than anything,...I was excited for the romance between the lead-pair. And much before that,..."Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros" happened in the early 2000,...which I had the privilege to watch almost a decade later.
Fast forward to 2020,...there were a lot of BLs coming from The Philippines. I believe,...Pinoy filmmakers saw a potential in this genre and perhaps thought of creating a niche for themselves in the otherwise competitive glamour and entertainment industry.
To be honest,...the only two Pinoy BLs that created an impact on me was "Amore", and "Quarantings". With respect to "Amore",...although the series was lacking a lot in terms of the technical aspects, and stirring a controversy for casting an infamous figure,...I still loved it for the presence of some really good-looking guys. And if you talk about "Quarantings",...I absolutely loved the power-dynamics between the lead couple in the story. Especially during the time of the Pandemic,...this series made sense to watch, although I haven't watched the second instalment of the same.
Specifically in the second half of 2020, and 2021,...it was raining Pinoy BLs,...as if every single Director is churning out stories after stories like a factory made product. However, barring a few Pinoy BLs like "Gameboys", "Hello Stranger", "Gaya Sa Pelikula" or "My Day",...none other BL series really made an impact in the minds of the larger BL audience, particularly the international audience.
So,...My question to you is,...
Compared to Thai BL industry,...how do you look at the Pinoy BL industry,...at the moment in particular?
Do you think Pinoy filmmakers just wanted to give it a try,...by randomly getting into the bandwagon just to attract some attention?
With the political landscape changing in The Philippines,...how far and how much do you think it will impact the BL industry in The Philippines?
Barring a few amazing Pinoy BL filmmakers,...why is there a dearth of talent in The Philippines BL industry specifically, when it comes to producing quality BL content?
How far do you think Pinoy BL actors are serious about their profession if you compare them with BL actors from Thailand, South Korea, or Taiwan?
What does the future of Filipino BL industry look like to you?
xoxo
Arjuna
I am sorry Arjuna but this one I just can't answer well. It seems like you have a much more in depth relationship with Pinoy BL than I do. I have only ever watched the heavy hitters; Gameboys, Gaya Sa Pelikula, Rainbow Prince, and My Day (my favorite).
Tumblr media
I mean I can speculate from an industry/politics perspective, but it's tiny under those standards and really the only break out hit they have had on an international scale was Gameboys.
Compared to Thai BL industry,...how do you look at the Pinoy BL industry,...at the moment in particular?
embattled and endangered
Do you think Pinoy filmmakers just wanted to give it a try,...by randomly getting into the bandwagon just to attract some attention?
Yes to a certain extent, but also they clearly want to bring their own flavor to the storytelling and the industry. Which I really appreciate. They tend to be particularly queer affirming, for example.
Much as Rainbow Prince was NOT my thing, I can’t argue with the fact that it was clearly a UNIQUE product of it’s place and time. It was something entirely new and different (rather like Gameboys when it came out). We have to give The Philippines credit for the experimentation it does, and I think they are best when they don’t try to be derivative. However, the often risk spectacular failure and lack of international appeal, but they are unique in the industry and best when they pursue that voice in the field.
Tumblr media
With the political landscape changing in The Philippines,...how far and how much do you think it will impact the BL industry in The Philippines?
I’m not sure. Usually a conservative push or new regime changes things for the worse (e.g. China) but sometimes, when it’s more about military control/power and less about ideology (Thailand) the entertainment industry is left alone. (Because it’s such a big revenue generator re-tourism.) The most efficient govt propaganda machines realize that the entertainment industry is a form of cultural propaganda (Korea, China, Taiwan) and act accordingly. But some BL country’s governments aren’t that intentional (or efficient about their brand messaging) like Vietnam for example, and some have a more rose tinted perspective (ideology) around on entertainment as art that should be left, somewhat, out of politics. (Although of course, the art doesn’t see itself that way.) Japan, for example.
So it kind of depends on the ideology if the incumbent and his party. I mean we can guess how Marcos will behave given he’s a scion, but how he approach the entertainment industry, it’s probubly pretty low on his priority list. His family agenda has been about holding power and dominating (seemingly for the sake of it) rather than any actual concrete ideologue. Frankly we don’t really know how he feels about anything, except that he wants power. So my guess is (based on the Marcos family behavior) he’ll do anything he can going forward to hold onto that power now that he has it. If that comes to mean, to him, censoring or otherwise cracking down on the film industry (and BL) then he will. But if it means leaving it alone to generate revenue and tourism, then he’ll do that instead.
Barring a few amazing Pinoy BL filmmakers,...why is there a dearth of talent in The Philippines BL industry specifically, when it comes to producing quality BL content?
Good question. Honestly I do not know. But I am assuming it’s size of industry (like Taiwan) and funding related (like Vietnam).
How far do you think Pinoy BL actors are serious about their profession if you compare them with BL actors from Thailand, South Korea, or Taiwan?
No idea at all, sorry. I continue to fail to understand how actors think. This started in my teen years and has followed me to this day. I am surrounded by these alien creatures and they mystify me.
What does the future of Filipino BL industry look like to you?
See above, if Marcos goes with family tradition we are in for a tyrannical ride. Once of the problem with dictators and tyrants is they are entirely unpredictable.

can I just say though, on this day of...whatever the hell that thing was supernatural did, that I’m incredibly grateful to be in BL world, and especially grateful for thoughtful, sensitive and beautifully-done series like Gaya Sa Pelikula existing. I may have spend half the day laughing at memes about an angel being dragged into super hell for confessing his gay love, but it was so good to sit down for half an hour to a beautifully made series about actual queer issues and actual queer love.

Wei Too Opinionated: Ranking the available South Korean BLs as of March 2021
(Remember, I’m the only one allowed to make puns out of my own name, guys.)
So the idea has gripped me after my last liveblog post about You Make Me Dance: how would I rank the available South Korean BLs as of right now?
The list available to us includes:
You Make Me Dance
Color Rush
Wish You
To My Star
Mr. Heart
Where Your Eyes Linger
There are a few others listed on Viki, but they aren’t the short form recent ones so I’m not considering them. (I also didn’t watch them -_-)
List will be from least recommended to most recommended along with overall thoughts about the series. May include spoilers.
Keep in mind, none of these are actually BAD. They’re all pretty good for what they are and I’m sure budget was also an issue, which says a lot about how good they are DESPITE the budget. I hope that the trend continues with South Korea’s production of these dramas. I hope we continue to see the form evolve and grow as we see it in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, and the Philippines. The standard for BL dramas has only continued to increase despite the circumstances over the past year and I love it. But as I’ve said, none of these were BAD. It’s all varying levels of good, like pizza or vanilla ice cream. (If you like pizza or vanilla ice cream anyway.)
6. Wish You
Was the premise interesting? YES. A singer who wants to make it and he ends up connecting with a producer/assistant and there are obstacles to their love and profession. But... The actual obstacles were just... The singer’s dad, who was a rich bastard who just didn’t want his son to be a singer. We never even meet the asshole.
There was no opposition to their love other than frustrated dreams (still valid), and their own hang ups (more than valid). And in the end, a bunch of people quit their jobs with them so that they can go make the music they want to and the leads end up together, making beautiful music. No really, the key song they sing together is really rather pretty. It’s a nice message about wanting to stay true to your artistic intentions overall and loving someone in the process.
IMO, this could have been an interesting way to tackle the expectations of the idol industry in SK. In particular, the way that some idols aren’t allowed to date or maybe even the impact of coming out as queer and being an idol. I actually thought that was where it would go and I have no one to blame but myself for my disappointed expectations. I read into it, no one else told me to. But I do still think Wish You had more potential that wasn’t utilized and while being a nice, short, and sweet story, the fact that the potential looms there... It kind of kills it a bit for me.
5. You Make Me Dance
OOF. Now here was a premise with a lot of built in conflict! A debtor and his creditor. A dancer with a dream and the debt collector who gave up his dreams. The power dynamics! The suave way Jin Hong Seok seems to just operate... Song Shi On’s abandonment issues! The way that they first meet and how they realize that they’ve met before! And the constant reoccurring themes of soulmates, people who are meant to be together. YMMD was so great in that regard.
There’s so much cute domesticity, lingering looks and soft touches, everything the gays want and more. It was also nice to “see” (still salty about not seeing more actual DANCING), some more intense performing. Like Wish You did have them sing and play instruments on screen, but that can always be faked more than dancing can and the actor for Song Shi On can at least do some moves.
But again, there were still questions at the end and I wanted answers. I did not get them. Did it get in the way of how cute the whole thing was? No, it didn’t really. Perhaps I just hold stories to a higher litmus test than most. At the very least, YMMD did attempt to really play with those themes of Shi On’s abandonment issues, Hong Seok’s desire to actually get out of his line of work, Shi On finding a story for his dance and the like. So I fault YMMD less than Wish You.
4. Mr. Heart
It’s a drama about people who run marathons, but did all of us expect to like it so much? I think most people just fell in love with Sangha and that was it. We were done. The drama was great because Sangha was a cute boy just trying to do his best because his love language is acts of service. All he wanted to do was be by Jin Won’s side for as long as possible. The twist about Sangha’s debt just added that extra punch, that little bit of flavor to something that was already a conflicting struggle. To go for more or be happy where you are? To take the opportunity to pay off your debts or stain the thing you love, the person you love, by just using them for money?
Mr. Heart also really did give us all that vital background of just how long Sangha and Jin Won have potentially known each other. We really got to see Jin Won slowly warming up and reciprocating in his own way. And the last moments where Jin Won wants them to be “on the same level” so they can be rivals and lovers, not just partners as runner and pacemaker, were very sweet. It was a very nice way to tie everything together and end it.
So if I’ve got all this praise, why does Mr. Heart rank only as fourth? Mr. Heart kind of... sat in the middle for me when reflecting on all these dramas and what I liked. There wasn’t enough to push it further up or further down. Even with the STUPIDLY INTIMATE sleeping together scenes. Like HOLY SHIT those were intimate. You think it’s intimate just to watch these dramas with boys sleeping half naked, one of them resting their head on another’s chest. WRONG. TOTALLY WRONG. When you watch Sangha and Jin Won spooning, legs intertwined, blanket tangled around them, the way they just lie in rest, comfortable with the person next to them, THEN YOU WILL KNOW TRUE INTIMACY.
3. To My Star
If I’m also being very honest, To My Star and Mr. Heart are about on par with each other. To My Star’s premise is slightly less mundane and actually carries a bit more weight in terms of some of the conflicts. It’s a typical meet-cute because :handwaves: circumstances! Actor Kang Seo Joon needs to lay low to let some drama blow over and his agency’s CEO happens to have a place rented by the chef Han Ji Woo. We get to see Han Ji Woo’s icy exterior slowly warm to the overly friendly nature of Seo Joon. And we see just what the ice and even friendliness hide in both of them.
Seo Joon hides the hurt of being betrayed for the leak that leads to the drama until he can’t take it anymore and finally acts to clear his name. Ji Woo hides the struggle to actually succeed despite how hard he works without getting much of the credit at the restaurant. It all comes together and works out, everything is answered. They get together and it’s all... It just works. Their chemistry and the pace of the developing relationship just feels natural enough. Ji Woo could certainly spare some more warming up, I won’t deny that, but I guess I have a soft spot for watching cold boys warm up in the sunshine of happy boys. (Maybe I’m just trying to live vicariously. Shut up.)
But what really pushed To My Star up over Mr. Heart was the food porn. No really. Put some totally awesome looking food in your drama and let me watch the characters cook it? Instantly going to be rated higher. Immediately. Why do you think I loved What Did You Eat Yesterday? Yes, I rank FOOD PORN higher than CASUAL INTIMACY. Yes, I do have my priorities straight, thank you.
2. Color Rush
Hmm... Color Rush... Now I have to say Color Rush had the more... Interesting of premises. You get something that’s sort of like soulmates but not. You have an interesting way for two different subsets of society to interact (probes vs monos) and you also have stigma associated with one of the subsets. It’s almost like a mix of several tropes you love with hippy trippy rainbow color effects every time Yeon Woo sees Yoo Han’s face.
The drama also benefits from an overall darker undertone given the way that Monos are portrayed as obsessing over Probes and we really see Yeon Woo work through his growing feelings/obsession with Yoo Han. In the end, the two truly deserve each other because they’re obsessed with each other which... is not exactly healthy, but the drama portrays is more as “meant for each other.” So okay, fine, fair.
Color Rush benefits from that interplay between love, obsession, need, want, and how Yeon Woo overcomes his issues and feelings. The darker undertones give everything an edge to really highlight the softer moments where you catch Yeon Woo letting himself fall before he pulls himself away because you know why he’s pulling away. That danger that’s lurking underneath, the fear, it never leaves him until the end.
Still, Color Rush still leaves some things to be desired. We hear about Yeon Woo’s mom a lot and he seems to be very hung up on her, he and his aunt really want to find her. But then we just... drop it. Like after he sees the colors of the painting of his mom, we don’t see him really pursue that storyline anymore. And that’s really a shame. I think I would have liked to have more of Yoo Han’s perspective, but I get that he was supposed to be more mysterious as a Probe with his own motivations. It’s nice they revealed his face blindness at the end and his motivations for really wanting to be around and loving Yeon Woo.
Also also, SO DISAPPOINTED that we did not get a side couple with those two classmates, the class pres and the guy who claims to be possessed by an old man who tells the future. Now THAT is an interesting dynamic I tell you. Wonder if the old man could give him tips on gay sex.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for a season 2 one day. Probably won’t happen, but I can dream.
1. Where Your Eyes Linger
Who honestly did not expect Where Your Eyes Linger to be number one? Even after watching all the dramas that have come after it, none of them have compared to the level of YEARNING. That pure wanting what you can’t seem to have. That being so close you can touch it but you can’t take that last step. Wanting to taste it, but knowing it’s like a drug, it’s like poison, once you do you can’t go back. Like it’s so... Yeah. And the chemistry between Han Tae Joo and Gang Gook as friends but also bodyguard and charge is so... palpable. You can just see how they’re pushing and pulling because of their circumstances and you’re torn between cutting them both free or pushing them together.
True, there’s not really a lot of soft moments between Tae Joo and Gang Gook, but that just highlights them when they do happen. Also true, the softest of moments happens after Gang Gook pretty much fights his way into Tae Joo’s dad’s house and Tae Joo agrees to leave to have Gang Gook spared. They spend that last night together, actually acknowledging how much they love each other and it’s SUCH A GOOD PAY OFF EVEN THOUGH IT HURTS. But the ending. Oh god that ending. So worth it. So so so worth it.
And really, WYEL has to be number one because if someone said they only had the energy to watch one of these six and asked me which one to watch, I would suggest WYEL hands down, no contest, in an instant. Because THE YEARNING MAKES IT SO GAY. The PAY OFF OF THE YEARNING MAKES IT SO SWEET. Like you’re in it for a ride, WYEL gives you a motherfucking ride and leaves you back where you started, feeling better than you did before and that’s CRUCIAL. Why am I suffering the rollercoaster of emotions if not to feel that catharsis of a love fulfilled? And if you aren’t giving me that satisfaction, you aren’t getting my money.
WYEL pays back all of it with interest.
Conclusions
Again, none of these were bad. None of these were awful. If you have the time and energy, just binge all of them in one weekend on Viki. It will honestly not be a waste of your time. I just say prioritize them.
If you’ve gotten all the way down to the end here, let me know what you think. How would you rank them? What Korean BLs are you looking forward to in the future?
I am totally... not doing this with Thai BLs though. Don’t even ask.

The Blue-Haired Minnie Mouse/ Purple Hoodie Guy
September 14, 2020 (6 months after Hellish pandemic break loose)
The situation is not getting any better in the Philippines. Everything is just being a huge joke here and we’re not actually getting proper response from the high ranking officials. Hence, I cannot help but feel quite hopeless with the situation. Also, the toxicity of my fandom has been getting to me at one point in time. So I have decided to go away for a bit, and go back to what soothes me at hard times, Music.
Truth be told, I liked his former band’s music, but I’m not in to the point that I will be stanning them as hard as I am doing right now. (I’m really not into KPOP except for Blackpink so I don’t have much reference... And I usually like ballad and relaxing songs.) I didn’t have the time to watch series then because I was too busy in my former job. Also, I have been into writing way before, so I would be satisfied with listening to their music from time to time.
However, by the time that I have fallen in love with their band, 9by9th, I found out that their “End Route” means the end already, no more renewal of contract of 1 year. I was quite devastated with the news and I kinda took it hard and tried to go fan girl over series instead. *SOBS*
Tumblr media
(9x9th members: L-R: Thanapob, Ryu, Captain, Porsche ^^, JameyJames, Third, Jackie, Jaylerr, IceParis)
When Trinity debuted, I was really focused on Third and I can remember that I cried over their MV (Hater’s Got Nothing) because I thought that Third will be able to continue with what he’s passionate about. (Third is originally from Kamikaze group but the company disbanded, and his second group is 9x9th but disbanded as well after one year). I kind of followed them for a bit but then I started managing Philippine Fan club bases of my favorite series, with everything that happened, I got too busy... but all I can remember then was the old me crying because I cannot buy the merchandise from before. (Quite a noob then and I didn’t know about pasabuys and stuff.. so yeah). T_T.
Tumblr media
(Trinity members: L-R: Jackie, Porsche <3, JMJ, Third)
Before hell broke lose in the whole world, I had the opportunity to go back to Thailand for the second time and I met those artists that I am following. I actually wanted to meet Trinity but there was no opportunity for me to do so because I didn’t even check their schedule then and I think there wasn’t any update regarding their work, so yeah... T_T. (Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed my stay in Bangkok)
So yeah.. After probably taking in shit from the govt for about 7 months already, and toxicity from something that I really used to enjoy and made me smile, I started to distance myself for a bit because what I really need now is not stress, but something that will probably lift up my mood. So what I did was to stress myself even further... watch mystery series that will probably make your head burst into thinking... so in the end, I actually stopped watching BL series and stumbled into their first series together as 9x9 boys, In Family We Trust.
Tumblr media
So an excerpt from Wikipedia says,
The Jiraanan family is a wealthy ethnic Chinese business family, whose extended family spans three generations. Grandfather (A-gong) and Grandmother (A-ma) have four children. Prasoet, the eldest son, heads the family business, Jirananta Hotel, and manages its main Bangkok location, while Phatson, the only daughter, manages its Pattaya branch. Met, the second son, is a single stay-at-home parent, while the youngest son Konkan lives a playboy lifestyle. Among them (and a deceased fifth sibling), they have nine third-generation children. The family members seem to get along well as they celebrate A-gong's birthday, but when he dies of old age shortly after, and his will is revealed to exclude Phatson from inheritance of the hotel, she gets into an argument with Prasoet regarding its management. Prasoet is then found dead from a gunshot in his bedroom, and Phatson becomes a prime suspect. Prasoet's wife Chris also becomes suspected when it is revealed that Prasoet had been seeing a mistress for twenty years. The grandchildren, especially Prasoet and Chris's son Pete and Phatson's eldest son Yi, become involved as each family tries to prove their innocence and uncover the mystery of the case.
This was the first time that I started to look at him. Porsche played the character of Kuaitiao, the orphaned grandson who lived with Grandpa and Grandma. Kuaitiao is actually an art student here and he’s passionate about his drawings.
Tumblr media
What probably captured my attention is his ability to lighten up the mood around him. Even at awkward situations he was able to make me laugh. And probably the fact that he’s close to his grandma and a sweet grandchild even if he’s an adopted one. It kinda got into me. I’ll be honest. There was a scene where Grandma wouldn’t eat, and he pretended to be angry and did not eat as well. I found it cute and smiled at first, but after few moments, I was sobbing already. He made me miss my grandma who passed away last July 15.
Over all, I loved his acting here. Rating 4.5/5
Tumblr media
(But please, don’t make him cry because I’ll end up crying as well).
Tumblr media
(He’s such a precious person guys, pleaseeeee... make him smile a lot, okay?)
So, of course, once you’re interested in your new bias wrecker’s work, you’re going to check his latest and previous works, right? So what I did next is watched their latest series (still with 9x9 boys, but this time, it was 7/9 only. I just found out that Thanapob cannot join the series anymore because he’s busy filming another series and Ryu is actually an actor of another channel. Hence, his few appearances as Macao in In Family We Trust) entitled as, Great Men Academy.
Tumblr media
(Great Men Academy Cast: Porsche as P’Good <3, Third as Nuclear, JameyJames as Love, Jackie as Menn, Captain as Sean, Jaylerr as Tangmo, and IceParis as Vier)
The excerpt of the story is as stated below,
Love (Chanyapuk Numprasop) has always been a fan of the popular guy Vier (Paris Intarakomalyasut) of the famous all boys high school Great Men Academy, but she has never had the chance to meet him. One day, she sees the mystical unicorn rumored to fulfill wishes and wished for her love for Vier to get a chance.
Unfortunately, the unicorn interpreted her wishes in a different way and Love wakes up to find herself in a male's body. She is able to switch between genders under the condition that she must return as a girl before midnight each night. Love attends Great Men Academy as a guy, and works through the complications of winning Vier's heart and meeting new people while trying to keep her identity a secret.
I actually fell in love with P’Good’s character here because he’s such a stern but doting brother. Good is kinda strict when it comes to Love at first because he has to be strong for their whole family because his dad passed away. He’s a very smart guy, yet clumsy fellow. He can also be shy when it comes to Me. (His crush in the series. Why can’t it be “me” instead? Just kidding).
Over all, I loved how he brought to life my favorite glasses ikemen on this series. He made me cry with the way he handled the vulnerability of his sister, Love. His acting for me in this series is a complete 5.0/5.0! *For the love of Good, Please?*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I rest my case. I’m dying again of spazzing to Phi Good. (Okay. I have a huge crush on this character. The character, okay?!) hahaha
Tumblr media
Wait... let me breathe for just a bit... *hyperventilates in Good’s name*
Then after watching the said series, I started to rewatch their Elements MV. And that got me hooked. I noticed his talent in rapping, singing and dancing that I wouldn’t have normally seen in the first place because I have a bias of my own before.
It’s like the more that I watch him, the more I fall for this person (in terms of being a fan of his). I kind of accepted that he’s my bias on Trinity now when I saw this video. (ปาว ปาว (Shout) – V.R.P kamikaze)
Tumblr media
I’ve been reading articles about him when I came across the interview of Bangkok Post with Third and Porsche regarding their new work. (being 9x9th members and In Family We Trust). I found out that Porsche was actually a member of VRP of Kamikaze and I watched all his previous work. So when I saw the video Paw Paw/ (Shout), I burst into laughter. I knew from that time that he’s such a funny guy and he’s giving me positive vibes.
As I continued watching, I saw him with a Minnie mouse headband, and I lost it... I laughed a lot, which I rarely do these days. So by then, I wasn’t able to help it, I started to love this kid more.
I continued to watch all the showcases, the fancams, the v-live videos, the vlogs about him and goodness gracious, I am really swoon. This kid is such an interesting person and I really regret not knowing him right away.
Tumblr media
As I get to know him, the more I admire him. I mean... for real, it’s even funny knowing his quirks. Like he likes to draw stuff, he likes to play the piano, he loves Anime and his favorite anime is Hitman Reborn! (I wonder if he likes Hibari Kyoya too). Anyway aside from his talent, another selling factor of him to me is his positivity towards life.
Tumblr media
“Don't worry na krub, all TWILIGHT. No matter what will happen in the future or the situation, we are always TRINITY and we will do better than before krub.” #XXSIVK #PorscheSivakorn
His positivity and his ambition would inspire you to do well and go on no matter how difficult things may be.
Thank you Porsche, you are indeed a good source of a breather in my life. Things have been quite difficult in the Philippines and no matter how much I wanted to take a vacation now, I can’t. Your music makes me smile a lot and at times, I forget my worries when I watch you dance. It’s like watching someone you idolize do what they love to do and give it all with passion makes you motivated as well and keeps you going.
Truth be told, you remind me of one of my favorite persons. He used to be brimming with life. But covid made things difficult for him... well it made things difficult for everyone. I really hope he gets his footing soon.
PS. I might not be able to get to know you in person in this life, but I really wish you success. I will always be watching from afar. :)

I’ll be waiting for your come back again. Thanks a bunch XX :)

This Week in BL
March 2021 Part 4
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.
This is a LONG ONE, it’s been A WEEK everyone.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Lovely Writer Ep 5 - a little slow this week, but at least Gene finally flirted back, and very cute flirting it was, too. Also we got Aey’s motivation, background, and love interest. Thank goodness for that.
Brothers Ep 8 - still pants, what can I say? Clearly I am a BL masochist. Very embarrassing for everyone concerned.
1000 Stars Ep 9 - the conflict over Tian’s father was REALLY well done. The plot of this drama is excellent, the leads are great together, and yes I totally cried. What, you didn’t?
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Word of Honor (China) Ep 16-18 - big battle fighty fighty stabby stabby. Ep 17 switches to “this drama isn’t big enough for two chaotic-neutral godlings!” So what do they do? Drink together and bicker... A LOT. Then in Ep 18 we all get the dubious joy of really freaky puppets. (I HATE puppets.) Also how is China letting this be so SO VERY VERY GAY?  Also, I wanna walk through the forest wearing a smanshy purple robe and waving a big fuck-off white fan around simply because I’m a pretentious fuss monger. And frankly, I feel like this is an achievable life goal for me.
We Best Love 2 (Taiwan) Ep 4 - not gonna lie, this is looking to be one of my top 3 BLs of 2021. It’s SO GOOD. Big bonus to this ep for treating stalker behavior like the mental illness it is and not as some dumb representation of enduring love.
The Most Peaceful Place is My Place (Vietnam) Ep 1 - finally dropped (find it under NƠI BÌNH YÊN NHẤT LÀ VỀ BÊN EM on O2′s channel). It’s got actors already comfortable with BL and looks pretty good so far. An angry tsundere uke reunited with his ex, a stoic chef, giving us lots of snap, crackle, and pop out the gate.
Dear Uranus (Taiwan GL) Ep 2 - I want to love it, but it is just moving too fast. There’s not enough character dev and then they’re throwing flashbacks in? It feels like a treatment rather than a show, and a rushed treatment at that. Bummer.
HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 2 (AKA Ep 3-4) - let the cheesy popcorn continue! Idiot remains an idiot; ingenue remains an ice queen; nice gay guy remains nice and gay; obsessive stalker brother is getting ever more whackadoddle. Of course these last two have the best chemistry. (It’s caregiver codependency and the salvation trope. We got us a Leo/Fiat situation going on.) Plus lots of classic BL tropes because OF COURSE there are lots of tropes.
Occasionally, I am tempted to argue that shows like H4 or Cherry Magic or Ossan’s Love aren’t technically BL because of the office setting and age of the protags - but then they all behave like high school students anyway, so *shrug*

Stand Alones
Cute little Taiwanese micro BL Friend or Lover dropped, about bisexual realization within a friendship group. Normally these are too short for me, but this one did pretty good with its 15 minutes of charm, plus it’s abad boy + shy softy pairing.

Breaking News - Thai BL
Fish Upon the Sky released its actual trailer. The upside-down kiss is gone, which makes everyone sad, and it seems far less rivals to lovers than the first iteration, which makes ME sad. But it still looks good and a more classic BL than GMMTV has given us in a while. New trailer focused more on the makeover trope and they’ve upped Mix’s role (the object of everyone’s affection) now that he’s proved himself. (Or they are using him more to carry the trailer since he has a fan base form 1k*). Starts April 9 on GMMTV in 1K*’s time slot, probably with a 10 ep run.
2gether the movie is apparently coming April 22 to Thai theaters. F4 Thailand must be having issues or GMMTV just wants to milk the BrightWin cash cow. It’s rumored to be a combination of 2gehter + Still 2gether with some extra scenes and ending. Also, one assumes a lot will be cut out, if it’s movie length.
Call It What You Want released its updated trailer. If anything, it looks more scary than before. What are we in for? April 9th.
Nitiman got a release date, May 7 on One31.
I Told Sunset About You 2 got an updated release date of May 27 on LineTV.
Second Chance the series is coming to LineTV on March 29. I don’t know much about this one. Tons of familiar faces (mostly TharnType side dishes) and some nice looking new talent but a dearth of eng subs. I think it may take on Brothers’ time slot. Line did eng subs for Brothers so maybe they will do 2nd Chance too?
Close Friend the series is coming April 22. This is a combination of 6 couples with 6 story arcs as music videos (maybe)? It’s an epic fan service with familiar faces like OhmFluke (UWMA), MaxNat (LBC also in Y-Destiny), YoonLay (YYY also in Y-Destiny), KimCop (GenY), and JaFirst (TT2).
Y-Destiny starts March 30, and has starting dropping couple’s trailers. I’m still suspicious given the director but it seems like there is plot (or plots) and a theme. Looks to be a series of 7 single ep vignettes (amended, see comments, might be 2 eps each for 14 eps total), different couple each time, some with supernatural elements, all with decent chemistry and acting chops.
Sun MaxNat’s tutor/student arc
Mon jaded rich kid meets poor innocent
Tues sports romance enemies to lovers
Weds the messy realistic actual dating one
Thurs hot ghost boyfriend (sad)
Fri YoonLayPerth coping with loss and finding new love (sad). This one will all rest on Lay's acting so we know it’s in safe hands. Our boy is going to KILL it.
Sat time-slip memory loss reunion romance
I’m thinking we can’t expect any of these to end happy or be classic BL. They’re gonna be more slice of life-ish.

Gossip - BL Outside of Thailand
Scholar Ryu’s Wedding Ceremony AKA Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korean historical BL) got a legit teaser (eng sub here). @curriculumvtae reports that it’s releasing April 15th on WeTV (Philippines & Thailand) and Idol Romance (South Korea), while Will of Thai Bl says it’ll be on Viki too. It’s a short run of 8 ep built on a fake relationship trope (arranged marriage variant):
Ryu Ho Seon’s (Kang In Soo from You Wish) arranged marriage turns out to be with his expected bride’s brother, Choi Ki Wan (Lee Se Jin from Mr Heart). Ryu tries to undo the marriage, but his ill mother opposes this saying the scandal would be too much. Meanwhile, Kim Tae Hyeong (Jang Eui Soo from Where Your Eyes Linger), a senior at Ryu’s school, comes to congratulate him and falls in love with Choi. Then one day, the original bride disappears.
Okay it seems a bit twisty turny for ONLY 8 EPS, but oh my goodness how excited are we? Our first intentional historical BL out of Korea!

We already knew Hong Kong was doing a remake of Japan’s Ossan’s Love under the same name (not my favorite Japanese BL but so very popular) but it’s now reported to be coming to Viu in June. Who knows how the CFA will take it. Depends on whether Hong Kong bows before the NO GAY KISSES regs or if they are going to use this as a political nose thumb... things could get cray with this puppy (the original has several kisses and s shower scene). Are we back in Addicted territory only with added comedy and civil unrest?
Speaking of Japan, Absolute BL (AKA Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai vs Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko) dropped sooner than anyone thought, March 27. But being Japanese who knows how/when/if we get subs. Protag finds himself trapped in a world of BL, but being straight he fights against any hot guy that draws near, but the whole world (literally) is conspiring against him. It’s a parody adapted from a yoai.
What with Absolute BL from Japan plus Lovely Writer and Call it What You Want from Thailand, is 2021 the year of BL being ultra self referential? Sure feels like it.

In Case You Missed It
Faded a gay micro film from Taiwan from 2017 deals with parental acceptance and serves up a ton of BL tropes (piggyback, forehead kiss, etc). I’m pretty sure this was a propaganda piece for legalization of gay marriage, and it’s an interesting nugget of BL history as a result. Yes, it ends happy. It’s cute.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Some shows may be listed a day later than actual air date for accessibility reasons.

Upcoming 2021 BL master post here.
Links to watch are provided when possible, ask in a comment if I missed something.
Man there’s a lot going on right now! Spring has sprung... I suppose.

P.S. I cannot believe I missed Absolute BL as a blog name. Numbnuts = me.
