lwj is poorly suited towards being cc in everything but principle, but I’ve seen people put forward jc as a better option and I definitely think he would be more of a disaster. at least lwj demonstrably cares about non-cultivators, and he has a large support system in his sect

#and depending on how much you think wwx contributes he has a direct connection to someonw who understands better than most how commoners liv #lwj may be a poor socializer and he may have conflicting loyalties but jc? #that man barely has the emotional maturity and control over his behavior to be a functioning adult #he may have been trained to negotiate and run a sect from a young age but we never really see much support for his actual skill in it #he def doesn't have the people skills or charisma #I mean. he's scary he can intimidate others #but his penchant for extreme and premeditaed cruelty would concern me #also he's not really close to anyone so the extra responsibilities would be hard tp bear on his own #and I do not think that man needs even more focus on work #plus when has he ever cared about the greater cultivation world or anyone outside his immediate circle #like given the circumstances I understand his choices for the most part but its not like he's going to win an award for humanitarian efforts #jgy really was the perfect choice outside of being evil #but I support lxc as lwj's successor #nhs is definitely capable but I don't think a lot of people trust him #well at least the juniors are growing up. make lan jingyi cc 2k23 #joke but I do love him as sect leader #cql txp

DONGHUA LXC REPLACES HIS SWORN BROTHERHOOD IMMEDIATELY WITH JIN LING (13) AND NIE HUAISANG (USED HIM TO MURDER BY PROXY)???? DONGHUA LXC, WHAT??

Okay, so 1.) the donghua is not my jam so I've only watched a couple of episodes, so I am a poor source of information, and 2.) TECHNICALLY that is not what happens, but it's also not NOT what happens.

Basically, we get an ending montage about how everyone who isn't Wangxian is having the worst time (but that's fine because Wangxian are the only ones who matter!), and we see Jin Ling, Nie Huaisang, and Lan Xichen recreating 3zun's brotherhood oath tableau at the coffin-sealing ceremony.

Which I don't hate on its own, honestly! Immediately after this, the trio separates as a Voiceover Of Busybody Public Opinion speculates on the precarious position of Jin Ling/the Jin Clan itself (as Jin Ling himself bursts into tears upon being given Jiang Cheng's clarity bell)*, tells us LXC "needs some time to recover" (as LXC looks sad and sighs), and remarks how what a great job NHS did overseeing the ceremony (as NHS stands before the monument looking grimly satisfied).

So I think it's meant as "wow look at this fucked-up successor to the Venerated Triad" rather than something positive for anyone involved, but like. The fact that LXC is there at ALL, placidly following the lead of the guy who tricked him into murder, is... a pretty intense fumbling of the character? Even if he has zero regrets about killing JGY (a weird choice but, given that JGY tries to do an MCU villain skybeam at the temple IIRC, not fully incompatible with this canon), he's still going to feel fucked up about failing NMJ, grieve the MY that he once knew, and have zero faith in his own judgment. He's not going to be out here doing sect leader shit just a few days (days! the subs say so!) after all the temple shit goes down. It's weird! I don't like it!

*The choice to place the core reveal after the temple and have JC go into seclusion because of it is, IMO, a worse adaptation choice than literally anything in CQL on so many levels, and it has the unintended side-effect of making Donghua WWX the biggest douchebag of all time. With QS and JGY both dead and JC in seclusion, WWX is the only family Jin Ling has left in donghua canon. And yet! Donghua WWX abandons his 13-year-old nephew (who must now unpack his brand-new trauma and navigate political chaos with NO SUPPORT NETWORK WHATSOEVER BESIDES HIS THERAPY DOG) and skips merrily off into the sunset with LWJ without a second thought. Uncle of all time, truly~

#WWX at first says he's going to destroy the Stygian Tiger Seal but within the same conversation he decides to 'go home' with LWJ #does he have much of a relationship with JL? no but given that this is the guy who risked it all for the Wen remnants #bc he believed it was the right thing to do and bc he felt indebted to them for the help they provided him #he would maybe ALSO feel indebted to his flesh-and-blood nephew (twice over since he's in MXY's body!) whose parents died on his account #and maybe also feel like helping this child who just got effectively orphaned AGAIN would be the right thing to do also #but who am I to question the choices of the Morally Correct Protagonist?

People who keep claiming that "Jin Guangyao didn't have to do what Jin Guangshan told him! He could leave/kill him/steal all their money/go to LXC/NMJ!"

Really seem to like to forget that:

a. Jin Guangyao new way too much for JGS to just let him go?? The man has killed people for less, and he certainly doesn't hold any love for his bastard children.

b. You do realize the only reason JGY goes in the vault is bcs he is the sect leader in mdzs. Like this is pretty elemental, but the vault is only accessed by the sect leader. If Jin sect could just be robbed they wouldn't be the richest sect...

c.Lan sect was burned to the ground at the time and the Jin were helping them rebuilt. Even if they chose to involve themselves and turn against JGS (LXC and LWJ support alone does not guarantee the Lan Sects support, a we've all seen and it also very much doesn't guarantee ones survival, rip wwx...that first time). What power exactly do you think they had against the pretty much Wen sect vol.2 ?? Like by constanntly calling JGS promiscuous (which he was ok) we keep ignoring the crazy amounts of power he held back then...

d. NMJ. Honestly I can't believe I have to keep saying this but if your friend/sworn brother tries to murder you without even giving you a moment to plead your case (you know as is the legal system, or whatever) you tend to not trust them very much after??? Besides NMJ seemed rather content at the time to ignore JGS entirely and just try to blame everything on JGY. You guys please tell me you at least understand that XY was the Jin sects, aka JGS', ward? protege? idk the word but he was under their protection. JGY had no power to do anything about him, even if he wanted to, if JGS didn't permit it. You'd think as a sect leader NMJ's "righteousness" would puss him to talk to his fellow equal, sect leader JGS instead of constantly trying to kill JGY, but oh well.

e. Do you guys think killing your own father is easy? Just emotionally, cause if you do irl seek help tbh that's not normal. Not considering the logistics of killing a sect leader when you're his direct successor (tbh I think that any other method than the one JGY choose wouldn't have held up but that's another story). Like even if people didn't like JGS they liked JGY as head of Jin sect even less.
