just curious but has your opinion on reddie softened somewhat since chapter 2 or are you still not a fan? There's been a marked change on a lot of the fanworks I've seen for it, mostly that it doesn't follow the problematic tropes it was plagued with before, I'm wondering if that would help endear you to the ship more? and are you still put off by the movie making it official that richie is in love with eddie? apologies for the interrogation
You know what, it has softened me a bit.
I maintain that I’ve never really disliked the Reddie pairing. I mean, it’s part of the OT7 and I am an OT7 shipper above all else. But I don’t think it will ever be a pairing that I seek out content for. And I maintain that I dont view it as anymore deep or canon than any of the other pairings.
Anyway its hard to explain but... I feel I was able to enjoy Reddie scenes in this movie more. I genuinely loved the hammock scene - I thought it was really sweet. Which I didnt have with the first film. Like... in the first film in scenes where I saw friendship other people interpreted the same scene as shippy and so... I would sort of roll my eyes a bit (no shade to those peeps, I just didnt see the Reddie all that much in the first movie).
As for the shift in fandom trends regarding Reddie, can’t say I’m really hip-to-the-groove on that. My only exposure to Reddie is through the few blogs I follow that ship it. So like... can’t really comment on whether things have changed or not. Thats really good to hear that the fandom is moving away from problematic tropes though - since thats another thing that kind of turned me off Reddie content.
I know I’ve definitely been liking/reblogging more Reddie posts than I ever have before, but I think thats more about there being more content than me becoming more endeared to it. Like I said, I love that goddamn hammock scene so I will happily reblog art of that all day.
And now for the negativity (Reddies, please don’t come for me!). Yes I am still put off by how gay!Richie played out in the movie. I mostly take issue with the fact that they basically took Eddie’s canon story arc and gave it to Richie for like, no reason.
The only reason I can think of is that Hader is a bigger star and Richie is a more popular character and so they wanted to give the meatier storyline to him. But in my opinion it was clunky and shoehorned and not well thought out. And it totally shafted Eddie/Ransone to the comic relief role which was so unfair to such a rich character.
im also a bit butthurt about the bi richie erasure but lets move swiftly on from that subject because its highly contentious and subjective
No worries about the interrogation. Mostly I’m just surprised anyone wants to hear my opinion on this... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
