Hmmm ok I have only the info you posted about Daria, I think her strongest relationship out of my OCs would be with Isabelle bc that's her housewarden lmao. Because you said so much about Daria's slight arrogance (I think that's what's written there, I might have to double check later tho bc it's been a while since I read Daria's character info) and other very negative traits that she has Isabelle would probably get a headache with her rather often when she acted like this, in fact I think sometimes she would have to remember she's dealing with a dear student (she holds all her dorm members very dear and near her heart) and not Leona since they share some traits, but overall I think they would have a positive relationship outside of these headaches; Daria is inspired by Athena and you yourself said she's plenty smart, so that's something her and Isa have in common, I feel like they could get along pretty well!

Daisy's surrounded by screwed up people at NRC so this isn't news to her, + she always aspires to see the best in everyone because of what her parents taught her, so I feel like even if her relationship with Daria wasn't that deep, I feel like she would be intrigued and want to assume the best out of her

Jeanne............ Yeah she looks a Daria and gives her a thumbs up. Like idk why but my gut feeling is to say that even if Daria and Jeanne probably aren't close, Jeanne probably finds her interesting and admires how smart she is-- not as smart as her captain Leona tho sorry😋 jokes aside, she would low-key push Jamil to talk to her and stuff just so she could get Jamil off of her and Kalim's dates

Perse and her are...... Surprisingly similar? I mean they're both incredibly attractive women who are extremely smart and (if I'm not mistaken ofc) keep it to themselves. But exactly because of that I don't feel like Perse would have a strong opinion about her, maybe she could see her as a rival because Perse is rivaling Idia in Ignihyde and in the Island of Woe as the smartest people there; other than that, Perse is very closed off and puts walls around herself all the time so good luck getting those two to get closer than a simple "hi." "hey."

Also I'm pretty sure u weren't thinking about Jasper and Angus but I wanted to include them still :] I think they'd be both very wary of her, as they are with most strangers, but seeing how Daisy is supposedly only talking good things about Daria would lower their guard... okay I'm going to rant about byler in your inbox if you don't mind, honestly Mike and Will's relationship is so wholesome it hurts. every bad patch of their friendship just bring them closer and make them better people. I know there's antis and such like "Mike is growing out of Will's childish behavior", but Mike isn't, he really isn't. their love is honestly inspirational, like they're the reason I believe in love even if they're not canon. Mike is literally a definition of I hate pretty much everyone but you. if you touch him I will eliminate you. and both of them are really soft supportive boyfriends. Mike trusts Will so much it's scary, will was literally possessed and Mike still had his trust in him. and will, I feel like will be the person to allow Mike to hurt him mentally but not leave him. and that much trust could be toxic on both sides(depending on who your with and im not trying to romantize this at all!!! Will is definitely trying to work on letting people walk all over him) but with them it's like they're literally soulmates. and yes I'm all talking about in this world that the duffer Brothers have created not Finn and Noah in the slightest. but just imagine will supporting Mike every step through him becoming an author. and Mike doing the same supporting will every step to become an artist. unlike mileven they actually make each other better people, and don't tear each other down. Mike only acts On emotion when he's with Will because he actually loves will. and will is so honest to Mike, more honest to mike than his own mother. its precious, truly.

okay theories and scenario type things:

1) they would be the couple that everyone in the neighborhood hates because they're supposed to be homophobic but there is definitely some if not most neighbors that do not like them because they are gay but think they're amazing and so so kind.

2) they get along with each other's families so well it's amazing, Mike and Joyce just *screech* Joyce takes care of Mike like son( in law). and like I said will and HollYY.

3) they would most definitely end up getting a demonic cat and call and exorcist because they have seen way too many horror movies (thanks will) and have lived through too many, to know how bad this is going to get.

4) will get so incredibly messy when he paints like, his artwork is wonderful and not messy at all it's like a piece of well, artwork. so sometimes he hugs Mike after he finishes painting and Mike has to take a shower because of how much paint got on him.

5) if Mike does become an author and I really think he will, I imagine him not telling will until will reads his book that he made one of those little pages like thank you sections, and just talked about how much he loved will.

6) will has to have a therapist, because of PTSD, overall mental health things, and his father. but Mike needs one too. and will has tried so hard to make mike go see the same therapist so he can get help with his stuff.

First off I’m so sorry I responded to this like 2 days late but here we go

Like you said they really do care for each other a lot and I feel like they would both go to the ends of this EARTH just to save each other because you know that’s just what loves about and they’re deeply in love and it’s so soft and fluffy and adorable and they make me cry sometimes

They balance each other really well especially since Mike is like such a touchy person and Will is just right for that but they balance each other’s personalities as well, and not just emotionally because Will has had problems with not wanting to be treated around like he’s fragile glass and yeah he had a terrible father that called him slur and then a couple years later he somehow went into another dimension being chased by some monster and fighting for his life because that’s scary as hell and then a year later gets possessed by this demonic shadow monster and he’s scared shitless but he for sure isn’t fragile, he’s tough and I can’t wait to see that in season 4 and mike definitely doesn’t treat him like that because he knows what he’s been through

1) there would for sure be those homophobes because it’s the 80’s and I totally agree that some would think they’re sweet and kind

2) they do get along with each other’s families especially Joyce and Mike, because Joyce just knows and does trust Mike the most out of all Wills friends because she literally let mike inside in season 2 because her son was being possessed and I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t let any of the other friends do that especially since the shed scene

3) Thank you for noticing my dumb chaotic cat head canon it was honestly just to be funny but honestly this would probably happen and I’m super glad that you put this in here

4) TOP TIER MESSY, he’s painting and all of a sudden he gets mike all painted up because hugs him or kisses him and then mikes just complaining like “stop you’re getting me all messy” and “great now I have to take a shower” but internally he loves it and he loves Will and he’s happy with Will and it’s just cute and fluffy

5) Will would be so supportive but then he reads mikes little thingy and he says something along the lines of “you should really become a writer you really talented with this stuff” and Mike just says “I already plan on becoming a writer just wanted your opinion” or something like that

6) Will for sure would beg mike to go to his therapist with him because that therapist has like really helped but because Mike is so damn STUBBORN he keeps saying no for god knows what reason, maybe because he feels like her ok compared to Will but he’s definitely not and Will knows this and I feel like they would definitely get in a fight about this and Will would let a tear fall and yell something along the lines of “you need this just as much as I do so don’t FUCKING pretend that you don’t need this as much as I do” and they’re both crying and mike finally agrees and says he’s sorry and they kiss and cuddles so close it looks like so impossible to be that close but they’re comforted and they tell each other they love each other so many times

hi! i'm reading furuba and there's something i don't quite understand so can i ask you a little question? so after tooru fell and ended up in the hospital why does everyone acting so rude and accusatory towards kyo? saying it's his fault, he need to apologize etc. i suppose they are doing this to help (?) but it feels so hurtful... and overall i can't help but feel so sad for kyo during the progression of the story, people treat him so poorly and i barely see anyone actually being kind to him :(

Hello anon!! Thank you for this question!! The hospital arc is really the toughest one on kyo :( but it’s also the same arc that finally gave him a reality check. Kyo’s biggest flaw has always been that he’s too (unintentionally) self-absorbed with his issues. His struggle to deal and cope with his trauma has had a disastrous effect on his relationship with the people he interacts with like kyoko, kazuma (for that period in time he refused to let himself call kazuma as his dad), and to a really great extent yuki. It reached its peak at the hospital arc, when instead of accepting tohru’s feelings for him, kyo, blinded by a really awful mixture of guilt over kyoko’s death, his self loathing, and the sincere expectation that there was no other future for him except for being imprisoned for eternity, said some really terrible stuff to her

No one is truly, sincerely blaming kyo though. Cat boy really had too much stuff going in his head. The problem was, not only did kyo really really hurt tohru, because of his brooding, he ended up never going to the hospital to visit her at all. Whether or not for understandable reasons, it certainly pissed off a bunch of people. Yuki was the first one to confront him because at this point, he’s just fed up with kyo’s infinite problems. Tohru fell from a cliff, sustained serious injuries, and is literally confined in a hospital!!!! Meanwhile kyo, the closest person to tohru, the person tohru’s so clearly in love with and vice versa “that it’s obvious even to a middle schooler”, is sulking around on the balcony like he was in some linkin park music video or something. Like what the fuck man!!!! What the fuk!

That’s how we got the oscar award winning Shut The Fuck Up scene on the balcony. Yuki got even more pissed when he found out that the reason why kyo didn’t go was because kyo blamed himself for tohru’s accident and he thought she’d be better off if he never came because all he ever did was hurt her. And honestly, if you’ve been watching your two housemates flirting and being gross like it’s no ones business for almost 2 years now, and you hear this kind of shit from one of them “im like..only hurting her dude…” you’d be super pissed too like im sorry kyo but its true

For the most part of the manga yuki’s been an unwilling spectator to most kyoru scenes, and a lot of people attribute this to him trying to understand the nature of his feelings for tohru—which is true! But when we finally get to the hospital scene, we also see that maybe a small part of that is also yuki’s slight frustration that he can’t make tohru happy the way kyo does. The Shut The Fuck Up Scene takes their mutual jealousy into its final form: because now it involves tohru.

At this point “jealous” isn’t the right term. More of, both of them sincerely believed that the other can treat tohru much better. But we see that this is an issue that affects yuki—their unwilling spectator—so much more, not only because of the way kyo hurt tohru, literally one of the most precious people to yuki, but also because of yuki’s awful history with kyo. A lot of people have already talked about this scene from the yuki and kyo perspective, so i’ll limit my discussion to what i believe is the kyoru aspect.

When Yuki kicks the wall and starts crying when he tells kyo “do you really think it would be the same if I were beside her?” — you know from the many panels we’ve seen of yuki watching kyoru flirting from afar or kyo noticing stuff about tohru yuki never noticed, he’d been thinking about this a lot. So kyo telling yuki that tohru would be much better off with him is, to yuki, a load of bull! fuckin! shit!. But poor cat baby is way too oblivious to notice just who exactly he was to tohru. To ignore tohru’s own feelings. How tohru sees him, and only him. There were some things only kyo can do. And the most effective way (possibly even the only way) to get stubborn kyo to finally understand it is thru some screaming and a nicely aimed punch on the face. Because this is no longer about kyo’s issues, this is also about tohru, her feelings, her loneliness, her quiet struggle to fight for her favorite person and to save from his destiny as the cat. This scene was beautiful because yuki finally explodes, both for his own sake and for tohru’s.

And then there’s saki and arisa. I think saki and arisa were also rightfully pissed. Like, more than “rejecting” the girl u’ve been shamelessly flirting with for the last gazillion years, u just called tohru, the nicest purest kindest girl in the world “delusional” like boi???!? Let’s just say if kyo was just some other random guy he wouldn’t have come out of that confrontation at school alive. But because saki and arisa genuinely love kyo, they cut him some slack. While neither saki nor arisa knew about the curse and the imprisonment, both of them, especially saki (who has been reading kyo’s ~feelings~ since the first time they met) know that despite this one instance of him seriously hurting her feelings, kyo is a positive influence on tohru. There was really no other person for tohru than kyo. They wanted him to stop moping around and blaming himself.

Saki told kyo that tohru wasn’t looking for an apology. What tohru really wanted was for him to return her feelings. Everyone and their mothers knows that kyoru is written in the stars; but kyo, way too absorbed with his issues, actively pushed her away, when he could have let her in. They wanted him to realize this for himself before they could let him see tohru again. And kyo knows deeply within himself that he needs to get his shit together. He didn’t need other people to figure that out for him, but what he does need is other people to drag his ass to finally get it done.

These three showed kyo some tough love during the hospital arc and i can understand why people might think kyo is getting too much bad treatment, especially in this arc. But personally i think these three did the right thing. Kyo needed to take a step back from the chaos in his mind and see the big picture; to see what he’s been desperately trying to avoid. Tohru’s out there ready to love him, and all he needed to do was to let her in. But cat boy is furiously stubborn there was really no other way to make him realize that than to be harsh on him

The hospital arc is one of my favorites because from there we see how kyo finds the courage to face the one person who was the root of all of his trauma—his biological dad—and come into terms with all of his complicated issues, even (and i really want to emphasize this) before akito told him that the cat room has been destroyed. He was willing to let go of his shackles to be with her, despite a future of being caged forever. All of it for tohru. So that when he finally saw her again, he’d be a man free from all the shit that had truly been imprisoning him all his life. So he could be with tohru, and she could be with him, with nothing holding them back.

Ahh there are so many more beautiful things about this arc but i hope this is a sufficient answer to your query!!

Aww, really?! I used to post a lot more about them, but thank you anon! I appreciate it! As for your question, I have a lot of thoughts, as usual, so this might get extensive. Her books were my introduction to the Borgia family, since then I’ve read other biographies and sources, and I have occasionally gone back to read her stuff again, so many of my initial thoughts changed and what I’m about to say here comes from there: Her writing is something I still like overall, there is no denying that it is engaging and passionate. She makes you fall in love with this family I guess, or at least her image of the family. I still like how she slowly situates you with the time period and the main families surrounding the Borgias, other scholars just assume you know what’s happening and who’s who and sometimes they even assume you know latin, french and italian lol. If you don’t know anything about the Borgias, she’s as good an intro to them as others, such as Cloulas or Johnson. She has some good insights about Rodrigo and Cesare’s political plans, but also about Lucrezia, especially at her time in Ferrara with the d’Este. What’s interesting about reading biographies, even if annoying too sometimes, is that when we read about a historical figure and their times, we are also, in a way, reading about the writer and their own times and their moral views on things and it clearly impacts on how they see and write about their subjects and their actions, like historian Anthony A. Barrett said: “In any period of historical writing there can be no such thing as an untainted judgement since, despite any genuine desire to be honest and precise, the historian will inevitably be corrupted by an inherited way of viewing the world.”Her Lucreza bio is the weaker of the two imo, but I don’t think that’s entirely her fault, writing about Lucrezia is one hard task, because she is, for the most part, an elusive, ambiguous figure, so keeping that in mind, I think Bradford made the best sketch of her personality and her life as she could. Of course it does not follow what she says in the foreword, giving the impression that she will not present Lucrezia neither as a femme fatale, nor as a poor victim of her bad family as previous writers and scholars have done over the centuries. It makes you expect a lot more that is actually given, she does give Lucrezia a little bit of agency, but the general picture is really a softcore version of sweet, good Lucrezia who was a victim of her bad family. She also has a sharp tongue for those around Lucrezia, like Caterina Gonzaga, or Isabella d’Este, and when it’s about Rodrigo’s or Cesare’s possible questionable actions, she is more than happy to write about that along with her judgements and commentaries, but when it’s about Lucrezia clearly benefiting from these actions and her seemily having no problem about it, she writes in a neutral tone, without any commentary or judgement.Her Cesare bio is stronger than her Lucrezia bio no doubt, but in comparison to other Cesare bios, is weak. Her writing, as I said before, is great, Cesare’s life in itself was so rich and exciting, and she makes it even more so, but as an academic work, it is lacking. She’s not an thorough historian imo, her assessments of his character and analysis of some of events are superficial and sometimes misleading, a clear example is how she writes about Cesare’s relationship with Lucrezia, in a way that honestly flirts with the unprofessional, and it makes me uncomfortable now. They were close, yes. They were loyal to each other, yes. But it was not as extraordinary as she makes it look, they were not renaissance’s Julia Drusilla and Caligula, you know lol, their relationship was normal for their circumstances and both of them did show attachments to other people and other family members in their lives, the whole ‘mental/emotional incest’ term that if I’m not mistaken came from her, or at least is the conclusion that was made by some people after her writings about them (me included) is a huge stretch, it’s the fiction/history line being blurred. Also, when it comes to sources, esp. primary sources: Sacerdote, Sabatini, Woodward, and José Catálan Deus all do a better job on that front.

She has a weird habit of only quoting certain parts of documents and not adding a note with the source she is using, so that if you want you check and try to find the whole thing later you can, and it drives me crazy. To this day I have no clue where some of the quotes she uses comes from! And she is the only one who mentions them too. Would it really be so difficut to add a note with the source? I personally find it very shady, it gives the impression she doesn’t want people to check or something.In addition to that I guess others things I don’t like are usually and sadly the same things I find on works by other Borgia scholars too. I don’t know why, and I don’t know if I’m alone in noticing this, but Borgia historiography has a lot of melodrama, moral judgements and opinions being written in tones of absolute certainly, but always very little evidence to support it, which really makes you question sometimes if you are reading a biography, a serious work or if you are reading fiction. Just to give some examples of what I’m talking about here, I’ll never forget Chamberlin’s: “if there was one person in all of Rome who knew Cesare killed Juan, that person was Lucrezia.” *dramatic mexican soup-opera song plays in the background*Or when an female author whose name I can’t remember right now says in all seriousness something like: “Rodrigo could not control now the monster he had created” the monster here is of course Cesare. Or “…what a murderous havoc Cesare was later to spread in the lands of the papal states.” And it’s just… it’s bizzare to me. I suppose is good for entertainment, but if you ask questions like ‘based on what? who say it? why? then it gets frustrating because they don’t give it to you. Are there actual concrete evidence behind these claims? It doesn’t look like it does.

There’s seems to be zero evidence to even claim that Cesare hated Juan or was envious of him. Or that they had a bad relationship. There’s not even rumors about it. Much much less that he killed him and much less still about what Lucrezia knew or didn’t.

There are letters, documents, and decisions that undeniably makes it crystal clear that Rodrigo Borgia was always in charge of the family’s politics, and Cesare was his trusted advisor and the tool he relied on to affirm his authority as pope in the lawless papal states since Rodrigo wasn’t really the warrior pope type like others have been. They had disagreements possibly (1502-1503 is where we see that a little bit of that) but time and again we have Rodrigo and Cesare working together, the events at Senigallia is a wonderful illustration of that, so unless we accept Capello’s words: ‘The pope love and fears his son’ as evidence, which would be unrecommended to say the least, there is nothing indicating that Cesare controlled this father nor that Rodrigo feared him.

We have Cesare’s ardent critics acknowledging his wise, good government in the papal states, which won him the fierce loyalty of the citizens there. Most of those cities fell to him not by force, but either by diplomatic agreements with the deposed tyrants ( the Malatestas is one example) or by him using intimation and deception as a tactic.

This unnecessary, unrequested detour is just to say that Bradford follows all of this. Not exactly these narratives per say and It’s not as bad as Chamberlin or Hibbert, but it is there and it also leaves me ?????????? when I read it now. I still think her books are fairly decent, more her Lucrezia one, because it is the most, if not the only tolerable one out there, that at least tried to give Lucrezia some humanity and complexity instead of insults to her intelligence and black and white approaches. It just should be read with a grain of salt, and like no biography is perfect. No biography is gonna tell you exactly who that HF was, you know? it’s just one study, one view of one author. There are positive things and there are negative things, regardless you will learn about the family, if you’re just starting now and even if you’re not, it’s still good to check different theories and so on.
