Feeling very emotional about Kaz and Jordie naming that pile of broken boxes The Nest

Feeling very emotional about the fact that they even named it in the first place. Like that was not a home and never could be and they knew it but it was all they had and so they made the best of it and gave it a name

Thinking about how the two of them were just babies who lost the support they needed and were forced out of their 'nest' too soon. Thinking about the two of them in this cycle of losing whatever support and family they had and having to leave their "nests" afterwards and then find new ones only to lose it all over again. (Thinking about how Kaz canonically avoids being all buddy-buddy with the other Dregs, thinking about "your gang is your family", thinking about Per Haskell being the closest thing Kaz ends up having to a father figure and then Kaz lOSING THAT --- and to an extent the Dregs too --- ALL OVER AGAIN BECAUSE THE MAN BETRAYS HIM.) Thinking about them trying to get back a little of what they've lost. Thinking about them holding onto some sense of hope and optimism through it all. Thinking about them being desperate for things to just be ok and normal again

Thinking about how that one little detail --- literally I single sentence out of two whole books --- somehow does so much to drive home the fact that these are just children trying to survive and find some happiness and normalcy and comfort and A HOME AND---
