Note
let’s start with 1-5 for all the polycules! -@vacantgodling
This is gonna be a long one lol. But first, a little note on these polycules for those who don't know: they're legally mandated for the royal family (Kiatcarmen, Marcus, and Minaya) and have at least one of each sapient species in them. That's why Jimmy was replaced in Kiatcarmen's polycule when he died, whereas in an organic polycule, that likely would not happen.
1 - How many members are in the polycule? How are they related to each other? Feel free to draw a flow chart.
Kiatcarmen: there have only ever been five at one time. But those members have shifted twice, when existing members died. Kiatcarmen and Ashmalo are Marcus and Minaya's parents.
First set of members:
Tumblr media
Second set of members:
Tumblr media
Third (current) set of members:
Tumblr media
Marcus: seven, technically. It remains to be seen whether Heith will stick around. With the exception of Heith, it's safe to assume they're all friends. Gren only knows OF Heith, since Marcus met her on another planet. Yera and Hossan recently had a baby. Also they don't actually have non-cow ears I just couldn't rally myself to make updated picrews for this post.
Tumblr media
Minaya: six, all pretty much friends. Dawn is currently pregnant with Arbores's baby. Lanya is permanently annoyed with Arbores because his state of being is sort of to just disappear into the woods and not engage that much with the administrative/royalty things he, Minaya, and Dawn manage.
Tumblr media
This isn't all the existent relationships in these polycules but it is all the most notable ones.
2 - Did the relationship start polyamorous, or was it a monogamous relationship that eventually opened?
All three of these started as technically polyamorous relationships, though they grew little by little. But if you look past the legal requirement it's a little more complicated. Kiatcarmen's polycule has always been a mess, and to be honest she would have been just fine having just Jimmy.
Yera and Hossan in Marcus's polycule started out as a functionally closed couple within the whole (they don't actually restrict each other to this but that was how it was anyway) but a couple years in, Marcus married Gren and Gren became besties with Yera. Over time this morphed into Gren being their third partner, but Gren is still very mobile between the different members and divisions of the polycule.
Minaya's polycule, once completed, was functionally three parallel couples (Minaya and Lanya, Dawn and Arbores, and Lucy and Ramona) until Ramona fessed up about her crush on Lanya and those two couples merged into something like a quad.
3 - If it started monogamous, how did the process of opening the relationship go?
Marcus: for a while it wasn't clear whether Yera and Hossan's relationship was going to open - maybe Yera just had a new fuckbuddy. But Gren and Hossan spent a lot of time together incidentally, and Gren also wanted to be friends with him too, and over time Gren just sort of got absorbed into their dynamic. There was a little jealousy they had to work out (Hossan was very used to being Yera's singular obsession), and there was a conversation at some point, though, when Hossan realized that he no longer thought of Gren as a separate external addition. He still doesn't think of himself as polyam but considers Gren in the same breath as Yera.
Minaya: opening her and Lanya's relationship felt easy. For a while, though, it was pretty much just sexual. That was easiest for everybody, especially with Lucy and Ramona being away for training and competition a lot. But over time it's developed into a more romantic dynamic, which has been fairly smooth, despite Lucy's defensiveness and Lanya's counter-defensiveness. There is some uncertainty about how things will change once Minaya ascends the throne, though.
4 - Are there any mono-poly relationships in the polycule?
Kiatcarmen: sort of. Despite having a sexual and quasi-romantic relationship with Pirianus the only person she's ever considered her partner is Jimmy, so in essence she has always been the monogamous person connected to her own polycule through her very popular spouse.
Marcus: no, but only because Heith isn't monogamous.
Minaya: Lucy teeters on the edge here. She's never outright decided she's monogamous, but she also doesn't have a lot of patience for maintaining multiple romantic partnerships.
5 - What “shape” is the polycule? A triad, a “V”, a straight line of metamours, or incomprehensible?
Kiatcarmen: currently, a cul-de-sac. Kiatcarmen only considers Pirianus anything close to a partner, Pirianus has complicated relationships with her and Thade, and Thade, Caladea, and Orvi are all just vibing with each other. In other words: almost entirely metamours and meta-metamours from Kiatcarmen's perspective, and something resembling a cohesive whole from Thade's.
Marcus: in Marcus's absence, it became kind of a bow tie, with Gren in the middle between Yera & Hossan and Umedes & Pali, and Marcus and Heith as a separate island. Upon his return, it expands into more of an anglerfish - Gren is still the point of connection between Yera & Hossan and Umedes & Pali, but Marcus has joined Umedes and Pali, and also has a connection to Heith.
Minaya: it's more or less a quad (Minaya, Lanya, Ramona, Lucy) with an orbiting couple (Dawn and Arbores).

Finland: The Essential Guide to Exploring In and Around Hossa National Park in 7 Days
Have you experienced the incredible Hossa National Park?
Have you hiked the freshly groomed paths of the woods? Have you foraged for berries and mushrooms in the meadows? Or camped out under the stars?
If you’re looking for that ultimate Finland experience, you’re absolutely going to find it in the Suomussalmi municipality in Northern Finland. In less than an hours flight from Helsinki to Kajaani, you’ll be well on route to your perfect Finland experience.
From Kajaani Airport, you’ll have the opportunity to rent a car and drive 300 kilometers north passing by countless picture perfect lakes and families of deer crossing the road.
The best part about it… the journey has just begun.
Before we dig into our guide highlighting 7 incredible days in and around the Hossa National Park, you might be keen to get a little bit of a background information first.
  History of Hossa National Park
While Hossa National Park was founded this year, in June of 2017, the hiking trails have actually been around since 1979. The opening of the newest national park in Finland also marked the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence.
There are approximately 130 lakes around Hossa National Park and a total of 100 kilometers of marked hiking trails. Hossa National Park offers 60 kilometers of water routes and 60 kilometers of maintained ski trails across 90 square kilometers of protected land. The history of the Hossa area dates back over 8,000 years. Travelers have found a 7,000-year-old clay pot and 4,000-year-old rock paintings (along with many other small artifacts) to prove that life did exist thousands of years ago in the Hossa area.
More recently, Hossa was voted the outdoor destination of the year in 2011 for aquatic tourism, and again in 2014 as the best nature destination of the summer. Regardless of what you’re looking for in your visit, whether that be relaxation, luxury or wild adventure, you’ll find it at Hossa National Park.
I had the pleasure of spending a full week in and around Hossa National Park, relaxing in the saunas, indulging in the luxurious cabin amenities and adventuring overnight deep into the woods of Hossa National Park. It’s now my turn to share with you an essential guide to exploring in and around Hossa National Park in 7 days.
Don’t forget, depending on when you’re hoping to visit Hossa National Park, the summer months in Northern Finland will be sunny and the winter months will be quite dark. Make sure you’re creating your itinerary around the hours of daylight/moonlight and the changing weather.
Day 1: Fly into Kajaani Airport
12:00 PM: Arrive at Kajaani Airport and grab a rental car
While you might be able to hop on a tourist bus and travel to your resort in many cities and towns around the world, Hossa is unique. You can try to catch a bus, but you’re only going to get as far as the border of the town before you’ll need to grab a car to start exploring the wild. To make it easy, grab a rental car from the Kajaani Airport and start your road trip with some good tunes and great friends.
1:30 PM: Make a stop for lunch in Suomussalmi and meet the Silent People
Don’t worry, you will certainly won’t miss the 1,000 Silent People scattered through a field along the main road in Suomussalmi. No one really knows what the Silent People are supposed to represent, the artist has left that up to the visitors to interpret. If you’re making the stop in the summertime, you will have to try out the incredible pancake lunch cooked over a wood burning stove at The Field Café.
3:00 PM: Meet up with Hossa Travel at Kovavaara Wilderness Lodge
Kovavaara Wilderness Lodge is a beautiful rustic lodge, but it’s not available to everyone. It can be booked through Hossa Travel, you’ll just need to give the owner Tarmo a shout and he’ll be the first one to help plan your perfect itinerary out in the wilderness. Once you’ve arrived at Kovavaara Wilderness Lodge, the team at Hossa Travel will give you a tour around the property, introduce you to some Finnish favorites and get you set up for an evening of relaxation.
4:00 PM: Enjoy an afternoon sauna experience
Kovavaara Wilderness Lodge is an escape from the world of fast pace life and electronics. Take an evening to wind down and experience the Finnish sauna before dinner. While many saunas nowadays are powered by diesel or electricity, Kovavaara has a traditional wood burning sauna which makes it a truly unique experience.
If you’re following this itinerary for the duration of your trip, grab some early shut eye today, you’re in for a week of incredible adventures.
Day 2: Learning About the Nature of Finland
11:00 AM – Go foraging in the woods for mushrooms and berries
Learn how to forage in the woods picking herbs, mushrooms or berries (whatever is in season during your trip). If you would like to prepare a little bit before hand, check out our guide to Eating Your Way Through Hossa National Park. During our visit, we picked herbs such as dandelions, nettle, spruce tips and lady’s mantel, all which were delicious additions to our daily meals.
3:00 PM – Spend an afternoon fishing for dinner
Hossa National Park is an incredible place for fishermen with more than 130 lakes and ponds around the area. If you enjoy a little bit of fishing, why not head out with Hossa Travel on a fishing adventure? If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a fish big enough to fry up for dinner.
If you want to find some other spots to fish around the area, check out www.finlandfishing.fi.
5:00 PM – Fish Fry Dinner
Hyvää Ruokahalua / Bon Appetit!
11:30 PM – Enjoy the midnight sunset
If you still have a bit of energy, why not stay up and enjoy an incredible midnight sunset along the water’s edge?
Day 3: Explore Julma-Ölkky Canyon Lake
Julma-Ölkky (also known as Canyon Lake) runs 50 meters deep into the dark waters and 50 meters high above the canyon. Julma-Ölkky is also one of Finland’s largest canyon lakes which is why it is such a gem to visit in the Hossa National Park. So instead of just checking out Julma-Ölkky from a distance, why not dive in and explore it from up high and down low?
10:00 AM: Boat ride or SUP around Canyon Lake
Teija, owner at Lazy Dog SUP Tours will give you a lesson on getting started and take you out onto the Canyon Lake with the stand-up paddle boards. Alternatively, you can hop on a boat and take a short tour around the lake (tickets can be purchased on location).
1:00 PM: Hike 5 kilometer around Canyon Lake
Hop off the board or boat and experience the Canyon Lake from above. You can hike 5 kilometers and then cross the suspension bridge to make your trip back, or you can hike the entire 10-kilometer trail around the lake.
3:00 PM: Visit the Reindeer Farm
The Hossa Reindeer Farm is a home for abandoned reindeer. While they are cared and provided for, they have plenty of space to run around and frolic through the forest. Here you’ll be able to snap a few images, feed them and interact with them.
5:00 PM: Try the Reindeer Soup
The Hossa Reindeer Farm also offers a delicious menu for lunch and dinner including reindeer soup, wild mushroom soup and a number of other local dishes.
7:00 PM: Call it a Night
Not far from the Reindeer Farm is the beautiful Camping Hossan Lumo, offering a variety of accommodation options including luxury cabins, caravan and tent lots. You can also enjoy a relaxing sauna experience before calling it a night.
Day 4: Hike the Hossa National Park
It’s time to get those hiking shoes on to explore Hossa National Park for what it’s really worth.
10:00 AM: Let the hiking begin!
There are a number of trails to choose from, check out our Photo Guide to Hiking Hossa National Park for some inspiration on where to begin.
12:00 PM: Visit the prehistoric rock paintings along the way (Värikallio/Color Rock)
Värikallio is an ancient rock wall with the paintings of what can only be identified as human figures and mythical animals. The paintings were made of blood and red ochre and are estimated to be about 4,000 years old. There are more than 60 different figures that are believed to be linked to shamanism and/or hunting.
1:00 PM & 6:00 PM: Spend lunch and dinner cooking over the campfire
You can join in on a hiking expedition with a tour operator like Hossa Travel, and you’ll have all you need for the perfect trek through the woods. Alternatively, you could plan a hiking trip of your own, just make sure to pack enough food for your journey. If you want to try a few local snacks, check out this photo guide to Eating Your Way Through Hossa National Park.
8:00 PM: Set up hammocks in the woods
You can jump in a sleeping bag, set up a hammock or pitch a tent in Hossa National Park. It’s legal and it’s free!
Day 5: Spend a day relaxing the Finnish way
10:00 AM: Enjoy a morning yoga exercise
It’s up to you. You can try out a few moves on your own, join an instructor and/or try out something unique to Finland, like saunayoga. Saunayoga is a new Finnish favorite, similar to hot yoga, but with a unique Finland twist. JoogaTaival is an excellent activity operator in Hossa and yoga sessions are run by the talented Ms. Saija Taivalmäki.
1:00 PM: Enjoy the afternoon by the water
Today is all about rest and relaxation, so why not go for a swim and relax at one of the clearest lakes in Hossa National Park? You will find a ton of options on the Hossa National Park Excursionmap.
7:00 PM: Spend a night at Camping Hossan Lumo’s
It’s time to grab a hot shower and relax in one of Camping Hossan Lumo’s luxury cabins. There is even a built in sauna, so you don’t have to leave your cabin in your bathrobe.
Day 6: Active & Wild Adventures
Now that you’re well rested, it’s time to get back out and adventure through the National Park.
10:00 AM: Fat bike through the National Park
Have you ever heard of Fat Biking before? It’s an awesome bike designed to tread through snow, grind over rocky rubble and weave around muddy corners. Camping Hossan Lumo offers Fat Bike rentals so you can get out and explore the park in style.
1:00 PM: Husky trekking with Norwide
This might sound relaxing, but it’s definitely quite a wild experience when you first get started. Husky Trekking takes stamina and balance. Norwide organizes Husky Treks around Hossa National Park along with a number of different activities throughout the seasons.
5:00 PM: Spend the night at the Norwide Cottages
Norwide offers more than just adventure tours, they also rent out a number of beautiful and newly renovated cabins in the summer months. Their Hossan Lomakeskus accommodations are the perfect place to wind down. They have a delicious and cozy restaurant and a sauna where you can wind down before departure day.
  Day 7: Departure from Hossa
10:00 AM: Canoe Along the Lake
If you’re up for a little more adventure before departing back to the airport, Norwide rents canoes and bikes so you can explore on your own. Why not take a short canoe ride around the lake? The Norwide accommodations overlook a beautiful lake, perfect for a short exploration.
12:00 PM: Say Goodbye and grab some souvenirs
Don’t forget to make a trip to the Hossa National Park Visitor Centre at some point during your trip. Not only will you learn a great deal about the story and the history of the park, but they have some incredible souvenirs you can take home with you to share with your friends and family.
2:00 PM: Start your trip home
Watch for reindeer on the roads as you reminisce on an amazing week spent exploring through Hossa National Park!
If you want a little more inspiration, you can find the coolest places to stay, the most beautiful hiking trails and tips and tricks to eating your way through the wilderness on our other blog posts about Wild Taiga.

Note
19, 20, 21, 22 for the polycule of your choice? :0
whoops we're doing it for two of them :3 and I'll include Heith too
19 - Summarize your character's goals in one sentence.
Marcus: be okay and go home, but also never have to tell Heith about all of his lies by omission
Heith: figure out if she's actually for real serious about Marcus (she thinks she might be actually for real serious about Marcus) and one way or another move out of her hotel room on Aephar
Yera: be a mom and try to make peace with the fact that Marcus is not here to be a part of the family
Hossan: be a dad and help Umedes figure themself out
Gren: see Marcus again and hopefully find out that there was no need to be jealous about his girlfriend, and make sure everyone's okay, especially the baby
Pali: prevent Kiatcarmen from finding Marcus (though that isn't a very active job), make sure the shifter coalition in the court doesn't budge, and get somewhere with her studies of shifter magic
Umedes: figure out whether they want to have a kid or not help
Kiatcarmen: find Marcus, because Minaya must not ascend, and do whatever else she can to preserve her accomplishments in the kingdom
Pirianus: broaden Kiatcarmen's vision beyond legacy, or, failing that, as he has for some 30+ years, get her to open up to him
Caladea: see Marcus again, and for his polycule's sake believe with all her heart the lies they tell Kiatcarmen
Thade: continue completing the political project du jour and end up in a happily ever after with Pirianus, which might also make him more welcome in the palace
Orvi: complete the one thing he was installed in the palace to accomplish
20 - Who's in the way of those goals?
Marcus: his mother. Always his mother. And honestly a little bit himself
Heith: herself, mostly. This is so not like her - well, specifically the part where she's still here when there have been plenty of times to go home
Yera: realistically, Kiatcarmen. But she still sometimes feels like she's lost some of her verve
Hossan: Umedes is the big challenge here. They're just so indecisive
Gren: Kiatcarmen, but sometimes it's easier to focus on the fact that Marcus has an interstellar girlfriend that none of them have ever met and that's so frustrating
Pali: herself. There aren't enough hours in the day for everything, and she has to sleep ugh
Umedes: themself, because they were the one who said this would be a great idea for when Marcus comes back. Who 100% believed Pali and Minaya and her ferasca spouses that this would go great. And who also took one look at Yera & Hossan's baby and thought that maybe they were signing up for more than they realized
Kiatcarmen: Marcus. Always Marcus. But she also blames Minaya and Yera and Pali for his disappearance, and she needs Pirianus to just shut up. This would have been so much easier with Jimmy
Pirianus: Kiatcarmen because he put his eggs all in one basket. But he mostly blames himself
Caladea: Kiatcarmen, but she tries to focus on what she can do better, and how she's getting in her own way
Thade: he's beginning to suspect he's been in his own way this entire time but it can't be understated how much Pirianus is constantly hot and cold
Orvi: it changes frequently, but always some contingent of the court
21 - What is your character's relationship with their emotions?
Marcus: he can't control his bad emotions, so he suppresses them. This has never caused any problems
Heith: she's just as cynical about her emotions as she is about everything else, but sometimes she just can't not feel something completely unironically
Yera: she's gonna feel them whatever they are so [grits teeth] negative emotions are part of the fullness of experience (she will be screaming into this pillow later)
Hossan: left to his own devices, he would feel his emotions, and then let them cast away upon the wind. Being with Yera and Gren has made him learn how to interrogate them more
Gren: he feels everything. A lot. He also conceptualizes things in terms of feelings a lot
Pali: she would like to believe she doesn't have them, but then she lays awake at night deconstructing them
Umedes: they tend to put intense feelings away for later, but don't ever get to later unless later comes for them first
Kiatcarmen: her emotions are so rich and nuanced and nobody understands that, so all of her emotions collapse into some flavor of annoyance
Pirianus: don't like that feeling? Repress it! This will never result in it returning in continually more warped and incomprehensible forms
Caladea: being in the palace seems to have stunted her emotions - they're flatter, duller, and way more anxious no matter what they are
Thade: don't like that feeling? Deflect it! The more mirrors there are between you and your emotions the less you will ever know what they are and the less you can ever be responsible for them
Orvi: he has a mental Tupperware for emotions that allows him to keep control of himself. He is the only person on this list who will actually open that Tupperware on purpose later
22 - What regrets do they have, if any? (From any part of the story, not just exposition.)
Marcus: missing out on eight years of his "real" life, and especially not being there when Gren's grandmother died. If only he'd been stronger, he could have stayed
Heith: before finding out about Marcus, that she's kind of a flake to her band, but they don't seem to mind that much. After finding out about Marcus, that she ever thought there was some kind of "magic" between them and maybe she could feel naïve about love for two seconds
Yera: she regretted drifting away from her father and sister, so she's fixing that now
Hossan: most of his regrets are from the now-distant past and don't make much sense - even he will say so - but he always finds himself regretting that he can't seem to do more for people
Gren: not going home even more before his grandmother died, even though he was practically splitting his time between his home city and the palace. He also regrets letting Marcus leave, even though he had to, and there was no other real choice
Pali: after getting married, she got more distant from her professor mentor, and the regret hit her hard when they died
Umedes: most immediately, thinking that having a kid was a good idea (they are beginning to think that this is a pregnancy kink that got out of hand). But more than anything they regret not going with Marcus, even though they couldn't
Kiatcarmen: Ashmalo was a liability, but she still regrets that he died (despite her image she does not think that assassination is the right way to deal with most problems, including Ashmalo). Conversely, she regrets that she couldn't save Jimmy, even though medical science itself could not have saved Jimmy. She also regrets letting Minaya slip out from under her thumb, because if she hadn't, she wouldn't be stuck looking for her runaway son
Pirianus: that he can't seem to permanently extract himself from Thade. If he stops and thinks about it (read: gets drunk and sad) he regrets spending so many years of his life trying to get through to a woman who would just as soon throw him to the dogs
Caladea: that she couldn't do more for Marcus or Minaya or Ashmalo, and that she still can't. And that being stuck in the palace has left her struggling to try and pick up the pieces of her creativity and her passion even though it should have given her unlimited resources to pursue them
Thade: things he's said to people. Most of them used to be seared in his brain because he thought they were funny, and eventually he figured out that oh, maybe they weren't. But some of them seemed bad from the moment they came out of his mouth (not before that, unfortunately, because he wasn't thinking about it) and he wishes he could take them back for real, especially the things he's said to Pirianus
Orvi: that he's still here. He had one thing to accomplish, and even though it was complex, it's taking SO. LONG. He knew that marrying into the royal family meant that he probably wasn't going to permanently go home again, but the longer this drags on the less he even wants to show his face there, and he wonders if it was worth it at all

Marcus's spouses
I'm still working out a lot of worldbuilding here but I have enough to share @kk7-rbs and also @vacantgodling since you've been talking about Celestial Weddings harems lol
A little background
Historically, tensions in Iecunem (not the whole planet probably but I don't have a name for the kingdom) have most often risen along species lines. Putting a larger variety of species in the monarch's cabinet didn't have as much of an effect as people had hoped, so a new plan was hatched: require the monarch to marry at least one member of each species. This actually begins with the heir, who generally marries long before they ever ascend the throne. By the time Marcus begins marrying, this has been the status quo for hundreds of years, and the system is fairly refined: the species coalitions nominate potential matches who can both advocate for species interests and will at least be good friends with the heir. The heir can reject them, because having a marriage among despiseds kind of defeats the point, but the heir can only get away with that so many times.
Marcus is required by law to have four spouses. He has five, currently. In order of marriage:
Yera
Tumblr media
Picrew: https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/1706331
Yera was an easy first choice. She was already a friend of his through being a noblewoman, and she was easy to put on a courtship with. She was supposed to be his paired mate - the one who would produce a bovan heir for the throne - but they had an alternate plan behind the scenes. Yera already had a thing going with her courier, so Marcus would just marry him too and they could have kids if they wanted, because Marcus never wanted to carry on his mother's bloodline, and he and Yera had never been into each other.
Yera's life philosophy is to enjoy the hell out of it, as long as she's not preventing anyone else from doing so. In public she's known for her sparkling wit and constantly changing hairstyle. In private she's known for making sure everyone can be included in the good shit (watching sunsets, drinking hot chocolate, lounging in the pool, &c.) if they want to (if not, their loss) and also being draped over Hossan or her buddy Gren. She's not as close with Pali or Umedes, but she still very much considers them family. Lately a good chunk of her time has been spent with her and Hossan's baby.
Umedes
Tumblr media
Picrew: uh the BG3 character creator lol
It's bad form to marry two people of your same species back to back, so after marrying Yera Marcus followed up on the request from the ferasca coalition, who had unanimously decided to present him with a single candidate: a silver ferasca named Umedes. He went into their courtship period with an open mind, but neither he nor Yera was sure about having such a grave spouse. Yera decided pretty quickly that they were fine and she didn't really care. As Marcus got past their mutual nerves, he uncovered Umedes' soft side and sense of humor, which, uh, did things to him and they spent the latter half of their courtship banging it out.
Umedes seems like a downer on the outside, and that's how they tend to be perceived by the public. They're fine with that - no one wants to bother the serious, boring spouse. While they're still quiet in private, they're much warmer, and Gren also says they're very warm to cuddle with. Especially since Marcus left, they're closest to Pali, and are rarely seen without her in matters of official business - or, for that matter, of unofficial pleasure. The two of them and Marcus's sister Minaya, who he intends to abdicate to, have been talking about getting Marcus to marry another ferasca to get Umedes pregnant and provide another potential heir.
Hossan
Tumblr media
Picrew: https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/1706331
Despite the fact that everyone knew Marcus was marrying Hossan for Yera's benefit, tradition dictated that their wedding was centered around the two of them. They'd gotten to know each other decently well over their courtship, and while Hossan was much more interesting than his quiet "just some guy" demeanor would suggest, Marcus also couldn't help being distracted by just how handsome he is. Yera of course already adored him, and Umedes was just hoping to find him a pleasant acquaintance but got very wrapped up in hearing his daring stories of couriership, none of which were made up, but some of which sounded extremely fantastical.
Hossan was surprised when Yera first pitched her and Marcus's plan to him, before Marcus and Yera had even started their courtship. He thought that he and Yera were just having a fling - he would certainly be interested in a longer-term arrangement, but he didn't think she was. It took him a while to summon the courage to say yes, because he wasn't sure he'd be cut out for palace life, or for being part of a mild plot. The slowly deepening twists of the plot still make him nervous, but he's settled in as the "just some guy" of the spouses. His time ends up divided relatively evenly between them, and he knows them all more deeply than any one of the others, save Marcus, who never truly opened up to him. He doesn't suspect that Pali has any more than a little crush on him, though, and that in itself is pretty flattering. He's almost as obsessed with Yera as she is with him, but he's absolutely over the moon about being a dad.
Pali
Tumblr media
Picrew: https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/1342558 (she should have darker skin but I couldn't say no to that perfect hair and expression)
The shifter coalition presented Marcus with four potential matches, and as he essentially speed-dated them on the first day, Pali was one of two that he felt comfortable with. The thing that ultimately set her the most apart was that when he warned her about the constantly worsening situation with his mother, she metaphorically cracked her knuckles and said, "I've managed worse," and he believed her. His crush on her has always been a little bit informed by how she's the only person he's ever met who genuinely doesn't seem to give a shit about his mom's whole deal. Yera extra liked her upon realizing that she would be a willing shield against the queen, Hossan liked her easy laugh, and Umedes was concerned that she'd drag them into conflicts with the queen until she actually laid out her thinking.
Pali is serious and straightforward like Umedes and is always thinking two steps ahead, but is also lighthearted and mostly unguarded around the spouses. She is their de-facto leader and typically the one making announcements about them in Marcus's absence. She trusts Umedes and Marcus most closely, but she is also hopelessly in love with Hossan, something she never intends to tell him (while Yera is not actively jealous of him, Pali can't imagine her ever accepting someone else having an ongoing romantic interest in him, even if Hossan himself did). As for Gren, she loves him as a friend, but has the least patience for him out of any of them.
Gren
Tumblr media
Picrew: https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/1473879 (edited a bit to make his shoulders wider)
Of the human coalition's three suitors, one was excruciatingly stiff, one seemed to only care about their own agenda, and one was Grenadine "please, call me Gren", the definition of himbo. The political play was that no reasonable person would refuse anything to such a kind, hardworking man, whether that be royal luxury or aid for human-specific issues. And that play was spot on, because nothing about Gren is anything but genuine sweetness. Marcus mostly noted that he was nice to be around and a good listener, Pali liked him well enough, and Umedes and Hossan thought he was cute and fun to play games with, but Yera wanted to reject him on the basis that he would usurp her position as the generous, fun-loving spouse. She locked herself in a room with him for five hours and when she emerged, she approved of him. To this day no one else knows what happened in that room, and they've stopped asking.
Gren is the muscle and the support of the spouses. He's thick as thieves with Yera, but also spends plenty of time with Hossan and Umedes, and is usually found cuddled up with someone while they talk to him. Pali scares him a little, and he tries very hard to know when to stay out of her way. When Marcus was still around Gren eventually took too much advantage of Marcus's soft spot for him and had to be gently asked to "please stop following me around like a puppy". He decided unilaterally after he arrived at the palace that he would be the slut spouse. He's not seductive or provocative normally, but if one of the spouses says "jump", he says "like, here? or in my dungeon?". He remains the only spouse who has had sex with all the others.

Rose's Kiss Week Day 2: Hideaway
OCs: Marcus Asalun (aka Anchesh Pabat) and Hossan Koramulos
Words: 678
Content warnings: none
Notes: Hossan will soon become Anchesh's third spouse, but he used to be a courier for the house of Miants (Yera's family), and is for most intents and purposes Yera's partner. Both he and Anchesh are bovans (think catgirl but part cow instead).
“I’m good with our arrangement,” Hossan said, mostly to the shady woods, “but what does it make us?”
Anchesh looked over at him, a familiar but respectful distance away on the log they were sitting on. In some ways the arrangement made them no different than himself and Yera—friends, and spouses. But Hossan’s almost-black fur caressed the square of his jaw, and his dark curls fell lightly around his horns, and his long lashes framed his endless brown eyes, and for two weeks Anchesh had been wondering if they could call themselves lovers, too.
“Whatever we want to be,” was what he said.
“I guess I’m asking, what do you want us to be?”
“I shouldn’t be the one deciding that.”
Now Hossan really looked at him. “I’m asking you as Anchesh, not as the heir. As...my friend?”
Anchesh dropped his eyes to the leaf-scattered path while he gathered his thoughts. “I do want us to be friends—I think we are, already, but closer friends. And we’ll be spouses.” He swallowed. “And...” His cheeks warmed, but he had to finish the sentence—“well, I wouldn’t mind if things got a little physical as well.”
Hossan gave him that smile he always gave Yera, somewhere between surprised, embarrassed, and coy. “Well, you can be my guest.”
Oh.
Anchesh shifted closer on the log before he thought better of it. The way he touched Hossan had always been fleeting, almost perfunctory. But now his fingers made tiny crests in the fuzz of Hossan’s cheeks, and Hossan put a hand on his leg, sending a silent thrill through him. He brought his lips to Hossan’s, carefully, softly, and got softness in return, from the plushness of Hossan’s lips to the gentle hand caressing the back of his neck. Hossan’s hands should be exploring, dipping into the collar of his shirt and under the hem of his summer skirts, pulling him closer, inviting him in, because he wanted to go wherever Hossan would lead him. But Hossan wasn’t much of a leader. Anchesh knew this already, and yet he hoped that Hossan would get so swept up in this kiss that he just couldn’t help himself. That he had also spent their courtship spurred on by the aching longing in his chest and held back by the seeping fear in the pit of his stomach that he was not worth wanting. Because it would be so easy to dispel that kind of nonsense fear from Hossan, even if he couldn’t quite disbelieve it about himself. Because who wouldn’t want Hossan, and want this perfect kiss to last forever?
As he gently broke their kiss, he expected Hossan to pull away, but instead Hossan kissed him again. Maybe he’d been wrong about what Hossan wanted. Maybe all he’d had to do was extend the invitation. Maybe they could take this back to the house and—
His phone alarm rang, and so did Hossan’s. They both scrambled to get their phones out of their pockets. When he saw what the alarm was—a reminder to get ready for the betrothal approval meeting—he heard a tiny groan from Hossan.
Hossan’s alarm was already off when he turned off his. Into the sudden silence, he said, “These meetings aren’t that bad.”
“Once upon a time, I could have just run in and run right back out,” Hossan said, dropping off the log and offering Anchesh a hand. He didn’t really need it—his feet were maybe two inches from the ground—but he was happy to accept it. When Hossan started walking along the path, he kept his warm hand wrapped around Anchesh’s.
“It’ll only take a little longer than that,” Anchesh said. “You answer a couple questions, sign the paperwork, and then they leave. It almost takes longer to get dressed for it.”
Hossan smiled ruefully to the path in front of them. “I miss having a uniform.”
“It would be nice. But I’m glad you’re here.” He squeezed Hossan’s hand and Hossan squeezed back, giving him a grateful little smile.

Pabatcule incorrect quotes for no reason
I had this saved in one of my million .txt docs that I use for answering asks and they were too funny not to just post. From the incorrect quotes generator (which is not loading for me right now but I assume it still works):
A brief history of Marcus
Hossan: You look really stressed. Marcus: Haha, it’s the stress.
Gren, putting their hands over Marcus's eyes: Guess who! Marcus: It's either Gren or the cold, clammy hands of death. Gren, putting their hands away: It's Gren! Marcus: Dammit.
Pali: We’re kind of missing something guys. Umedes: Cohesion? Hossan: Teamwork? Yera: A general sense of what we’re doing? Gren: And Marcus is not here. Umedes: Oh, and that, yeah.
Yera and Gren: [making loud, shouty gorilla sounds at each other] Heith: ... Marcus, exasperatedly: We have a guest.
Assorted dynamics
Yera: You call yourself my soulmate, but where were you when my meme only had four likes? Gren: Making four accounts. Yera, tearing up: Really…?
Marcus: [dies] Yera: Timer starts now! When are they coming back? I say two months! Pali: Bullshit. One month. Umedes: Nah, half a month. Gren, sobbing: WHAT ARE YOU DOING? MARCUS JUST DIED! Hossan, scratching chin in thought: One week.
Hossan, opening a Capri Sun: Guess I'll drink my sorrows away.
Gren: Wasn't icarly that guy that girlbossed too close to the sun because he was down for Apollo? Umedes: ICARUS?
Yera: Truth or dare? Pali: Dare. Yera: I dare you to kiss the hottest person in the room. Pali: Hey Marcus? Marcus, blushing: Yeah? Pali: Can you move? I'm trying to get to Hossan.
Yera: I give up. I am so tired. Umedes: Get the emergency supply! Gren: [carries Hossan and puts him in front of Yera] Hossan: [smiles] Yera: AND I AM BACK BABY, LET’S GOOO
if you want more of these goobers come send me an ask with a 2, 3, or 4

3 for the dynamics game 👀
send me a number, get some dynamics
4, 3, 6
Hossan, Umedes, Gren
Together, these three form the gamer trifecta of the Pabatcule. They usually play board and card games, but anything that sounds fun is worth trying. Generally speaking, Gren has the best reflexes, Umedes is the best at bluffing, and Hossan has the best strategy. Gren is not banned from wearing rings to play games but after the ERS Injury Incident he was banned from wearing them for slap games and just kind of decided not to during game hours (does he think there will be surprise ERS? no. but what if there is). I'm imagining Gren playing something like Cave Story or Super Mario Odyssey and Hossan and Umedes pointing things out to him because he's very good at the controls but he overlooks everything.
Gren & Umedes
The tallest spouses, both six feet tall. Gren thinks of Umedes like the older sibling he never had (he's an only child). Umedes has the infinite patience to explain things to him and the situational wisdom to know when to give up. They spend their time together out in the gardens, talking, or inside pouring over their various magazines. They do have one shared magazine subscription, about plants, because they both wanted to learn more because of spending so much time in the gardens. Gren is known to fall asleep when they cuddle because Umedes is just so comforting. Over the years Umedes has become comfortable enough with Gren to let him pamper them when they have to shed.
Sexually they have a more intense dynamic. Umedes is a masochist who loves anything with a blade, and Gren loves the skill of administering pain. Gren has also become an expert on scale anatomy to figure out how to drive Umedes wild without actually hurting them ("I could have been a doctor," he says, "except that bodily fluids are gross."). It's not exactly a d/s dynamic in the most usual sense, because Gren doesn't like playing The Dom, but Umedes is always gunning for subspace. As long as Gren doesn't have to be mean he can work over Umedes all day. That's what the restraints are for :3 A lot of what they do in the bedroom/dungeon is just this kind of pain play, but Gren also can't get enough of Umedes' forked tongue.
Gren & Hossan
Hossan has always been part of Gren's package deal - any best friendship with Yera has to involve Hossan somehow, and even though the two of them don't have the same kind of rapport, they're very close. There are occasional moments of jealousy between them, but they've learned that that just means that one of them has a need that's not getting met, rather than that their triad is crumbling. Hossan tends to be a bit laconic, but Gren knows all the things he likes to talk about (especially music, building infrastructure and remodeling, and birds), and likes listening. What he likes even more is watching Hossan do calligraphy. It's mesmerizing. Sometimes Hossan will leave him notes with complex flourishes and such on them, and Gren has saved every single one. Hossan has also taught Gren to do Yera's hair, though a lot of the time neither of them do Yera's hair. Aside from playing games and hanging about, the thing they do most together is birdwatch. Lately they've also spent a lot of time with the baby.
Sexually it's a toss-up whether it will just be them or Yera will also be involved. But between the two of them things tend to be less kinky and more sensual (which in itself could be a kink but Hossan doesn't really see it that way, mostly because he doesn't conceptualize himself as a very kinky person). Their mutual goal is to melt in each other's embrace, but how they get there isn't always soft. If the palace does in fact have a private sauna they've definitely fucked in there, but it certainly has big fancy showers and baths that they've enjoyed.
Hossan & Umedes
Hossan and Umedes don't spend a ton of time alone together. It's not that they don't like each other - they get along quite well actually - but that they lead sort of separate lives, and being around Pali all the time also inherently tends to draw Umedes away from Hossan, because Pali has a weird distant relationship with him. Umedes remains fascinated with Hossan's past life as a courier, and has slowly started to spend more time with him to learn how to do calligraphy (something something connoisseurs of the obscenity of the fountain pen). Hossan is trying to get Umedes comfortable being around the baby - not because Umedes needs to care for the baby but because every time Umedes interacts with the baby they do it with the utmost care and a look of mortal panic on their face. They're terrified of doing something wrong, which they want to get over in itself, but they're also starting to wonder whether having a baby of their own in the future is a good idea and have started discussing it with Hossan.
The two of them don't have a sexual relationship but they do sometimes have moments of particular physical intimacy, like sharing horn balms or Hossan helping Umedes with shedding-related activities. Hossan usually isn't a part of the shedding process, but Umedes has always found it easier to let him in than Gren because it somehow feels less personal and embarrassing with him.

Still thinking about Marcus (<- made the mistake of getting up to do dishes which only gave me more time to think about Marcus)
It must be so surreal to come home and feel his mother's absence. To interact with her spouses - his parents - without having to think about what it will mean to her. To be left with:
Ferasca parent, first marriage, detached but also the one grieving her the most
Shifter parent, first marriage, leaned into the fun-loving persona and stayed out of her way
Bovan parent, second marriage, kind but forever a stranger because they took Marcus's father's place nine years ago
Human parent, second marriage, more concerned with other things because the queen left them to their own devices - she loved her first human spouse more
And meet his kid - Yera insists that it's his kid too - and cry over the fact that they won't have to grow up with a mother like his, or a grandmother that is his mother, and hopefully won't lose any of their dads for decades to come.
On a lighter note maybe I should do ship asks with the spouses 🤔

wait okay I thought about it for five more minutes and as much as prophecies would be a fun AU I think the thing that motivates Marcus's mom is legacy.
In her mind, she took the kingdom from its lackluster state under her parents and made it great. It is true that she made it more prosperous, but it wasn't really bad to begin with. But she is obsessed with having an heir who will carry on her work exactly the way she would do it. And that heir was supposed to be Marcus.
She brought him up to follow in her footsteps. But her need to make everything just so meant that she only got more controlling and less willing to empathize with him, because he needed to suck it up and do it her way. Her vision of her legacy is more important than just about anything. Anyone who gets in the way of that is her enemy, and anyone who doesn't support it is expendable (which I think includes Marcus's father. I don't mean that she killed him but rather that she had some nebulous indirect influence on the situation that did, and even if she didn't, she's not particularly sorry). I think she thinks the state of the kingdom is the only real accomplishment she has, the only one that is unique and that means anything.
To be flippant, she needs a hobby.
Maybe she's not actually mean to everyone all of the time. Maybe she concentrates it all onto Marcus and those who are close to him (his spouses, his sister, his father) get the backsplash. And you know she would just have Marcus's sister Minaya take the throne instead, but she was too soft on Minaya and let her form too many of her own opinions and plans, so now she can't be trusted. Marcus is all of her hopes and dreams, which is why he shouldn't have married so many saccharine sluts, and why he can't be distracted with pigment magic, and why he needs to come home, if only she could find him.
