I, uh, was too overcome with emotions to say anything comprehensible in the last ask, sorry. I love your 1960s Antarc, they're so cute and also so relatable. Can you tell us a bit about Shinsha?

here’s some equally relatable 1960s AU Shinsha facts:

- smol, very smol. Shinsha is barely 1.60(5.2 ft) and that only if you count the thick layer of grease on their hair

- to overcompensate, they wear very, very baggy clothes. The more oversized the better, but they don’t own much stuff to begin with, most of it is borrowed (or stolen from Bort). Like the other gems, they are basically an orphan so they own only what they could buy with their own money. But Shinsha never saw the point of buying clothes. They are also very clumsy and they get dirty easily. As a child, they learned very early to hide from Red Beryl.

- FRECKLES

- terrible eating and sleeping schedule. They survive off coffee and the leftovers that Bort, Dia and Euclase keep providing them. Because Cinnabar can’t cook, they never tried, they’d let themselves die of starvation before they engage in physical labor. As a result, they are really skinny: they have the smallest wrists.

- Cinnabar shares a bday with Dia, but Dia was always the most popular among the two of them, so Shinsha gave up on celebrating their own birthday very soon. Younger gems don’t even know that Cinnabar and Diamond were born on the same day.

- all the thoughts, all the time. They are extremely reserved and anxious, they have no idea what social skills are but sometimes that’s a good thing because it helps them speak their mind. Which they don’t do too often because anxiety. And because they spend most of their days alone.

- my original idea for Shinsha was that they never accepted the fact that somebody could abandon them. Why them? What did they do? How can they be worth something if even their parents could not care less about them? What’s the point of bonding with other people? They’re just going to leave. Later on, I scratched this idea off because I wanted to focus on other things, I liked more the idea of the gems just ‘existing.’ But Shinsha retained a low self-worth anyway and a general hostility toward the world.

- as a drinking game: take a sip every time Cinnabar shoves their hands inside their pockets. Because they do that a lot. Take a sip when they say ‘Alright,’ because they just don’t care enough to give more articulated responses. And also: take a sip every time Cinnabar stares gayly at Phos. Cause they have a tendency to space out when their favorite local dumbass is around.

- Phos was literally their only friend. And that’s where I deviate from canon a little. They grew up together, Phos is three/four years their junior. They came to town when Shinsha was 10 and decided (somehow) that Shinsha was cool and they had to become bffs. Amazingly enough, it worked.

- The problem with Shinsha is that they don’t speak up, they just let things go by. They went as far as quitting high-school so they could spend more time with Phos, because they were very much in love with them, except they never told Phos. This backfired really quickly. Phos never noticed Shinsha’s feelings and then Antarc came to town just a year later and Phos decided to move in with them.

- Shinsha didn’t take that well and they resent Phos a lot. During the years Phos was away, Phos never called or visited and that only made Shinsha more bitter. So, when Phos finally comes back, 5/6 years later, things ain’t gonna be pretty.

- after Phos left, Shinsha spiraled into a deep existential crisis and had to decide what to do with their life, if there was even something they wanted from their life. Cause they had only thought about Phos up to now. They grew closer to Bort and Bort helped them opening up (just the tiniest bit) to the other gems. Alex took Shinsha under their wing and, eventually, Cinnabar decided to go back to school so they could help Alex with teaching.

- they’re currently studying math at uni, at their own pace, and working as teacher, assistant, librarian etc with Alex.

- I hc Shinsha as a straight A student. Cinnabar is canonically brilliant, they just lack the motivation/passion/confidence to put their skills to use. I think that, if they set their mind on something, and they really want it, they have the ability to be amazing at it.

A four shot story, about Eliza’s experience fusing with Alexander.

In The Heights

The Two Cousins: (Multiple canon pairings) Times can be tough in the Heights, and when it really comes down to it, all they have is each other. A series of one-shots about Usnavi and Sonny’s relationship from childhood to adulthood. Takes place pre, during, and post canon.

When the Sun Goes Down: (Multiple canon pairings) Based on Spirited Away. When moving to a new town, Sonny can’t help but feel down about the circumstances. But he and his cousin get more than they bargained for when they accidently stumble across an abandoned theme park that just happens to be where spirits and ghosts run and play when the sun goes down. When Usnavi goes missing, and Sonny finds himself alone and trapped in a world that hates humans, he comes across a boy named Pete, and it’s up to them to try and keep Sonny safe in this amazing and dangerous world. But can Sonny and Usnavi even get home? Can Sonny trust Pete to help him? …And why does he feel so familiar?

Since I Gave My Heart Away: (No real pairings) Based on Wolf Children. Usnavi was an ordinary boy with an ordinary life. But fate had other plans for him when his parents suddenly passed away. He is given to the care of his aunt and uncle and after learning that his uncle has a deep secret, he’s given a cousin that will carry the same secret as his father: being part wolf. But when his aunt and uncle die suddenly, Usnavi must raise Sonny on his own, embarking on the difficult but rewarding adventure of their lives, fraught with love, hardship, family, heartbreak, community, friendship, and tears. And through it all, the bond between two cousins from completely opposite words is tested as they go through the trials of growing up and finding their own path.

An ordinary day becomes a nightmare, as Usnavi, Sonny, and Chip lose everything in a terrible fire. Family, friends, a home, they have absolutely nothing…except for a large fortune that’s not to be used until Usnavi turns 28 due to a specific will. Until Usnavi comes of age, the De la Vegas are taken to stay with a distant relative, known as Count Rodriguez. But they quickly discover that he’s only after their fortune, and will do whatever is necessary to get his hands on it. The small family of three must do everything they can to survive, as the madman chases them, as their shipped to relative after relative. But it seems that wherever they go, Count Rodriguez and a series of unfortunate events seem to follow, peppered with questions and mystery. Was the fire really an accident? Were there survivors? And just who is Count Rodriguez, and what is being kept from the De la Vegas?

*Who Keeps Our Legacy: (Canon pairings): Based on the musical Hamilton.How does an illegitimate, orphan, immigrant somehow become a hero and a scholar at the tender age of fifteen? *I May Have Seen Yesterday/But I Do Not Fear Tomorrow: (Canon pairings) Two part story based on the films Alien and Aliens. In space, no one can hear you scream. No one knows that better than Usnavi. As a child, he barely survived when a hostile alien infiltrated his parent’s ship, killing everyone onboard, except for him and his infant cousin, Sonny. Fifteen years later, when the same aliens reappears, Usnavi must face his past fears if he wants to protect his cousin and get his loved ones out alive.

# Unnamed Moana AU: (Canon pairings) Based on Moana. Sonny leaves his island in search of the Demigod Pete, so as to not only prove his worth to his island, but to restore the Heart and bring life back to the ocean and islands.

# Unnamed Cat AU: (Canon pairings) Based on this masterpost. Usnavi’s life changes forever, when he imprints on a little newborn kitten. Now saddled with the responsibility of being a parent, Usnavi and rest of the barrio cats have to raise Sonny right.

# Unnamed Sickly!Sonny AU: (canon pairings) Everything is the same but Sonny is constantly sick. Financially struggling in the barrio is difficult, especially when you have a young cousin who desperately needs money for medical care to keep him alive.
