i'd love to read constantin/caleb with camellia as the prompt, if you feel like it. your take on the big decision at the end of the game, maybe? 👀
Thank you!
It’s a smaller fill since my writing feels so rusty at the moment, but here you go :D
Camellia(my destiny is in your hands)
It’s a strange sense of peacefulness that settles for them after the madness of all which had come before.
Within the sanctuary which once been home to en on mil frictimen both of the new gods rest. The light from the setting sun shines its way through the many trees which have since grown, casting a glow upon Caleb’s face where he sleeps in Constantin’s arms. Constantin is awake, contently watching Caleb’s calm expression with a small smile of his own, his hand lightly moving over Caleb’s hair and horns. Every so often his hand stops travelling, and Constantin uses the power which is now so much a part of him to craft a flower into Caleb’s hair.
By the time he’s working on the fourth flower is when Caleb speaks.
“Don’t think I can’t feel what you’re doing.”
Constantin’s hand stills. He laughs.
“I thought you were sleeping.”
“I was. At first,” comes Caleb’s mumbled response.
Caleb moves to sit up slightly, deciding to settle his chin upon Constantin’s chest. He meets Constantin’s innocent gaze, eyebrows rising slightly in his own amusement.
“You do realise you could have just woken me up if you were bored?”
“When you looked so peaceful?” Constantin replies, letting his hand fall to rest against the small of Caleb’s back. “Nonsense. Besides, I was having fun.”
“Of course you were.”
Constantin smiles, pulling Caleb closer towards himself and pressing a kiss against the crown of his head.
All he ever desired for them both was a world all of their own. One where they weren’t a tool to be used in other peoples games, or where the world would no longer judge them based on their actions and inactions. As he grew older Constantin began to believe his dream would remain a distant fantasy.
He knows that’s not true any longer.
Perhaps he’s selfish. Perhaps after what he’s done to find this so long sort after happiness - what it cost to achieve - he is the monster the natives say he is. Constantin doesn’t care. He has everything he could ever want, right here with him. He’ll do anything to protect that.
He knows Caleb would do the same for him.

Small little drabble before I get stuck in on the requests sitting in my inbox. This is for the prompt ‘do you hate me?’ from this prompt list.
Now posted over here on AO3.
Vasco tries not to freeze as the very person he’s been avoiding sits beside him. He continues staring ahead at the expanse of trees before them, stubbornly doing his best to ignore the visitor, both hoping and dreading that they’ll eventually decide to leave him alone.
He does well in pretending that their presence has gone unnoticed to him. That is until the softly spoken question reaches his ears.
“Do you hate me?”
Vasco can't stop how he sneers to himself; how he lets out a quick huff of breath whilst giving a small shake of his head in disbelief. Because by all rights he should hate Caleb. All the reasons are swimming at the forefront of his thoughts, telling him that he should hate how Caleb's decision ended up breaking the world, hate that he didn’t choose him in the end — or rather, that he didn't choose what they had together. He should hate him for all the years Vasco spent mourning him, believing him to be gone; taken far, far, away to a place he could never follow.
Deep in his heart however, Vasco knows it's impossible for him to feel any such thing.
He can be mad at him. He can wish he'd never found out the truth, that he'd continued to live in the ignorance Caleb's supposed death brought in its wake.
But Vasco can never truly hate Caleb.
After all this time and after everything that's happened, he still loves him far too much.
“It would be easier if I did,” Vasco finally settles to respond, his eyes narrowing as he speaks. Beside him Caleb nods his head gracefully, waiting a stretch of a moment before breaking the silence between them once more.
“I doubt it would make much difference to you now. But on the chance that it does mean anything ... know that I am truly sorry.”
Although his voice hasn’t changed by much over the stretch of years Vasco doesn't fail to notice how Calebs tone is somewhat ... calmer than he remembers. He supposes that it is another subtle change Godhood has brought about him, just as it had changed aspects of Caleb's own appearance.
“Although it was never my intention, I deceived you. My choices have brought you much pain, and I wish -“
“Wishes are meaningless,” Vasco interrupts, not wanting to hear what direction Caleb's words are going. “Even you with all your godly powers can’t change the past.”
Another long silence settles between them, the tension brought with it taut. Vasco's mind wanders, trekking down the dangerous path of memories; dreams he'd once carried for them both. Briefly he torments himself with the thought of a life they could have shared together, a possibility which had once dangled so temptingly before him before fates cruel hands hastened to snatch it away.
"Vasco - I want ... no. I need you to know. It was never a choice of whom I loved more."
Vasco turns his gaze slightly towards him, noticing how Caleb seems almost ... nervous. He remains silent, inviting Caleb to carry on. To explain.
"I thought I could do it. That I could stop Constantin. Yet when I was faced against him ..."
Caleb clenches his eyes tightly. Vasco watches as he shakes his head, eyes opening as a frown deepens across his brow.
"I’ve since realised that when it comes to the people that I love I am selfish, Vasco. I would have done the same if it were you standing where he stood that day. While my Cousin's death may have saved the world for others, it would have crushed mine into dust."
“That's where you're wrong," answers Vasco, words spoken like a growl. "Godhood doesn’t suit you, Caleb. Or at least - it doesn’t suit the Caleb I fell in love with. Then again, you as good as killed that man the same day you damned the rest of us.”
Vasco notices Caleb’s face flicker, before hardening behind a carefully constructed mask. The truth is a hurtful thing, but then Vasco doesn’t feel Caleb should remain ignorant to it. A little bit of pain is nothing compared to what he's caused others to feel.
“You were never selfish. Once you used to care. You used to care about everything. A peaceful world - that’s what you wished for. What you wanted to build alongside your Cousin. An idealistic fantasy perhaps, but it was a dream worth aspiring too, and one I was damn well proud to help you work towards.”
He still remembers the nights on the journey to Tir Fradi, back when the two of them were still hesitant about one another. A time when their friendship was tentative yet growing. He remembers how he and Kurt would sit and listen while Caleb and Constantin went over their expectations for their new adventure, the things they wanted to do as soon as they reached land. Often Kurt would laugh and joke with the two cousins, sharing with Vasco how the two of them had been preparing for the journey for weeks.
Vasco remembers how even then he had begun to see that the two of them were different, that they were unlike any of the other nobles he'd had the unfortunate experience to work with in the past. Their goals seemed admirable - Constantin wanting to govern over New Sérène in a fair and kind way, while Caleb wanted nothing more but to find a cure for the Malichor. He recalls how he came to learn that the two of them had grown tired of constantly being chewed up and spat back out by the political scrambling of the old lands, how they wanted to put such experiences behind them and instead push forward in creating a better world of their own.
The memory feels somewhat tainted now. That better world they wanted had come true - but the price had been high. Too high.
What good was a dream of peace when such peace only benefitted the few?
“Know this Caleb,” Vasco says, trying to temper the emotion he can feel building up within himself at the growing frustration his tainted memories bring with them. “I never would have posed you with such a choice. What we were all building together wasn’t perfect, but it was good. It was working. People were learning to be better, were beginning to accept and work alongside one another more rather than to just take without thought. With time the alliances we worked on creating would have only grown stronger. But it’s because of you that all of that is gone and so many are still left to suffer. All because you decided you couldn’t let your cousin go.”
He stands, his frustration peaking with all the thoughts rushing to his mind. Vasco shakes his head, sighs.
“I knew coming back to this island was a mistake. I should have just gone on believing you were dead. That pain hurt a lot less.”
Vasco walks away, refusing to look back.
He doesn't see how Caleb remains sitting, nor comes to know how he stays there for what feels like an age.
He misses the shattered expression that rises upon Caleb's face.

Caleb De Sardet Headcanons
Tumblr media
Caleb had been good friends with Constantin’s older brother and, like Constantin himself, admired him greatly. After his death both Caleb and Caleb’s mother were the only people who Constantin found comfort in when it came to his grief, Caleb as a constant that Constantin clung and needed reassurance would never leave him and his aunt being the one to support both of the boys through the difficultly of what the family were going through. Because of this Caleb understands all too well how much Constantin hurts to constantly be living in his brothers shadow, since he knows Constantin feels he can never live up to the person he admired and loved so dearly let alone be a son his own father could ever be proud of.
Out of the two of them Caleb was always seen as the more sensible cousin. He was charming, polite, and knew how to navigate through social and political topics in a way to please most while Constantin was more flippant and rebellious. Because of his skills and mannerisms Caleb’s uncle always ended up handing him more responsibilities. Constantin was always a little upset about it - not towards Caleb in any way, but towards his own fathers obvious favouritism and perceived disappointment for his own son. He knew his father never really saw him as anything much more than a nuisance, but it didn’t lessen the hurt he felt. Especially since had his brother lived, both Constantin and Caleb were fully aware those responsibilities would have fallen onto his shoulders instead.
Before his mother became ill with the malichor, Caleb’s uncle had been in the process of trying to marry his nephew off. Caleb had met with three potential suitors - the last of which being someone who he certainly did not want to settle with - before it was all put on hold to focus on the illness. With his mothers sickness Caleb’s uncle agreed to send Caleb along with his son to the new island, hoping that he would be able to find a cure. Although the circumstances weren’t ideal for it happening, Constantin was altogether relieved that his cousin would be coming with him and became much more excited about the prospect of Caleb joining him.
Despite knowing he would one day be involved in an arranged marriage, Caleb himself was never very interested in romance before leaving home. Constantin had tried to set him up with a few people, but he stopped once he realised Caleb didn’t really want to be in one just for the sake of it. Constantin ended up being his first real kiss, and much later Vasco ends up becoming his first love.
Caleb was much more interested in his studies and playing the piano. He’s actually really good too, and would often play at social dinners, or just for his mother or Constantin on lazy afternoons shared between them. In another life, he could have gone far as a pianist (cue the pianist AU for Caleb here).
Caleb was a quiet child, and most of that was to do with the attention his mark brought him from other children / adults as he was growing up. Constantin was his only friend really, and so when Constantin wasn’t around or was busy, Caleb kept himself busy by reading, catching up on his studies or learning music.
Caleb actually has a good sense of humour. He comes out of his shell a lot as he gets older, but even when around his mother of Constantin as a child he would often be smiling. Constantin would often drag him into all sorts of trouble, but Caleb loved every moment of it - even if they did end up getting caught and told off afterwards.
He’s a little shy when he realises he has feelings for Vasco and that those feelings are returned, and I headcanon that Vasco often leaves lines from poems he likes and which remind him of Caleb. They always manage to make Caleb smile, and it’s something that really helps to cement in his mind that there is a romance between them.
On one of their early anniversaries, Caleb leaves Vasco half a poem that he remembers and which reminds him of Vasco in return.  When Vasco finds him to ask him about it, Caleb eventually recites the second half of the poem to him.
Caleb is kind. He cares far too much, and wants to help whenever he can for a good cause. It’s both one of his greatest strengths and a very real weakness of his.

OC Interview Meme
Tagged by the very lovely @ghostlygal, thank you so much! (:
I’m going to be doing two of these, since I couldn’t pick between the two OC’s I wanted to write for. Today will be the first one, and the second will be posted sometime over the next few days.
I’ll also tag @renegade-skywalker, @dreamerinsilico, @diceyfall, @sexy-salmon, @rannadylin, @flyppa, @ohvatnirs. No pressure though if you’d rather not (:
I’m answering with Keanu Reeves, the one birdman - Caleb De Sardet!
Tumblr media
Name ➔ “Caleb De Sardet. If you weren't already aware, I'm also the Legate of the Merchant Congregation."
Are you single ➔ He shakes his head, a small smile rising upon his lips as he lets out a small breath of laughter. "I very much am not, no."
Are you happy ➔ “Yes, I believe I am."
Are you angry ➔ “Not right this moment. Is there any reason that I should be?"
Are your parents still married ➔ “No. My father died when I was very young, and as for my mother ..." Caleb drifts off, face scrunching slightly in pain. " ... well. I rather suppose she's no longer with us, either."
NINE FACTS
Birthplace ➔ Caleb frowns in thought. "I'm ... not honestly sure. I used to believe I was born within the Continent, but after learning the truth about my heritage I know that to be false. I believe I was born at sea, but whether or not that is the honest truth either is anyone's guess."
Hair colour ➔ “Brown."
eye colour ➔ “Also brown."
Birthday ➔ “24th of June."
Mood ➔ “At this very moment? I suppose I'm calm."
Gender ➔ “I'm a man."
Summer or winter ➔ “I'm much rather more fond of spring and autumn, truthfully. Both summer and winter are either too hot or too cold for me, whereas I find spring and summer more pleasant."
Morning or afternoon ➔ "Afternoons, if only for the fact that those are the times of day where I manage to find some sort of respite between my duties."
EIGHT THINGS ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE
Are you in love ➔ Caleb smiles. "Yes."
Do you believe in love at first sight ➔ “Not at all. If you take my relationship with Vasco as any sort of example, you'll know why." He pauses, letting out a small laugh. "I still believe I offended him by calling his ship a boat."
Who ended your last relationship ➔ "Ah," Caleb sits back in his chair, appearing somewhat uncomfortable for a second. "The truth is that before Vasco, there was no other relationship. Oh my Cousin tried to set me up with one or two people when we were younger, but when he realised I wasn't particularly interested he stopped right away."
Have you ever broken someone’s heart ➔ Caleb thinks for a moment, then shakes his head. "Not that I'm aware of, no. I wasn't all that popular growing up."
Are you afraid of commitments ➔ “Oh heavens, not at all! I've always known that one day I'd have to marry - whether or not it was a political move or a decision built upon love was never really a question.”
Have you hugged someone within the last week? ➔ “Yes."
Have you ever had a secret admirer ➔ “Again, not as far as I know."
Have you ever broken your own heart? ➔ "I - suppose I have. Childish thoughts though, truly. Nothing could have come from them."
SIX CHOICES
Love or lust ➔ “Love." Lemonade or iced tea ➔ "Lemonade, although I must admit I rarely drink it." Cats or dogs ➔ Caleb's face lights up. "Constantin and I always wished for a dog growing up. Neither of our parents would allow us to have one, but it never lessened the desire. Perhaps once things have settled in New Sérène I can convince him to finally get one." A few best friends or many regular friends ➔ He sighs. "As Legate I have many allies. But only a few close friends whom I would trust with me life. I prefer it that way."
Wild night out or romantic night in ➔ “A romantic night in. I very rarely get the chance to spend some time by myself these days, and I've never been much for drink and indulgence. That was more Constantin's scene, not mine."
Day or night ➔ “Daytime."
FIVE HAVE YOU EVERS
Been caught sneaking out ➔ “Once or twice." Caleb laughs, shaking his head at a sudden memory. "The worst was the time Constantin and I snuck out to avoid one of our classes. His stepmother found us after I'd climbed out my bedroom window - having fallen onto her prized roses. She wasn't at all happy. My cousin tried to take most of the blame, but I wouldn't let him. After all, I was the one sitting on a rather prickly flowerbed."
Fallen down/up the stairs ➔ “A few times. Especially running around the halls as a child." Wanted something/someone so badly it hurt? ➔ His face turns pained. "Oh. Yes." Wanted to disappear ➔ “All the time when I was younger. I don't know where I'd be if it weren't for Constantin and my mother."
FOUR PREFERENCES
Smile or eyes ➔ “A lot can be said about how someone smiles." Shorter or taller ➔ “Taller than me. Not that it's particularly unusual." Intelligence or attraction ➔ “Intelligence can be misplaced. There are different kinds of intellect, and I am not the person to be deciding what makes or does not make an intelligent person. So I suppose my answer is attraction, since that is something that comes much more naturally." Hook-up or relationship ➔ “A relationship is a much more preferable method. I find the former rather empty in their connection."
FAMILY
Do you and your family get along ➔ "That depends entirely. To me family was mainly Constantin and my mother, and they are two of the most important people in my life. But if you are referring to my Uncle and Step-Aunt ..." Caleb takes a moment to think. "... I got along well enough with them, I suppose. I would never say we were close, and I always hated how they treated Constantin. I do not trust them, but I was never as ... open in my disagreements as my cousin often was." Would you say you have a “messed up life” ➔ Caleb's eyes widen at that. "My life is by no means normal. But ... I'm happy, so I can't complain too much. I just wish so much of my past wasn't hidden within layers of secrets and lies." Have you ever ran away from home ➔ “No, never." Have you ever gotten kicked out ➔ “Not at all."
FRIENDS
Do you secretly hate one of your friends ➔ Caleb frowns. "No. If I ever did, then they surely wouldn't be my friend any longer." Do you consider all of your friends good friends ➔ “Of course." Who is your best friend ➔ "Probably Kurt. We've known each other for years, and I can always rely on him."
Who knows everything about you ➔ "Constantin, of course. It's his business to know everything and anything about me, and I think he'd be offended if I ever tried to hide anything from him. And my partner, Vasco. There are no secrets between the two of us."

Stay | Greedfall
"Things are finally starting to calm down out there."
It's the first evening since their return after the attempted coup of the island, and New Sérène tries to find some sense of normalcy after the events. Caleb looks out from the large windows of his cousins room down at the streets below, lamps illuminating their paths against the nights shadows. It's a stark contrast to the mayhem which littered it in the previous days before - a quiet falling now where passionate anger had once taken form. The streets have since been cleaned from the bodies of those whom had fallen, only the odd spots of blood standing out now from where they still stained the ground.
They were lucky, really. Had it not been for Kurt's warning and fast actions Caleb knows both Constantin and himself would likely be dead by now, struck down by an attack they never foresaw coming. Not to mention how the other governors across the island would have been taken down too had they not received any prior warnings to what was being planned to befall them.
Caleb considers how the discovery of the ghost regiment had likely been the first sign of bad tides to come.
"Come. Step away from the window, dear cousin."
The sound of Constantin's weakened voice pulls at Caleb's attention. He turns, noticing how his cousin reaches out his hand towards him from where he rests in the bed. Caleb doesn't hesitate to break the distance between them, as good as collapsing his body into the chair beside where Constantin lays as he grasps his frail hand.
From one who was always so bright and full with life, seeing his cousin in such a state is heart shattering. It still hasn't truly sunk in for him that Constantin is dying.
"You look so serious," Constantin says, attempting to smile at him. Caleb knows how fake it is, can easily see the ever looming fear that lurks behind it. He reaches his free hand up to brush Constantin's hair away from his forehead, feeling just how unusually warm he is.
"I meant what I said the other day," Caleb begins, trying his best not to let his voice tremble with the weight of his own fear. "I will find you a cure. I promise. You will not succumb to this illness."
"Caleb," Constantin replies - and it is so rare for him to call him by his name, and not refer to him with the familiarity of the fond title of dear cousin - the hand which is clasped in Caleb's own squeezing slightly. "Don't promise things you hold no power over. It'll only make it worse when ..."
His words drift off, but what's unsaid remains floating in the air between them. Because Constantin knows. Oh, he knows him so well. Enough to understand that if he dies before a cure can be found that Caleb will only blame himself, the same way Caleb still blames himself for leaving his dying mothers side.
"It's alright," Caleb soothes, and he attempts to lighten the morose veil hanging over them by forcing his own small smile. "You don’t have to worry, least of all about me. And you know that I would never lie to you."
He leans forward, pressing a light kiss upon Constantin's brow. His lips linger against the heated skin, their touch featherlight as they brush like velvet with the movement of his words.
"For now though, rest. You’ve been through a lot these past few days, and you need to regain what strength you have."
Caleb moves to sit back once more, noticing the way Constantin watches him move.
"Will you stay by my side tonight?" Constantin asks, childlike in the innocence of the whisper. “Please?”
"Of course I will," Caleb replies. "I'm not going anywhere."

All through my playthrough with Caleb I couldn’t help but to imagine him in clothes like Orlando Bloom’s blue one in The Three Muskeeters:
Tumblr media
For some reason I thought he had a big blue feather hat in the movie too, but it’s been so long since I’ve seen it that I’m pretty sure I’ve just confused the feather hat he wears towards the first pirates movie.
But then I always imagined both Caleb and Constantin having large hats with obnoxiously large feathers, lol (I know Constantin’s did have a feather but, bigger! More over the top!) At least at the beginning of the journey as they’re leaving the continent.

10 Questions for De Sardet
Originally put together by @imperatoralicia, and the questions can be found here!
Tumblr media
1. What is your Legate’s first name?
Caleb De Sardet. Caleb can mean 'devotion to God'.
2. What are their pronouns?
He/Him/His
3. What is their favoured method of fighting?
Primarily he's a magic user, but he's also trained in firearms too. Occasionally he'll use his pistol.
4. Where is their favourite place to be?
Before leaving for Tir Fradi the library in his family home. He loves reading and learning, and there was a piano in the room that he often played.
When at Tir Fradi ... probably outside, exploring the world. Caleb loves how beautiful the island is, and how alive it is outside of the cities. If he could he'd spend his time just exploring on his own, but that's not the safest thing for him to do without someone else by his side.
5. How did they feel about leaving home?
Torn, to be honest.
He was excited for the new beginning, the fresh start and all the potential new discoveries awaiting them, but he didn't want to leave his mother behind. Especially knowing that he would likely never see her again given her ill health. Looking for a cure helped as it set his mind on something with the aims of saving others from a similar fate, but what likely became of her remained a constant thought at the back of his mind.
6. What are they passionate about?
Caleb loves reading and learning new things. He tended to keep to himself as a child and would often loose himself in the books that took up space in the library. He's very charismatic, and for the most part enjoys attempting to solve difficult situations and find the best solutions possible. The more time he spends on Tir Fradi the more passionately he grows to respect the natives, and he's very interested in learning and understanding more about them and their cultures in a respective manner. That respect and willingness to learn more about their ways only grew once Caleb discovered his real heritage.
7. Who are they friends with and why?
Kurt, Vasco and Siora are whom he's closest to out of his companions. There's always been a friendship between Kurt and himself, and Caleb believes he's one of the very few people from the Continent who generally cared about him and Constantin whilst they were growing up. Vasco was a little intimidating at first (especially with the whole 'it's a ship. Not a boat' exchange) but they soon started bonding whilst at sea, quickly realising they actually had a lot in common and that they enjoyed one anothers’ company. As for Siora, she was the first sign that showed there were people who looked like him on the island, and that intrigued him instantly. Once they started to get to know one another he found her kind and insightful, and Siora quickly became a valued friend to him.
8. Who are they more than friends with and why?
Vasco, for a long while. There was shared attraction between the two of them once they started getting to know one another, and it wasn't long until a pretty serious relationship started to develop between them. They both fell in love, but as things started to fall apart all around them it put strain on their relationship, especially since Caleb became pretty dead set focused on Constantin's health and mental state. Later Constantin (like ... endgame / postgame timeframe).
9. Which faction are they most likely to be seen hanging out with?
Definitely a mix between the Natives and the Nauts. Both allow him the opportunity to feel normal away from the ongoing bickering and politics he's often surrounded by, and he really respects them. I think he gets along well enough with Cabral as well, especially after helping her with some of the more delicate matters she entrusts him to look into.
10. How did your Legate’s story end?
My main canon for him is that Caleb decides even though he knows it's the right thing to do and that he's likely the only person able to do it, when faced with the harsh reality right before him he just can't kill Constantin. Instead he ends up joining him in Godhood. It's sort of a bittersweet moment for him because he knows he's failed so many people, but he realises within it that there really isn't anything he wouldn't do for Constantin - even if it meant destroying the natural order of things and letting the world around them crumble to dust.
I have ... thoughts on that too. It's about agency and dependancy, and Caleb's failure is very much him realising he doesn't want to imagine nor live a life without his cousin, and that he doesn't even know what life would be without him.
... I do however also like the idea of Caleb eventually becoming Governor after Constantin's death and marrying Vasco (who is sure to return to him every so often once he returns to Captain his ship). But I feel like that's sort of AU for Caleb, since I kind of imagine him and Constantin having this unbreakable bond which ends up doing more harm than good in the end. If Caleb killed Constantin, I reckon he'd be a huge mess - and I'm not sure if him taking over as Governor would a) be beneficial for him as it feels like he'd be working on something the Constantin he grew up with would have wanted to see prosper into a creation built between the two of them or b) not be such a smart idea given what his headspace would be like through his grief.
Basically, TL;DR ((piles more angst and complication of emotions onto Caleb when it comes to Constantin))

De Sardet Questionnaire
Tumblr media
Original questionnaire can be found here, put together by @visceralcoma!
This got a little long (as is usual with me) but here’s the questionnaire for my De Sardet, Caleb!
1. What is De Sardet’s given name? Caleb De Sardet. 2. What is the name Arelwin would have given De Sardet (assuming Petrus told them and its different than their given name)? Arelwin would have named him Tawa, which means sun. 3. What was their relationship with Constantin like when they were teens? Caleb and Constantin always had a near inseparable connection to one another. Where one was you'd usually find the other, and that didn't change as they grew older. Caleb was the one to always make sure Constantin wasn't doing anything too stupid or questionable, and Constantin was the one who helped to gently pull Caleb out of the shy shell he cocooned himself in throughout his childhood, making sure Caleb found a comfort with himself. Together the both of them built a unique level of trust and comfort, as well as a safe space where they could just be themselves without any of the judgements and expectations of the outside world. 4. What is a special heartwarming memory of your De Sardet and Constantin? As children, both Caleb and Constantin were obsessed with adventure. They'd play make believe games where they were explorers or heroes, and such games usually involved the two of them running around the house brandishing wooden swords. On one day in particular, the two of them were playing in the gardens. As was usual a young Constantin was trying to play a noble hero, brandishing his sword and speaking some over the top soliloquy. Something that was said started Caleb laughing, and Constantin's shocked reactions to his humour only set Caleb off further. Constantin didn't really mind however (even if he did act offended - his growing grin and eventual own laughter was a big give away to his lack of true annoyance), he was just happy to hear his cousin laughing so freely.
5. Did your De Sardet and Constantin ever have a fight? If so, about what?Nothing really serious that would have caused any strain or lasting effect on their relationship, but there were of course some disagreements. Caleb would point out when Constantin was being particularly reckless to the point he would be putting himself in danger - but mostly Caleb's annoyances would be born out of concern over Constantin's well being. Constantin might occasionally push Caleb too much when it came to moments where Caleb wanted to be left alone, and that could often spark some bickering between them. They always apologised and made up not much later though. They didn't much like being angry or upset with the other for too long. 6. What was the relationship like with Princess Livie (their adoptive mother)? Caleb and her were very close. She always had a caring hand to offer him, and Livie was very much a source of comfort for Caleb. Livie would always tell Caleb how proud she was of him, and as he grew older how much she admired the man he grew up to become. Some of Caleb's kindness and compassion comes from that which Livie showed towards him growing up, and Caleb more or less adored her. 7. Did De Sardet ever have a pet growing up? What happened to it? Nope, Caleb never had any pets. 8. What was De Sardet’s relationship with their uncle (Constantin’s father)?Uncomfortable. There was always something about his uncle that unnerved Caleb, but as a child he could never really put his finger on what the underlying problem he had of him was. He assumed it was simply because he didn't understand nor like how he treated Constantin, but that didn't stop the squirming discomfort Caleb would feel when it came to his uncle's behaviour towards himself. Caleb always felt he was under some kind of scrutiny or trail. It's not until Caleb learns the truth later that he realised that the reason he never felt comfortable in the presence of his uncle was because his uncle never saw either Constantin or he as people, but rather as pawns in his own political game. Caleb was very much seen as an asset, and Constantin was just 'the child he resented had lived while his oldest son had died'. 9. Did De Sardet ever get into trouble with their mother and uncle? Were they a frequent troublemaker? There were ... instances where Caleb would end up being told off by his uncle. Those occasions usually involved Constantin, and his uncle would always manage to say something like 'I suspected it of you, son, but not of my dear nephew'. It was always words used to wound Constantin, and there were many times where afterwards Caleb would end up hugging him as his cousin cried, wanting to know why his father detested him so much. Caleb's mother on the other hand was more lenient with the boys. She wasn't blind to how her brother treated his son, and could see no harm in Constantin and Caleb playing and acting like the children their age should be. Of course there were times where she would remind one or both of them that they were of noble standing and had to be a little more respectable, but otherwise she left them to it. 10. Did De Sardet have many other friends? He didn't have any other friends. Only Constantin. 11. How did they handle growing up with their mark? Did people mention it? Talk about? Treat them differently? How did De Sardet respond to them? Badly. The mark was always something that unsettled people. Children would whisper, laugh or outright avoid him, and even adults would occasionally comment on how strange and unusual it was. It frustrated and upset Caleb, so much so that both his mother and Constantin would find him crying over it. Constantin would often defend him from the other children, feeling a protective streak over his cousin. Livie would rub his back as he cried into his pillow or his sheets, telling him things like how beautiful a boy he was both inside and out in an attempt to make him feel better. When he got older, Caleb grew his facial hair out in an attempt to try and cover most of the mark up. It ... helped stop some of the staring, enough that Caleb learnt not to care about what other people thought. 12. What are De Sardet’s favourite: food, colour, music (genre/instrument), weather, season, and animal? Food: Crab. Wine. Colour: Blue & Red Music: Piano. Weather: Sunny. Season: Autumn. Caleb likes the different colours of the leaves that fall. Animal: Horses. 13. What was their first thought of Vasco, Siora, Aphra, and Petrus when they met them? Vasco: I don't think we're going to get along, he seemed quite upset that I called his ship a boat. Siora: I have only been in this city for five minutes, but I will already try my best to help you in whatever way I can. Aphra: ... Still not convinced she wasn't going to shoot me if her gun hadn't fallen in the water. Petrus: Not quite sure what to make of you, but for now I'll leave my suspicions be. After all, diplomacy amongst our allies is imperative right now. 14. If they had one, who was De Sardet’s first kiss and/or love? You know, I don't think Caleb's had any real love or romance before heading to the island. I always imagine that Constantin is the one that's had many lovers, and then comes back and ends up telling Caleb about the newest person he's 'in love with' (it never lasts. A few days later and Constantin's found something else to fascinate him). Caleb listens to Constantin because he doesn't have much choice likes to see Constantin happy, even if he there a lot of moments that end up like: Constantin: Cousin! I'm in love with them! Caleb: ((shrugs)) okay fine you're in love with them - you've been with them a day. Do you even really know them?? Then one day after a 'breakup' (that's not really a breakup but rather Constantin getting bored of his most recent lover), Constantin's complaining to Caleb about them, and it comes up that they weren't even a good kisser. And Constantin is like 'you know when you find someone and you kiss them and it's like ... magic?', and Caleb's like 'I don't, actually'. At first Constantin is sad for his cousin because he thinks Caleb means he's never had a lover or someone whose kissed him that way, but then he realises that no, Caleb means he's never been kissed full stop. Constantin is shocked, but then considers how Caleb never talks about his love interests and realises it's because he hasn't had any, and suddenly Constantin is determined because 'this won't do. You can't never experience a first kiss, cousin." Constantin ends up being his first kiss, and Caleb still doesn't really understand how. ... Caleb also never acknowledges how he felt in that moment and shoves his feelings away into a box and locks it away to the back of his mind because that is Constantin and he certainly shouldn't be having confusing thoughts over him. Caleb's first love is Vasco. He ends up falling pretty deep into that love.   15. Did De Sardet have any childhood/teen crushes on anyone? Describe how they realized it and how they behaved. Hmmmm not really? I reckon there were some visitors that Caleb ended up thinking 'oh wow' about, but not in any real attraction or 'oh no I like them' way. He wasn't really interested when he was younger, and tended to avoid a lot of people until his mid teens. 16. What subjects were their favourite to learn while being taught by Sir De Courcillion? History and magical studies. 17. What was their relationship with Kurt initially like when he became their bodyguard and/or when he became their Master of Arms? At first Kurt intimidated him, but that quickly dissipated once he got to know him. Caleb really respected Kurt's talents and training - even if he did push him to the limits a lot of the time. He could tell Kurt was passionate about his swordsmanship, and although he couldn't really see why a bodyguard had been assigned to him, Caleb eventually learnt to appreciate it. The two of them got along well and developed a friendship. I imagine Kurt was one of the first to discover Caleb's interest in pistols, and ended up gifting him his very first one. It was very much a 'you're better with it than you are with a sword, Greenblood'. Caleb later adapted his fighting ability to include it alongside his magic ring. 18. What was Kurt’s initial assessment of De Sardet when he began teaching them to fight? That Caleb was absolutely useless with a real sword. It was very much that 'hands on hips and long suffering sigh as he mutters 'we have a long way ahead of us'' type of feeling for Kurt, knowing he had a lot of work cut out for him in order for Caleb to be able to defend himself in a way that was actually half decent. 19. What did De Sardet specialize into first and why? Magic ring, mostly because it was a big interest of his. There was ... a lot of trail and error. Courcillion still has a burn mark on his desk from a rather significant failure of a magic lesson. 20. What did they feel when they learned they were adopted and the circumstances behind it? Oh, Caleb was absolutely crushed and so lost. He didn't really know where he belonged for a while knowing that the family he thought was his by blood never was. He felt too much ingrained with the Congregation to ever find acceptance with the Natives anymore, and he didn't feel as if he would ever really fit in as a Naut - even if Vasco assured him he would be accepted with open arms. Yet at the same time he began to understand why he felt like an outcast growing up - because he was never truly meant to be a part of the Congregation. Vasco, Kurt and Siora really helped him get through things, and Constantin's reassurances that nothing changed between them even if they weren't cousins by blood helped. But it wasn't until he met his true aunt that Caleb found a peace in himself. While it was nice knowing that he still had a familial connection alive and well, it was one of the first pieces in a wheel that allowed him to realise that it didn't matter where he came from or where his origins stemmed from, at the end of the day he would set his own path to become the person he wanted to be. Him and Vasco had a long talk the night after returning to New Sérène over their familiar feelings.

I mentioned earlier after seeing this post @a-driftamongopenstars made that I’d try and gather some thoughts about the good ending in terms of Caleb, and that’s exactly what this post is.
I’ve brought it up before, but in the good ending scenario Caleb eventually becomes Governor in place of his cousin, and he’s mostly driven by the desire to want to carry on Constantin’s memory. Or at least, the memory of Constantin before the malicor took him.
It takes Caleb a long time to take the role - which is offered to him, but he refuses it the first two times. His grief is messy and all consuming, especially since he carries a lot of guilt over being the one who ended Constantin’s life in the end. It’s not until he starts to pull himself out of that hole that he rises to the task, not wanting to see what his cousin worked towards going to waste. Him taking the role of Governor is seen mostly as a positive by others, although the Bridge Alliance isn’t too happy about it.
Constantin’s father tries to reach out after his sons death (although to him he’s only told he fell to illness, not what happened after Constantin’s fall into his madness), but it’s a very obvious attempt at political manoeuvring on his part. Caleb isn’t having any of it, and challenges him to pay his respects by visiting the island personally, thinking he wouldn’t be willing to make the journey. Surprisingly Constantin’s father does, and although he turns up months after Constantin’s funeral it’s incredibly unexpected of him. During his visit Caleb and him talk, Constantin’s father saying he didn’t hate his son but only wanted him to reach his potential while Caleb counters him by pointing out he’d been having Constantin live in his older brothers shadow his whole life, and how Constantin was never going to be able to live up to the expectations of someone who died before him simply because the two of them were entirely different people. Caleb sort of does that ‘look around you. New Sérène wouldn’t be half of what it is if it weren’t for your sons work’ and Constantin’s father grudgingly accepts that the work they’ve done on the island is more than what he expected. Although him and Caleb aren’t on the best of terms as nephew and uncle when Constantin’s father leaves there is an ... understanding that he could have done better in how he treated his son growing up.
Caleb never really gets over loosing Constantin either. It eventually gets easier, the pain of missing him is less an agonising emptiness and more a faint ache that’s tender to touch. He never returns to being the same man he was before, and there’s always a wave of melancholy to him. He marries Vasco - and while things are better when he’s there by his side Vasco is also away himself for long periods of time, and those are usually the hardest for Caleb (and the times when he rarely leaves his work). Even then, Kurt is there to make sure he doesn’t push himself too far - understanding just how important his work is to him.
The natives are relieved with Constantin’s death what with the threat he posed at the end - but those who knew of Caleb’s bond with him feel sympathy towards Caleb’s pain. For the most part however they feel they work better alongside Caleb: if only because Caleb had been the one to build the bonds between them when he was legate, and who actually took the time of day to listen and help them, as well as respect their way of life.
