On Christian Zucconi:
"From sculpture to photography and video art, every aspect of Italian artist Christian Zucconi’s work is devoted to the study of human flesh and its many evolutions. His sculpture is particularly strong in its portrayal of decay and deconstruction, as much of his recent work, such as his latest Corpo and Leviathan, displays the human figure in a state of tangible decomposition and subtle regeneration expressed through stitched-up parts, rugged textures and missing body parts.
This deconstructed look is the result of Zucconi’s original technique, which he dubbed Kenoclastic. This method, developed by the artist in 2007, involves the destruction of an already completed sculpture. The remains are later put back together in a loose way, precisely to resemble its broken state. This process, together with his materials of choice (Persian travertine, iron, wax, bone and wood), further adds to this idea that the body undergoes copious amounts to deteriorating experiences (both physical and mental) yet has the ability to heal many times over.
On the other hand, his bodies might be considered homages to the Mount Vesuvius’ victims in Italy’s Pompeii in 79 AD. Similar to the calcified bodies affected by the natural disaster, Zucconi’s realistic sculptures depict imperfect yet somewhat intact forms that have survived physical erosion." - by Victoria Casal-Data, 2014.

GROUPLOVE Releasing New Album + Tour Dates
Indie rock luminaries GROUPLOVE have exciting news for fans: their recent album, ‘I Want It All Right Now,’ will be released in a deluxe edition on May 10, enriched with six additional tracks. Among these, a standout is today’s release of a live version of the titular track “All,” recorded at Madison Square Garden. This rendition becomes particularly special with Jake Clemons of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band joining on the saxophone, transforming the song into an epic musical experience that transcends its original boundaries.
In an interview with FLOOD Magazine last year, GROUPLOVE’s Christian Zucconi reflected on the significance of the track “All,” sharing, “From the start, we felt it was destined to open the album and give it its name. It represents our introspective journey during the album’s creation, posing the existential question, ‘Why do we always crave more than what we possess?’” Checkout “I Want It All Right Now” below:
Hannah Hooper, known for her versatile artistic talent, has once again contributed her skills to the visual side of GROUPLOVE’s music, crafting the artwork for the album. Over the years, Hooper’s distinctive art has become as emblematic of the band as their music, embodying the band’s exploration and resolution of life’s complexities through every form of art they engage with.
Over the last month, GROUPLOVE has been joined by Bully for the North American Rock And Roll You Won’t Save Me Tour. Fans who missed the tour or simply want more need not despair as the band has upcoming festival performances this summer at Wildflower! Festival, Bonnaroo and Oceans Calling. And by popular demand, GROUPLOVE has been added to 9 new dates this fall supporting P!nk. See all upcoming tour dates here and below.

Coast Movie Review
Coast is reminiscent of the cult classic the teen girl “coming of age” movie, Foxes, from the late 1970s. Foxes takes place in Hollywood, CA., stars Academy Award winner Jodi Foster, and features Cherie Currie from the band The Runaways. Coast is set in rural Santa Maria, CA., features an Oscar winner (Melissa Leo), and has the rock ‘n roll connection (Mia Frampton, daughter of Peter, and Kane Ritchotte, son of a lesser-known guitar player, Rocket Ritchcotte, star). In both films, there are strong female bonds, drunken parents, unhealthy love relationships, drugs, and dreams of bigger and better things in life.
Sixteen-year-old music-freak Abby (Fatima Ptacek) feels trapped in her agricultural town where the young and starry-eyed clash with staid generations of farming tradition and blue-collar jobs. Abby’s mom, Debora (Cristela Alonzo), is young but she’s beaten down from divorce and drinking—she only finds solace in her work as a nurse and becomes close with a terminal patient (Melissa Leo), who imparts her wisdom as a parting gift. When Abby falls for Dave, the lead singer of a touring rock band called Pinata Jones, she is torn between leaving her family and friends behind or going out into an exciting but possibly overwhelming world.
Since music is a major part of Abby’s rebel life, the casting of the members of the fictional band Pinata Jones was crucial. They were too lightweight for my taste, but overall they’re believable and that’s because the cast is made up of bona fide musicians. Coast’s live performances and original score feature tunes composed by Alex Walker and Christian Zucconi of Aloke, and Hannah Hooper of Grouplove. Original songs are performed by Pinata Jones, which is made up of members of The Ceremonies and led by the film’s male lead Kane Ritchotte, also a real-life musician (Portugal. The Man, Haim).
Coast has a dreamy, free-flowing feel thanks to cinema verité style cinematography and loose editing. Directed by Jessica Hester and Derek Schweickart from a screenplay by Cindy Kitagawa, Coast is a film that will appeal to teenage girls—and their mothers. Watching together as a family may even spark discussion about growing up, friendship, rites of passage, and planning the future.
