OK yeah I have no idea where this came from? 🤨😬 What was I thinking?! A bulbous flying jar that becomes molten at the top, about to land into a sea of ‘umami’ with a grinning face floating in the background????👍 This is the last of the Vegemite themed experiments, now it’s onto a landscape 🥳 “YUM #3” Aerosol and hand-cut vinyl on aluminium composite 30.5 x 20 cm #melboureart #melbourneartist #aerosolart #australianart #landscapepainting #mixedmedia #mixedmediaart #molotow #molotowpaint #landscape #communication #graphic #popart #communicationlandscape #artistsofmelbourne #australianartists #blenderstudio #blenderstudios #2023 #vegemite #Yum (at Blender Studios) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co_12LLrrTX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Another Vegemite themed experiment combining multiple layered words, vignettes; while also playing with the idea that the structure of the words form the shape of the jar 🤔 “YUM #2” Aerosol and hand-cut vinyl on aluminium composite 30.5 x 20 cm #melboureart #melbourneartist #aerosolart #australianart #landscapepainting #mixedmedia #mixedmediaart #molotow #molotowpaint #landscape #communication #graphic #popart #communicationlandscape #artistsofmelbourne #australianartists #blenderstudio #blenderstudios #2023 #vegemite #Yum (at Blender Studios) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co_1YOaLWdB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

TWEET Aerosol, vinyl and pencil on an old piece of aluminium composite signage 20.32 x 25.4cm This piece is actually painted onto an old piece of signage; it used to be the letter ‘P’. I cut off the stem of the letter and stuck it onto the back to form an arch. It’s an image of a man walking the Yarra trail with the sights and sounds surrounding him. Specifically, the sounds made by a Noisy Miner and a Pied Currawong, which are quite common around the river. I particularly like the sound of the Currawong; it’s beautiful. I’ve also included graphics for the nearby river and the soft breeze that was rustling the trees. The large TWEET is to remind us to look away from our phones and see, hear, smell and sense our beautiful surrounds. The word tweet is not just a social media post, its’ also a beautiful bird call; plus the ever present human communication of footpath lines and signage. - #melboureart #melbourneartist #aerosolart #australianart #landscapepainting #mixedmedia #mixedmediaart #molotow #molotowpaint #landscape #communication #graphic #popart #communicationlandscape #artistsofmelbourne #australianartists #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #visualart (at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVkTQ4fBu0l/?utm_medium=tumblr

(Part 2) What should have been a short conversation and then head off home – possibly with the girl very angry - turned into hours of tears, melodrama and bouts of silence. On several occasions the young girl laid on the footpath and when the boy tried to help her get up she made herself heavy like a ragdoll. As I say, this went on for hours and the young boy was starting to get quite distressed, so we eventually rang the police who promptly arrived – I’m sure they were quite startled when the police car drove up to them. They were then driven home. The final story ended as quickly as it started. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and our neighbour noticed a man collapsed on the footpath. He rang the ambulance and they quickly ascertained that the man had suffered an overdose. They treated him on the spot, while a small crowd gathered. The man came around suddenly and couldn’t believe all the fuss. He told them in no uncertain terms that he was fine, stood up and continued to walk down the street as if nothing had happened. Our neighbour thought that he was probably on his way to score more drugs, but we never did find out. #melboureart #melbourneartist #aerosolart #australianart #landscapepainting #mixedmedia #mixedmediaart #molotow #molotowpaint #landscape #communication #graphic #popart #communicationlandscape #artistsofmelbourne #australianartists #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #visualart (at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CR3hF5jDu7A/?utm_medium=tumblr

‘The tale of a street corner – a thief, a melodrama and an overdose’ Aerosol and hand-cut vinyl on aluminium composite 61 x 40cm There are millions, if not, tens of millions of street corners in the world; this is the story of one. Over the past 12 years most people walk past this corner on the way to wherever they’re going. Either by themselves, with a friend or maybe just walking the dog but every now and then a story plays out. It’s not very often but when it does it seems to stand out. These are just 3 stories from a street corner. The first one happened on a warm New Year’s Eve, it was about 2am and everyone was heading home after all the celebrations. One of those heading home was a young lady walking from the tram stop, with bare feet and shoes in her hand. Behind her was a guy walking several metres behind, as if he could be a disgruntled boyfriend or was just not walking fast enough to catch up with her - he too had his shoes in his hand. As the woman turned right into the street and was a few metres along, the guy stopped at the corner and peered around to watch her. It was dark with only a few streetlights to light the way; this scene instantly became very sinister. Little did they know that my husband was watching the scene play out in front of him. He watched the guy peer down the street then look behind himself to make sure the coast was clear. The guy ran down the street, then the woman screamed. My husband by this time had jumped the fence and was quickly behind them. The second story played out over several hours late one evening. Sitting on the corner were two figures, we could hear snippets of conversation and makeout that the two people were teenagers. We think they may have gone to a movie and were on their way home. This is when the young boy had tried to break up with the girl, but it didn’t go quite to plan. Corner of a street Aerosol and hand-cut vinyl on aluminium composite 61 x 40cm This piece brings me one step closer to the concepts I was trying to grasp and convey nearly 20 years ago. It highlights the myriad of communication even on a simple street corner – road signs, shop signs, a circuit box, billboard and even the fire hydrant communication are placed into sharp focus. I’m also developing a language of texture that helps to push the communication even further into view. The textured patterns are based on a multiple of senses and thoughts – like how does it feel, is it hot or cold, is there movement in the texture, or simply, what do I see. The cream-coloured wall conjured words like “smooth, rough, rock, cold, sandy and dry”. The road was “rough, dry, sharp, speckled and pain”, and the awning was “smooth and hot”. I’m actually developing a nice pile of patterns to draw inspiration from to ‘mix and match’ surface concepts. For a long time I’ve been very much inspired by Japanese woodcuts and paintings, they are so graphic in colour, pattern and composition; I am constantly referring to them. I think it really shows in this piece. #melboureart #melbourneartist #aerosolart #australianart #landscapepainting #mixedmedia #mixedmediaart #molotow #molotowpaint #landscape #communication #graphic #popart #communicationlandscape #artistsofmelbourne #australianartists https://www.instagram.com/p/CNXCUOGBNLo/?igshid=kfb0a1bc06m1

In “Jade goes for a run” I wanted to capture a moment in time down a suburban back-street; full of sounds, visual voices, textures and movement. A voice calls out to a dog “JaDe” as she rushes down the street, the dog clearly doesn’t want to stop. Street signs tell us where we are and warn drivers it’s a dead-end road. While other signs are obscured from our view; only for the eyes of the drivers going in the other direction. Graffiti in this street either screams to be noticed – filling the wall with an individual’s signature style, or the kind of graffiti that wants to let you know ‘that person was here’. I always love how people find a free spot on the wall then fill that empty space with their calling-card. This is clearly an urban environment with various textures of brick walls, pavement and gutter; there’s no greenery here. In this landscape I wanted to convey both the colour and textural interpretation of the surfaces - a coarse brick wall full of small jagged edges and a sandpaper like finish. The rough gravel dry surface of the pavement. Each surface consists of up to 4-5 layers of patterns each pattern communicates a certain aspect of the texture of that surface. A brick wall to me is made up of largish sharp random squares and rectangles, then smaller triangles and pointy lines, then even smaller circles that indicate the flecks of gravel contained in each brick. The pavement has similar large sharp random squares and rectangles, but then it has a wavey texture from the ground being smoothed down by the machinery, then spots of gravel throughout. The poles holding the signs aren’t important to me they are just vehicles for the signs, so I’ve turned them into keylines so that the signs shine through; even if it is just the back of the signs. BTW: Jade is actually the name of one of our dogs but she’s a Jack Russell terrier mix.
