for day two (and maybe 3) of "blasetober," take some art i made a while back but never shared
Tumblr media
[ID: a drawing of yuniesky torres and nadeem abu-zaid from blaseball. except that's entirely my fanon and their names in the sim are conditional yuniesky and chester abu-zaid. nadeem is a black person with their coily black hair tied up in a ponytail and they are wearing a yellow and orange shirt and thick brown gloves. they have a continous glucose monitor on their arm, peeking out from under their shirt sleeve. yuniesky is a cuban man with tan skin and curly black hair. his glasses are being pushed up by nadeem, who has their arms around him and is kissing him on the face. yuniesky is laughing and blushing, and has one arm around nadeem's shoulders and the other on the side of their head. he's laughing and blushing. /end ID]

Agency
Okay, so I wrote some Houston Spies fic on a whim. Enjoy some Conditional Yuniesky angst and Ivy wholesomeness.
The Spot, as Ivy had taken to thinking about it, was cool and dark, tucked away behind rows and rows of towering filing cabinets with cryptic labels. The cabinets muffled the strange, unnerving noises that sometimes echoed through the Agency's halls, but was not so isolated acoustically that they couldn't hear when someone was approaching. Not that many sought Ivy out at The Spot, another benefit really. It was just inconvenient enough to reach that only the most determined agents would wind through the steel maze to bother them, which usually meant they were left alone there. They had set up a couple old monitors, a fax machine, and a flickering desk lamp so as to continue their research into the Agency's protocols, to continue searching for why they'd disappeared… to figure out their place in The Plan.
It was their unofficial office, a quiet, secluded space with no distractions. A place where they could be alone if they needed it.
Ivy needed it. With the reopening of the book, they knew it was more important than ever to wrap their head around what to expect, what to prepare for, how to help the other Spies navigate the danger. There was a jittery nervousness beginning to well up inside of them, the kind that would boil over into fear and panic if the unasked questions couldn't receive an answer.
And so, finding that The Spot, haven of intellectual solitude, was presently occupied by a pillar of black stone and a quietly typing Yuniesky was, to say the least, disarming.
"Oh," Ivy intoned, shifting weight from one foot to the other. "Hello, Yunie."
Yuniesky made no outward response. Their eyes were fixed to what Ivy had to assume was endless lines of code, and, judging by the stained mug beside them, they had been here for some time now. Conditional, at least, offered a smile by way of emoji, displayed on a tablet affixed to its otherwise unmarked surface. Ivy found it odd that the monolith was often easier to read than the human, but supposed everyone was entitled to their emotional privacy.
"We missed you at the debriefing earlier." Ivy pulled out a chair and sank into it across from Yuniesky while flipping open the top file they had brought with them to study. "There was lots of talk about what to do about the Strike. We-"
"I'll read about it later." Yuniesky's reply was measured, curt. Final. It wasn't unfriendly, but clearly it was the end of that topic.
Ivy came up short, unsure of how to proceed. They looked to the monolith to find its screen blank. No help there, then.
"So, what are you working on?" Another angle. Perhaps they'd be more willing to discuss their own project.
But, no, the silence stretched on, and Ivy's discomfort began to grow. Were they bothering them? Even though The Spot had been Ivy's go-to spot to get away, others weren't technically disallowed from using it. Still, that didn’t prevent Ivy from feeling a slight pang of annoyance.
“I’ll just…” They gathered up the files and gave a warm smile. “I’ll leave you to it, then. Sorry to bother you.” Ivy waited a beat to see if Yuniesky would respond.
They did not.
“Alright then.” Ivy turned and headed through the corridors of filing cabinets. They’d simply have to settle for going over the files in their room instead.
-----
The following day was filled with another round of round-table discussions; more theories were thrown around about the appearance of the Umpires and their ominous proclamations, more ideas about what to do about it all were thrown around, more confusion percolated as they discussed the unredacted portions of the Book, and news about the first incineration. Ivy was exhausted by the end of it all, and just wanted to be somewhere else.
They wound their way back to The Spot, eager to simply lounge in the dark and digest all thoughts competing for their attention. Maybe they’d take a quick nap first, though. After all, they hadn’t been sleeping well lately and-
Yuniesky and Conditional were still in The Spot.
Ivy blinked a few times as they halted at the end of a row of filing cabinets. Conditional displayed a waving hand emoji, and Yuniesky…
There was a look in Yuniesky’s eyes, a razor-sharp determination, a deep, smoldering intensity of near-obsession, juxtaposed against the heavy bags forming under their eyes. To one side of Yunie’s laptop was a small coffee machine, which gurgled and dispensed directly into a mug. Yunie quickly swapped the mug with a thermos once it had filled, and took a cautious sip. Only then did they seem to even register that Ivy was standing there, providing only a slight nod as a way of greeting.
“Have you been here all night?” Ivy stepped to the side, confirming that Yuniesky was still wearing the same clothes. “Did you get any sleep?”
Yunie sighed and continued typing. “Couldn’t sleep.” The way their voice croaked, the way it rose barely from a mumble, belied an exhaustion that went deeper than lack of sleep.
“Yunie, you should really-”
“Don’t worry about me.” Just like that. Dismissed.
Ivy frowned, a frustration bubbling inside of them. “Fine, I won’t then.” Ivy turned away. They could find solitude in their room after all, and it seemed like Yuniesky would be terrible company anyway.
-----
The next day, when Yuniesky failed to show up for yet another debriefing, Ivy began debating if they should start looking for a new Spot. If Yuniesky liked it so much, they could have it for all they cared. It was frustrating to have a teammate seem so disinterested in the daily goings ons, even when they were allegedly working so hard on other Plan-critical projects, but Ivy was already stressed enough without adding a direct confrontation on top of it.
As they paced about in their room, brainstorming new Spot locations, a notification on their phone grabbed their attention. It was a message from Conditional: Please help.
Ivy paused in place and stared at the message. After a moment spent in confusion, Ivy replied, What’s wrong?
The response was immediate. Yunie isn’t listening to me :( I can’t get them to leave
Ivy didn’t hesitate.
They tucked a pillow and a blanket under their arm and jogged toward the archive. As they dodged between pillars of steel-encased documentation, they heard Yuniesky grumbling something about operational security and handshake protocols. Ivy slowed down to listen closer, noting the delirious way they rambled.
Cautiously, they rounded the final turn to The Spot, moving slowly to not startle Yuniesky. “Yunie?” they called out.
The person that looked back at them was a shell of themself. Yunie was disheveled and wore an expression of sleepless defeat. “Really, Condi?” They looked back at the monolith looming behind them. “You called Ivy here?”
“Yunie, this isn’t healthy. You need to-” Ivy slipped on a puddle of cold coffee, but caught themself on the table before falling all the way to the floor. They took a beat to recover and set the bedding behind Yunie’s laptop. “You need to sleep.”
Yuniesky lolled forward, rubbing their temples. “I told Conditional already, once I figure out this new encryption algorithm, I’ll sleep. It just-”
“It can wait,” Ivy interrupted, trying their best to not sound frustrated. “No mission or project is worth this.”
“Listen, kid, I don’t need you to lecture me.” Yunie leaned back, running a hand through their dark curls. “I’ve pulled way longer stints without sleep and-”
“Don’t call me kid.” Ivy winced at their own voice, too venomous, too annoyed. They adjusted in their seat and leaned forward, trying to meet Yuniesky’s eyes. “Look, you’ve missed three debriefings already. The others were asking about you. I had to tell them you were on assignment.”
“Assignment, huh?” Yuniesky chuckled. “What, from the Agency? They’re gone, Ivy. We all know it. We all know they sure as hell aren’t coming back.” They sat up and returned Ivy’s gaze, a sudden intensity building in their voice. “Why do we keep pretending, huh? When I fell to the Spies, I thought ‘hey, now there’s a team I can get behind. There’s a group that really has their stuff together.’ And now I’m here, and all I see are empty halls, empty offices. Empty promises, Ivy. That’s all the Agency’s good for now.”
The air hung heavy with the bitterness of the statement. They had all felt it, the Agency’s absence. It weighed on everyone, and there had been plenty of talk about what that even meant for them. Now, with the opening of the Book, their absence was worse than ever. While many in the team knew what to expect from the Book, they were left completely in the lurch about what to do about it. All of their theories and worries could only carry them so far. They needed resources, support, intelligence, and without the Agency, those were all in horribly short supply.
Ivy sighed, feeling the weight of all those weeks spent studying old Agency records coming crashing down upon them in an instant. “I get it.” Ivy leaned over and picked the pillow off the table, squeezing it between their hands. “I tried so hard to step in, make up for their absence, but… I don’t know. Maybe I don’t have it in me.”
They hugged the pillow and closed their eyes, just for a moment, long enough to let them grapple with that hopelessness, own it. But they didn’t let it take over, they didn’t let themself get lost in it. There were people counting on them, people who needed them.
Ivy met Yuniesky’s eyes with a smile, genuine and hopeful.
“The Black Hole took the Agency, but it didn’t take our agency. We have to focus on what’s next, and we have to do that together. So please,” Ivy held out the pillow, “we need you to be at your best. We need you with us.”
For a silent, uncertain moment, they just looked at each other. And then, quietly, Yuniesky took the pillow and nodded to Ivy before tucking it behind their head. Behind them, Conditional displayed “Thank You” on its screen.
Ivy draped the blanket over them and began to clean up The Spot as Yuniesky settled in. They decided to leave Yuniesky alone to sleep, and turned to leave.
Just as they were about to walk out of sight, Yunie called out. “Ivy!”
They stopped and looked back. “Yes?”
“Thank you and… sorry I took your spot.”
Ivy grinned and waved them off. “Don’t worry about it. You can join me here any time.”

Requesting fic recs for quiet tragedies and intimate character studies. Preferably minimal focus on romance. I quite enjoy studies of mechanics as they correlate to narrative.
(send me a vibe and i’ll give you a blaseball fic reading list!)
all right. so i spent quite a bit of time on this one, but it is in no way comprehensive. there are tons of character studies in this fandom, and heaps of tragedies. also not usually a huge focus on romance in blaseball, especially post-discipline, although it’s certainly out there.
i tried to keep the characters varied and limit it to just one per author, but with most of these, if you like the one i’ve linked i can vouch for there being many more from the same person worth checking out. let’s get going.
“Agency” by kfrunt is what I would call quiet, although less of a tragedy or game mechanics. This is a Fall Ball-era fic looking at Wyatt Mason IV (Ivy) and Conditional Yuniesky, both of whom are struggling with their new worlds in different ways. It’s a good introduction to Conditional Yuniesky, and Ivy is a good introduction to the Wyatts as a whole, if you’re into that. They’re a whole little pocket of Blaseball fic that has plenty to comb through.
“dead mans party” by impernia is a look at how players mourn their lost teammates, particularly the Seattle Garages. It’s also a good look at the kind of person Arturo Huerta is, and from there, impern has a number of fics about both the Garages and their dead that hit this same vibe.
“F. All of the Above” by QueenEevee is certainly a tragic character study, looking at Hiroto Wilcox following Ruby Tuesday. It’s noteworthy less because of subject matter — if you want Ruby Tuesday content, there’s no shortage — but more because of the formatting. The way this fic approaches the loss knocks the wind out of me. A quick read, but a memorable one.
“the first dream” by swordfall is a look at Lottie Ceilingfan’s meteoric rise to fame and subsequent Ego status. If you don’t know Lottie, it’s a great introduction to her. It’s also a great introduction to what it was like on the Hades Tigers during the Expansion Era. A little less on the tragedy side, but there’s some mechanics and some creeping horror at the awareness of what’s to come.
“for agony i’d rather know” by novelsinourheads is a fantastic example of a character study that leans into the inherent weirdness of blaseball without getting too wacky with it. I’m a known Gerund Pantheocide liker and supporter, so it’s unsurprising to me that this one sticks in my brain, but Stara has dozens more character studies — many of which have an interesting and haunting approach to loss and tragedy, and all of which are well worth looking at.
“forever in a day” by paopuleaf is another Wyatt fic, but it’s also about the Vault, but it’s also about hauntings and ghosts and what it means to exist when you shouldn’t anymore. Atti is excellent at writing fics with a melancholy and lost sort of air, and this one is no exception.
“growing pains” by waveridden is a personal favorite of mine. it’s a little longer than a lot of the options on this list, but it’s worth the time and the effort. The fic as a whole is about a lot of things, mainly Gloria Bugsnax and xyr attempt to learn both humanity and family, and it makes me cry every time. There’s some game mechanics, because Hayden always includes those, but mostly it’s a look at Gloria and all the people xe loves.
“I thought i heard your laughter” by cedardivine is a fun one, honestly. Megan Ito exists in a lot of variations and I think everyone has a different take on them and who and how they are, but I like the idea that New Megan is just lurking around behind them. A character study with tragedy and game mechanics just off to the side, and a quick read besides.
“A Quick Guide to Unscattering in 8 Easy Steps” by Moondragon8 hits, I think, just about every note you’ve asked for. An interesting take on scattered players and their recovery, a look at Schneider Bendie as a character and what happens when you’re traded to a new team, and a creeping awareness that things aren’t as they should be. If you can’t tell, I love this one dearly.
“sequels” by waltztangocache similarly approaches a mechanic by way of an impacted player. I love the way Hen writes about the Ambush, and this look at Tom Kirby and what his life is like after revival. There’s a series of fics connected to this one, so if you like it, there’s more. I will admit I like Kirby best — but everything here is a great time.
“The Short (But Not Insignificant) ILB Career of Kiki Familia” by cyndakip is one that I think gets passed around a ton? But that’s because it’s good. Kiki wasn’t here for long at all, but you can tell from this that she was immediately loved by her team and the fans of said team, and her death is in fact a tragedy by its very nature. This is Discipline Era lore, so you know it hurts (positive).
“spend my days in gray” by birdlord5000 is like. THE Donia Bailey fic, to me? I didn’t know much about the player lore beforehand, but this fic cemented Donia as a deeply beloved of mine. It’s quiet, it’s a character study, it’s about what it’s like to be shadowed for years and years before being stolen by a Thieves Guild, and it’s honestly a lot of fun. Not a tragedy, but damn good.
“strange to be shaped by such strange men” by baliset is… agh. Remember when York Silk was incinerated, and the entire fandom ground to a halt as we tried to grapple with that? I do! It was a lot! And Marn captured the feelings of the moment to a T. It’s set in the Hall and features a lot of beloved dead guys, and I love how York is characterized here. Marn has tons of great fics worth reading; this is up there as one of my favorite ones, though.
“the sun selecting targets” by indigostohelit is the only Jaylen and Mike fic i am going to recommend to you. But. There are so many. It’s just that the narration in this one is incredible, and I think about it often. It’s got a lot about the original necromancy and the shadowing of Mike Townsend, which I know we’ve all heard about by now and et cetera, but. God it’s so good.
“there beneath” by haunthouse! Another Wyatt fic! This one is about Wyatt Mason VI, or Violet. I will admit to being biased toward this one because it includes the Boston Flowers, my team of choice for almost the entirety of Blaseball’s run. But like. If you want tragedy, and you want game mechanics, the Wyatts tend to be a good starting place. They often die at the end.
“there’s no weather at all” by mantisqueer is a sleeper fave that I was delighted to rediscover today. Nothing like a Neerie McCloud fic to make you sad about players doomed from the very start. Moth does a really good job here at characterizing being Elsewhere; it’s one of my favorite interps, although I would encourage you to mind the CWs.
and that’s what I have! there are plenty more I would direct you to, but most of them are by someone(s) already listed here. so if one of the ones i’ve listed stands out, i would encourage you to check the author’s page and see what else they have. have fun!!!

But he survived a next-spherical knockdown to get back into the struggle and received 114-113 throughout the board in a controversial end result. Up coming: TBA
3. Sergey Kovalev (30-2-1) Kovalev, a punching machine from Russia, put his three title belts on the line versus former super middleweight winner Andre Ward in a fantastic match in November and although Kovalev dropped him in the next spherical and dominated the to start with 50 percent of the struggle, the judges awarded Ward a controversial selection with all three scoring the struggle 114-113. The rematch on June 17 was a different fantastic, shut struggle right up until the eighth spherical, when Ward approximately dropped Kovalev with a right hand and then punished him to the body for a knockout victory. Up coming: TBA
4. Nathan Cleverly (30-3) In October 2016, Wales’ Cleverly challenged Juergen Braehmer on his German turf for a secondary entire world title and, in a fantastic struggle, received by stoppage seconds into the seventh spherical because Braehmer give up on his stool with a right elbow injury. It is the next entire world title Cleverly has received. Braehmer had the right to a rematch but has passed. Cleverly owes interim titlist Dmitry Bivol (11-) a required struggle, but it is really not very likely to be upcoming. Up coming: TBA
5. Juergen Braehmer (forty eight-3) Germany’s Braehmer manufactured the seventh defense of his secondary title in October and it did not go as perfectly as Nathan Cleverly stopped him in the seventh-spherical when Braehmer retired thanks to a right elbow injury. Brahmer had the contractual right to a rematch, but he passed and as an alternative is shifting down to super middleweight to be portion of the 8-male Planet Boxing Tremendous Sequence event that starts in September. He will confront American Rob Brant (22-) in the quarterfinals. Up coming: TBA vs. Brant
6. Oleksandr Gvozdyk (thirteen-) Gvozdyk, a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist for Ukraine who had all over 250 amateur fights, has moved promptly since turning professional in 2014. In November, he manufactured longtime contender and former entire world title challenger Isaac Chilemba to give up on his stool soon after the eighth spherical of a a person-sided struggle and in April he destroyed rugged Cuban contender Yunieski Gonzalez in the 3rd spherical. He’ll be back to struggle on ESPN versus Craig Baker (17-1) in the co-attribute of the Terence Crawford-Julius Indongo junior welterweight unification struggle. Up coming: Aug. 19 vs. Baker
7. Sullivan Barrera (twenty-1) Immediately after getting rid of a lopsided selection decline to Andre Ward in March 2016, Cuban defector Barrera bounced back to gain three fights in a row, together with on July fifteen when he confronted Joe Smith Jr. on HBO. Immediately after obtaining off the mat from a to start with-spherical knockdown, Barrera went on to dominate the relaxation of the struggle in a unanimous ten-spherical selection victory. Up coming: TBA
8. Artur Beterbiev (11-) Two-time Russian Olympian Beterbiev was thanks to meet Sullivan Barrera in a entire world title eliminator on April 21 in Barrera’s adopted hometown of Miami, in a struggle that would have created a person of Andre Ward’s required challengers. But Barrera, not happy with the conditions, withdrew. Beterbiev promoter Yvon Michel manufactured a offer for the eliminator with Germany’s Enrico Koelling (23-1) and even however Beterbiev is in litigation making an attempt to conclusion his contract with Michel he ideas to go by with the bout, even however the first day of July 29 is off and the bout is headed to a purse bid.. Up coming: TBA vs. Koelling
9. Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (23-) Alvarez, a 2008 Olympian from Colombia combating out of Montreal, attained a required shot versus entire world winner (and fellow Montreal fighter) Adonis Stevenson by advantage of his shut selection gain versus Isaac Chilemba in a November 2015 title eliminator, but the title struggle has been repeatedly delayed, however Alvarez has stayed active with four a lot more wins, together with versus Montreal’s two greatest — but light — boxing stars, a fifth-spherical knockout of former super middleweight titlist Lucian Bute in February and a selection versus former winner Jean Pascal on June 3 on Stevenson’s undercard. The title struggle is supposed to be upcoming. Up coming: TBA
ten. Joe Smith Jr. (23-2) In 2016, Smith, a building worker by trade, scored two main upsets. 1st he drilled Andrzej Fonfara in the to start with spherical on his turf in Chicago, a victory that propelled him into a a great deal larger struggle in December, when he was hand-picked as the opponent for the good Bernard Hopkins’ retirement struggle. Smith struck all over again with an upset as he viciously knocked Hopkins out of the ring in an eighth-spherical knockout victory to ship B-Hop into retirement with the to start with stoppage decline of his 28-year vocation. In his July fifteen return, Smith scored a to start with-spherical knockdown versus Sullivan Barrera but dropped the relaxation of the struggle in a obvious selection, however he confirmed heart to fight by a broken jaw for most of the bout. Up coming: TBA

Hi! For the ask game, 👁️ and 🌌 with anyone of your choosing!
i'll answer these with blaseball characters, since i've already answered the second question for my OCs.
the blb characters i picked are just my blorbos. they aren't connected in any way except I Like Them.
👁️ EYE - what colour are their eyes? do people notice their eyes? is there anything special about them (shows emotion easily, literally magical…)?
Parker MacMillan: I've been going back and forth between green eyes and red eyes. because red would be cool, but idk he strikes me as a person with green eyes. nothing special about his eyes. unless i decide on them being red. eyes are typically not red.
Conditional Yuniesky (aka Yuniesky Torres): dark brown, nothing special about them.
Declan Suzanne: same as above :3
🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?
I am repurposing thing to mean "first headcanon you decided on, and why you did."
Parker MacMillan: sighs dreamily. there's something wrong with him. his cringefail behavior and killstreak enamored me. so, of course, my first headcanon (i think) was that animals love him for his unnaturally warm swag. actually wait. i guess the first headcanon would have been "firewalker basically makes him a space heater." but i think that's a pretty common headcanon? idk actually
Conditional Yuniesky: idk how to separate "headcanon" from "genuine irm," because i did sort of help create yuniesky?? like i was there for his initial lore jam & shared stuff afterwards and people said "wow those are good ideas wyatt" and i've been living on that high ever since. i guess the first "headcanon" would be that he lives with his grandmother in houston, and that his grandmother was the one that created conditional (yunie's supercomputer bestie).
Declan Suzanne: used to be in the circus. i actually have no reasoning for this & i have no idea where it came from.

Happy WIP Wednesday! yunie and reese?
hello!
link to the wip wednesday post
this one is finally started to be more than a series of ideas i write down sporadically! also there's a little gay thing going on with margo and reese because i saw a fic on ao3 and it haunts me (in a good way)
"Who's that?" Reese asked Howell. "Yuniesky. He's–" "Conditional Yuniesky, the Shoe Thieves' Season 9 post-season birth! Gosh, he looks older now. So he's y'all's former teammate?" Reese said. Esme raised an eyebrow. "You just know that off the top of your head?" Howell waved as if to tell her "don't bother," then turned back to Reese. "Yeah. Well, we didn't play with him." "Shadowed," Reese nodded. "Right," Howell nodded back. "But we saw him around. Maybe a bit more than the other shadows." "Definitely more than the other shadows," Esme said, taking a sip of her drink. "Yuniesky was our go-to tech guy. I swear, he never left Choux." "He's a natural spy, though," Howell said. "Oh, absolutely," Esme cut in. "If I didn't know him from the Shoe Thieves, I'd assume he was one of the few that signed up right before games started. Although, none of them are really spy-like, I guess." "I think Sevgi has it in xem," Howell commented. "But, really, sometimes Yuniesky will do things that remind me of you and the other original Spies. "Like what?" Reese asked, a little scared of the answer. "Just watch him, when you get the chance," Howell said. The conversation changed course and carried on, but Reese stopped to keep an eye on Yuniesky. They had a clear view of his face from where he sat beside Ivy. "Okay, I'm not really the best person for geometry," He said. "I thought math was your strong suit," Ivy said. "Didn't you major in math in college?" For a very, very short second, an expression crossed Yuniesky's face. For that split second, the mask dropped. Reese could see his eyebrow twitch like he was thinking. And then he continued on like normal. "I didn't graduate," he said. Reese turned back to Howell. "I think I see what you're getting at."

your Rivers R & Yunie hcs i would like to see them,,,
so. rosa, in general, is a pretty blunt person. yuniesky cannot understand anything but bluntness. so whenever he has that falling out with the spies (or whatever you want to call it), she's the first to tell him without flowery language why that was fucked up and why she's mad. and like, yeah, it hurt, but yuniesky is glad that she's honest, at least. they have a somewhat antagonistic platonic relationship. where they just make fun of each other. and every time yuniesky expresses some sort of insecurity or something she's like "that's the stupidest thing i have ever fucking heard" and yuniesky does the exact same thing for her. in general, they both appreciate that there's not really an expectation from the other? like most of the other spies expect yunie to like, come out of his shell, and rosa doesn't. and rosa feels that everyone sort of expects her to be the team's rock? so it's nice to have someone who literally couldn't give less of a fuck sometimes.

For the ask game: 10. What gets them out of bed every morning?
16. What would they say to their past self? When would they go to? Why?
link to the ask game
HI. SORRY. WAS AT THE VET FOR A LONG TIME AND THEN MY PHONE WAS ALMOST DEAD SO I HAD TO GET OFF MY PHONE. AND THEN I FORGOT
ummm im going to do this with yuniesky torres (aka conditional yuniesky) (im slowly oc-ifying him)
10: what gets them out of bed in the morning?
usually the knowledge that they have to get up or else things will completely fall apart (in his eyes, anyway). he's used to being the only tech guy. he also has the full-time job of being conditional's (sentient computer) best friend and condi makes sure he gets places on time.
16. what would they say to their past self? when would they go to? why?
yuniesky would go to his teenage self and just shout "SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!" and leave. (if you want a more satisfying answer: he would either go to 14 y/o him and tell him to get his shit together, or go to his 18 y/o self and... also say "get your shit together" but in a different way. more like "stop compulsively lying it's gonna bite you in the ass later." but the thing is, yunie knows himself, and he knows that any version of his past self is going to flip him off and ignore him. so like. he's just gonna shout "SHUT THE FUCK UP" and call it a day)

wip wednesday !!! dont know if i can ask abt this but i am SO intrigued by a beginenrs guide to being normal ...
you can ask about it!
so, truth be told, i have technically started on beginner's guide. it's going to be a long fic. lmfao. the start, i guess, is a scene where yuniesky picks ivy up in a flash flood (and that file is just called Ivy & Yunie). but there's still a lot of other parts that will probably just be frankensteined together
a beginner's guide to being normal is about yuniesky torres (in the sim his name is conditional yuniesky) and his journey to be a normal person, and how he fails spectacularly.
most of the stuff i have are just unpolished rambles. also i have projected my issues on him so hard. sorry.
From his point of view, Yuniesky has been watching life through a window for as long as he lived. There was a stint in his teens where he desperately tried to break the glass. He did a lot of things he wasn't proud of, and even more things he was proud of, but would still take to his grave. All of those things landed him in the Utah desert, and then a stuffy treatment center in Salt Lake City. And it was then he decided his spot behind the window was safe. If you ask Yuniesky why he joined Blaseball, he'd give you a different answer than he gives anyone else. He does that with every question. But the real reason is, being reborn into a shoe thievery ring sounded better than living with his parents. And it was better.

you didn't specify a ship for them, so i'm just gonna do yuniesky/a-z
NOTE: the character names, in canon, are conditional yuniesky and chester abu-zaid. in my lore, conditional yuniesky is comprised of a supercomputer monolith (named conditional) and its caretaker/friend (yuniesky). chester abu-zaid is comprised of a guy who got isekaied from a children's anime to blaseball land (nadeem abu-zaid) and his cyborg service dog, chester. so although the name is technically chester abu-zaid, im referring to the human as nadeem.
this kinda got long so it's under a read more now
1. Describe their first date.
their first official date, they just make dinner and watch a movie at nadeem's apartment. but there were a couple of non-official dates where they were like "is this a date??? are we dating???"
17. How well do they communicate? Are they open with their feelings/thoughts or more reserved? Why?
ok. so. this one requires backstory.
yunie's whole thing is that he is trying so hard to never feel emotions. they're literally that post that's like "the best ship is goofy guy x guy with catholic guilt." also sorry for introducing catholicism to the blaseball universe. anyway, he had a sort of front he put up for different social circles. although, the spies are kind of his only social circle. yuniesky put a concerning amount of effort into his act. like the same type of inner dialogue Light has with himself in death note. except instead of "would kira do this?" it was "would the specific version of myself that i have crafted in order to keep my coworkers friendly but at arms-length do this?" and then, inevitably, everyone Found Out and they were fucking pissed at him for lying to them (except for nanci, who was just impressed and intrigued). everyone was like "what did we do to be so untrustworthy?" and yunie's like "im going to get such a good grade in being a spy." it wasn't until rosa died that he was like "oh! i might be with these people when i die. these might be the last people i ever see." and slowly, he started letting down his walls. it was the first time that it occurred to him that he was doomed and, yet, not alone. and at some point, he gets closer to a-z specifically, and tbh i forgot the question. um. communication. yuniesky TRIES to communicate now. he's still not very good at it, but there's much more of an attempt now. nadeem, on the other hand, is a good communicator. so them and yunie have come up with non-verbal ways to communicate what's going on (and ways that don't involve words at all). nadeem sort of wears their heart on their sleeve, and they're generally really good at just taking whatever's thrown at them with some amount of grace. yuniesky has never had an emotion he didn't overanalyze to hell and back and then suppressed. he's much more reserved about everything in his life, but at some point becomes open enough to at least keep people updated.
18. How do they care for each other when one of them is wounded/sick?
for sickness: yunie makes food and brings it to them, does chores for them, makes sure they're comfortable, etc., but stays a healthy distance away. nadeem, however, is not as careful, and will 100% just give him a kiss and then get sick the next day.
for injuries: they both scold each other for being an idiot whilst patching the other up. yunie has a lot more knowledge about how to deal with wounds (mostly hiding them) but nadeem is better at actually being careful when dealing wounds and not just, like, poking it to see if it hurts like yunie does.

🌀🫂🎵write some stuff!!!!! (just random emojis in my recently used it doesn’t have to be related to em sjsjd)
from a spies fic i'm working on:
(yuniesky uses he/she, ivy uses they/she)
Yuniesky didn't normally get messages this late-- well, he typically didn't get messages at all. Why would anyone pick three in the morning to message him? Ivy: are you still at HQ? Yuniesky chewed on her lip. Whatever Ivy wanted, she didn't want to do it. He could lie, and say no. But, again, people typically only texted him when they need something. And someone needing something in the middle of the night is usually not a great sign.
Me: Yeah. Ivy: can you coem to my room Ivy: i had a really bad nightmare Ivy: ik it's dumb im just scared lol Me: I'll be right there.
this is formatted much better in the doc lol

👀👀👀 may I request elaboration on the secret rivers Rosa lore 👀👀👀
(notes: 1. word bad brain sleepy. these sentences might not be complete. 2. took me 4ever because i accidentally closed out while typing and it frustrated me & i didn't get back to it. 3. this version of rivers rosa is different than widely know fanon 4. i only have basic knowledge of spanish and might get some things wrong).
rosa rivera is scared of fire.
she gets the nickname "rosa del río" from friends in panama. rosa of the river. she's an excellent swimmer and is passionate about water access and marine life. in her late twenties, she feels the call of mx. chicago and attends college there to get a marine biology degree. her classmates call her rivers rosa. the nickname sticks, even after she graduates and ages. when mx. chicago calls rosa to participate in blaseball, she is 46. she doesn't hesitate to follow. she signs up as rivers rosa.
she doesn't like fire, but she trusts water. staying a safe distance and spraying the water is an easy job for her. as easy as it gets, anyway. the worst part of fighting fires is going in there. finding people. rosa can't. she can't get herself to move. someone else always can. but she's afraid that one of these days there won't be.
rosa falls to houston. no fires to fight. she gets along with her teammates well. most of them are younger than her. a lot of them have more hope than her. especially the ones that just joined the sport. surprisingly, even some of the ones who live in the shadows are optimistic. "they won't open the book again," they say. she doesn't have it in her to even look at them sometimes. they'll be broken when someone dies. even more disturbing, though, is a player that's always been in the shadows. yuniesky. he has a pet computer or something, and it's named conditional. they slapped their names together on the roster and they play as conditional yuniesky. yuniesky is more of a doomist than rosa. convinced that not only will The Fans open the book, they're out to get the players. all they want is chaos and destruction. they'll cook up new ways to hurt the players, give power to strange new gods no one's seen before. "there's no point," he says when asked why he doesn't bother attending any meetings or going out to dinner. he doesn't elaborate, but everyone knows what he's talking about.
rosa won't let it slide. to be honest, it pisses her off for the same reason the optimistic ones piss her off. they don't have any real experience with this game. what makes them think they know what's gonna happen? she stops phrasing invitations as questions. he only gets more combative. someone-- a kid named sevgi-- suggests that he needs more warning.
"we're getting dinner on friday," rosa would say. "come with us."
yuniesky wouldn't even look up at her to respond, instead focusing on whatever he was doing on his computer. "fine."
rosa started to realize he barely ate. he'd just pick at whatever he ordered with his fork, or just order a drink and swirl the straw around while listening to the conversation. he'd smile occasionally, or make a face, but rarely commented. sometimes he would say something snarky in spanish, low enough so that only rosa could hear. he was hilarious. rude as hell, but hilarious. she liked that he was blunt. sure, it wouldn't hurt for him to develop some tact, but she could tell he didn't really want to be mean. he just sounded like that. he seemed to appreciate rosa's bluntness as well, but he wasn't easy to read.
surprising barely anyone, the book gets opened. rosa is still scared of fire. anastasia isarobot (who used to be in the firefighters shadows) got incinerated, and for some reason, it felt like an omen.
rosa is still scared of fire when the umpire aims for her and raises its hand. she's still scared of fire and trying to run, even though she knows it's useless. she reaches out to the nearest person as she feels her heel catch on fire. it burns worse than she could ever imagine. someone takes her hand.
yuniesky. he's already crying.
rosa realizes she's never seen him show a raw emotion before. and she realizes she'll never say goodbye to lou, or declan, and she'll never go back to chicago or panama, and she's going to die, and there will be no hall waiting for her. she watches the flame spread up her arm and towards yuniesky's hand, and so does he, but he doesn't let go. he's an idiot for it, but rosa couldn't be more thankful. it's a selfish sort of thankfulness, she thinks as the flame spreads across his hand, but she deserves to be selfish. she deserves to die comforted.
yuniesky knows her last words were "thank you," but nobody else heard. nobody even asked. they ask plenty of other questions: "what's wrong with you?" "the hell were you thinking?" "are there any medics here? do we usually keep those on staff?" but not a single question about her. and for some reason, that pisses him off.
after the game, he goes to the hospital (of his own free will, for once). the only thing blaseball players aren't immune to is umpire flames, but people don't typically get away with a small injury. you either die or you're a fire eater.
terrell was the one who took him, since it's hard to drive with only one hand and while in unspeakable amounts of pain. he turns to yuniesky while they're in the waiting room.
"why'd you do it?" he asks in a low voice. not judgementally. just confused. in shock, perhaps.
yuniesky looked at the shoddily bandaged hand in his lap. "no one else would."

whenever i post like, relationship prompts and stuff, i typically don't get any asks. which is fine, i usually save them for character building and prompts anyway. but it's occurred to me that i don't actually talk about ships that much? other than like, tagging random posts as megparker. and the early stages of The Ship Bracket. so you guys just may not know?? lmao??? so here's a collection of blb ships i like ig
