Alexander Hall under construction, ca. 1890s. On April 13, 1894, the Daily Princetonian estimated the total cost of construction for the building would run to $250,000. In 2024, that would be about $9 million.

Forever fucked up over the fact that sometimes you have to write the thing you desperately want to read/watch because it doesn't exist yet

i was going to make a poll/tournament style bracket "which monster from my monster mash do you think you could beat in a fight" tournament. but i stopped almost instantly bc the thought of "living doll/cursed toy red pyro" coming in dead last, and the mental image of hoards of people ganging up and beating the snot out of poor little baby-ghosty pyro made me cry.
but also the real last place "easiest to be in a fight" contender is phantom of the opera spy. that's literally just some incel who lives in the walls. like tell me you don't already want to EXTERMINATE that fuckingg guy.

They won't stop fucking developing around my house. They're constantly blasting, constantly destroying the fucking woods where all the deer and little foxes used to live and play. All to put in shitty overpriced condos and apartments.
But are they gonna do anything to improve the road structures? Are they gonna provide even basic public transit? Sidewalks?
Nope. They're just gonna cram hundreds of families in one tiny area that is one road removed from one of two major through roads in this town.

I’m so fucking sick of this bullshit system temu and shein have built themselves on of fucking, palatable exploitation where westerns are fine with it because “but it’s so cheap and it gets here so fast” at the fucking cost of people working for the equivalent of pennies an hour

this boot company feels sketchy as hell and I would not send them my money and like these are also actually quite ugly BUT the thing about me is when i see a boot with straps i am like... tempted. Every time. Like. This is a lace up boot! There is no need for a harness strap! And yet!

Cost estimation
Cost estimation plays a crucial role in various aspects of business and project management. Some of the key benefits of cost estimation include:
Budget Planning: Cost estimation helps in planning and allocating budgets for projects or business operations. By accurately estimating costs, organizations can ensure that they have sufficient funds to complete the project without exceeding the budget.
Resource Allocation: It enables effective allocation of resources such as manpower, materials, equipment, and time. With a clear understanding of the costs involved, organizations can allocate resources efficiently to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
Risk Management: Cost estimation allows for better identification and mitigation of risks associated with a project. By anticipating potential cost overruns or budget constraints, organizations can implement risk management strategies to address these issues proactively.
Decision Making: Accurate cost estimation provides decision-makers with valuable insights for making informed decisions. It helps in evaluating the feasibility of projects, comparing alternative options, and selecting the most cost-effective solutions.
Contract Negotiation: In business transactions, cost estimation serves as a basis for negotiating contracts with suppliers, vendors, and clients. It helps in setting fair prices, establishing payment terms, and ensuring that both parties agree on the financial aspects of the agreement.
Performance Measurement: Cost estimation provides a benchmark for evaluating the performance of projects or business activities. By comparing estimated costs with actual costs, organizations can assess their financial performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions if necessary.
Customer Satisfaction: Accurate cost estimation contributes to customer satisfaction by ensuring that projects are completed within budget and delivered on time. It helps in building trust and credibility with clients, which can lead to repeat business and positive referrals.
Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Cost estimation is often required for regulatory compliance and legal purposes. It helps organizations ensure that they meet financial reporting requirements, adhere to industry standards, and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
Overall, cost estimation is essential for effective financial management, project planning, and decision-making in both business and project management contexts. It helps organizations optimize resources, minimize risks, and achieve their objectives in a cost-efficient manner.

Early Bird vs. The Worm
I got up early this morning and started to check shit off my list. That felt pretty good.
The sad part is the newly revised proposal for a completely new HVAC system for that race track outside San Antonio has gone up another $120K inside of two weeks.
So yeah, the original ‘verbal’ guesstimate of the costs at $750K was wrong. It’s now $1.965M. The best part is we haven’t even gotten to electrical track lighting problems yet. I bet the roof is going over $1M come next week.
So hurry up and don’t act or make any decisions…it will only cost more the longer you wait.
I suppose they could just close down the facility, as I’m certain the ROI would take 10-15 years.
Let’s all hope if they do shut it down, that I get involved in the new construction. Sigh. I’ve spent 3 years as a Construction Manager, and 23 years in a few Architectural offices; and I’ve only been involved with about 3 new buildings.
I’m the King Of Renovation projects.
