NANCY DREW | ace's 'i'm confused by you right now' hand thing
listen..... LISTEN this shit is everything ya hear me.... this shit is peak nace angst and IM HERE FOR IT, let's discuss:
1. the only other time we see ace physically push nancy away is the lust dress episode where he quickly figures out that she's not in her right mind and because her actions are definitely surprising (though not un-welcome as can be seen by just how flustered he is in the entire scene and every nace scene/touch/not touch since, after and before then), he pushes her from him because he needs to re-orient himself and his thoughts and figure out everything in objectivity.... sans nancy.... re: he can't think straight when she's making contact with him like that and now there's proof because of the second scene we got last episode and do you hear me fucking SCREAMING.... okay okay i'm not gonna get ahead of myself let's just think about that 310 scene, stay w me-
2. when ace sees nancy give in to her feelings to park and not wait for him, his mind JUMPS to her inherently rejecting him.... and it confuses him because it goes against everything he's known to be true for the evolution of their friendship. you can see that as the ep progresses, he becomes more and more desperate to reach out to nancy, never giving up despite everything happening with nancy x park; in his most desperate state, he relies on his instincts and reaches out for her and trusts that the intrinsic connection they have in order to be his (and hannah's) saving grace..... AND HE DOES THIS BY PHYSICALLY REACHING OUT TO HER (AND THAT'S WHAT WORKS FOLKS.... THATS WHAT WORKS). but when it works, and he's literally back on earth, he lets all the confusion, rejection and heart-ache slide in.... because nancy didn't choose him, nancy didn't wait for him, and you can see that nancy's same-old sam-old physical attachment SURPRISES him, just like last time, and he immediately tries to remove her from the equation because of it, because he finds the absolute comfort in nancy (and that comes sans clarity, especially in this case), but for him right then, everything has changed, he wasn't chosen, indicating a DIRECT PARALLEL BETWEEN HIS INSTINCTS TO REACH OUT FOR HER AND HIS TAUGHT REPRESSION OF HIS EMOTIONS TO GIVE HER HER HAPPINESS.... and as the end of the episode unfolds you see that set in stone completely and ace's heart-break and grief becomes more and more apparent..... AND BOY THE ANGST IS SO GOOD (and so painful.... god, so painful)
am i reading too much into this? yes. do i care? no, absolutely not.

I'll send an SOS to the world,
I hope that someone gets my, I hope that someone gets my,

And if there’s one thing to know about Ace, it’s that he’s gonna be there for Nancy ! even at the expense of his own feelings

Figured if I was gonna get obliterated from existence, it might as well happen while I was looking at a friend.
