#SharkSunday to bring more understanding to humans about sharks! Blacktip Reef Shark remaining within the same local area for up to several years at a time. It is an active predator of small bony fishes, cephalopods, and crustaceans, and has also been known to feed on sea snakes and seabirds. It typically attains a length of 1.6 m The International Union for Conservation of Nature has assessed the C. melanopterus as Near Threatened. When receptive to mating, a female blacktip reef shark swims slowly in a sinusoidal pattern near the bottom with her head pointed down; observations in the wild suggest female sharks release chemical signals that allow males to track them. Once the male finds her, he closes to around 15 cm and follows her with his snout oriented towards her vent. A courting male may also bite the female behind her gills or on her pectoral fins; these mating wounds heal completely after 4–6 weeks. After a period of synchronous swimming, the male pushes the female on her side and positions her so her head is against the bottom and her tail is raised. Once the female is in position, the male inserts one of his claspers into her cloaca. Copulation lasts for several minutes, after which the sharks separate and resume their regular behavior. Off Moorea, individual older females mate and give birth at a consistent time every year, often to within a week’s precision, whereas younger females exhibit more variability in their timing. Younger females are also more likely to fail to become pregnant after mating. The gestation period has been reported as 7–11 months long. Blacktip reef sharks are viviparous, which means they give live birth after the embryos develop in the mother’s uterus. At this stage we have no idea what the 'purpose' is, if any, for this type of behavior.

Nudibranchs are hermaphroditic, thus having a set of reproductive organs for both sexes, but they cannot fertilize themselves.

Goniobranchus geminus, also known as the gem sea slug, is a species of very colourful sea slug, a dorid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusc. It can reach a maximum size of 5cm.

G. geminus has large purple or purple-brown spots or marks, usually ringed with white, and often reticulate yellow background, and a purple border. Chromodoris geminus having four colour bands around the mantle edge, an outermost white, then translucent greyish purple, then white, then yellow.

To give you a brief idea of the diversity of our work, I would like to introduce you to a few of our environmental protection projects we have implemented,

We conduct Fish and invertebrate count and surveys, identifying and documentation of fish diversity, monitoring water quality changes, dissection of deceased fish for plastic detection in tissues and digestive organs.

I was able to achieve great success with our project of coral propagation (restoration and reconstruction of coral reefs). I have been an instructor for CP since 2014 and so over time 2000 new corals have been planted. For this I received an award from the organization “Ocean Quest” and “Sea Shepherd Dive”. Newly planted corals the size of a pinhead are monitored with underwater photography. Success rate of 93%.

Numerous implementations of underwater clean-up dives and their organization. Every month we collect over 500 kg of garbage from the sea floor. The future vision is to specifically recycle the plastic waste and use it to produce anchor buoys. To document this, both photos and videos are used.

Construction and setting of permanent anchor buoys so that boats no longer throw their own anchors into the reef and thereby destroy corals.

We train our volunteers to become scientific scuba divers, I teach marine biology, shark protection, coral propagation and underwater clean-up courses.

Our latest Project is our shark protection project. Due to habitat loss and bad media, we systematically educate the population, counting as well as taking pictures and videos are needed for the identification and to create Databases, to protect biodiversity.

Another beach cleanup on Ao Nang beach Krabi. We collected a lot of plastic bottles, facemask, oil canister full with old oil fortunately it wasn't leaking, lots of styrofoam food trays, single use plastic forks spoons, and diapers also a sleeping 2x1m mattress which was soaked full of water to heavy for one person to lift and its inside was already all over the beach in small pieces. That was an estimated 50kg by itself. Rubbish gets on to the beach from both sides from land by wind and rain and by the ocean washed on to shore and non responsible human nature polluters who are so lazy to carry it to the next rubbish bin or take back home instead they leave their rubbish on the beach and kill marine life! Unfortunately all sea and land animals suffer from our rubbish and not only animals but we do in the end as well because it's a circle if you didn't get it yet! In total it was 72kg rubbish removed. A few Facts about Yellow Boxfish

Did you know? In the 1990's Mercedes Benz modeled a concept car after this fish. The Bionic has 80% lower nitrogen oxide emissions with its selective catalytic reduction technology.

Yellow boxfish also often called yellow trunk fish, are solitary animals. Breeding occurs during the spring, in small groups that consist of 1 male and 2–4 females.

As the name suggests, it is square-shaped. Boxfish are also known for their armored and rigid body, which in most cases would inhibit movement. Due to its adapted swimming style, known as ostraciform locomotion, this disadvantage is compensated for by the shell shape of the boxfish and is even more advantageous.

Bryaninops yongei, the wire-coral goby or whip coral goby, grows to a max of 3cm in length.

Whip coral gobies reproduce through benthic spawning, meaning they release eggs and sperm to be fertilized externally. They also have the ability to change their sex when there is a gender imbalance.
