There is SO MUCH to talk about with Az that I SO BADLY want to talk about but can't because there are heavy spoilers involved 😭 But let me see...

Az keeps pet fish. Their main office is lined with fish tanks.

They dress well, though somewhat conservatively. Very expensive but in an understated way.

They don't necessarily use 'they' pronouns btw, I'm just using 'they' for convenience

They started getting involved with DIABLO by helping launder money. They have worked their way up to where they are now. They became "Azazel" a few years ago.

100 says he hasn't heard much about them - that's partly because Az has been making great effort to keep their moves on the DL, partly because a lot of those moves have been directed towards other criminals, and, of course, partly because Az has connections within the Agency!

Az has an 'inner circle' of people directly working for them (personal security, etc), most of whom absolutely adore Az. This includes Ewa (who Az took in when she was a homeless teenager) and Mateusz (who was a young ex-con who couldn't get any other work)

Did you notice a pattern there? They probably aren't the only ones who feel that Az 'saved' them. Lev, who is older, a lot newer to the group, and was recruited by Angel instead of Az, has a more cynical take: Treating them good got good results. But if stripping them down for spare organs would get better results, Lev was sure that Azazel would do it without blinking an eye. But then again Lev is cynical (because he has tragic backstory!)

If/when the MC meets them, Az may seem like a very nice person! And it's not an act, as such. But remember, they are a top-tier, underground-lair-having 'no-Mr-Bond-I-expect-you-to-die' VILLAIN. They might be the closest thing to a big overarching bad guy the story has, depending on branching. They may be nice, but they're not good.

In fact, Az is complicated. There's a lot that I want to keep vague because I'm hoping readers will make their own conclusions about why they have done or are doing things. Az has a Big Plan, which they will tell the MC is a good thing, or at least done with good intentions? They might be straight up lying. They might believe it themselves but be such a messed up person that their version of good is skewed. They might be telling the truth. I'm not sure I'll ever tell you what the right answer is.

Az and Angel? Very complicated. But right now, Az is the only person Angel would die for.
