Seward: Hey Dr. VH, I'm finally starting to feel not-so-depressed for the first time in this whole novel, what's up?
Van Helsing: Let's talk about the death of poor miss lucy again - how do you think she died?
Seward: I have no idea and I'd really rather not--
Van Helsing: Corporeal Transference! Astral Bodies! Hypnotism! Fine ladies at the opera! Wizards! Methuselah! Old Spiders! Giant Bats! Old Tortoises! THE CORN! *grabbing Seward by the shoulders and shaking him* Do you understand now?!
Seward, near tears: I have no idea what's happening right now.

“They were made by Miss Lucy!”
The buildup! The tension! What a beautiful delivery! If I was a Victorian reader reading this I would be falling clean out of my chair right now.

Proposal for a character swap on the Sept 26th entry:
Van Helsing: Do you mean to tell me, friend Bella, that you have no suspicion as to what poor Lucy died of; not after all the hints given, not only by events, but by me?
Bella, trembling: Vampire.
Van Helsing: Mein Gott! Yes! 😀
Bella, biting her lip: Hot.
Van Helsing: Oh no. 😬
~Meanwhile, across the sea~
Edward Cullen: Say it. Out loud. Say it.
Jack Seward, trembling: I can hazard no opinion. I do not know what to think, and I have no data on which to found a conjecture. (Also, can you please point me in the direction of Texas? I ask for completely respectable and not horny bisexual reasons.)

September 26
It's so good to hear directly from Jonathan himself again! Oh how I've missed him. It nearly brought a tear to my eye when Jonathan realized that the ordeal he went through was real and not a figment of his fevered imagination like so many people tried to make him believe. Bless Dr. Van Helsing for putting his doubts to rest, and bless the man for rescuing that child.
I do wish he and Seward would stop calling all the children "it" though. At the hospital, there was a little boy as the patient. The doctor their referred to the child as "he," but Seward and Dr. Van Helsing just kept saying "it" even after that. It's quite amusing in a way, how they insist on calling children "it" like they're little gremlins or goblins instead of human beings.

I do like that Van Helsing double-checks the latch on the mausoleum door when he and Seward go in to make sure it doesn't lock them in. He knows exactly what kind of story he's in.

"Can you tell me why the tortoise lives more long than generations of men”
Here’s a tortoise that was like, 60 years old when this book was written and his name is Jonathan. And he is still alive.

In Van Helsings bizarre speech to Seward he basically said, “bro, I bet you don’t even believe in Santa Claus. Next thing I know you’re gonna tell me the tooth fairy is fake” as if this was a convincing argument for vampires

Lucy's tomb
Just to be clear, this is an above ground mausoleum; they're not digging her coffin up.
