He picks a fight with her because he’s mad jealous and the delicious thing is they are both so in their own heads, they don’t get it. Like - his fit is you said you left but you stayed with Pierre I saw the way he looked at you the whole party do you want to marry Pierre do you want to be Pierre’s servant aaaaaaa gggrrrrr aaaa rrrrrrrrr

And I laugh so hard because smart, smart Aziz has left any rationality 100mi behind, losing his mind over:

(a) Efnan staying with someone because she was literally unconscious and was brought into the house so not like she had a choice

(b) possibility of Pierre drooling over Efnan as a proper rival tho Pierre is a senior citizen who is old enough to be Aziz’s father, let alone Efnan’s (this is an age gap romance but there are limits, peeps!)

(c ) viewing Pierre marrying Efnan as a total possibility if Efnan wanted it despite the age difference that makes Aziz x Efnan seem like classmates hooking up, the fact that Pierre is even more upper class than “I cannot marry a peasant” Aziz, not to mention he is socially the top - running the city AND from a different culture and religion. Aziz couldn’t envision himself marrying a peasant girl, how could ever Pierre? And yet, Efnan is so desirable in Aziz’s eyes that he went from “of course I won’t marry her, who is she and who am I, how could I introduce her to anyone” to “the French ruler of our town who is old enough to be Efnan’s grandfather would marry her of course if only Efnan wants it, I mean who wouldn’t?” AHAHAHAHHAHA

(d) possibility of Efnan being Pierre’s servant because she is only myyyyy servant mine mine miiiiiiiine (by now I am beginning to think servant = MINE in Aziz’s addled brain, especially since he seems to view marriage and employment as both equally likely and equally worthy of jealously.)
